Amazing food (best fried chicken I've ever had) , great service. Super friendly staff. It was an open mic night, and we were treated to extremely cool live music - an awesome bonus! Highly recommended if you're in the area.

We stopped in from out of town and had a great time. The food was A++, far better than typcial pub fare. Home made breads, deserts, and great meals with many local ingredients. The outdoor dining was awesome, we had a table in their garden with a live band playing nearby. 10/10! the picture is of the "desert menu"

I love Skunk Hollow Tavern and have been there many times over the past ten years. I'm surprised by the most of the reviews here: the food is ok, but nothing special. There are lovely touches like the basket of homemade breads that serve as an appetizer. But the cuisine is modest. What is delightful and special is the setting. It's a delightful old inn with a great deal of charm; the downstairs tavern is particularly charming, but the upstairs is as well. Worth a visit but be realistic regarding the cuisine, which is a mixed bag: good but not excellent.

Delicious dinners! Maple soda was a lovely treat and very refreshing. Dining was al fresco and flies are always a bit of a challenge, but this did not diminish our beautuful July evening. We took our desserts to go to make the evening fireworks and the were scrumptious! This was a recommendation from our dear friend James, and it did not disappoint!

As a local, it was hard to believe this place could be so good since we had never heard about it and it is in the middle of nowhere! Went for a friend's birthday dinner and, wow, what a treat! It is in several small rooms of a very old house that used to be an inn. The eclectic atmosphere and historic ambiance made for a warm and homey vibe. You need to make reservations because seating and parking are limited. We sat at the bar, which seats 6, where Heidi took great care of us. What a sweetheart! The drinks were amazing, and the food was top-notch, local, fresh, everything made from scratch!! This means it takes a little longer to prepare, and it was pricey but well worth it for a special occasion. We will definitely be back! It is family-owned, and everyone, even the chef, interacted with the guests - you can feel the family ties here. These folks have a very special thing going on, and it is working, and apparently, has been for many years. It didn't appear that the building was wheelchair accessible and the bathrooms were up very narrow stairs on the 2nd and 3rd floors, so if you have mobility issues, this may not work for you.

We called ahead two hours in advance and got a reservation in the upstairs dining area. It was such a cute and cozy place. Everyone was very polite and friendly. The waitress was funny and very knowledgeable, we felt right at home. The cocktails were delicious and the food was excellent. We would definitely go again!

Food was excellent. I had the Carlos chicken which was great fried chicken. Quarters are a bit snug. We had a loud group sitting at the table behind us which was very annoying. Did I say the food was excellent, yes but I have to say it again and again. I was amazed at all the choices on the menu. And everyone at our table said the same thing, THE FOOD WAS GREAT

Fun atmosphere and great food and staff.

We felt fortunate to get a reservation on a Saturday night with short notice. We've been to Skunk Hollow Tavern for years, and it holds fond memories for us. While the food was ok, the menu has become very short and limited (Covid effect perhaps) and we each struggled to find something that we each wanted. Service was great, prompt and very attentive. However, I'd give the food a B/B+; not awful, not outstanding, somewhere in between.

Lovely people, and the hamburger, fish & chips, and chocolate mousse were all delicious. Cool open mic night downstairs on Wednesdays.

We have been regulars for 20 years. They make a drink specially for us. We walk in and whoever is behind the bar starts making it. Chicken Carlos is a favorite and Carlos also has a way with pork. We have several revolving favorite appetizers and entrees on the menu. Gretchen's desserts, especially the chocolate raspberry cake, are wonderful and her homemade ice cream rock. The wait staff make dining there a fun experience. Love the Skunk!!!

Rumors are true, this place is a gem!

Always a delight, never fails to have a superb meal. The fish and chips are superior to any. Gretchen's baking from the popovers to her desserts, unreal. Carlos can cook like nobody's business. I always feel comfort and happiness and well taken care of. A treat.

Met friends for dinner. Atmosphere, service, food, and cocktails. Great everything! Happy to add to the list of our “go to” places for a night out of good food and fun.

We came here at the suggestion of the front desk folks at the Shire in Woodstock, and it was outstanding. Incredible food, really friendly waitstaff and a quintessential Vermont charm that could not have been more authentic. The dining room is in an 18th century tavern and you feel transported. I had the chicken marsala and would highly recommend. If you come to VT, this is what you're here for!

