Very nice place, staff was great and the mocha was amazing!

My favorite coffee joint this side of the WV border. Good large sizes like DUNKIN large, good size lobby for lounging, using laptops. Monthly special lattes with lots of flavor where you can still taste the quality of coffee beneath Coolers are stocked with extra drink options. Hot sauces, jams, chocolate, GOOD ground coffee options are also available. They have donuts on Thursdays i believe. Decent farmer's market next door

I look for the most recently roasted coffee and Iike that they date their roasting on the package. Quality varies a bit but generally good.

I love to come to Black Dog Coffee to get ground coffee to make at home. They grind the beans while I am there to the specific grind that I like. Every cup that I make at home is great. And I love the design of their bag. It looks great setting on the coffee station at our rental property. We have gotten many compliments on Black Dog Coffee from our rental guests. I will continue to make this our #1 coffee brand.

Great coffee and the staff is great.

It would otherwise get a higher review, but when you pay by card and the tip screen asks you to pay a percentage of not only services, but also goods - I have no choice but to leave the lowest rating. I didn't let it get me this time, but I've bought two hot coffees and several bags of whole bean (unground) coffee at a time. At $9.50+ for each bag of coffee, that adds up quick! If you're not really paying attention, you may hit the 25% tip, trying to do the right thing, and wind up paying much more than you realize. It's dishonest and poor business ethics to prey on the generosity of your customers. The tip screen should only ask you to tip a percentage of pre-taxed services. Also, prices should be prominently displayed for all items in the store. Nobody wants to ask.

After a lifetime of gas station coffee and thinking Starbucks was as good as it gets, my wife and I honeymooned to Costa Rica and experienced what coffee should taste like. It turned us into coffee snobs! And as a coffee snob, Im telling you this is easily the best coffee around! If you like Starbucks, try Black Dog. If you don't like Starbucks, try Black Dog!

The coffee is alright. Its always insanely sweet, and they always give you the cardboard to go around your coffee even if you get a cold drink. (Which is wasteful) The atmosphere is non exist, it's like a warehouse with bad lighting. And the trash stains from dragging wet bags out by the outdoor seating is repulsive. Have to hop around just to walk into the establishment. Sadly this is one of the closest coffee shops to where I live.

Very disappointed in the options for caffeine free items. No donuts, croissants, or anything of that nature. Shelves were bare.

The staff was great, and they have a cute little market which I loved. The coffee was delish and they are (appropriately) dog friendly. I got a toasted marshmallow latte and my girlfriend got a matcha. She said it tasted a little watery (but she’s particular) and my coffee was fantastic. Juno loved it.

Had the pleasure of catching up with a former classmate while visiting family in town. What a delightful pet-friendly cafe! The baristas were knowledgeable and treated everyone as they would a friend. My little guy, Hollywood, even enjoyed a pup cup. Two thumbs and four paws up!

100% not Baristas. Ordered a light roast latte, and they tried giving me their house light coffee out of a containerthats probably been sitting there all day, not an actual light roast latte. I asked for a regular latte using their light roast beans, and they had no clue what was going on. For sure, commercial grade low end coffee spot, waste of money.

I am not a big coffee drinker but my friend LOVES their coffee, so I go to buy coffee to bring back to her. Even though I don’t drink much coffee, I HAVE to have some when I go here because the smell is AMAZING. It’s a great place with a good selection and excellent service.

I finally made it to the source of my favorite coffee beans. This is where they roast them! And, of course, you can get coffee and espresso drinks here. And the baristas know how to make their beans deliver! As a sign here says...coffee beans are so fresh...you'll want to slap them. Inside is nice and inviting. But there is no food except chocolate and chips.

All I can say is WOW! Whether you get iced or hot and you tell them what you want! That coffee is GOOOOOD! I am strongly considering not going to Starbucks for coffee ever again!

