While the service was excellent, the food was less than expected. For a sushi restaurant, the menu lacked variety and the sushi lacked flare. We did love the edamame though…fresh and chunky beans.

I ordered take out California rolls. Which was absolutely delicious. Some of the best wasbi I ever had. The decor and service was impeccable. I would definitely recommend this place for some authentic Japanese cuisine.

Really fresh and incredibly tasty sushi. This was our second time stopping in and service from Danielle was excellent, the food was spot on (scallops, spicy tuna crispy rice, blackberry margarita, karaage, and so many rolls were perfect.)

Service was poor and the food was underwhelming. My wife couldn’t eat her salmon roll because it was too fishy.

We got put on a waitlist to be seated and expected this to be good because it’s so crowded and popular. Wow, could not have been more wrong. The shrimp in the sashimi and the red dragon roll were both hard from being over cooked. The rice on the sushi rolls is congealed, clumpy and hard just like grocery store sushi. It was an incredible disappointment and I actually feel like I’m being gaslit by all the positive reviews. The only sushi I’ve ever had this bad had been sitting in a grocery store fridge for hours. Skip it and go pretty much anywhere else in Asbury!

Such a unique sushi bar some of the best sushi I’ve ever had and yet there are so many other things to choose from tempura vegetables show me Shosho peppers and a mommy even short rib as well as meatloaf. It is just so unique there. it’s a sushi house with a brand new service is excellent and we go back every six weeks. It’s just great ?

Chris was an incredible waiter, and I had such a delicious meal here. I have never been to Taka but my family in Long Branch absolutely rave about it all the time. I can't wait to come back here and try more of the sushi and appetizer options. Definitely try the rice balls...trust me!

Despite an anticipated hour wait (no reservation) at 6:30 on a Saturday night, we lucked out and scored three seats at the crowded bar within 60 seconds of arrival. Usual vodka cocktail for my bride, Taka negroni for our daughter, and I went with the Kikusui Junmai Ginjo chilled sake. Shishito peppers, kani salad and edamame were perfect nibbles to go with the drinks. The kani was a little disappointing -- not much flavor -- but the other apps were excellent. I didn't taste daughter's vegetable curry, but she pronounced it delicious. Wife and I both had sushi: the "Nigiri Straight Up" for her and I ordered nigiri a la carte: 2 pieces each of tuna, saba, eel, toro and uni. The sushi was fresh, perfectly cut, and the rice was outstanding. My second bottle of sake was the Makiri Junmai Ginjo Extra Dry - perfect accompaniment to the delicious sushi. All in all, a fantastic meal!

Very good vibe and location. Food is very good American version of Japanese food. Menu has entrees for diners who do not enjoy Japanese food. Very large restaurant and loud. I would request the bar or main dining room for seating. Great place for groups.

Every time we go to Asbury, we make it a point to have dinner here at least one night and it never fails to disappoint. This was extra special because it was my birthday dinner and the restaurant and server did a wonderful job trying to ensure I had a great experience complete with dessert with sparklers! There were other people celebrating their birthdays as well and I could see that Taka was doing a great job trying to ensure they also had a wonderful celebration. Everything is always fresh and all the food is very delicious. Make sure to make a reservation because they always book up and sometimes it’s better to call to see if there’s any availability.

We had a wonderful experience here! I worked with their manager to coordinate a dinner for 15 people and it was pretty easy to do. We were able to come up with a pre fixe menu, and all the food was excellent. The service was fantastic- we were so happy with our experience!

My realtor recommended this place for the best Blueberry Margherita and I was not disappointed. Ice cold and refreshing on this 95 degree day. I also ordered the vegetable tempura which was also great. Marco, the bartender extraordinaire,makes this specialty drink and he is awesome. Definitely coming back!

Taka is timeless and delicious. Dinner tonight was particularly good and Danielle was amazing, right there when we needed her and on top of everything. Best service I’ve had in a long time! Thank you!

Average food, nice ambience, good service

It’s just okay. Expected a bit more for the price point. Overall good sushi. Scallop app was delish. But the sushi is mid grade. I splurged for the toro and it was just kinda meh. Not the best, not the worst. Passable food. Cute atmosphere. Overall good date night spot but maybe a bit hyped up. Very speedy service on a busy night at peak dinner time tho. Loved that

It closes at 10 pm and they turned us away at 9:15 pm …..Saying kitchen closes soon. And it is a week night too. Not that they are full or anything. Extremely disappointing.

This was our second time here, plenty of street parking. We did not have reservations but we were seated immediately. They have plenty indoor seating as well as some outdoor seating. We ordered the bbq salmon bento box and some sushi rolls. The miso soup was very tasty as well. Everything was delicious! Staff was nice. Definitely recommend !!

