This particular location is either fantastic or absolute garbage, and ne’er the twain shall meet. I know not the cause, but it is defined by chance, whim, or impulse. As with Forrest Gump’s insistence, so is the case with Brookings Taco John’s; “you never know what you’re gonna get.”

The best, cleanest TJ’s in the country . Deserves nothing less than 5 stars. Just wish they still had apple grandes.

This restaurant was filthy. Only half of the soda fountains had anything on them. No napkins were available. Both paper towel and toilet paper dispensers were empty and broken. I have never seen a restaurant this dirty and greasy. Floors, tables and chairs were disgusting. Outside steps were even greasy and slippery. I am sure if this place was inspected it would be shut down immediately.

Except for the limited items and less species, rests were pretty good.

we came with money to buy our food and they didn’t serve us

We got 2 taco pizzas, they were super good but they forgot the chips! Got one at another place and found out chips were supposed to be on there, way better with the chips! These are really good pizzas 🍕😋

Yum! I had to stop and eat since all of the Taco John’s locations closed in Fargo, ND. The potatoe oles are so yummy.

The food is great and normally the people serving are super nice but today we had a girl and she was rude then the guy who gave us our food was really rude didn't say anything at all but his body language was rude. We go there a lot and normally get a really nice guy but today sucked.

I’m glad they’ve had enough staff now to be open inside on Sundays, it was a big deterrent during peak COVID to know only the packed drive thru was available. (I’ve not seen it that busy myself since) Speed I think is good, with just recently a quiet day yielding a Super Taco combo within 3 minutes. The interior is functional, never seen it packed full, and sometimes a bit unkempt. (but if I’m going to choose between minding an occasional stray lettuce or the mentioned drive thru, I’ll take care of myself) (their drive thru isn’t bad though, I just don’t want to eat in my car) Food quality is I guess what you’d get from other Taco John’s, being average Mexican-USA’n food. (but those potato oles can disappear like popcorn, very enjoyable) I don’t recommend keeping their food very long to eat later though, because besides the potato oles their deliciousness fades fast. Overall, I miss the red color scheme, but still like eating here on occasion. Just please let me come inside.

The workers are so kind and considerate, and even when I visited them very very late they had patience with me. Their potato oles are also unparalleled! 10/10 would recommend

Taco John's is a staple of the Dakotas and Wyoming. Potato-oles are the best. Tacos are better than the Bell, mainly because the meat has more flavor and the portion is more.

Depends on the day. Sometimes fast, clean, and great service. Other days, not so much.

In and out. Lunch was good. Just what we wanted.

Food was excellent, no mistakes, made fresh & good portions. We did dine in on a Sunday afternoon, so we came during the after church/post-hangover-after-college-football-game crowd. We had a 30 min wait from the time we placed our order to the time our food was ready. We are patient people & understood the wait due to the circumstances (drive thru was long & inside was packed). Overall, it was a good experience. We came for Taco John's & left full, so we were happy!

Needs some love on the up keep. floors are greasy and sticky. Food is fine would be cool if they could bring back bacon ranch.

Terrible went through drive through ask for a taco salad light lettuce they gave me 3/4 a bowl of lettuce no meat asked for extra ranch got 1 ranch gentleman at the window rushed us through and was very rude

You’re the run of the mill fast food place, but I have to give you credit for you breakfast burritos, your potato side, and your early opening. It has saved my life many times. Praise.

There was no soap in the bathroom and multiple fountain drinks did not work. The seating was also not very comfortable. The food was pretty good as well as the service.

These guys are great to work with. Food is fast, fresh and hot. My favorite is always the potato oles.

Very rude teller, stood in line forever and had to tell her I wanted to place an order. Ordered a steak quesadia and got chicken. NOT impressed with the crew that was working, very rude and horsing around.

Food was expensive for old hard rice, salty tots, old hard tortilla, and old churros. Never again!

Better than Taco Bell, and I really love the Mexican donut bites.

