Great BBQ, sayse wassweet mustard based. Parking was a little tight but over all well worth the stop

Nice place. Not enough indoor seating for elderly or disabled people. Really nice atmosphere. The food was good. I had the Cuban sandwich. The fries are not included which is ridiculous. The fries are awesome. Homemade fries.

It's always my first stop. Something happened yesterday that was a bit weird. We had just finished our meal and the busboy came over immediately ask ask to clear the table. As he cleared the table, he looked at my husband and said we need the table. HUH? I ask my husband, what did he just say? He told me they need the table. As we got up, I noticed the two top next to us were empty, the four top behind us were empty, the four top next to the register was empty. There was no line waiting. Outside the tables in front were empty but it was raining so I got that but in the tent covered garden there were several benches empty. Once again, there is no line. No one waiting to be seated. Had it been busy and there was a line, I could see it from where we sat and moved along on our own to make room, but this was just weird. I dropped the service rating because of it. Your staff is usually spot on so I'm a bit confused. Maybe some retraining in in order to your bussers.

Pretty good BBQ. They run out fast of their meats though. Very big portions. Limited parking.

This is what barbecue should be, I would give them six stars. If I could more brisket fell out of my sandwich then Sonny’s gives you.

BBQ Soul food - just follow the delicious smell, so good you’d contemplate moving to St Simons in Georgia - we got the 2 meat, 2 sides special, picked the brisket and pork ribs, coleslaw and ‘best’ Mac n cheese … washed down with a Bud light - gave our Aussie BBQ a bit of a nudge off the perch! Defiantly worth a stop.

I just visited here while on vacation from New York. I'd heard a lot of great things about this place from friends and family who spend time on St. Simon's, and was expecting great food here. I ordered a combo plate that included their pulled pork and ribs - both were extremely dry. The pulled pork was lacking so much moisture that no sauce could save it, and the ribs that I expected to be fall-off-the-bone were lacking any tenderness, and had to be chewed off of the bone. I could not finish either one. The greens also disappointed in their lack of flavor. After this experience, I am shocked to say there is MUCH better barbecue in New York. I hope the owners take note and try to adjust the quality of their food moving forward.

Very disappointed with the food all around. Prime rib was sold out by noon, the pulled pork was dry and flavorless, the ribs were tough as can be and dry, and I was denied a Bushwhacker that I had already ordered and paid for because it wasn’t “frozen yet.” I’ve been here in the past and the food was very good but sadly the quality has dropped substantially given my experience and recent reviews. Reputation may still bring customers in the door but they will leave disappointed and wondering what all the hype is about. Unless they make a big change soon, there are far better bbq places on SSI that deserve your business.

Great Georgia BBQ at Southern Soul. The frozen drinks are great too. I got the #7 three meat sampler (ribs, brisket and turkey). It’s a big serving so bring a big appetite! Great sides and stew are also included.

Amazing food, must try in the area and one of the best in GA!

I hesitated to come here after seeing more recent reviews that have been pretty mixed. I’m very happy I decided to go. The pulled pork sandwich was incredibly good. Good bark and was lean…without being dried out. French fries weren’t good. But who cares, bbq was excellent!!! Will try another side next time.

It’s cramped inside. There are flies around outside (that’s BBQ, what can you do?). It’s not ideal for kids. They forgot one of my items and one of our sides. The food is good though. It didn’t feel special. I’d go again, but not with my kids.

The place is open from 11 to 7. Fridays special is prime rib. They sell out of prime rib in an hour. I drive two hours to buy nothing. Girl said you have to come earlier. Piss poor management. Great way to lose money and customers. I wound up going to Scott's BBQ for some excellent brisket. Until they learn how to manage their purchasing and inventory control they should only be open from 11 to 12.

Food was hitting on all the notes. Line was long. But that is a good sign when it comes to Barbecue. Kids loved the sides.

Save your money. The overpriced brisket was fatty and chewy. The potato salad and collard greens were fine, but nothing special.

Good ribs, fantastic pulled pork, fantastic BLT! Bbq beans are delicious, French fries are good too. The hush puppies were a little dry and not served with any sauce. The cubano is so yummy. It’s not fast food, so it takes some time and it is so worth the wait! We’ve been 4 times this week while visiting! My favorite it the BLT with beans.

