Didn't even order food. Went somewhere else to eat terrible attitude

Phenomenal! It was my first time in Maine. The bar should be a saint! Great whiskey pour! Great atmosphere! Incredible food! Maine rocks better than Cleveland!!! Drew Carry would agree.

Carly was very kind and the Butternut Squash and Black Bean Tacos were the best I’ve ever had.

The Verdue tacos are amazing. Highly suggest for any vegetarian, these things pack a ton of flavor

We waited 20 minutes for someone to come greet us after we were sat, but no one came out to take our order or even deliver waters. Pretty disappointing as we saw others who got sat after us get their drinks and orders taken before we were even greeted by the waiter. Eventually, we found the host and just asked to order food to go since no one had stopped by our table. The restaurant is cute and the food is good, but I personally couldn't recommend it.

What a great spot! The atmosphere is really cool and the svc and food is great! We were greeted and sat right away. Our waiter will was extremely personable and fast. I saw him handling a lot of tables and other tasks, quite impressive! We had drinks and appetizers and all was great, would certainly recommend based on our experience

Wow their Pozole Pork Stew and Arugula Salad were off the charts. Fresh guac, fabulous service, and even tried a taste of a new smoky mezcal that was yummy!🥃 Can’t wait to go back. Y’all are crushing it! Nice work!

This is a really great restaurant. We had chicken tacos. They were very flavorful and had a lot on chicken on them. I only gave 3 stars on the atmosphere because the volume of the music made it a little difficult to hear and talk.

My wife and I love Portland and we come multiple times per year. Visitors tend to gravitate to Old Port, but are missing out when they don't explore Congress St towards the West End just a few blocks away. Taco Escobarr is one of the places. On our trip this week, we went twice for lunch. That's how much we loved it. It's a typical Mexican cantina at first glance. Tables on a patio outside, set to the backdrop of the Congress St slope, a constant reminder of which way our instincts ask us to flow. But once inside, one feels anchored. You've probably ducked your head into a few of the odd shops around the area and whiffed some interesting scents. Some of them brought you back to the 80s, 90s, and beyond. You kinda liked it for the nostalgia, but you were also underwhelmed. You just wish something could deliver on your wants and needs. Then you walk into Taco Escobarr....WOW. This cantina means business. A dozen infused tequilas, every taco shell type you could want, and one (puffy) you didn't even know you needed. The Chorizo is unbeatable. The blood orange margarita "finishes you" in Mortal Kombat (in that it's excellent quality, not that it's heavy). We didn't even get into the burritos and more. But we loved it. The music set the scene. It's emo central. Boys Like Girls, Taking Back Sunday, My Chemical Romance, Say Anything, and more. The bartenders were singing along to the songs. You WANT to come here. And in case it wasn't obvious, the food and drinks were both awesome. There isn't a place in Old Port that could compete.

Ordered 6 tacos to go, total was $37? Didn't seem worth the drive and money. Food wasn't terrible but I wouldn't recommend . Placed was packed for a Monday night.

It’s a great spot and the food was amazing but I can’t stand when you go to pickup food and they leave things out that you paid for. Called right after twice and nobody answered the phone.

Hands down my favorite taco place. Huge variety of tacos that you can get in soft, puffy, or crispy shells. The fried avocado taco in a crispy shell is absolutely amazing! Fresh guac and salsa. Friendly staff. I always stop here when I'm in portland!

if I could give 0 stars I would. do not recommend!!! we were excited to try this place, unfortunately the wait staff and hostess made it a terrible experience. There were blatant bald faced lies from the staff.: They said the table we asked to sit at was reserved. the table had 5 chairs and we didn’t think much of it. minutes later a party of 3 came in and asked for a table for 3 and were sat there. Then when we ordered chips and guac we were told there was no guacamole left…people across the restaurant including our table got meals with avocado…so are you buying packaged guac or you simply lied?? Additionally we ordered a trio of salsa and chips and that didn’t make it to our table so halfway through the meal we asked them to cancel it. Then she brought it out. we said oh no we’re nearly done with our meal we canceled this. She literally rolled her eyes as she took it away even though we had canceled it before we ever got it because it was meant to come out before our meals and we were nearly done!! When we asked for our bill…the salsa was on it! Once we finally flagged our waitress (named Lucia? Lusia? she never introduced herself, I had to ask for her name) down again she said oh well I just wanted to get you the bill as soon as possible. ??? Get us the CORRECT bill as soon as possible. What does this even mean. Through the whole experience there was a palpable feeling of “we dont want you here” from the staff and the food was mediocre at best. This is what people are talking about when they say Portland might be liberal but they’re still racist. TERRIBLE experience

