Really great food and Margaritas (they do a spicy one which is fantastic). There is a great 'sauce station' where you can select different salsas, I love the pineapple one. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and I love the vibe in the restaurant.

An authentic slice of Mexico in Maine! I was thoroughly impressed by how great this taqueria is. Their tacos and enchiladas were a true highlight, as was the incredible salsa bar with a fresh variety of pineapple, mango, habanero, and fresca salsas. There were also a great variety of vegetarian options that offered squash, fried cojita, beans, avocado as filling alternatives. We also tried the strawberry tres leches which had a nice flavor, but was a little more dense than others I’ve tried. Would definitely recommend the haddock tacos!! I’d come back just for those. They also have a full bar and a beautiful indoor and outdoor seating space.

Ordered take out which was extremely easy, food was incredible, and salsa bar is a nice touch! 10/10

Food is excellent. Restaurant is confusing to navigate. Went inside to request a table outside. Got menus and went outside to decide what we wanted. Went inside to order. Got one of those buzzer/beeper things for when the food was ready, got some plastic cups for the salsa bar. Was told to go over to the bar to get drinks. Waited for bartender to finish talking with another customer, got drinks just as the buzzer for food went off. Left drinks at the bar, unattended, to pick up food and brought the food outside. Went back inside to get drinks and brought those outside. Went back inside to get salsas and brought those outside. Went back inside to get utensils and napkins and brought those outside. It's two sets of doors to get inside and outside. I tipped 20% when I placed my order before realizing I'd need to do 90% of the legwork to get my food... I hope all of the tip money goes to the kitchen staff because they fully deserve it. Tacos were excellent and the variety of options are great and I love that chips are included. There must be a more streamlined way to get food, drinks, salsa, utensils... Even a tray would make it easier and require less trips inside and out. If I come again, it'll be for takeout.

First time at Taco Trio. Nice ambiance. The music was awesomely authentic! Being from TX we of course know Mexican cuisine. Good spicy margaritas. We were surprised to find goat barbacoa tacos which my husband enjoyed.

Local takeout is excellent food for Renaissance neighborhood. Drinks and happy hour specials will make you delighted. Great village atmosphere. Had small problem with order to go but Jacob solved problem with excellent customer service and quick and quiet action. Give this local favorite a try.

Nice place, I would recommend it. Good food nice bar. Only con is, it's awkward lining up to place order when it's busy, the line is just inside the entrance.

Happy hour menu margaritas good but there was no pork on my tortilla only a couple blobs of fat. Another diner with me suffered the same experience. Do not recommend

Great food, great drinks and super knowledgeable/ talented bar staff

I got tacos back at their old stores years ago when it was a small restaurant. Now it looks like a true restaurant, looks good from outside and inside. I got the pastor burrito for $16 and the strawberry drink for $4.35. The burrito was pretty good at first. A decent amount of meat, rice and beans. The burrito was pretty standard with good ingredients but the flavor isn’t anything special. Towards the end it was just rice and beans and I didn’t finish the rest. The strawberry drink was okay, tasted very diluted, more like a strawberry flavor water. Chips were good and I like how you can choose from a number of sauce or salsa from their bar just like their old place. But for the price of $16, the burritos was very underwhelming compared to other places for $12. 7/10

Authentic Mexican food. I couldn't say enough good things about this place. Being from Arizona, this place takes me back home to my roots of Hispanic food and culture.

Always fast, always consistent, always absolutely delicious. I've only gotten takeout here, but I've been getting their food multiple times a month for almost a year and never once had a complaint. I have dietary restrictions that mean I have to make some special requests for very plain tacos and they have always followed through.

Underrated taco joint in Knightville. Staff is awesome, layout is spacious. Salsas are great and they accommodate GF options!

What happened to this place? The food used to be so good. I got a taco here that was overflowing and so saturated I had to eat it with a fork and knife. The fish was so fishy. Every time I’ve had a drink here the beers taste soapy. The service was okay but the staff seemed sad. I used to love this place. Now it’s so expensive and the food is terrible? It’s 16 dollars for a quesadilla with zucchini and cheese. How does that add up? I’ve given these guys the benefit of the doubt a few times now. Today was the last time I’ll come here.