I had the brisket plate with collards and mac and cheese. The brisket was dry, the collards had no salt, and the Mac and cheese was comically bad. I was extremely disappointed. This place was highly recommended. They must have been off their game. I would try it again just to see if it was a bad day.

When me and my family Went to souls bbq the Service was good but when we got the food it was cold and it did not taste good in my opinion I do not think it was worth more than 100$.

Drove 2 hrs to experience this place, and all I can say is barf!!! Everything was very dry. The brisket was full of fat! The ribs were chewy and did not fall off the bone. The pulled pork lacked flavor. This place is definitely overrated. Don't waste your time or money here. Yuck!!!

I am highly pissed the fact that they missed up my food and gave me just a big chicken instead of a rib sandwich

A colleague at work whose hometown is Claxton/Jonesboro had recommended Southern Soul Barbeque. We were not disappointed at all. I finished my meals all at one sweep, same with my family. They closed early on Friday. But open longer hours on Saturday(11am-8pm). It was a great taste for the price ($50+) of what we ordered.

Always a happy place to stop and have great BBQ.

A good friend sent me Pic 📸 of a fine looking brisket sandwich that he couldn't pick up because it was so heavy. So part of my eastern coastal bbq food tour, we headed to St Simon's Southern Soul barbecue. Loved the service and the atmosphere. The brisket is huge portions but the star 🌟 of the show was the ribs, smokey and sweet and just the right amount of spice. Mac and cheese 🧀 and collards a must. Thanks for taking care of us, a pleasure!

Very good service and fast, sides are unfortunately the best part of the food here. Bbq is basically uneatable. If you love tough meet, this is your place. Ribs were almost impossible to separate from the bone and very difficult to chew and the brisket was this constantly bad (rubber hard). We paid &130 for ribs, brisket sandwiches and three sides with their “famous” premade pudding. So disappointing after reading some of the positive reviews. Service was fast and they are polite so I gave an extra star.

Always a crowd pleaser for our family! Pulled pork is a favorite of ours. The fried okra was seasoned and breaded well. We try to visit every time we are in town.

It's one of the best BBQ sandwiches I'd ever had, and their sweet sauce is fire!

So thankful for the patient employee who got out a 3 ring binder with each menu item’s allergens! Lots of gluten free options for our child with celiac. He ordered sliced pork with vinegar bbq sauce and brisket chili. 5 stars for service and accommodating allergies.

A rare miss, normally fantastic, eaten here dozens of times, but tonight the food and service were well below their usual standards.

Delicious food! It's best to get there early because it is such a popular place, they do run out of certain items some nights. Indoor seating is very limited, but they do have covered picnic tables and outdoor fans.

An electric atmosphere with mostly outdoor seating, smiling staff, and some of the best barbecue I’ve ever eaten. The brisket is prepped to perfection, and sausage is smoked to an outside crisp and inside juicy flavoring. If you’re visiting St Simon’s, this really is a must.

Average food, limited parking and tables, too hot to sit outside in the heat. I don’t understand the raves. We’ve given up on this place.

Got this for takeaway for lunch. Decent BBQ, but inconsistent in cook and seasoning. Had a giant chunk that was so black we at first thought we'd been given a charcoal briquette. Brunswick stew was good, as were the fries. Hush puppies good but had jalapeno and corn kernels in them, and the jalapeno was not mentioned on the menu.

Amazing BBQ, do yourself a favor and stop here after spending a day on the beach. Good drinks, great BBQ, on a shack 5 minutes from the beach. If that doesn't butter your bisquit, you need to re-examine your priorities in life.

Great brisket chili & pulled pork. Girls at register have no clue what kind of beer they sell...at $7 a pop I should know what brewery and name. Place is tiny and parking tight.

We wanted to like this more, but the mac and cheese was dry, and we didn't really like the bbq sauces. The brisket and pulled pork were tasty and the slaw was good.

The wife and I were hungry for some good BBQ we saw this place on Drive in and Dives. We tried it and we were not disappointed. it was real good. We will be back again, when we are in town. We recommend coming here.

First time eating here after 3 years on the island and it was good. We both got the brisket which was a tad dry as was the Mac and cheese. After spending most of my life in Austin, Texas I will say that the food is not over smoked, it’s seasoned well and is better than most of what they try to pass off as bbq in this region. The lady taking orders looks annoyed at being there. The food is very expensive and the brisket on the menu says “market” price. That was a first!! Since beef does not have a season that says to me they like to adjust price for the summer tourists. There was also vomit next to one of the tables no one bothered to clean up and we kept smelling it. With tip we spent over $60 for 2 people.