The blonde bartender with the beard was aggressive, extremely rude, and unnecessarily combative with me and another group that was at the bar. Not sure if he was having a bad day or what, but I don't think I've ever been treated so badly by a server or bartender. Tried to reconcile and ask if there was anything I did to bother him (all I did was order a couple margs and a beer, which immediately pissed him off for some reason...?), he doubled down and told me to leave. I was honestly speechless. I rarely write reviews and try to avoid writing negative, 1-star reviews because I usually consider them to be petty and counterproductive. But wow, this dude does NOT belong in service industry.

The food here is amazing! The bisteck filling is so flavorful, and the different flavored margaritas are excellent!!!

I ordered the crispy bisteck tacos and they were honestly the best tacos i’ve ever had. The shell was crispy and the meat was so juicy and flavorful. We also got the nachos which were delicious. We had Lucia as our server and she was absolutely amazing. I would highly recommend coming here.

I had three tacos, and they are easily the best I have had in the Northeast outside of Burlington VT. The churros were also top tier. The caramel was clearly made in house. All around a fantastic dining experience.

As a person born and raised in México I was excited to try some “real tacos.” The menu is grossly misleading and the toppings make me think the cooks have never ever tried the real thing. For example, the pastor they have is not even red and is made out of shredded meat. Chorizo is not chorizo, bisteck is shredded meet. (Probably the same that they give for pastor). There is no salsas other than cholula, Tabasco and other bottled salsas, this is not ok for a taco place. I give them credit for the best tortilla i have had in Maine. Margaritas are indeed good. Decoration is amazing The oilcloth that lines the chairs is cute, but it’s ripped and hurts your skin( I was wearing shorts). I consider the tacos a step above Taco Bell.

We had a good time here before my birthday trip. The food was good but the corn was drenched in sauce that deemed it almost inedible. The server offered us churros for dessert, we ordered them, and then never got them for us and just gave us the check. I’d probably come back here but not 100% sure.

Basically ignored by the waitstaff after we said we were not having drinks outside of water. Food was cold and flavorless. Nacho cheese was watered down... Took forever to get the food and the place was not even busy for a Tuesday night.

DO NOT COME HERE. Menu prices are incorrect. Our $12 burritos were actually $18 each and their excuse is that “the menu fluctuates.” After having to escalate to the manager because the server told me that was just how their menu worked, they said it was taken care of. But then they ran our card for the origubal overpriced amount. 2 burritos that should have been $12 each were $44 after the mystery $6 upcharge each and the numerous taxes and fees.

Fantastic vegetarian and vegan options! I opted for the verdue burrito bowl. Fresh ingredients, helpful staff--seating is a bit snug.

We had jade who was the only person besides the cooks working! I thought food was great ! But I think jade needs some serious pay upgrade since she was killing it alone while 5 other people stood round talking hole time while pretty busy! But still kept our glasses full and chips refilled and was very kind and kept upw oth all the tables full!!! Thanks jade we will be back !!!!

Worst service ever. The bartender we got tonight is maybe the worst I've come across in years. Involved in people's conversation at the bar and unable to serve. Total joke. Horrible spot. I won't go back ever. And the food tasted like wood. Bark off a tree. This place sucks. Portland is full of epic spots. Skip this one. You will be happy.

Very good food. Ordered enchiladas and Pozole. Both good but the latter was just warm. Margarita with Patron well made and large but pricey at $18. Good service. Fun atmosphere with good music.