Skunk hollow is an old building charming. I have eaten, in the upstairs dining room, the down stairs dining room, at the bar and in the back yard. The food surpasses my expectations. Get the filet that melts in your mouth, the chicken Carlo that wakes your taste buds, the ravioli with a delicious cream sauce, chicken pot pie with a flaky crust and rich gravy or what ever sounds good to you. Then any pie, cake or sweet treat they are all wonderful. It is the best food around! If you are truly looking for a good meal, This is the place. The food is 5 star.

We loved EVERYTHING at the Skunk. Food perfectly cooked and delicious. Waitstaff awesome, we even met the owner and she was so welcoming. Can’t wait to return!!

Exceptional food paired with a wonderful atmosphere, generated by a beautiful property and a warm, friendly wait staff. Happy to accommodate my gluten allergy. Any seat in the house would be great, but if you get a chance, try for some garden seating. Also, the open mic tunes on Wednesday were awesome.

The history of this entire town and area only makes this place even more of an experience to remember.

They keep the menu simple and change things up often. They will always feature dishes using locally sourced ingredients. They grow quite a few of their own herbs. Their signature burger is always a winner and so is Chicken Carlos. But make it a point to sample the specials of the day..... it’s what’s fresh today and the chefs always do a great job - in our experience the food has always been nicely prepared and presented as well as very tasty. The staff has always been friendly. When we come here we are always taken care of by familiar faces!

When you think of ski town taverns, you likely think of soup, chilis, and burgers. Skunk Hollow has all that — but so much more! Their stuffed mushrooms are out of this world. And their Thai noodle salad was unexpected and just spectacular. Other people in my party had the gnocchi, which I have to admit I repeatedly stole off their plate. But the Chicken Carlos won the day. With a full bar and custom cocktails, Skunk Hollow is an unexpected small town tavern that can hold its own in any big city.

I seemed to have received relative GAS upon eating here. 😕

We were really excited to have dinner here while visiting the area. Unfortunately, the overall experience was a letdown, especially given the high prices. My rating would have been two stars for the quality of the food, but the following highlights raised it to three stars: the staff, all very nice, the atmosphre, which was cheery, and the cocktails, which were great. Sadly, the food was just mediocre at best: beef pot pie ($23) was bland and not enjoyable; eggplant rollatini ($26) was overcooked and strangely paired with a huge portion of fettuccine and puréed sweet potatoes, so carb + carb + carb; and potato soup ($10), ordinary. Pricing was surprisingly aggressive for a casual pub atmosphere regardless of the quality. Maybe if we had tried the burger we would have fared better. The second floor is a white-tablecloth setting, though evidently it's the same menu as in the pub, so our experience would not have been any better had we been seated there. We were sorry Skunk Hollow didn't live up to its reviews.

We held a dinner with some 20 family members, madcap in composition. The food was very good, beautifully cooked and served. family whims were graciously accommodated. The tavern is charming. We loved it!

Due to inclement weather we had to eat inside, but I had no problem with this because this restaurant has great historical charm. The ambience is really good. We had the cheese plate (seasonal) for the appetizer and I had the Chicken Carlos for dinner. Both were quite good and I would definitely return again.

We were looking forward to dining at this small, funky place in an historic building, in the middle of nowhere. Dining is outside, post-Covid, with live music. The atmosphere and setting were great, as was the service. I wish I could say the same for the food. Strawberry Mojito cocktail special was nothing special, rather tasteless. My cup of roasted red pepper scallop soup was very tasty. I should have ordered a bowl and skipped the entree. Chicken Marsala was overcooked and bland served on undercooked, probably boxed, linguine. My husband thinks one star is generous. In any case, that one has been checked off the bucket list.

We were here on the first night for outdoor music since C-19. Local musicians performing and people sitting on lawn chairs. Mostly grey-haired ex-hippies. Everybody having a great time. The food was good and the service was like you were family.

Dinner was delicious! You don't really expect "take out" to be the best way to enjoy a meal, but it was so good. My husband had the Hollow Burger, which was cooked just as he likes it, still some pink. My son and I had the fish and chips, so tender and flaky. Very generous portions, lunch tomorrow :) The fries are very good, I appreciate them not being laden with salt. You can always add it, but too much spoils food, no going back. There's soup for tomorrow too, the mushroom curry, we sampled and it's a definite thumbs up. We also had the assorted bread, popovers were very good, nice and buttery at the base. It's nice to have three different choices, some for dinner, some for later, some for soup. We will be back, about 20 minutes from home, and well worth the drive. Staff was very helpful and pick up was easy.

