Woodys attention was above and beyond, from the moment you step in and until you walk out, this guy is gonna make sure you have a nice meal. The food was really good.

I really wanted to like this food, but sadly, we did not. Woody, (the owner?) is one of a kind, a bit abrasive and very old school. Cash Only. I don't write poor reviews often, or lightly. We won't be returning.

Very unique experience. We were wanting some BBQ and this place was just down the road. Soon as I walked in I was greeted by the owner "Woody" from back in the kitchen. Asked me want I wanted and I yelled out what I needed. He said "You got it" and I took a seat and began soaking it all in. The whole time he cooked he interacted with all his customers in the dining room. Once my order was ready, he yelled for me and I went up to the counter to pick it up and pay. This place reminded me what it was like to walk into grandma and grandpa's kitchen and I loved every minute of it. The pulled pork sandwiches were very good and hit the spot. We are definitely adding this to our "must stop here" places while in the area visiting.

Pretty impressive place for being run by one person. The food and service was great, Woody was very welcoming and made the place feel comfortable and more at-home. I'd totally come back here again :)

This place makes you feel like you're a time traveler gone off course. It reminds me of an old Twilight Zone episode where the broken down space man ends up on the wrong planet and tries to figure out where everybody is. "No way there's only one employee", you tell yourself. But soon judging the clutter and disorganization, you realize it's Woody himself. I can't speak to the food because we didn't stay to eat, too uncomfortable a vibe. It felt like we walked in on somebody getting ready to move and they forgot to turn off the open sign.

Down to earth, great food! We'll definitely be back!

Service was very rude. Grilled cheese was 2 hamburger buns put together. Mac n cheese was water and noodles with microwaved square cheese on top. Prices were so high for what it was. Only cash.

We visited today for the first time after driving past this place my whole life. I'm so glad we stopped in! The food was great and the owner was such a character. Very nice, with a "rough, old-school Chicago uncle" kind of vibe. The service was unbelievably fast. It's very laid back, sort of like you are just stopping by his house for dinner. Large servings, but if you have room left at the end, get the hot apple pie!

I want to Smokey's on the holiday Monday because there were no barbecue places open in the Benton harbor area. Smokin Woody's was about 15 minutes away from Benton harbor and Sawyer Michigan. I bought two orders of smoked rib tips the rib tips came with baked beans and coleslaw thank you Smoking Woody's

My husband and I ate here today and it was the most fun we have had dining out in a very long time. The food was amazing and the owner is a gem!!! OMG....BEST STEAK BURGER I HAVE EVER HAD AND APPLE PIE!!!

My husband and I just finished eating at Woody's and the whole experience was 10 out of 10. The food was absolutely delishes. The smoked BBQ chicken and ribs where fantastic. The potatoe was cooked perfectly with the right amount of sour cream. The beans where full of flavor and I typically don't like coleslaw but tried it and ended up eating the whole portion. I could eat a container full as a snack. The butter bun was crisp but still chewy and the bread pudding..oh. so. good! The owner was extremely welcoming and had a great sense of humor. The environment was relaxed and just what we needed on our wedding anniversary trip. I only wish we could have a restaurant like this one by our home. If ever in the area again we will be stopping here and highly recommend others do the same! You'll walk out with a full stomach and a smile on your face. Nothing beats those two things! Thank you!

We went here after the sand dunes, and this place is amazing. A true experience! Only one worker does everything, take the order,cook, and even came and sat with us for a few and chit chatted. Food was great, he is a master in the kitchen. We will definitely go again!

Woody was the only person working there, Food was terrible, and Woody was very rude and got mad at our 9 year old son for using his iPad, and was very rude to me for using my phone. Woody also made a big deal about me not allowing my child to go by himself. Would not recommend! It really needs to have a surprise inspection by the health department. It was also was very expensive. 0 Stars. BEWARE!!

The food was not all that. The owner was extremely rude when taking our orders, not even letting us finish telling him our order before asking the next person for theirs. When asking about the sides he said we’d get whatever he wanted to give us. First and last time we will be eating here. Food is too expensive to get such poor customer service and the cleanliness of the place needs work. Not sure if the problem was that we are hispanic, but would not recommend.

Local place with lots of character! Woody runs everything himself and does a great job. I enjoyed talking to him a lot! I got the BBQ Beef sandwich and really liked it (I prefer my beef sliced a bit thinner, but no points off for that!). My friend got the rib tips dinner, which wasn't exactly what we were expecting. Great smoke flavor, but the meat wasn't very tender and there was MUCH more fat than expected. The beans were good, the slaw was OK. I'll go back again, but definitely will avoid the rib tips.

This place is a classic. Woody is gregarious and witty guy with an amazing memory. Just wanted a simple hot dog. Percect Chicago dog. The fries and strawberry shake were icing on the cake. Lots of BBQ options looked delicious. Easily a new go-to place in the area.

Woody was the only one working there and we had roughly 4 other parties dining in. We have 3 young children in our family and were with friends who have 2 young children. Woody was rude and abrasive to us and the children. Hindsight 20/20 we should have walked out after the first rude interaction. The BBQ was so-so. Definitely recommend trying other places along Red Arrow highway than giving him business. Spare yourself a poor experience.

Went to Michigan with a family for a weekend . Drove by this place and decided to try it . Absolutely loved it . Friendly stuff , tasty food . Super fresh .

Woody is definitely a character and genuinely a good man. He is proud of his food as he has every reason to be. I had the rib tips and they were awesome. Perfectly smoked and bbqd. Tips were a bit tough, but the flavor easily made up for it. It's obvious he's a master smoker. Portions were huge. Will def be back when visiting Warren Dunes again. Excellent food!

