Taqueria Merlo is a combination Grocery store and Restaurant, logically separated, clean and well organized. You can choose to eat in or order your food for takeout. The food is Excellent! My roommate usually orders the Tacos and I really like the Burrito Grande (that comes with rice & refried beans on the side). This is a great place to sit, relax and enjoy your meal. Then afterwards you can wander through the grocery section and see if there's anything you might like to try. ALSO, I believe there's a butcher section for meats. I haven't checked that out yet.

Got two tacos (ordered four) dry beef on a tortilla. Nothing else just overcooked meat!

Best tacos in the area! Ordered the arrachera dinner, and was impressed with how tender the meat was! Brother ordered the fajita plate and was served more meats than he could finish! Great value for the money.

Great quality and good portion of authentic Mexican food, definitely in the top 5 of Mexican restaurants I have visited. It has a salad bar with different salsa, and other toppings to add to your plate. The other side is a small local market with fresh produce and other home essential items.

I ordered the flautas, they were good as always, service is always fine, however, they should put some money on remodeling the salon.

This restaurant is five stars all the way. If you want some true authentic Mexican food, this is the restaurant for you and your family. You definitely get your money's worth. They even have a grocery store inside next to the sit down restaurant. Also a butcher/meat shop.

This place has the best authentic Mexican food in Avon Park. If you’re not sure about what to order ask to see the menu. The only thing is you have to walk up and order at the counter and wait for your order to be called. But very worth it!

I lived in rural Mexico for two years and this is a real Mexican place. The first clue is that you hear more Spanish than English in the dining room and the second clue is that you can watch a lady hand making tortillas.

The best Mexican restaurant in Highlands County hands down. I've never had a meal that was not delicious. Not only that but the prices on their meat are extremely well.

Let start off with, we immediately felt not welcome just walking in if your not Mexican or caucasian your made to feel not welcomed. I was told this place add the best fajitas. I beg to differ, no flavor no seasoning nothing at all just meat and veggies. I don't know if our food was made tasteless on purpose for us not to return. Job well done they don't ever have to worry about my family and I ever spending a dime in the place.

It's a good place to find everything you need while traveling or in town: store, ready hot food, fresh meat market and just made sweet bread. Little overprized but understandable since there's not much competition of such services around.

If you liked the service that a store worker such as a butcher or cook gave you, if you want to tip that person, give it directly to the person because if you put it in the Tip Jar, the cashier will keep it and will not share it with Nobody gets all the tips to the cashier on duty.

We went there for breakfast tacos, which were WONDERFUL! We ended up staying and shopping in the Carniceria for another 30 minutes after breakfast.

We travel for good Mexican food! Nice variety! Tacos came plain..meat only..but there is a topping bar. You can add your favorites to your liking! LOVE LOVE LOVE the Tostadas! You can dine in or take out...and do a little shopping while you wait for your yummy food! They have a meat counter and a grocery section! We will return to try the FAJITAS ❤️ Thank you!

Been looking for good, authentic Mexican food since moving here from Southern AZ. This is exactly the place I was looking for. Cheap, SAVORY food, with good portions. I cannot say more. This place is amazing.

Best place around for authentic tacos and tamales. They get it right every time. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait to place your order but that’s because they are so busy. People come from all over to eat this food. You can see them cook your food as it’s an open kitchen. I’ve never been disappointed with anything I’ve ever gotten. Half of this place is a restaurant and the other half is a grocery store. Anything you want to purchase to make your own authentic Mexican food you can buy right there in the store.

We were blown away by this place, food was prepared as if it were for a family member, definitely our new Mexican food place now. Steaks had a tasty, slightly smoky taste, perfectly seared and served with delicious rice, beans and fresh salad. Flavorful, juicy chicken chimichanga and tasty pollo asado. Amazing costillas en salsa, perfectly spiced, with just the right heat level braised pork in a delicious red sauce. Can’t wait to try more! Hopefully they will consider Ubereats or Doordash soon 🤞🏼

Only giving 3 stars due to not having a separate line for call in and dine out orders. When calling in and it being 20 mins till ready then you walk in and have to wait 30 mins to pay your food is cold by the time you walk out! Would give 5 stars if they would just have a separate line for take out.

A mini store, true Mexican habitat, so delicious, like a party in you're mouth!!! The parking is crowded sometimes and they don't know how to park great.. but it doesn't ruin the experience!

This place is a hidden gem in central Florida. We were here twice in May & it’s delicious! It’s a nondescript building with a grocery on one side & casual restaurant on the other. The whole place is very clean with a big open kitchen using fresh ingredients. We had the churassco & it was so good. You get a huge portion with rice, beans & tortillas at a low cost. There is also a salsa bar that you must check out. Definitely recommend visiting here!

This place offers genuine Mexican food. Each order is freshly made in front of you. The staff members are courteous and provide prompt service. The dining area is consistently bustling with customers. Moreover, the establishment also functions as a Mexican supermarket, featuring fresh produce and a meat market. It's an excellent spot to quickly grab a delicious meal.

Merlo's is both a Mexican grocery (get ingredients you can't get elsewhere) and THE place to go for authentic Mexican food is the Tacqueria inside the grocery. I've been repeatedly for lunch and take-out. The atmosphere reminds me of taquerias and local restaurants I've dined at in Mexico. You're not likely to be impressed with the decor but the food is uniformly excellent and the prices are phenomenal. The restaurant is frequented by many of the local Mexican workers so you're guaranteed to get authentic Mexican cuisine (unlike other Mexican restaurants that seem to cater to "gringo" tastebuds). I keep taking folks to the restaurant and everyone had been impressed with the quality and quantity of food and the prices. Best Mexican food and one of the best bargains in this part of Florida. I have no idea why Chipotle is even thinking of opening a restaurant here (except that it will probably appeal to college students and others who find actual Mexican food a bit too "foreign."

Always Delicious! My buddy and I live on opposite coasts, him near Tampa, me near Stuart. This is our lunch meeting place and it never disappoints! Authentic, superbly-prepared Mexican food, served hot and fresh, at reasonable prices. You can actually watch the lady behind the counter, hand-making the tortillas fresh! Lovely people who run it. Always worth the drive! It's a market in the front, take out restaurant with seating in the back and it is always mobbed. Parking is sometimes difficult because the place is so popular. You won't be disappointed!