Incredibly crafted tacos with totally unique flavors. A salsa bar with about a dozen options that let you customize your tacos and chips. I'd say sit at the bar for a better experience.

Only went here for a few drinks, late afternoonon Friday, but the menu looked good, there was a condiment bar, and they were training bartenders. I need to go back and try the food!

Great spot. And a favorite to go to. Food and drinks is always reliable. This is a counter order spot so service is minimal. One odd thing is you cant buy margaritas and beer at the counter you order food from and have to go to the bar. So unless you sit at the bar you order twice and have to work around the people eating/sitting at the bar. This could be streamlines but its a small issue.

This place rules. The tacos are so flavorful and the hot salsas they make are exceptional. Ignore these negative reviews. In the pic I got 2 pastor and one carne asada and they all slapped.

Some pretty good Mexican food for the Maine, but unfortunately the output is pretty inconsistent. Sometimes burritos are small, sometimes they're mostly rice, sometimes chips seem store bought, etc. Not many other options around here tho so keep coming back :) On good days it's good.

Updating a prior review here: we recently got a chance to visit Taco Trio's new location and love it! Great cozy inside space and the food is as good as ever. We'll be back.

Dined in with my mom. Food was fantastic, there was a slight mix up while ordering and we ended up with 2 quesadillas accidently but Asiel(sp?) Was extremely gracious and immediately refunded for the one quesadilla and allowed us to keep the extra... Excellent customer service and food. Highly recommend!! 👏 👏 👏

My wife had the carne asada, rice, and beans. I had chicken enchiladas. Unfortunately, after my wife's first bite, she found a rather long hair in her food. She didn't immediately complain, but her appetite was ruined. My meal was "ok". Not bad, but not anything to write home to mom about. The atmosphere, in my opinion, was "rural." Park bench-like tables, with a rather nice-looking bar. I don't drink, so I can't comment on that aspect of the restaurant. After we finished eating, my wife pulled the greeter to the side and told her about the hair "situation." Her response was a, "That's never happened before." We didn't expect anything, so no harm done. All -in-all, an average experience, but not bad.

Had the carne asada burrito and chicken quesadilla. Taste wise they were average. Service staff not all that interested in the customer. Not rushing to go back. Interior was pleasant.

I slipped it into my purse and went to the ladies room. I came back out and think maybe I had the pager back in my hand, but I must have put it on the counter or something, because as I saw someone else’s buzzing, I started looking for mine and could not find it. I checked all of my pockets and two young employees in the kitchen were looking at me and giggling repeatedly as I looked for the missing pager. I said to the woman who took my order, who was standing nearby - I must have put it on the counter, because I can’t find it? She did not respond. The two employees kept looking at me and giggling. A man called my name and handed me my bag of food, and I walked away, puzzled by the exchange. I went back to the yoga studio and opened my lunch, and there on top of my food was the pager. I was completely dumbfounded by this prank. Had I put the pager on the counter? Had someone swiped it from my open purse pocket? I am rattled by this odd exchange and won’t be returning to this establishment after the way I was treated. Very disappointed.

For a taco place I expected more, more flavor, better service etc. this is essentially a fast food place where you do all the work. Margaritas were 1-star at best. Pricey place for mediocre food, drinks and service.

Great service from the bar tender(s)

When they were at their prior location. The food and salsa bar was totally awesome! Now? Ive been to the new location several times. And my friends have too - all of us agree - everything has went down hill terrible terrible! As if the new space lets them think they are so great that they just dole out anything now - and only care about making money from the bar and drinks! My friends are exstreemly unhappy! They say they will never go back! Not recommended now! You USED to be awesome and the kitsh chic decor you used to have was honest and cool! Reform your selves!

The food is great and came out fast, Cheers to the team on the kitchen! The new place very big, welcoming. Walls and tables are well organized, the food is half self service, you have to go get your utensils, water and sauces, which is nice. There wasn’t much contact with customers from the servers, which I felt kind of cold but I guess is all about preferences, the bar area is big and overall is a great place if you try to get a taste of Mexican food.

Four burritos for takeout… $86.40!!!! This is absolutely insane. Not to mention we get 2 small bags of chips to share, and I was inconveniencing them to pick salsa. This price is absurd. I love supporting local, but this price gouging has gone too far

Margaritas are pint-sized! So good. We had a good mixture of tacos between our foursome. All of them were delicious. Guac was good. Salsa bar had a variety of salsas. Drink service at the bar. Everything else is a window/buzzer/self-serve situation.