Brisket & smoked chicken were awesome! Delicious sides, too! Mac & cheese went quickly. This place is an island staple, and it never disappoints.

I’ve heard about this place so we decided to give it a try. First things first, the Brunswick stew was the best I’ve ever had. The brisket and pulled pork had perfect flavor. The only reason I give this place four stars instead of five is the ribs. Great flavor, but the ribs were mostly fat.. I am willing to give this place another try, and we will be back!

The ribeye was really good, but my greens lacked flavor. The baked beans were good. Parking is a challenge. The lines to order are long.

My husband and I ate here a couple of times during our recent visit, as it was within walking distance to our cottage. Tried both the brisket and smoked turkey. Both were so, so good! I would rate the meats at this establishment among the best barbeque I have ever eaten. We tried several sides and found them lacking on flavor but the meat more than made up for it!

We recently had Southern Soul cater our rehearsal dinner, and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice! The food was delicious, and the staff was incredible. Rachael was amazing to work with during our planning, and Benjamin provided amazing service at our event. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for catering on St. Simons!

The food quality has slipped since my last visit to St. Simons. The cole slaw was dry and tasteless and the collards were tough and over seasoned. However, it was still a cool experience. Happy to see that they have added another covered dining area. Lastly, I was annoyed that they have had to resort to using the "tip screen" when paying. They don't actually "wait" on you at the table. I guess they justify since they do deliver the food after calling your name.

Best southern dry barbecue I have found on the island. Pork barbecue sandwich generous servings, sides available okra breaded and fried to perfection. Seating inside and out. Inside baseball on tv , what could be better. Soft drinks, wine, beer available.

I heard about Southern Soul online and after checking out so many reviews, I had to give it a go. In fact, I’ve given it three goes in the past two weeks. I’ve had the ribs, wings, brisket and pork. As for the sides, beans, fried okra, Mac and cheese, hoppin John, Brunswick stew, brisket chili, coleslaw and collards. Okay. My two cents. Two out of the three visits, the ribs have been absolutely amazing. By far the best ribs I’ve ever had. Today’s visit resulted with tougher than desirable rib texture, but hey it can’t always be perfect right?! Their wings are so crispy and moist; highly recommend. I absolutely love their brisket. It’s moist and so tender without being super fatty. Their pulled pork was dry one day and absolutely amazing another day. YOU HAVE to get their mustard sauce and hot sauce. Absolutely perfect! All of their sides are okay… nothing to really scream out loud for.. however their meats are elite. Catch them on a good day and it’s absolutely amazing. When smoking meats, timing is everything and to keep up with their non-stop business they must adjust. I think my personal favorite optimal time to dine is Wednesday afternoon. I truly do love this place and I will definitely go back to try even more menu items. Plus the drive is quite relaxing up from Jacksonville.

Good food at a good price, the ladies that work there have zero personality and look so unhappy with what they do. Never a smile or hello or a have a nice day. Felt like I was interrupting their phone scrolling. I would eat there again but don’t expect nice or friendly

Closed on Tuesdays, and worth the wait! I had to go Wednesday, after driving there to a closed business Tuesday, but the food was so good I didn’t even care. It’s worth the hype. Get a shirt for me when you go! Got hush puppies, collard greens, baked beans, fatty brisket, smoked wings, a corn dog, a chilli dog and a big smile.

The service was friendly The atmosphere is laid back and chill However we weren't happy with our food our sides weren't anything like my southern favorites . The Peach Cobbler was dry and no banana pudding. There was no wait and that was a plus, and friendly service

This place screams southern bbq at its best! We had the pulled pork and ribs and they were to die for! The drinks were great and you can smell the cooking down the street. There were several reviews including Diners, drive ins and dives and Pitmasters. There a reason they were on it so come on down for some southern hospitality!

Our first time was exceptional, 10/10 highly recommend! We were the first ones there, and we sat at the bar. Patrick gave us his recommendations on food and drinks, and he did not disappoint! He also let us try some of his own hot sauce, and we ended up buying a bottle of it in the gift shop. We had the brisket burnt ends, pork plate, Mac and cheese, okra, beans, potato salad, collards and pina coladas. 🤌🏼 We will definitely be back when we visit SSI again!