First time ever here. Im the type if person who loves starbucks. I hate watered down and overly sweet coffee. I got a iced caramel macchiato with oatmilk and *chefs kiss*. Definitely will come here again and a lot. I also love that they sell honey and jellies made by local veterans! The coffee doesn’t taste burnt or watered down. Genuine good smooth coffee. Donuts are great too.

I have gone here multiple times and the staff are always very nice. The coffee is really good and the beans they have make real good coffee. I don't make coffee at home usually but I decided to try with their beans. The coffee is significantly less bitter than store bought grounds and has a good Flavor. I used to go to Starbucks for coffee but now I'd rather go here. Thank you for making great coffee and coffee chocolate!

I came into Black Dog coffee on Sunday July 2 2023. I was greeted nicely as usual, I am a consistent customer and have never had any problem until Sunday. I was greeted by a redhead who was very nice. A very tall but rather stinky man took my order. I caught a whiff of his indescribably terrible odor and was immediately appalled. My appetite had died. But I was too far in so I continued my order. I was waiting for a while, but the interior was very welcoming and the time passed. I was waiting for my drink and asked another worker where my drink was. She was asian and I asked for her name I believe it was Heather. When I asked where my order was and stated I had been waiting fifteen minutes she rolled her eyes and mumbled something about customers. I ignored her comment and waited for her answer. She finally returned with my drink after another five minutes and slammed it on the counter. I have never had this kind of interaction at Black Dog and am severely disappointed. The only good workers were the young redhead who apologized sincerely for my wait and a long haired blonde girl who didn’t say much. I enjoy Black Dog coffee very much and will continue buying products but this experience was very upsetting. 3 out of 5 stars.

Nice small spot that makes amazing coffee. All the staff was kind, and knowledgeable regarding the different types of coffee. The coffee was wonderful and made to perfection. The decor was so nice and welcoming.

Having visited with every so often these last few months, I've been consistently pleased with ideal, friendly service and satisfying orders. While here, there is generally a few others as well waiting to order, but the line moves quickly with efficiency. Coffee is prepared fresh with quality ingredients and beans. In addition to coffee and drink orders, other items are available for purchase. Other goods are offered from a variety of local businesses in addition to take-home bags of coffee beans or grounds for home preparation. Several tables as well as limited countertop seating are available for indoor dining. A large window allows for customers to see the roasting process in an adjacent room, and, at times, the Black Dog themselves will be present.

I hosted my quarterly client dinner at The Black Dog Coffee Company, yes dinner! Brian and Jennifer were so gracious to open up their space, set up to accommodate 30 business professionals (including tables and chairs) and provide the most delicious coffee and chocolates! Their hospitality was so incredibly warm, inviting, and fun! We even had a few children there that were encouraged to be children and just have fun! Absolutely priceless! They provided a tour of the coffee roasting process and explained every step in detail. Fascinating! They also provided a tour and showed us the chemistry of the chocolate making process! And this was ALL after hours! We were, I am, in awe! What a gem this is in our community!

We love this place! We are new to town and first had their coffee at the farmer's market. Then we visited the roastery and it's a pretty cool place (obviously with delicious coffee). Their chocolate is also good.

I was out at Shenandoah junction for baseball game and stopped by Black dog coffee to get some coffee for homemade cold brew. The coffee is excellent but the young lady at the front was not very nice or hospitable. I had questions about the coffee and buying a t-shirt and it was almost like I was annoying her by asking questions to spend $50 at their coffee shop.

Delicious iced coffee but alittle pricey.

This place used to be amazing but for the past year their turnover rate is terrible. I was an OG customer and still have a thousand "collect 9 to get a free coffee" sleeves. It now reminds me of Dunkin Donuts because the coffee is different every time due to new staff. Judging by the owner's responses on here I'm sure they fault it to "no one wants to work" and not their own management. It's a real shame!