We sat at the bar and had a few house margaritas, which were very good. We shared an order of chips and salsa. Nothing 'complimentary' about these -- for an average tray of chips and a small cup of salsa, it was around $10 with tax and tip. The good thing was, the cup could be refilled at the salsa station. The bartender was nice, but the order counter employees could be a little friendlier.

Great Mexican food with lots of varies options

Best dips or sauces for the tacos. They have like a sauce or salasa bar which is amazing. They have mango salsa jalepeno everything tastes so fresh and spicy. The hottest salsa is extremely spicy try at your own risk but it was soo soo good! The vegetarian tacos was great very fresh vegetables.

The food here is always great, however the service here is always terrible. It’s really a bummer because we always keep coming back to try this place hoping things will be different and consistently get let down. Today we decided to walk in and order food to go. We ordered 4 tacos. We were given a bu and waited 45 minutes. We finally checked in with the cashier and were told that our order had never gotten placed. Either the woman who took our order entered it incorrectly or the kitchen forgot about it. They checked and found our bag of food waiting on the counter- but our name was never called and the buzzer never went off. Our food was stone cold. This was the last straw for us after repeated horrible experiences similar to this. Skip this spot. There are far better (and cheaper!) places to get tacos in Portland that don’t make you wait 45 minutes for cold, soggy tacos. Yuck.

Love the food here and come religiously but was definitely disappointed with our last trip. First the entire restaurant smelled like cat urine, secondly 5 tortilla chips is not a “side”, and most importantly it was thrown in our face that normally extra cheese is extra money even though we offered to pay the extra because we already knew it would cost more. **update, we were the second customers in the place and they didn’t even put my order in.

I’m from Chicago so I know tacos ! and once I took a bit of the taco the meat was sooooo good! Juicy and limóny! The salsas were a hit!!!! And the hibiscus drink was fresh!

I wouldn’t recommend for vegans. The taco with plain spinach, mushrooms, and onions was the same price as my friend’s taco with a big chunk of fried fish, a 1/4 of an avocado, cabbage, and aioli. Mine didn’t have any sauce or spices on it, so it was a disappointing thing to have bought from a restaurant. I could have made it myself for very cheap. Better with salsa and the guac I bought on the side, but all-in-all, I paid almost $15 before tip for 1 vegetable taco, 2oz of guacamole, and a small amount of chips (maybe they forgot to give me the bigger portion of chips I bought). Everything was cooked well, but I was extremely aware that my little pile of steamed veggies in a corn tortilla were subsidizing the sexy meat options. I appreciate the clear labeling of the vegan options, but I wish they were yummier.

Chorizo burrito was overfilled with what tasted like Italian marinara sauce mixed with rice. $3 upgrade guac and sour cream made it inedible. Burrito, three tacos, and a drink - $47 bucks. Place was way better when they were down the street and had a salsa bar.

We had a really good meal. traditional Mexican food with a toppings bar that has a wide range of flavors and heat.

Got a trio of tacos: chipotle pescado, pollo mole, and carne asada..all really good. The fish one was the best. Also their salsa station is pretty fun.. and the mango salsa reallyyy good.

The food was not bad here. As someone from the Mexican border, it was just OK. But the prices were outstanding - not in a good way. $10.75 for about 1/4 cup of very bland pico de gallo and about 2 cups of chips. The "salsa bar" gave out thimbles full of salsas (all tasted good) rationed according to how many tacos or other foods you got. No table service. You must bus your own plates. Really a very stingy atmosphere. We won't be returning.

Moving from Texas has made us pretty harsh judges on tacos. We know Maine isn't your go-to area for Mexican or TexMex food, however we've been pleasantly surprised by Taco Trio. It has the most expansive taco selection in the Portland area, excellent salsas, and some of the best margaritas and mezcal-based drinks we've found in the area. Standouts are the vegetarian, chicken and fish tacos. (Carnitas and pastor are lower down on the list for me.) Also, they have some of the better chips and tortillas in the area!

Sublime burrito. The mushroom jalapeno burrito was perfection.