Went Sinday as was in town for a show, sat outside. Server forgot the chips and salsa, forgot the beer. This place doesn't say anything then puts a service fee of 5% for kitchen staff. As that happens, it's the server that suffers. These fees have to stop and the business should raise the meal price. These separate fees pisses off people. So the tip for the server was less, then we reduced it 5% more. I hate a fee being added without upfront mentioning. I would have not ate there to make a point and we are no longer going there ever again. Al pastor was just cinnamon pork, wifed loved the salad with her crunchy tacos

they have great tacos with a lot of meat in them. not much other fixins in their soft tacos though. limes were a little dried out. margarita was good! always great service!

Had some awesome beef taco's with rice and beans. My wife also got an order of avocado fries with a dipping sauce. Everything was really good and service was super fast. The waitress was super nice and attentive to our every need. Not a ton of seating indoors but they also had some tables outside.

I was very not satisfied with the way the queso fundido tasted and barely took a bite and the waiter did not bother to help fix the issue even after I told him. Unprofessional.

Food is good, but the prices are ridiculous and misleading. The menu on their website says a burrito is 12 dollars, but they charged me $20 for it when I went to pick it up. Cannot recommend that kind of misleading pricing.

I loves the vibe and the host. Maybe it's just me but I believe the tortilla in a taco should be somewhat warm and not cold. The food in the taco was good but I wish the tortilla was warm and not cold. Other than that. It's a cool place

Musty worker down there thinks he’s entitled to a tip… imma give u a tip BRYCE!!! get another job!!! A tip isn’t a must no matter how big the bill is we don’t owe u nothing as long as we pay our amount for our food. Plus it took a long while for the food to come out and for u to say welcome to America to us is ironic considering ur the one acting foreign to the fact that people don’t really owe u nothing at the end of the day it’s all on u get another job!!!

The puffy taco shells were very dry. Definitely needed a sauce to go with. Other than that, the corn and margaritas were great :)

We were blown away with the prompt service and excellent food given that it was Cinco de Mayo. What really showed what an excellent establishment this is was despite being extremely busy, upon arrival there was a blind gentleman in front of us looking to enjoy the night and the host took notice and was beyond professional and displayed one of the most genuine examples of kindness. He helped the gentleman sit down while waiting for a seat and even guided him to his table when it was time to seat. Above and beyond that while hosting he was also running tables and delivering food. He was extremely polite and attentive and showed that he was doing it because of the love of his job and not just because he had to. We were also fortunate enough to leave the restaurant as the man who he helped in the beginning was leaving. The host took it up on himself to walk the gentleman outside and make sure he safely made it into his Uber all whilst it was pouring rain! It was very refreshing to see this kind of thing in a world so full of negativity! Kudos to this establishment and specifically the host! Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Absolutely loved my dinner experience at Taco Escobarr! The food was incredibly delicious, especially the Steak Fajitas which were packed with flavor. The atmosphere was perfect for a relaxing evening, and the friendly staff ensured we had a fantastic time. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a great meal and wonderful ambiance!

Stopped by here for a brief lunch on a brisk but sunny spring afternoon. They had great seating on the sidewalk and the server was a delight. Best guacamole I've had in the area. It seems like this is a great place also for drinks and dinner based on the atmosphere inside.

Fantastic Carne Asada burrito today at Taco Escobar in Portland.

Service was fine but you need to specify on the up charge. Was asked to pay a 40 dollar up charge on 6 carne asada soft tacos. 106 total for 12 tacos with rice. Staff did work with us on adjusting price.

I'm not quite sure how this place has so many positive reviews. I'm giving 2 stars only because my girlfriend said her food "wasn't terrible". Mine was. The service was awful, most likely due to the fact that we weren't drinking alcohol. My burrito was a sloppy, flavorless piece of trash that resembled tortilla soup more than a burrito. I wouldn't come back here if someone paid me

Crisp fish tacos were the best that I've ever had. Just the right portion. Prices were lower than expected. When we got there they said there was a 25 minute wait but we got a text 5 minutes later telling us our table was ready. Food was out less than 10 minutes after ordering. We went back after the show at 1230am and had churros, which were delicious! I highly recommend Taco Escobarr and wish they were located in Northern Maine.

We went on a busy Saturday afternoon and we're able to put our name in for a table and continue shopping while we waited for a text. Food was great! Crispy homemade taco shells were so good. Vegetarian burrito was very flavorful too. Next time I'll have a margarita with the house flavor infused tequila.