After reading reviews on this place, I knew it was a "must visit" for our trip. I'm so glad we did! The owner, "Woody", greeted us, cleaned our table, made our food, and visited with us while we ate our lunch. He was so friendly and our BBQ pork over mac & cheese was very yummy! This place has so much character from the menu being written on a big sheet of paper, to the self serve fountain drinks having a hodge podge of various cups to pick from, to the many different items of decor all over the place. It's definitely unique but we really enjoyed it and highly recommend it!

I've been smoking ribs for 55 years and have won numerous competitions. That is a long timeline, however, this was possibly my worst rib experience ever; restaurant and food wise. Do yourself a favor and read only the bad reviews, if you want a true understanding of the likes of this place. There is no reason for me to repeat what has already been said by the other one star reviewers. He does one thing right and that is the size of the rib rack. I can't vouch for the meat quality since they are prepared so badly. Baby backs should be 9-10 ribs and be 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 lbs. Marinade for 1 hour in gal. of water with 1 cup kosher salt and 1/2 sugar. Pat dry and put on rub, to your taste, for 1/2 hour before smoking. Roughly 1 Tbs per side. Rub: The following are all TBS. 4 sweet papricka, 2 chili powder,2 gr.cumin, 2 dark brn sugar, 2 salt, 1 oregano, 1 gra. sugar, 1 blk. pepper, 1 white pepper, and 1-2 TEA Spoons cayenne. I'll assume you know how to cook at, low and slow temperatures, and how much smoking wood to use. BEST WITHOUT SAUCE!

Very bad ribs the type were you have to chew it off the bone.I dont know if i would even feed these ribs to my dog.Also the man came out and was telling us how good his food was but in reality it was terrible, do not recommend at all very pricey as well

If you see this place open, better stop by! Best rib tips, cheeseburger was better than mine, and gf loved the bbq turkey sandwich! He's retired, so it's a, 'I'm open when I want to' is what he said. Been there several times over the years, and I stop in when I can. This picture is not even half the order of rib tips.

Damn best BBQ outside of Texas and Kansas City. As a over the road truck driver,I've ate all the country. This is some of the bet BBQ out here. I most certainly will be back.

If you are around Warren Dunes State Park you have to stop in. Kinda pricey, but you have to meet the cook.!!!! You will get it, if you stop in. Absolutely lived this place and the food was good.

Place is owned and operated by 1 guy, and he's just as great as the food. Prices are a bit on the expensive side, but the foods worth it.

Small local business but very unique place. We are visiting Sawyer a lot but that was first time dinning here and we are happy that we did because the Tips of the ribs was amazing and the pork barbeque also. Very tasty,juicy and finger liking delicious. Thanks to the owner who put a lot of heart and effort into to his work. 👍😃👌 Support the small local business and try the food they are prepared. Great place and great food. It is a one man band operation. I will be happy to go back again. It is about 2 or 3 miles south of Warren Dunes park. If you go to the Dunes and not stop you are doing your stomach a huge disservice. Beware cash only

This is a truly unique small town gem. The food is amazing. But I’ll warn you if your looking for fancy, upscale dining this is not that place. This is good old fashioned southern roadside barbecue with no frills and no fuss. You get your own drinks, bus your own table and pick up your order at the counter. Did I mention the food is amazing! Indoor and outdoor dining. CASH ONLY. Simple menu with all your favorites and so much food you will want to but may not be able to eat it all.

So this is a small place off the Highway in Sawyer and we found it based on fair restaurants reviews. You walk in and the menu is on a white board. Serve yourself drinks from the pop machine, order at the window from Woody himself. And he does it all. I ordered the Veal Sausage and it came with a soft bun, baked beans, delicious coleslaw and best baked potato. I ordered the apple pie separate and ate it first and it was so yummy. There were 8 in our party and we were their only guests. Everyone raves how good the food was. And Woody is great. I agree with the review if you just want good food this place is for you. If you get offended about everything, are in a hurry and expect to be served with a silver spoon then go somewhere else.

Food is good. The atmosphere is unique and worth a trip. The owner "Woody" is a real character. We were there at an off hour so we had time to talk. He has extensive knowledge about his products and when I asked for a pineapple soda (the ice cream kind) he said that it was not on the menu, but that he would make me one - which he did. We and our five grandchildren all enjoyed and will be returning the next time we are hungry in Sawyer!

I had the BBQ ribs. They were really good and came with beans, coleslaw, tater tots & a roll. My husband had the BBQ pork sandwich and he really enjoyed that. The pie was good too, and the owner is quite the character. Biking distance from the campground.

Best BBQ for 100 miles (and I'm from Texas). Smokin' Woody is a local celebrity and may even join you for dinner. The Rib Tips are amazing and be sure to get the Fried Green Beans to accompany. You can also visit his Chicago location in Lakeview but this is the original.

Excellent food, lots of character, including the owner. He speaks his mind and deserves to do so, since his food is so outstanding. If you are friendly to the staff, you will also get wonderful service. Worth driving out of the way to get here.

Spotted this place, turned around! It was between meals so really just stopped to see what they had. Wandered over to the soda fountain area and spotted a sign for phosphate drinks. My friend and I both got a chocolate. Tasty, cold, inexpensive. Will eat there next time I'm in the area.

My experience was terrific we stopped to look a a car and ended up grabbing lunch. Everything was superb. Mike the owner is a great guy took the time to talk to us and even talked to my 5 year old.... very very good.
