Visited for a late lunch/ early dinner and sat outside on the patio. Our server was efficient and friendly and we had our order taken in no time, our food came shortly after. Would highly recommend both the Lakeshore Drive roll, and the udon noodle soup.

I literally love this place. 100% my favorite neighborhood sushi restaurant. Gyoza are fire. Sweet jalapeño roll is a must. Tbh all of their maki rolls are good. The pot of sake is such a good time if you're looking to linger and get a nice buzz. Comes with a candle burning underneath to keep it warm. Cute, cozy ambiance and friendly staff.

The tuna was not great, maybe I’m spoiled but that wasn’t great

Lovely sushi restaurant with a lovely, relaxed atmosphere inside. Tables outside are dog-friendly and enclosed, though the traffic on Southport is not much fun to sit in. Friendly service. And the food is great: lots of vegetarian and vegan options available, including fried rice, bi bim bop, traditional maki (avocado, sweet potato tempura, cucumber, asparagus, oshinko, all decently priced), and my personal favorite, the Tofu Kat Su. Fine selection of sakes and cocktails.

Sushi Mura is one of the best Japanese restaurants in this area. I ordered a sashimi bento box. You can see from the photo how thick and long the sashimi is. And, it's as fresh as it can be. It's a little bit pricey, but it's worth it. The only problem is that it's very hard to find a parking space. All side streets are for local residents only.

We really enjoy Sushi Mura. We ordered the vegetable tempura, edamame and 4 rolls and was slightly more food than we needed for 3 adults and 2 kids, but the kids hardly ate their sushi. I think I ordered the Cubs, Bears, Bulls and the flamin' fin maki maki. Some had a bit of a kick, but it was just right! Update: The chicken teriyaki is perfect for the kids. I also enjoyed the "Don't Tell Mama" and the Carnival rolls.

I was sort of underwhelmed by the food and service here! The sushi was not very high quality. It’s good if you want a light meal or a drink outside in the summer, but otherwise I would skip it.

I'm stuck in rehab, my entire family is out of town chasing the eclipse, which is great. Only problem is there's nobody to spoil me for my upcoming birthday, so I took matters into my own hands! Sushi Mura came up in my area as having 5 stars and since I love unagi I ordered a JBD & a Dragon rolls. Delivery was lightning-fast! It came with the paper sack nicely stapled together. Both were delicious! I must try the rest of the menu real soon! 🍣🍣😋

Went here with a few friends. The service was incredible and very fast. One thing I didn’t like about the rainbow role was that one of the type of fishes on it was way too chewy and kind of sour. I’ve personally never had a fish like that. Other than that all other roles were perfect and the miso soup was great also. Salmon sashimi was also amazing. One of the best I’ve had

My fiance made dinner reservations for 6:45 PM on a Wednesday night; we arrived on time. This was our first time dining at this restaurant, and it will also be our last. Food was great--the volcano roll, sea bass, and chicken teriyaki bento box were delicious! But, service was horrendous. After being seated and looking over the menu, the first thing our server said to us was, "What would you like to order?"... no "Hi, how are you? Have you dined with us before?" Nothing of that sort, just straight to business. We placed our order and received our food/cocktails thereafter. The server came to our table to ask how everything was when we first got our food (this was nice!). However, we did not receive a visit from our server at any other point throughout our meal. My fiance wanted another cocktail as he finished his mid-meal. The server only then returned when our plates were cleared around 7:30 PM. She didn't ask if we wanted anything else, and instead, she had a device in hand ready to go so we could close out our tab. She turned the device to face my fiance so we could pay, but my fiance asked for a second cocktail instead first. We were both still working on our drinks while the server returned another time around 7:45 PM, this time to rudely say, "We have another reservation. Do you mind?" The reservation she was referring to was literally being seated at the table directly behind ours as she was ultimately asking us to leave. Completely caught off guard, we just pushed our UNFINISHED drinks to the side on our table and left. We've never had this happen while eating out. Since when is it a thing that you can't stay at least ONE HOUR from your reservation time to enjoy food and drinks. If you're looking for a place that will rush you, a paying customer, out the door before you've even finished your food or drinks, I can't recommend this place enough!

This resultant is so comforting to me and my friends - we absolutely love eating here. Everyone is so nice and friendly and the food is amazing! One of my favorite restaurants in Chicago! Thank you sushi Mura!

The food was excellent. The pieces of sushi was and think and tasty as anyplace i have been. I sampled almosy everyomes food and all was outstanding.

Absolutely terrible pick up experience. It took 35 minutes beyond the “pick up time” to get the food, even though the employee said it would “be right out” when we arrived on time. I was asked 3 separate times (twice by the same server) what “the name on the order” was and they acted surprised every time I mentioned I was already waiting. They eventually gave a woman who came in after us, also waiting for pick up, a free dessert as an apology, but did not acknowledge us. When I did receive the food, I asked why they had not also offered me an apology dessert, and they had the audacity to say they didn’t know I was waiting. Just terrible service sadly. A shame because the food here is great.