This is about trip number 20 and every every single time we go it's better than the time before :-) Absolutely delicious Mexican food (After 32 years in LA, we never tasted anything half as good), Yummy margaritas (Although the ice content is high and the tequila Not so much), The taste is off the charts! Service is super friendly, food is really, REALLY good, And everything from the bar is fab! 🍹 ♥️ LOVE THIS PLACE And we're so happy that it's in the neighborhood :-)

My friend and ate there around midnight on 4/13/2034. The service was great and my crispy shell chicken taco was the best I’ve ever eaten.

Packed on a Tuesday evening during eclipse extended weekend 2024. Got a ton of food in about 5 minutes. Best fish (pescado) Taco I've ever had by a country mile. Best churro I've ever had too. Steak tacos great. Good drinks. Enchanting atmosphere. Great service.

Never got seated but the longer we waited the less I wanted to eat here. I got a dive bar that serves tacos vibe. Ended up leaving after we were skipped over twice to be seated. Mainly because we were getting pretty hungry. The guy seating people seemed really offended that we said no thanks and offered us (and our 10year old child) seats at the bar.lol. Thanks no thanks.

Hello, Yesterday I went to tacos escóbarr and I ordered three orders of tacos with roasted meat and two coca-colas and they charged me 114 dollars not even in the most expensive restaurants this had happened to me! I think they are abusing the prices on this site! I don’t recommend them.👎👎👎..

Tacking on a 5% “service fee” = no bueno. The food was very good but left a bad taste in my mouth.

Taco Escobarr is a great place to get decent Mexican food in a really cool atmosphere. They are usually super busy, weekends usually has a 30 minute wait.

Great food and atmosphere! I loved the puffy tacos. I ordered the fried avocado and roasted cauliflower (a special that day)— the flavors were divine. The salsa and chips were also really tasty!

Puffy Tacos are my new favorite. Had the al pastor and the shrimp. Both were flavorful and wonderful. Mexican corn was also a winner! Tons of flavor and coated generously. Will return to try the other items as well as their infused margaritas. Met the Executive Chef(Rudolpho) while he was waiting for his take-out( an excellent sign of great food).

We came from Canada to take in a comedy show in Portland and we grabbed a bite at this taco bar. Amazing food, fantastic drinks (the strawberry jalapeño and cucumber guava margaritas are life) and a staff who are attentive and entertaining. I can see this being the go-to hotspot in Portland. If you’re in Portland, Maine for ANY reason, you owe it to yourself to come here. The soft tacos are phenomenal and the arugula salad with chicken is everything. Add the fact that the staff are extremely friendly to the great food and delicious margaritas and this place is a no-brainer!

Went for the first time tonight and absolutely can’t wait to go back! It’s about 45 minutes from me but I will make the trek just to eat here again. First, I got the blood orange margarita and my husband got the house margarita and we both agreed they were the best we’ve ever had. We were headed to a show following dinner, so I didn’t want something that would leave me with leftovers. I ordered the chips and guac and added shrimp. Simply delectable! The amount of shrimp was VERY generous for a $3 add on, and they were plump and juicy and grilled to perfection. And the bowl of guac was massive, not just a small cup on the side. Service was great, the place was packed and we felt well taken care of the entire time. Can’t wait to return!

3.5 stars. Pretty good tacos, probably the most authentic in Maine. But $35 for 4 TINY tacos and a street corn (which was not good and some weird variation of it) is simply insane. I swear the website had different pricing so was completely shocked when I got the check (and this is takeout!). Just not worth it

Awful service they don’t answer the phone on tuesday’s. I ate there and the food was great but i left my card and when i called to get my card back they wouldn’t answer. I don’t know if they unplug their phone on tuesday’s but i expect more from taco escobarr.

Good food! I'm never a fan of having to pay for the chips and salsa at the table, but both were delicious. The enchiladas were equally delightful, but the roja sauce would be a pass for me. It had a little bit of a red wine taste to it, which isn't my scene, but I can understand how someone else might like it? Casual atmosphere.

Absolutely INCREDIBLE food-- I got the crispy tacos with fried avocado filling on two separate occasions in one night because I couldn't leave Portland without more. Despite the small space, wait times have never been too bad and food comes out quickly. I love you Taco Escobarr
