Been going here for many years. Food is always consistent.

The food was terrible and the customer service was even worse! I paid $70 for two dinners and drinks. Not to mention they didn’t stopped answering the phone when I called for them to rectify the problem about how nasty the food was. The only reason they got this one star is so I could leave this real review. 0/10 I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND!!

Pretty good, super convenient. Food is served cafeteria style so was nice to grab and go. There's also a few seats if you'd like to dine in. Food was pretty good, oxtails were tender, gravy was right, sides were flavorful.

I really loved going here wall I got the jerk chicken the chicken was ok I think I might have ordered the wrong thing wall the rice and the gravy were also good I feel that they have excellent service and quality of food but the flavors where not entirely there I loved the experience and I will return and get something different I Highly recommend and love the service I was very comfortable and felt very welcomed

There's nothing bad on the menu! There's an energy/presence inside this little spot that's more than their amazing, AUTHENTIC foods & it draws you in; I didn't want to leave even when I was done eating! I can't wait to go back for the goat curry!

Some of the best island food ive ever eaten. Great flavor with just enough spice. Some of the best ribs around on Wednesday and Friday. You better call before 11AM if you wants some ribs cause they sell out quick. Great hospitality as well very friendly atmosphere.

I’ve had Jamaican food many times and expected more but this food was mediocre. It wasn’t very flavorful. I paid $13.99 for curry chicken which is pretty high to me but then the price of food has risen astronomically over the last few years. I most likely want return because the food was to basic. Some may enjoy it but it’s not for me.

Mediocre at best. Chicken was chewy instead of slow cooked fall off the bone meat . At least that’s what I’m accustomed to eating when it’s Jamaican. Ordered 2 plates both with chicken and one was much bigger than the other. Sauce was spilled in the container .

The jerk, curry chicken and curry goat are my Favorites. Best time to go is when they first open. Never disappointed. Oh and try the juices

I arrived around 1pm, no long wait & they still had some white meat jerk chicken, the beans & rice, and cabbage were good! This place is a quick pick up & go most of the times.

My spot indeed would get 5 stars but yall stop giving out as much meat (pork) and added more rice

This is my first time trying Jamaican food and it is delicious!! I got the jerk chicken plate with rice & beans and cabbages and everything taste so good! The men running the counter were very friendly. I will definitely come back whenever I get the chance!

It’s good. But not as seasoned as I’m used to with Jamaican food. Way overpriced. I mean wayyyyyy over priced. Might come back, but it’s very average to me.

I purchased the Curry Goat & cabbage. Overall it was really good and if you like spicy food, this would be a nice choice! I paid $19.39 for this plate only, which is a bit expensive to me. The employee/owner were Very nonchalant, but not everyone is talkative. I would come back to visit though.

This was my first time in here. Super cool spot for a quick lunch. Really good food. I got the oxtail. Came stacked on a pile of rice with some beans in it. The gravy with the ox tail was absolutely delicious. Fine eating! But it's kinda a rough spot and if you're unfamiliar with downtown Jackson it may not be the place for you. But damn was it good

Is a nice change from the norm. Is a hole in the wall kinda place. Great, friendly service. The chef seems to genuinely care and it obvious he love sharing his style of food. I love the music and you want leave hungry.

Great food, very flavorful. I always get the jerk chicken and it always taste amazing with so much flavor! The people are always friendly and I love how they are interactive with the community too. I am sad they are not open on weekends but I always recommend everyone I know to come and try their food!

I actually met the owner of this establishment prior to visiting the location. His presence and personality ensured that his cuisine would be the location of authentic island good I've been looking for since I moved to MS. I was very satisfied with my choice!

This is home cooked type Caribbean food. Bone in chicken with skin on type flavor. I didn’t have chicken though. I had shrimp and have been wanting the chicken ever since. Shrimp was yummy and came with a rice side that looked like gallo pinto. He covered it in a curry sauce but the sauce was light and added to the flavor. Shrimp was delicious as was side of boiled cabbage. The only negative is that there was no air. It was fine when I ate there yesterday but when it really heats up in MS, I am praying the AC kicks on.

Authentic. Oxtails. Chicken. Ribs. Each protein entrée comes with two sides. I always choose rice and beans and sautéed cabbage. The cabbage is "to LIVE for". The rice and bean serving is enough to feed two people. Occasionally will serve beef patties.

The food is simply fantastic here. I love the cream soda too. The owner is super friendly. In the heart of Jackson, it's convenient and a great place to go to.

We've tried to come by here 3 times. They would close when they run out of food even though it states 4pm as their hours of operation. I don't eat enough Caribbean Jamaican food to tell you if it's authentic or not... but I can tell you that it's good. I really enjoyed their rice with the chicken curry and jerk chicken. Cabbage was great too. Only negative was that our portions were a little small. They don't have ac so I can't imagine eating here during the summer. Other than that, it was good.

I've eaten at Taste of the Island only once so far but will definitely return. I especially loved the curried shrimp and fried plantains. In addition to enjoying the food, I enjoyed the friendliness of the people working there and the other customers. The only reason my rating is a four rather than a five is that I frequently go to lunch with several friends, but there are no tables for more than two at Taste of the Island (and not enough space to pull two tables together).

This is a purely Jamaican and Caribbean restaurant. They have great food great prices and great customer service. They also have great authentic Jamaican and Caribbean non alcoholic drinks such as ginger beer and other drinks. They are a very interesting and authentic eating spot.

First time trying "carribean" food, so I can't tell you if it's authentic, but it is very tasty. I had the Jerk Ribs with steamed cabbage & carrots + fried plantains. The guy serving the food ladled broth from what I believe was the oxtails over the cabbage, which was amazing. Ribs were very tender, but not mushy. The employees seemed less than enthused to be working, but weren't rude and were quick to complete my order (takeout). Overall, I'd definitely go back. I can't remember the last time I've tried chewing through the bones for the last bit of juice and marrow.