We were referred to this restaurant by our innkeeper. What a treat! The atmosphere is historic New England pub at its best. The menu had a good variety and everything we had was delicious. The waitstaff was super friendly and helpful. I would recommend the Ruby Slipper cocktail. Although be careful it goes down easy. If you are in the area be sure to make a reservation and don’t miss a great dining experience.

Beautiful tavern with indoor dining room and outdoor dining, wonderful, fun & friendly staff, and the food is amazing! Menu changes and ingredients change for the dishes but fresh and creative and served hot. The stuffed mushrooms were perfect and burgers are one of the best we have had. So glad we went-loved the name!

Stopped by for a beer right at opening time. Was met at the door by possibly the owner? Went right to the bar where the bartender was immediately engaging. We ordered two draft beers at this cozy little bar. We also enjoyed the free popcorn....

Heading to Northern Vermont we opted to stop at the halfway point looking for a local place as opposed to a chain restaurant. We were not disappointed to find this gem! Homey and local with excellent food choices - my husband had the curry red...

Food is good; I wouldn't call it stylish more avant-garde but you go to a restaurant to eat not to admire the fixtures.

The name Skunk Hollow Tavern didn't conjure imagery of fine dining for me, but several people had spoken highly of this place, so I gave it a try. And I was glad I did. Very good food. Reasonable pricing on food and cocktails, beer. If you're going on a weekend or holiday make a reservation. You won't be disappointed.

This restaurant is seemingly in the middle of nowhere in an old Vermont farmhouse. But it's worth the drive for this fun and interesting atmosphere and one-of-a-kind experience. Skunk Hollow has a strangely eclectic menu that includes things you'd expect - like a good old burger (enjoyed by one of my dinner companions) to a cheese enchilada (which is what I had & was shockingly super delicious). Locals seem to know to get there early to snag the best seats & if you came for the live music (open mic night is on Wednesday, I believe) make sure you request a table downstairs. You may even want to make a reservation so you don't miss out.

"Love is Spoken Here" So read the front page of the Skunk Hollow Tavern's website, and having tried all the truly local places in Windsor, VT my wife and I figured that we should put a little travel into our dinner plans and see what the circa 18th century setting had to offer. We both like to eat at places with character and found that the Skunk Hollow Tavern is blessed with plenty of that thanks to a combination of historic tradition, great food, and New England Hospitality. My wife and I are fans of grey, rainy days and the pitter-patter of rain that had fallen all day serenaded us as we dodged the droplets and dashed into the tavern and back in time. "...You pass through the front door and are greeted by blazing logs in the massive center chimney fireplace. Tables and chairs are laid out on original wide beam hardwood floors around this imposing structure, and on the far side is the polished bar, where thousands of guests from near and far, regulars and first time visitors, have pulled up a stool to be welcomed with true, old-fashioned New England hospitality." (Skunk Hollow Tavern Website) Though the historic building is wired for electricity these days, only a few strands of fairy lights were lit. The rest of the light came from a burning candle at each occupied table. A fire crackled in the grate and we felt that we'd arrived at a crossroads between times. We were greeted quickly and (having made a reservation earlier), were led upstairs to where our own candlelit table awaited. As we were served drinks and finished taking photos, we put away our phones and marveled at the sensation of being back in time. With the rain tapping at the wide windows around us and no vehicle noise to speak of, you'd be hard press to name what year it was. We placed our order, and went for different types of cuisine to see if the quality stayed the same across the board (I went with Italian, and she got the burger). Twenty minutes of drinks and conversation later and our food arrived. Everything was delicious and by the meal's end we were wishing the Skunk Hollow had rooms for rent so we could wander down to the bar, drink in the atmosphere and wonderful selection of wine for a few more hours, then fall happily asleep. Alas, the Tavern is only an eatery, so we skipped the wine and headed back to our hotel. We'd definitely go back in a heartbeat if ever in the area again. The cost of the meal was comparable to a nice steak house dinner somewhere, and might have been a little high for what we ordered, but the atmosphere more than made up for the hit to the pocketbook. Love was truly spoke there.

Really cozy place with a cool history. The meals are fairly expensive, but the dessert is affordable and you really can't go wrong with anything. I've had the nightly special twice now and they were remarkable different and immensely flavorful both times.

Stopped in on a Thursday night after our air bnb hosts recommended it. Packed house. Great service, food, entertainment, AND patrons. Friendly everywhere. A group let my wife and I sit with them to eat our food. If we are back in VT, we will be back at Skunk Hollow!