Great place for friday and Saturday night. Beautiful setup get crowded but worth it

The food was really good! We walked in on a Saturday the week before Memorial Day, and the place was pretty busy but got a seat for 2 right away. Great sashimi and rolls. Drinks are a little pricy, and so are the rolls. But the quality is top-notch! Recommend reservations for a larger party.

This place is awesome. Went for the first time bc everyone in Asbury raves about it. The vibe was awesome and the service impeccable. Cannot recommend the scallop appetizer enough. I want to drink that sauce! Also the Beef Negimaki appetizer was incredible too. You cannot sleep on the toro sushi pieces. On par with toro I’ve had at Nobu. But I hate to say this (why it’s only a 4 star review)… I’ve had better sushi rice at Whole Foods :( I hate to write it, but it’s true. Hoping maybe I was there on an off night. Maybe jaded by the many sushi spots in nyc my whole life, but it’s the only thing that needs work. Would still recommend to anyone and look forward to going back. Maybe will stick to more of the sashimi pieces next time.

Love this place - delicious vegetarian sushi options and the grilled tofu and vegetable curry dishes are so good too. Sweet potato fries with bbq sauce are 10/10.

One of my favorite restaurants in Asbury! From the very fresh sushi to the cooked dishes, Taka does it all good. I never thought I’d ever order meatloaf in a restaurant, but after tasting some of my friends, I’ve ordered it and it is delicious!

Great Sushi and the best Short Ribs I have ever eaten

Simply the best anywhere! We started coming here since they were at their old location when we were single and now we come here with our teenage daughters. To be in the business that long and putting out such quality speaks volumes. These days the spark is even brighter - the staff is absolutely amazing from the front of the house to the back. I have not had one thing I didn't enjoy but our favorites are: tsukune, gyoza, guac & chips (one of best guacs I have tasted), veggie udon, grilled tofu, short ribs (so tender), every roll :) and the Dave's Favs wine list is no joke! You all are simply amazing and thank you for always having us - we appreciate you all!

First time here. Great experience. The food was fresh and delicious. The Gyoza and Beef Negamaki appetizers were out of this world. The sushi was delicious too. My only complaint was for the price the sushi lacked on the presentation, otherwise definitely give this place a try if you're looking for a great meal.

The service was excellent however the food quality was severely lacking. The tuna was dull and gray. The salmon was clearly farmed. The seaweed salad was soggy and the manager was smug. I was expecting the best sushi at the Jersey shore but honestly the sushi at Wholefoods is better quality. Don’t waste the money. More hype than substance.

Ive been to Taka many years ago and my husband and I decided to go back this year since we managed to get reservations. The service was great but the food was less than desirable. The shumai did not come with any special dipping sauce outside of soy sauce and unfortunately the Shrimp dragon roll I had did not taste fresh at all. I am not in the habit of returning food so I left it as soon as I tastes the weird piece. The drinks were good. I tipped my waiter generously for his service and left. This is a fairly popular place so I was honestly surprised at the lack of freshness with the shrimp roll. Of note, the place also has an odd smell on the seats.

Nice dinner with family here tonight. Decided to get a hot meal instead of sushi and the Fish and Chips was off the charts. Super fresh, delicate and delicious, the fries were very good also. Shishito pepper app was amazing too. Very happy with the experience!

I frequently visit Taka as the sushi is always on point. On this occasion, busy Saturday evening around 5:30, I prefer the bar area. The dining area is pleasant as well. I would make a reservations if you’re planning to dine during the popular times 5:30 pm and to maybe 8 pm. Bar area is first come first serve . Nice large U shaped bar, with table dinning along side, additional dinning away from the bar area. A few large communal tables by the door. Food was fresh and delicious- consistency is the key. I ordered the Crispy Spicy Tuna, edamame, Tuna Kimono roll along side Spicy Tuna Avocado roll. Not pictured, Toro Sashimi. Crispy Spicy Tuna had the nice crunch from the rice, gave it a nice texture and chew. The tuna is buttery! The Tuna Kimono amazing creation. Sweet potato roll topped with tuna and wasabi mayo. What a great combination of flavor! Spicy tuna roll, (the roll I use to measure sushi to sushi from place to place) Delicious! Not too much rice, great balance in a roll. Worth the trip! Note: parking can be challenging!

Trendy, chic spot for excellent Japanese cuisine, dim sum and sushi. I absolutely love Taka. It's a must visit spot in Asbury Park. Everything was delicious. The sushi was so fresh. My favorite thing was probably the steamed dumplings but honestly the whole meal was just divine.

