We read the reviews and decided to try since we were in the area. The best most tender oxtails I've had outside of my own 🤣. Everything was delicious! The servings were more than generous. My husband had fried shrimp which were cooked to order, crispy but not over cooked. He cole slaw was fresh and very tasty! Couldn't ask for better service! We took sweet potato and pecan pies home for later, definitely no room. We will be back for sure.

Had diverticulitis and I was hungry. My friend and I ended up here, had the mash potatoes, baked juicy chix and bread. My tummy hasn’t felt this good in a while the food was delicious and fresh! Well done ! I’ll be back for the whole menu soon♥️

This place was amazing, the woman who showed us the menu was awesome, she was funny! The food was soooo good! I got the oxtail and man was it delicious! If you have not been here and you’re looking for some good southern cookin check them out!

I ordered the baked chicken, collards, mac & cheese and the blueberry cobbler. I ate it all. The chicken was so moist, the mac &cheese so cheesy and the collards just plain good. Steph food is definitely good and its customers so diverse.

Absolutely delicious soul food! I got the catfish meal and my wife got the seafood meal. The castfish, crab cake and shrimp was amazing! For sides we got sweet potatoe casserole, broccoli casserole, mac n cheese, and chicken and dumplings. Everything felt like it was made like some good home cooking during the holidays. Warm and delicious. Great sweet tea and watermelon lemonade. Then we finished it off with blueberry pie and banana pudding. One of the best meals ive had in a long time. See yall soon!

My son had the chicken, and ribs. The food was so good and they gave you large portions. I had the fish and vegetables. Everything is cooked fresh nothing out of the can. Highly recommended

Stephs' staff always great you with a smile. I recomend beef tips over mashed potatoes and gravy, with black eyed peas and cornbread. The millionaires brownie is my go to for dessert. I love this place.

Great food, all home made and a great variety. Definitely check out the menu on their website. The atmosphere is simple to keep the cost of the food down which is delicious.

Everything was a little confusing, it was explained kind of like running a marathon. Mashed potatoes were so hard your spoons stood up in them. Cornbread was kind of like a hockey puck. Food was 😑 meh My son got the beef tips and rice and I think it was ironic that they counted his rice as a side? Okra was fantastic because it was fresh made. Being from the south there wasn't a whole lot of southern here.

This is definitely a hidden gem. Their food is amazing southern soul food.

For take out, one of the employees gave me and my family small portions of food and did not put gravy on my youngest sibling's mashed potatoes. There's mosquitos flying around the food also.

Cute little diner but food is not good... Based on previous reviews, I decided to try liver and onions. What a disappointment... liver was very tough and tasted awful. Even onions tasted off... how do you mess up caramelized onions, seriously? Corn bread was very dry and crumbly. Gravy and squash casserole were not too bad, even though casserole was greasy. Mashed potatoes did not taste fresh. Overall, very disappointed... maybe it was an off day or I picked wrong items

Drove an hour to try this restaurant. The food was pretty good. Not very welcoming. I had no idea how to order. It was a buffet style but someone serves you. However, customer service didn't explain it very well and it was a bit confusing. We didn't know where to go to get started. No greeting as we came in.

If you have craving for real fried chicken and soulful southern food make the trip here. It's amazing

A wonderful restaurant to eat outstanding southern soul food! We love to eat when we're over this way. Forget your chain restaurants...eat homecooked food here!! Served cafeteria style, with your drinks refilled by an attentive server. This is good food, y'all!

Truly food for your soul this place is awesome the chicken dumplings you have to try as they are truly delicious everything else Tate's very good too and the staff is very friendly and awesome

If you are looking for a “home” cooked, southern, soulful meal, this is the place! Oxtails and collard greens were amazing, the mini pecan and sweet potato pies are the perfect portions… I wanted to go back for their sautéed chicken and fried catfish, but had no room…🙃

This place is a jewel , I have a friend who said you need to try Steph's...and so I did...from the parking lot the smells of food was delicious, as I enter the place , I got to see the food that I was smelling from the parking lot...no disappointment at all, the smell and the taste were impeccable...I will be back many times....hope you have the time to check it out...✌️

From the catfish to the fried chicken, everything in this place is amazing! There are too many sides to choose from, and the desserts are delicious. Go there, and I guarantee you that you will be back!

Absolutely great food, amazing service, and excellent atmosphere. This is the best bang for your buck. It's a different kind of menu style. Be prepared to get full and happy.

My first time going to this restaurant. No staff around to welcome you in. I was confused at the ordering process but read the signs and waited at the beginning/start here sign. I assume that it was the owner that was doing order fulfillment behind the line. He was the only one pulling the entrees and sides and placing them on the tray as you go down the line. He was not very personable and also appeared to be impatient when you are deciding your sides etc. When you ask him a question about the food he would almost snap at me while answering. Long story short, he seemed mean. The food was OK, nothing to write home about. The mac n cheese was dry and void of seasoning. The yellow rice was good, except it was dry and also not seasoned well. The key lime cake is very good as well as the chocolate cake. I will not be returning to this restaurant.

