This remains the absolute best sushi restaurant in all of NM based on the ingredients list and artistry, coupled with excellent service. Most sushi restaurants serve sub-par ingredients and apparently, most people seem to not notice. (IE: other sushi restaurant in this town.) Customers should ask about the origins of this restaurant and its owner, because his connections are unbeatable. Santa Fe and ABQ sushi establishments can't hold a candle to this place. We're so glad to have moved back here to see that you're still around.

Great food, good service... Great views 5/17/2024- update I don't know what happened to this place since our last visit... Service from a long time server at this establishment was rude and dismissive. The server delivered our table's tempura appetizer to another table 15 minutes after we ordered, the replacement appetizer still has not arrived 30 minutes after we initially ordered. Well we are at 45 minutes and still no appetizer... Well 50 minutes later and they are out of vegetables for our appetizer... Oh wait... 57 minutes in... Entrees arrived and the appetizer... The food was good... The service was terrible with the exception of a new server who had been on the job for two days. Hopefully the new server's example will lead to the owners unburdening themselves of deadwood.

I ate outside on their shaded patio. What a beautiful view (see picture). This was my first visit to Sushi a La Hattori, even though I only live about an hour away. The food was excellent - I ordered the Hanzo sushi, which included miso soup, and I ordered tea, as well - and the service was cordial. The prices were rather high, though (expected, I guess, it's Taos), which would prohibit me from eating there more than once or twice a year, but other than that, I would recommend you go.

We visited this establishment about 15 minutes after it opened for dinner on a Wednesday. We waited about 10 minutes after we were seated for a server. When we first got there, there was only one server worker. She was joined by another server later, but a full restaurant, indoors and out, still only had a max of two servers. Service was slow and inattentive. We waited almost an hour for our order, and we're never offered refills on beverages. We had to ask for our check after waiting with empty plates at our table for well over 10 minutes. The food was acceptable. The tempura was excellent, but the sushi - in my opinion - could have been more fresh and was served luke-warm.

Didn't even get to eat because RUDE WAITRESS wasn't interested in accommodating my sick 78 year old mother out of the sun because our group was one person too big for the four top we sat at out of the sun. She insisted we moved to a table in the Sun and when we told her that we could not she was unaccommodating. I went to speak with the manager and I told him that she was driving us out of the restaurant basically because she would not accommodate us out of the sun (there was plenty of space) and he just shrugged his shoulders as if he didn't care at all so we left. I have no interest in giving my money to such an establishment.

Stopped in with my sister. We both had the bento box. Absolutely amazing! We were first brought a serving of miso soup. Then came the prize! The tempura shrimp and vegetables that were perfectly done. The shrimp were sweet and flavorful. Very surprised at the amount and variety of the vegetables. Eggplant, sweet potato, broccoli, and asparagus. Oh yes, there was also a generous piece of tempura salmon, brown rice, and 4 pieces of a California roll, along with a delicious salad. All for under $12. Very high quality, and excellent service.😎👌

ACTUALLY NO STARS for this visit! OMG, What a mess. The Waitress got our order incorrect and when we pointed it out, she flipped out and even the sushi cook came out and confronted us. They made racial remarks in spanish not know that we understood and speak it as well. Poorly managed, short staffed, staff stressed out, makes for a people on edge. Part of our party were completely done eating before the other half got part of their sushi order and by the time they got the last part of their sushi order we were all done eating and ready to leave.

This is the first time I've left a negative review on Google. I hate to do it, but feel compelled to warn prospective diners about our experience. We arrived at about 5:15 p.m. and were sat within 15 minutes. After we placed our order, we didn't receive any food or water for about an hour. The food then trickled out over the course of the next 1.5 hours, with the quality exponentially decreasing over that time. The ramen that we initially received, for example, was quite good. The final item that we received, the soft shell roll, was inedible. Overall, what we'd hoped would be a quick sushi dinner turned into a protracted and expensive three-hour affair. As the icing on the cake, we got a nasty bout of food poisoning. The restaurant did appear abnormally busy, so they may function better under ordinary circumstances.

I sent soggy tempura don back to the kitchen and the chef came out of the kitchen to yell at me and said, “Tempura don is suppose to be soggy and you will pay for this!” This behavior on his behalf made the restaurant as a whole look bad. The most shocking part about this was that I did a quick Google search and tempura don is short for donburi which just means CRISPY tempura over rice in a bowl. Regardless of whether the dish was prepared properly today I believe if a customer sends a dish back to the kitchen it should just be accepted and no chef should come out to yell at a customer. The quality must have been severely lacking because surrounding tables were also saying that the food was not good today.

Menu may be Japanese, but the kitchen and owners don't appear to have the grace or finesse of Japanese cooks. Owner is very rude (on the order of Seinfeld's "soup Nazi"), actually telling a member of our party that she wouldn't be served. Sashimi was chunky and clunky, universally made with a fat slice of avocado diluting the filling. No unagi, no actual sushi. Everything had too much miso/salt. No color in dish, which was a uniform brown. Very unappetizing presentation.

The food here is great. That has never been an issue at Sushi a la Hattori. The service is often slow so it is best to go as soon as they open. Twice now I have gone to eat here with friends and some entrees come out right away and others come out 15 minutes later. Last week three of us went for lunch. One "hot" entree came out quickly along with one order of sushi. Then part of my sushi order came out. We all ate and then I sat waiting while my friends nearly finished their lunch. Finally the rest of my order came out. I was about to cancel it. Why not wait until all sushi is ready and then bring the entire order out? It is agrivating.

He takes a little time making them but his attention to detail and perfection makes the sushi well worth the wait. Plus we were there on a Friday night and the place was packed so he was very busy. Food is great! Waiting for your food can take awhile. My father and my girl and I went here last year and we waited two hours and 11 minutes for our food (I noted the wait time in my calendar). The food was great though. A few weeks ago, my family was in town again and all three of us went again. We waited an hour and twenty nine minutes this time. The wait was long, but the food was great. If you're going to be ordering sushi, be prepared to wait awhile. We each ordered a full order of sushi rolls and then ordered three two-piece sushis. It wasn't very busy either. We sat and watched everyone else who were seated after us order and get their food before we did. It was a little frustrating.

Not sure what is going on here. The servers are sweet but getting served and getting food in anything approximating a reasonable time period impossible. I appreciate the fact that we have such a restaurant in the high desert but last time I was there, I waited an hour for my meal and had to leave. So they made me wait even longer to give it to be as a To GO box which was not convenient as I was headed to a concert. Other tables just left when after 20 mins they could not even get drink orders in. Very sad.