Very expensive for two meals, exterior was not inviting at all, drive thru was narrow in the corner and visually unappealing. My order was taken wrong 3 times, the employee was hard to hear at the speaker system. At the first window an employee opened the window and told to "wait" that they weren't ready for me yet (at 5:45 pm). Therewas 3 vehicles in front of me and 6 behind me and I was blocked in by buildings on either side so I had no choice but to wait. Approximately 7 minutes later the employee slid open the window gave me the total of $48.54 on a cold, unapologetic tone and promptly retrieved my cash and shut the window. After waiting for about 2 minutes the window slid open again and my change was thrust at me and the employee duct back inside and forced the window shut. The vehicles took their turns at receiving their orders over the next 12 minutes. When it was my turn I pulled up parallel with the window and waited for about 30 seconds. Then the window slid open, I was handed my drink order and told to wait for the food. Approximately 2 minutes more go by and the window slid open and massively over stuffed bag was shoved towards me. It partially ripped when the transfer was being made. I was so over this experience I quickly retrieved my purchase set it in my passenger seat and pulled up out of the way so the person behind me could hopefully have a better experience. When I checked my order it was still wrong- no taco salad, no salsas, no extra cheese cup and every bit of food was COLD however, it had been 28 minutes from the time I made my original order to this point and I was so frustrated with the whole situation and knowing my husband and myself do not like to microwave mexican food and I did not have the time or patience to deal with this establishment again, that I just called my son told him what I had and that he could have it all for free if he wanted it. LONG STORY SHORT: I WENT TO TACO BELL AND GOT WHAT I WANTED AND IT WAS WARM WITH SAUCE AND EXTRA CHEESE. THANKS TB!

It was not good waited too long for our food

Took forever to get our order. Pink haired worker was so stressed and yelling at everyone. The oles were so salty that they were inedible.

Ordering through DoorDash is NOT recommended. The level of Service at this establishment is abhorrent. When I called the store, as directed, they refused to provide any remedy to their failure. The "shift leader", Kayla, could only say, "I don't know how to do that".....and she's a shift leader????? This place is clearly & severely lacking real management. It's a joke.

I've been coming to this Taco John's for months now, and it's almost always been great, but this time there was so much salt on the ones it almost made it impossible to eat. Truly disappointed 😞

First time eating at a Taco John's but won't be the last. Very tasty food, great selection, and great variety. The service was excellent. I'm looking forward to heading back when I'm in town.

I Waited for at least 10 minutes at the drive through window ( as the first person in line). After I left, I found out part of order was missing. I called to see if that part of the order could be refunded on my card, but I was repeatedly told no. Instead, they asked if I could come back for a small meal coupon. Umm, no! It's fast food because I had a time limit!

It was ok. For upset my stomach. People were not so friendly. Just to our order and walked away. No friendly greeting or anything. Seemed kinda cool towards us.

Fresh & Tasty! I must say, Taco John's is a favorite go to place of mine, for any occasion! Great menu selections and the staff members are totally awesome! Keep up the great work Taco John's! Thank you!

This taco John's has an amazing location and a place to sit outside, the service was quick and nice and the food warm and fresh! All our food came as asked! AND the oles were not over seasoned!

It's my birthday today, I said that in the drive through and they wrote happy birthday on my bag and gave me free donuts and I didnt even ask for any free food. Kinda made my day:)

Food is cheap, quick, and tasty. Employees are friendly and attentive. Please pay them more. If you do, your turnover rate might improve.

I haven't been to a Taco Johns in a few years. This time I tried the super burrito and was not impressed at all. It was basically a larger tortilla woth regular taco filling. Besides the lack of flavor, the issue with this was that the ingredients were so cold that the beef in the burrito was unable to heat them up. It resulted in a cold burrito woth a few bites of warm meat. The oles were good though! The customer service was also good.

I'm not the biggest fan of tacos that aren't made by me because of previous incidents with other fast food restaurants. However, Taco Johns is truly amazing. I've only ever eaten Taco Bell and it doesn't even compete with Taco Johns. The service is incredible here, and the staff are super friendly and really make you feel comfortable when ordering and give recommendations. You even get potato Olés which are absolutely amazing.

The employees here are very hard working and work fast under pressure while still remaining polite and friendly

they have messed up my burrito enough times by putting sour cream and tomato in the meat and burrito when i told they no tomato and no sour cream i think the person that puts it together is either brain dead or just plain stupid don't know which.

The food is good and very reasonable prices. But the service is not the greatest. Just make sure your order is correct before you leave!!!

Delicious food, terrific service, and friendly staffing. Prices are same as any Taco John's in the midwest. Seating is all plastic and hard on the buns, but restaurant was clean and they have local papers to browse.

Just experienced my first breakfast at Taco Johns Brookings. When i stated i didnt know what to get and i hadnt had it before, the employee responded "well you are in for a treat" and in a very freindly manner helped me pick what to get, AND he was right, It was quite a treat! 😉

I can't explain enough on the customer service, the people that work here makes you feel like this isn't just a job. They welcome you, they make my Potato just the way I like them, just a little seasoning! I just wish that I could order a Sierra Chicken Sandwiches!!!