This place was a welcome surprise! It had the best fried chicken I have ever tasted. I would highly recommend and the service was outstanding.

One of those places where you drive to with a purpose: good food. I had a plate full; chicken breast, green beans, broccoli rice bake, bread roll, and a small salad. For desert a sugar free coconut pie,which deserves 5 stars by itself!

I actually love the food at this place and have been recommending it to my friends. Until I was able to actually make the trip yesterday after work and a male worker there was extremely rude because I wanted my food to go. He became disrespectful and honestly a little embarrassing . For that fact alone I will not go back or tell anyone else about it.

Usually have a great experience here but today was not up to par. Male took my order over the phone . I have repeated my order multiple times and he said yes i got it only to still have my collard greens missing. They’re closed right now so its a lost cause

We came here for lunch because we wanted to try somewhere new with country style food. Steph’s soul food exceeded our expectations! The mashed potatoes were the best I’ve ever had. My husband said the fried chicken was the absolute best ever! We like to try different “hole in the wall” places and Steph’s is a hidden gem in Dade City. I loved all the history on the walls. Everyone was so friendly and it was nice to be greeted as we walked into the restaurant. We’ll definitely be back.

If you want guaranteed good food at a reasonable price you go to Steph's. Simple as that. We drive there from Spring Lake whenever we want to go out for dinner.

So something to the food after COVID. It lost it’s “soul”, no longer authentic or soul food and that is too bad. I came four times for the oxtail and catfish dinners thinking the cook was having a bad day. I am sorry. Need to get that soul food chef back!

Husband and I got the meatloaf and collard greens. I got the squash casserole and he got mashed potatoes and gravy. Collard greens and squash casserole tasted good. Meatloaf was just OK. We ate there one other time and my husband got the meatloaf then, too. He thought it was better the first time. Almost immediately after eating, my stomach felt off. Not sure if something may have had MSG in it. Oftentimes I can't tolerate it very well. Steph's isn't the restaurant to go to if you want atmosphere since it doesn't have any.

The food at Steph’s is always delicious. The prices are reasonable and the portions are fair from my experience ordering takeout. The inside isn’t much but that doesn’t matter because it’s the food I keep coming back for. You’re served cafeteria style and there’s a good variety to choose from. The staff have always been pleasant and I’ve never felt rush to pick an entree or side while in line. The food is easy to view which is important when selecting from the abundant choices. The oxtails are amazing. There was plenty of meat on the bone, the flavor was perfect, plus the two sides. I’ve not had a bad meal here. Definitely stop and visit if you’re in the area.

It was very clean, the staff was very friendly and nice, the fried okra and fried greenbeans were really good, the baked chicken had good flavor. I didn't love the collard greens or greenbeans, but the fruit salad and veggies were fresh.

Food is okay. Owners are prejudice and rude. It’s my understanding the husband is supposed to be a preacher but I don’t see that he is rude with an IDGAF attitude. Speaks down to customers, especially white or Latin customers . Certainly lacking in southern hospitality and lack of Christianity. Will never go back !

The parking lot is little but full. The place is small but it’s a hidden gem! We were welcomed immediately upon walking in. We were explained the menu, with pricing. Buffet style. Amazing food.! Fried chicken is fabulous. Not dry, seasoned just right. Collard greens & gumbo amazing. Just met Harold that owns the restaurant while sitting here writing this review. He has also pastors the church next door. He says there is room for semi’s by restaurant.

The food is awesome. But the people on the line and service really sucks. I asked the name of a dish and was told if I didn't know what it was for me not to order it. I love to try new foods all over the U.S. but I missed out on ox tail all because the server was mad. Place really sucks in the aspect. So in all the US southern soul food places this ranks the worst in Southern-ness.

Nothing beats southern homestyle soul. Just hits the spot from the first bite to the last.

Lord have mercy, had the chicken and dumplings and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't as good as my grandma's . Collards were perfect too if you want southern food this is the place, cafeteria style service so you can try a bit of everything, and faster then a fast food restaurant. Real food, about as close to grandma's home cooking as you can get.

Stephs is a well kept secret for the best tasting southern soul food. Don't take my word for it, try it yourself!

I normally try to be fair when it comes to a person's interpretation of southern soul food and I must say that this place serves southern food but it is void of what we call "Soul". You are better off going to Atlanta, Ga. I guess this is the best they can get down here in these parts but I do not recommend this place for Soul Food.

'It is what it is, GOOD!' They might want to consider changing that tagline to 'SUPERB!' Everything was fantastic! First time here and we ordered food to go for dinner 🍽 tomorrow night. We loved all of the choices of meats and sides. They also had so many desserts! We'll be back!!

The owner was terribly rude and impatient to me and my three guests While simply asking for clarification about what is included in our meal started talking loudly with a very impatient tone. We were not treated with any respect or value and I expect more for a cost of over $20 per person.

I looooove this place, so anytime I get to visit I take the chance. Fried chicken is the best I have ever had. Service is great. They have small parking area. Place is clean. To order you go down the line think about it as a cafeteria type of concept.