I visited 3 times before writing this review. I summary, food is good, service slow and timing terrible. For example, hot food arriving before drinks, apps and entree arriving at same time. On one occasion my entree was so late in arriving, everyone else had finished, table cleared and I was about to walk out... For a better all-around experience, there are better places nearby.

My brother lives across the street from this place and last time I visited him I got the chicken teriyaki and it was one of the best I’ve had and at a good price for the amount of food you get. I was so excited to get it again that we got take out the first night I was here. They increased the price by $5, which I would’ve been fine with considering how much food I got last time. Unfortunately we were incredibly disappointed. Not only did they increase the price by 25%, but the portion size is probably 75% smaller than it use to be and it wasn’t nearly as good. It was not even a full piece of chicken, they filled the container with cheap vegetables and the chicken wasn’t even in the sauce, you had to pour it on yourself. I never eat my full meal, but there was so little chicken that I ate it all and I was still hungry after. You can look back in the photos to see what the chicken teriyaki use to look like compared to now. Extremely disappointing that they changed this meal when it was so good, even if there are new owners. They made it much worse AND increased the price by $5.

This place was so good ! I would totally come back if it weren’t for the server . She kept rushing us the minute we got in . I sat down she came up and asked if we were ready to order even though we literally just sat down then maybe a minute or less she asked if we were ready to order and i had asked her to give us about 5-8 minutes but she kept coming back every minute . After we finally ordered and got our food she asked if we were done even though we just got our food . After her 3rd then checking on us asking if we were done when we still had half of the rolls left we ended up paying the bill right then and there cause we were upset with her . I love the food just not the service. Was our first time coming there and will go back but will make sure i don’t get that server again .

We ordered the edamame, miso soup, and two entrees through Door Dash pickup. The food was good, and still hot when we got it home. Glad they offer non sushi alternatives, too.

Came last night with my boyfriend and had the best time! Service was great, we had the server with the blue hair. She had recommendations on hand (I got the don’t tell mama) and she was super sweet and funny. Atmosphere was top notch, perfect stop on your way to the music box!

Great, decently priced sushi place within walking distance of the music box. Great for dinner and a show! We loved the tuna dragon roll and had a very sweet and attentive server (don’t remember her name, she had blue hair.) We came in with a bigger group and no reservation and she was happy to seat and serve us quickly and efficiently.

Food was ok but the staff was rude. I am vegetarian and asked for eel sauce. Asked the lady if it was vegetarian (most of the places make it without fish) her response was I don’t know and didn’t make an attempt of checking it with chef. She made face ask if she cares the least. Friday evening ruined. Won’t come back

My best friend and I came here this past Sunday after a relaxing day at Chicago Aire Baths, and we had the best time! We celebrated my friends belated birthday and came around 3:45pm, right when it was quiet and just before dinner. We were extremely relaxed after our spa day and just laughing nonstop while we waited for our food to come out. Their miso soup and seaweed salad - the two simplest appetizers - were heavenly! I love sushi restaurants that do simple so well, and they always deliver! They gave us a free bowl of edamame, and after our feast or sushi, sashimi, wine and the check, I mentioned to our server that we were celebrating a birthday, and she brought out free red bean ice cream for us to split! We felt so special in this family spot. Highly recommend - somehow it’s even better after they expanded.

Sushi Mura is a wonderful, great tasting, and all around fantastic sushi place. There is a variety for everyone, whether or not you like sushi. The staff there are incredibly kind and will remember your faces if you show up again. Recommend if you’re looking for good food!

pretty average food and poor service. my entree was supposed to come with rice and soup but didn't. when I asked my waitress, she was pretty incredulous, then brought me only the rice and I was too over it to ask for the soup.

Went here yesterday before a play. The hostess and server were really nice. The food was delicious and average price. Get the matcha cake!! Only critique is the Age Tofu appetizer wasn’t that great. I feel like it should’ve been seasoned a little and cut into smaller pieces before frying.

Visited Chicago for the first time with the boyfriend. He bragged about this gem he found during his last visit. This cozy restaurant did not disappoint - it had left the best impressions! Hospitable hosts, delicious dishes, beautiful presentation, wide selections. We weren’t super hungry but managed to finish every single dish we ordered simply because they were all delicious. I would recommend this place to everyone! This will definitely be my must-go-to place when I visit Chicago!

Was seated and never served or brought water for 15 minutes so my girlfriend and I finally got up and left. We had to ask for the menu QR code holder from the table sitting next to us. Empty two tops near us were sat around 10 mins after we sat and they were brought water and drink orders were taken. Tried to make eye contact and see if we could get back on track but to no avail. We had made a reservation for 630 and were really looking forward to dining there. Ended up at coalfire which wasn’t what we wanted but at least fed us.

Only ordered take out from here but every time it has been great. Even on busy nights they do a great job prepping and making sure everything is correct

This has become a new favorite for both dine in and delivery. We get the unagi, octopus salad, and a combination of nigiri. Always very fresh, a nice clean dining area, prompt and friendly service.