This was my first experience here. They came highly recommended and the the food did not disappoint. I had the Chicken molle burrito and it was amazing! I have not had Molle for a long time but even thought the prices are a bit high for Mexican food the over all flavor and food quality made it worth the extra expense.

Great burritos and staff, they are extremely popular so wait times may be long and prices may have gone up however I will continue to visit every time I swing by Knightville.

I highly recommend eating here. Most of the food is very good and I always feel like it is worth the money. Delicious and decent portion sized also sweeten the deal. I Would tell most of my friends to go here as well.

Moved to 60 Ocean, glad they had a sign! Decor was awesome! Frida portrait is lovely. Staff was nice, place was clean. To have a bit of home up north was needed. Real chips and pico/salsa. Horchata was good (needed a bit of a stir). Plantains were great, not to sweet and a bit of savory. Carnitas is always my top choice, and they had it! Will def be back.

Tacos are outstanding. Much larger than I expected, mounded with meat and perfectly seasoned deliciousness. They are fast, and it's a lovely space. The tables are pretty close together, could be spaced out a little better so you aren't in your neighbor's lap, but that's a picky gripe. It seemed a little on the pricier side for tacos until you see how much you get. Good value for money. Also, best tamale I've ever had. And I really dig the salsa bar, that's brilliant 👏

Love the burritos here BUT for 15$ y’all better give me all the salsa this city has to offer. Seriously though, to limit customers to two salsas and charge them for any additional is absolutely absurd, ESPECIALLY for a 15$ veggie burrito. It’s truly mind boggling they scam customers like that. Taco trios profit margins must be astronomical lol. Oh and they charge for one can of seltzer what it cost at the store to buy a 12pack of them.

To have their pescado burrito and a house margarita is to experience true joy.

Still the best Mexican food for miles

Surprisingly good taco shop right across the bridge from Portland. They had a taco special and about a dozen varieties of salsa when I stopped by. Not much of a crowd (it was mid-afternoon on a weekday) and parking was fine, but might be a problem when it's busy. Will go again!

Taco Trio has the best home made Mexican food in Southern Maine. Their new restaurant greatly enhanced the atmosphere and dining in experience.

Love the new restaurant. Located just two blocks from the original. Warm and quiet atmosphere (I went at night). Friendly staff. Food is very fresh and delicious although a bit pricey. Highly recommend if looking for authentic cuisine.

Excellent taco joint! Tacos are a 10, and burritos are a 10 IF you order deluxe (+sour cream & guacamole)... Dry otherwise. I am excited for their new space on C St to open up! Update summer 2022: love their new space, especially the bar. Great beers on tap, bartenders are so friendly! We come here once a week. Only bummer is that a burrito with guac and sour cream is $18-19. That's a bit ridiculous.

Moderate speed, good food. Spent $36 on two dinners, not including drinks. Food was delicious but don’t recommend as leftovers as my burrito didn’t keep well. Ambiance is ok and acoustics are terrible. The tables are way too close together, I could practically touch the people sitting next to me. Staff was nothing special, not great but not horrible. Overall, a good (but pricey) place if you’re looking for something quick.

Food was ok but nothing to write home about. The prices are pretty high for what you get and my food was on the bland side. Probably ok if you're already in the area but I would not recommend going out of your way to eat here.

The front of the house service was good, very pleasant. But after I order a burrito for $20 I would hope it tasted like something. It was surprisingly bland. No spices, salt, very dry, even after the up charge for sour cream. Also my horchata was luke warm out of the cooler

Excellent place for street tacos. The knightville area in South Portland has really come into its own. The food options are growing nicely and this is one of the best. The building is gorgeous and has some nice outdoor seating. Great place to eat!

We had lunch with Frida, how does it get better? The burritos were made with the farm fresh ingredients. I had the Pollo con mole and queso. It was perfection!

Sauces were yummy but thats about it. I ended up getting a vegetarian option - As to be expected since I am one. I ordered the Espinaca y Champiniones, it did not live up to expectations. I bit into it and tasted the absolute worst tasting cheese and mushrooms in my life. It made me sick to my stomach. It was very obviously pre-cooked and just microwaved. My quesadilla was soggy and mushy, and everything was low quality in general. I wish I went home and made my own. Greasy and mushy!! Not to standards.