The turnover rate is the worst I've ever seen which not only is an indication of poor management but it also takes away any hopes of getting consistency on repeated visits. It is also obvious that there is no positive communication at all between management. In regards to Miss Nerdy's review, it wasn't totally true as she left out the part of the co-owner sitting around the shop after hours passing around joints with her favorite customers and mixing moonshine drinks. The mice problem will always exist because of the location and out of sight cleaning is not a priority. The mold will continue to be an issue because once again, out of sight cleanliness is not a concern and focus is shifted to more important things like me riding an e-bike to the regional jail and back. If I get the childish and very dishonest response from management that Miss Nerdy received, I will not hesitate to post proof to multiple social media platforms because honesty and transparency with customers is what really matters most.

If you're passing through and need a pick-me-up, stop here. Coffee and coffee drinks are top notch. Friendly staff, line moves pretty well, they have a point system so you get free drinks to fuel your addiction.

I live this place it is my go to every Friday morning the people there are nice the coffee is good and you can smell the beans as soon as you walk threw the door. It's wonderful!!!

Great local coffee. They have a large variety of flavors and milk options for everyone. I consistently get their iced lattes and they have all been fantastic! Maybe I'm not as much of a connoisseur as others but I have never noticed their coffee tasting burnt, always delicious!

My go-to for locally roasted coffee beans for the espresso machine. Always a crowd too; that's a tell-tale of the food and drinks they serve.

The beans sold for retail at this location taste ashen, like they were roasted improperly. You're still better off buying the beans though because Black Dog's beans require more rest than most roasteries' beans because they're very high in CO2, which is a little ironic given the place's obsession with freshly roasted beans. Usually for brewed coffee coffee beans require 3-5 days rest and espresso 10-14. I haven't had good experience making black dog coffee in my brewer with anything less than 16 days rest, and even then it's not much to write home about. The tasting notes aren't written on the bags and have to be found either on little placards or online, which can be frustrating if you're trying to pick something out, and the place charges $19 per bag. I'm not opposed to paying extra for good coffee (and do, frequently), but this isn't good and it doesn't earn that price. If you absolutely must buy from a local roaster, Weird Brothers and Cafe Amouri are just on the other side of the state border, reasonable for a weekend trip. If you're on the go and just want a cup of coffee immediately without having to make it yourself, Joan and Joe on the southern end of Charles Town makes a lot more sense

Excellent coffee , hometown atmosphere

I really want to like this place but everytime I get coffee it’s really inconsistent. The majority of the time the coffee taste burnt. I think their baristas need more training. I went today and it had the strangest burnt aftertaste. I also think they should use another bean for their espresso ive bought their more expensive beans and they taste better than what they serve over counter. Lastly we always place a online order and for two coffees it takes a estimated wait time of 30 mins and it isn’t even busy half the time. Which leads me to believe the baristas need more training. I do hope they train the staff a bit more bc I would love to keep supporting a local business.

I've been going here semi-regularly since I moved out here. This coffee shop is quaint and roasts its own beans (which as a coffee-lover, I enjoy). They support many local companies which is also a give draw for me. (The coffee scented soaps are quite nice too.) Edit: Sadly, I have moved out of West Virginia since writting this; however, I highly recommend this place still! Miss you!

I come here often for remote work and the staff is very kind. Most already know my regular order. The coffee is some of the best I’ve had too! They don’t mind if you come here to study or do work, and the layout is perfect for that with many tables and outlets for laptops. Will continue to visit through winter!

A poor representation of modern specialty coffee. The menu is something of an off-brand Starbucks menu, where you can get cappucinos and macchiatos in different sizes, which is largely not much of a thing anymore with traditional shops. It seems they have a high turnover rate, which indicates to a poor management system, and the bar layout itself is somewhat janky and inefficient. The coffee itself is too dark and clearly over-roasted. A true shame considering Black Dog's convenient location for so many people. I wish them success, however, despite these disappointing shortcomings.

Great place here! Make sure you give it a try. I was very satisfied with the drink and the atmosphere. They close at 6pm on week days and we moved out side and enjoyed the weather. Restroom was "super clean" and the whole experience deserves 6 stars. Please also check out "Sibling Coffee" down town Charles Town. Both are excellent!