Our server was very quick and helpful! • The restaurant was extremely clean with no mal odors!! • A very nice bar with a seating area is perfect for sake sipping. • Large tables for groups - always a big plus! Cons: • Food was very underwhelming • Quality and taste of food didn't match the price and environment Overall, I was disappointed with the food quality, but the pros mentioned above were very notable. Menu is a little bizarre with sushi next to meatloaf, but to each their own. Came here because an acquaintance recommended this place. Food was bland and dry, ended up dipping everything in soy sauce, which is disappointing given the cost to eat here.

Went here last night for the first with my girl. If you go here, ask to be seated in Matt’s section. He had earrings in to remember in case there is more than one Matt lol I managed restaurants for over 15 years and he was one of the best servers I’ve ever encountered. He didn’t hesitate to answer “What’s your favorite drinks, apps, and entrees?” Everyone of his recommendations were excellent. The cocktails were excellent. I was ranked in the top 50 best mixologists in 2017 by Heaven Hills. I wish I could’ve met who made our drinks. If you like old fashions, real old fashions, not the Wisconsin over muddled old fashions, get the smoked old fashion. Absolutely perfect pairing with the ribs app. Yes a sushi place that makes amazing fusion ribs. The only thing we didn’t like was the calamari and why I gave 4 stars on food but everything else was 5 stars. We are biased on calamari and like the tentacles. These had no tentacles and every piece of calamari was exactly the same size. As a former manager foh and boh, I know why. Everything else was made to perfection and we will be back. If you go to Taka, get reservations after 6pm. You’re going to need it as the place was filled after 6pm. We were lucky we had an early dinner before the magic show we went to afterwards. Thank you Matt and Taka staff!!!

Service, environment & meal was amazing as always! We always order the Asbury Salmon, edamame, Tsukune, Negimaki, and tuna sashimi. There are so many other tasty dishes, you really can’t go wrong. Our favorite sake is Kubota. It has a lightly sweet taste and boy is it hard not to drink it like water.

There with a group of women while on retreat. Food was delicious. I enjoyed 2 appetizers of Caesar Salad and Crab Cakes. Would definitely recommend.

The service was impeccable with a very attentive and knowledgeable waiter that left you with the feeling that he had intimate knowledge of everything on the menu. Taka is a wonderful example of what happens when people take great care of the dining experience. Well done.

My family and I enjoyed another great night of drinks and dinner last night at TAKA. Everything was wonderful. The staff was attentive and the food was delicious! I had the braised short ribs, they are a big favorite for us. It was a great night all along.

Great atmosphere to have dinner with friends and family or to celebrate a special occasion. Their sushi rolls are unique, with great taste, and are also fresh. The Miso soup is a generous portion compared to most sushi places. The dirty martinis are good but the muddled old-fashioned was not up to par (even with Bulliet Bourbon). Overall great experience and definitely an Asbury favorite. Please like this review if you found it helpful! =)

Perfect Location and Beautiful Facility. I visited for a birthday dinner and the service was quick and attentive. All of the dishes I tried from sushi to entrees were fresh. The cocktails were varied and interesting as well. I will definitely be returning to this Asbury Park mainstay!

I came here for the first time after my graduation and my mom loved the salmon and keeps asking when were going again. so if she’s a fan, I’m a fan!

Went on a Sunday. Respectful staff, kind of slow service even though the place wasn’t anywhere near full. I got the curry with chicken katsu, pretty good, however the rice it was served with came out dry and stuck together, and not in a good way. My boyfriend says he enjoyed his bento box, however his California rolls were falling apart. I’ve heard good things about Taka, hopefully they were just having an off day or something.

Very solid food in a hipster environment. Been going to TAKA since they were in their previous location and a BYOB. Even though they are no longer a BYOB. The food has always been consistently solid.

All the food was excellent, even simple dishes like edamame were extra yummy. Place is beautiful but low key. Service was good not out of this world. Will definitely return.

We ordered all appetizers. We had shrimp and vegetable tempura, tsukune, yellowtail with jalapeños, and crispy spicy tuna. All were delicious. The crispy rice cakes of the crispy spicy tuna were different. All seafood was fresh. The service was great and friendly. It’s popular and lively.

We had a Wonderful experience! We arrived around 5:15 and were seated immediately. Matt was our server and he was so polite and engaging. We asked his opinion for appetizers so he recommended a few and we ordered two of them. The pork ribs and shrimp appetizers were delicious. I had the frozen sangria and a Martini, they were very well made. My husband said the shrimp teriyaki was delicious. I the had sushi. The avocado on the sushi was so creamy and sushi rice was so soft the roll pretty much melted in my mouth. I loved it. Thank you to Matt for making our experience so enjoyable. Hope to visit again soon.

Sorry, but I felt discriminate in this place, I was waiting 1 hr for my main food, People who came 30 minutes after us were treated better than us.I would never go back.