The round about makes it hard to get to but definetly worth it. Amazing atmosphere. The BBQ sandwhich flavor wise is not the most impressive however it is huge. I recommend the sweet sauce.

Revisited Southern Soul yesterday after what I remember as the best bbq ribs I've ever had. What a disappointment! My husband and I stumbled upon this place about eight years ago while vacationing in the area and were eager to indulge ourselves again. We traveled from our vacation spot on Jekyll Island eagerly anticipating this meal. It was such a huge disappointment. The ribs were tough and lukewarm. My fries dead on arrival and when I requested a new order they were barely warm as well. After a 30 mile bike ride I couldn't wait to indulge myself in what I had hoped would be my reward. What a waste of calories!

Not the quality it used to be. The ribs were significantly undercooked. The slaw was so bland. Buns seemed old and crumbly. No one in our group liked their meal. Sorry, but we don’t recommend and will not return.

We were excited to try this local legend of a bbq establishment. We were greeted by the the cashier saying her head hurt which was apparently from waiting on customers. I played it off and told her I would be easy but she still messed up my order. Not sure how you miss an order of fries vs potatoe chips but apparently her head hurt. All I can say is if the life blood of your establishment makes your head hurt then find a job outside the service industry please. As for the food.... My wife was served a big black hair with a salad. The waitress took back the black hair and returned 10 minutes later with a hairless chicken salad. Might I add that the smoked chicken salad ordered on the salad was best thing I tasted during this visit. My oldest son and I ordered deluxe smoked turkey sandwiches on white. I've never paid $18 for a turkey sandwich on wonder bread that had zero smoke flavor and no sides but I guess we were eating at the St. Simons legend. Maybe we should have visited Larry's subs next door instead for the big footlong turkey with a drink and sides for the same price. So disappointed by the wonder bread smokeless turkey sandwich. The youngest son devoured his pulled pork sandwich which was delicious from the bite I had. The side of fries that were not included with the $18 sandwich were tasty but would have been much better if they were hot and fresh. Parking is limited and you get a good taste of jet fuel from the island run way across the street with private jets taking off depending on your hour of visit. Unfortunately in my opinion, as they have become more popular the quality has dropped and the commitment to customer service has waivered. Pricing has also escalated the value in my opinion but they might not care due to the demand. I will say that the Beachcomber bbq I had the day before was much more favorable and reasonably priced. I love St Simons for all of the local establishment s but they need to keep up the quality with the rapid demand and higher pricing. Hopefully I just visited on an off day...

Parking was a challenge, there was a small line. No where to sit—- but it was well worth it! The pork sandwich was the best ever. Great Collards, great prices! We are true southerners and this place is Amazing!

Both times I've had the opportunity to eat here the food has been great! It isn't over-salted or burnt, the sides alway have a great taste, and the prices are reasonable.

Very poor service!!! Told the lady at the register that I’ve never been there before. I asked what’s good what’s the best? What do you recommend again? Nothing. She said absolutely nothing to me so I chose to plate of pulled pork. I asked her what sauce was good on it I got nothing no answer, what sides do you like is what she said to me greens and what else do you recommend? She said nothing to me I choose french fries horrible, horrible decision french fries looked and tasted like they were made three days ago. Threw back in Grease disgusting ! collard greens. We’re good everything else my plate look like it been thrown together by a two-year-old. Disgusting NO Pride in the work they do should not have lefT A tip was not worth my time even going there better luck to whoever tries it next I came all the way from Michigan wanting to try this place and very very very disappointed.

GA do better and get rid of all the plastic and styrofoam! My take out order included 3 sets of plastic utensils. It’s take out - I have cutlery at home. Let people decide if they want it. Today my jumbo pulled pork sandwiches were missing the pickles. My bbq chicken looked beautiful, but lacked flavor and salt. My fried okra and fries were cooked in old oil. Never consistent, but so popular. Service always stellar!

Delicious! The ribs were so tender! We bought a rack and shared it. Burger and pulled pork sandwich also hits. One child liked the mac and cheese and one wouldn't eat it. Baked beans were good but not any better than other good BBQ restaurants. Most seating is outside undercover.

Very underwhelmed. I have had better BBQ in New England. Beef brisket, pulled pork, coleslaw dry. French fries over done. Mac and cheese was good. Outside seating to the left of the bar one could smell the garbage dumpster.