Wow! Some of the freshest sushi I’ve had in the area. I will definitely be a regular at this place. I placed an order online and showed up before the promised time as I was in the area. The kind lady at the front felt so bad that it wasn’t ready even though I was WAY early and told her it was no big deal for me to wait (as it was not her fault at all!). She even gave me some delicious gummy bears with my order. I still can’t get over how fresh the sushi was. It wasn’t too “fishy” like you get at some places and the texture was perfect. Can’t wait to come back!

We were so lucky to find this place after the Seated app sent us to the closed restaurant. Our craving for sushi prevailed after such disappointment, but it all happened for good, and we ended up at Sushi Mura. The restaurant has a lovely outdoor area. We ordered the octopus salad for an appetizer. The sliced octopus was slightly tough to chew, but the flavors were refreshing. We had some sashimi, and the fish was very fresh and succulent. I enjoyed the rolls with crispy salmon skin and slightly sweet shiitake mushroom. The wine list is simple, and a bottle of wine won't cost you an arm and a leg. Непогані каліфорнійські вина у асортименті, як і прохолодне японське пиво.

Went with a friend and had the yakitori, a lot of nigiri, and they got the tonkatsu. The nigiri was very good, both the rice and the fish were very tasty. I also liked that they didnt give waaay too much wasabi and the pickled ginger was also refreshing. I especially enjoyed the mackerel, red snapper, and white tuna. The yakitori was a little over sauced and tough, but still decent. Staff was really nice and I enjoyed the environment!

This is the first time since the remodeling that we have been at Sushi Mura. The place looks really nice!! The parking on the street was easy to find...even in busy Lakeview area. Thought it was cold outside, I really love the patio addition. The owners of the restaurant were welcoming from the very beginning. Their kindness and exquisite service is addictive as the entire staff especially our waiter was very attentive and frequently checked on us. The food, as before, is simply amazing. We got the Chicago-inspired maki rolls and the Chirashi Don, which were some of the best fresh fish we have ever eaten. In the midst of the pandemic, I’m very impressed with how they properly socially distanced the tables. Everyone on staff wore masks - when preparing the meals to the waiters attending the tables. The coolest feature is their addition of a contactless menu, where you can use the QR code on your smart phone to look up the menu. Love this place, and we will be sure to return again!

I have yet to find a sushi spot in Chicago that compares to my CA coast upbringing until now. Sushi Mura is my new favorite spot! I've ordered rolls with shrimp tempura, salmon, crab and spicy tuna and all were fresh and delicious. The only thing I appreciated more than the quality food is the kind service and cleanliness of the restaurant. Support local business :)

My family have been coming to Sushi Mura for years. The food is fantastic, and service is second to none. I would recommend them to anyone who enjoys great sushi in a relaxed, fun and non-pretentious setting.

Absolutely wonderful experience. The fish was fresh, the wait staff was attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere was clean, well-lit, and sleek. Also, ladies will appreciate the fact that they use Charmin in their bathrooms. Will stop here again when I'm in Chicago.

Sushi and food was good. Great atmosphere, thought rolls were a little higher priced than other places with the same quality but still enjoyed it.

A cherished favorite is back! After the long awaited reopening, my family and I had lunch at Sushi Mura, and the restaurant is as GREAT as I remembered! The interior is beautiful; the wait staff is attentive; and with the pandemic, the staff is constantly cleaning the menus, tables, and doors. Most importantly the food was wonderful. We had ordered the Mura deluxe boat B, a miso ramen, and the temptation roll. I highly recommend the temptation roll which has spicy crabmeat and mango. I’m delighted my favorite sushi restaurant is back!

First time visiting - we opted for Sushi Boat A, which had a lot of items I’m not used to. While some items were better than others, overall the experience was excellent. We will definitely be returning.

So glad it's back! Not one bad item on the menu. Usually order a few rolls, and always make sure the temptation roll and arizona cactus roll are on the order. Great atmosphere and fantastic Chef and staff. So happy it finally returned after its reconstruction. Looks beautiful too!

This was literally the best sushi experience we have had in years. We eat sushi all the time, but mura was excellent today. The service was extremely fast (service across Chicago has been slow during the pandemic). The negi Toro was really a hit with us. Also the Uni was really good. In addition we ordered the sashimi platter which was a really generous portion and good quality pieces. The wasabi tobiko with quail egg was excellent as well. All of the other sushi was on point. Additionally, we ordered the soft shell crab and agedashi tofu which were great as well. Definitely coming back.

The reason I chose this restaurant is to taste some dishes not offered by other restaurants, like age dashi tofu, and soft-shell crab. Ordered both, and three specialty rolls. The food was good, the service nice and friendly. I later learned that this place had re-opened after being down for a while. It's good to see the comeback of the neighborhood and the local establishments.

We are excited Sushi Mura reopened and has outdoor seating. Our family enjoyed the terrific food and great service.