Ate dinner at 6pm 3-14-24. First time customer. Employees friendly and atmosphere very casual. Wife had ribs and I had the pork plate. Sadly was disappointed in both. The pulled pork was very dried out and had to heavily dunked in sauce to try and moisten soften it to eat. The ribs were also very dried out and not tender. It was as if since we were there late in the day the meats had been in a warmer or something way to long and dried them out. The sides were good but nothing to rave about. The couple that were with us had the turkey and chicken which looked better then what we had.

We had the pulled pork, brisket and 1/2 smoked chicken and all were great. We particularly loved the brisket as it was very moist and delicious. The next day we got the fried chicken (only on sunday) and it was also very good, but have to say the brisket was our favorite. Service was fast for takeout and everyone was very pleasant. Will come back next time in town.

I used to visit this establishment on a regular basis some years back, however, I stopped due to the ribs were becoming more inconsistent. At that time management asked me not to order the ribs anymore instead of asking how they could improve on my order. To be perfectly honest, my experience, was a hit or miss. I decided to give it another try 6 days ago because it was late and I was in the area and I really wanted some ribs for dinner. My ribs were burnt and dried out, and for the pricing and tip, they should always be consistent. My smoked wings were unseasoned and dry as well, the only positive, they were temperature hot. My husband was really trying to eat it, however I noticed the look on his face so I threw the entire meal in the trash. At that time I didn't contact them to make a complaint, I had decided I just wouldn't give them anymore of my money. I have always loved their sweet tea, I was about to order one, however I noticed by the tea stand, there were a pitcher of tea uncovered and customers were over there standing by the uncovered tea, due to the fact that the flu and covid is highly active in this area, I decided it was best for me to pass. The only reason I rated it a three, is because it may be a hit or a miss. This has been my experience.

My husband has been raving about this place since they catered for GSU a few years ago. We ended our trip to Jekyll by visiting. We got there at 11 on Sunday and a line had already formed. Which meant I was about to eat good. The food did not disappoint. We got the sampler and I loved the turkey. It was so juicy and flavorful. The brisket was amazing and the ribs were tasty. I was surprised the Brunswick stew was actually good. I usually hate it at other places. It had a tomato vinegar kind of flavor which right now is my very strong craving. I absolutely loved the vinegar based bbq sauce. Highly recommend giving them a try.

OUTSTANDING BBQ - we had the pulled pork with sides of mac and cheese & cole slaw. Got it to go. Got all 4 sauces and we each liked one of the 4 (there were 4 of us eating). Ample servings. The Pulled Pork is probably the best I've ever eaten. DEFINITELY worth the stop.

Six of us had lunch here the other day and probably the best Cue ever. We placed our orders inside and in a short while our food was brought out to us. We all had the barbecued shredded pork sandwiches with a variety of sides. Their signature sauce is excellent and everyone came away satisfied and happy. Parking might be an issue but we found a spot down the street a bit in front of some other stores.

Possibly my favorite BBQ spot now. I ordered the pork sandwich with a mustard base sauce and I couldn't get enough of it. I also ordered fried okra and macaroni and cheese which were both out of this world.

Ate here for lunch. Like those who wrote reviews before me, my beef brisket was dry and cold. When I brought it to the register to let them know, the cashier actually touched the meat and argued with me saying, “It feels hot to me”. I had to ask twice to have it replaced. I had only eaten 1/3 of the first piece (1/2 lb. Order). I wasn’t trying to scam my way into free food. When they brought out my replacement, it was warmer…but still overcooked and dry. :( When the tab is over $40 for two BBQ plates and two fountain drinks, I expect the meal to be amazing. Not sure what has changed with staff or ownership of this restruant but I won’t be going back. Worst over priced BBQ.

👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽 - Definitely a great barbecue establishment located in St. Simons Island, GA. A colleague and I swung by at Southern Soul Barbecue for an early dinner. Though the brisket were already sold out, the dishes we ordered were on point. Joe ordered the 1/2 Slab of Pork Ribs with Baked Beans and Mac n’ Cheese as the sides. I ordered the Pig Sandwich accompanied by Collard Greens and Baked Beans.

Pretty cool place. The ribs were pretty good with homemade barbecue sauces. I think it's one of the better restaurants in St. Simons Island and pretty reasonably priced.

Great smoked turkey and BBQ ribs. The Brunswick stew and BBQ beans were delicious, too. Very small inside. We got there around 4:45pm and were able to get a table. By the time we left, the place was mobbed.
