There were a few issues we had on our last visit which were uncharacteristic of The Gables compared with our prior visits. We all have short comings from time to time. I believe it is not so important that these shortcomings occur, but rather why they happen and what the business establishment is willing to do in order to prevent them from reoccurring. After bringing my concerns forward, I received a very pleasant call and apology from Carly, the General Manger. The Gables demonstrates they truly care about the customers and their experience. I would highly recommend this establishment.

Setting was nice. Staff was confused and rushed. Food was average. Overpriced versus comparable restaurants on island. Risotto was runny, scallops cold, steak was good but way overpriced and desert was good, not great. Overall disappointing experience.

We had the most incredible dining experience at the Gables of LBI last weekend! Their five star chef Richard does everything to perfection! Started off with the burrata and peach salad, which was delectable & refreshing. My entrée was the swordfish which was cooked and seasoned to perfection on top of delicious cappellini and broccoli rabe. My fiancé had the grilled pork chop, which also was excellent Then the chocolate ganache for dessert! Servers were exemplary and the service could not have been better. If you’re looking for a superior dining experience, look no further than The Gables of LBI!

I can't help but rave about The Gables! This is not your average Jersey Shore restaurant. When you go to The Gables, you are getting a full culinary experience. It's a pre fixe menu, which normally is limiting and difficult... but at The Gables, you will never leave dissatisfied. I've been swooning over the watermelon gazpacho since last summer, but it was even better this weekend. The peach and buratta appetizer was delightful, fresh, and a perfect balance of sweet, crisp, and creamy. My husband loved the duck, and I can not say enough about the Apricot porkchop. With all of the fruit accents in our dishes, we went with the red sangria to lean into the fresh and light taste of summer. Perfect date night 💓 Yes you can find a number of fantastic dinner spots across Long Beach Island, but there's just something extra special about the Gables.

Our waiter was great and the setting is beautiful. The food was awful and it was by far the worst meal we've had on the island. This was shocking considering it's one of the more "high-end" restaurants here. Every place we've been to in LBI is better and literally half the price. If you want a nice room to sit in and nothing else, this is your place.

My fiancee and I wanted to book a fancy dinner date night on LBI, and we found The Gables. Their website said, "Wear designer socks when dining at The Gables Historic Inn and Restaurant in Beach Haven, NJ." So we got dappered up, but it turns out The Gables tries to be more than they let on. People were wearing sandals and shorts and t-shirts - so we ended up being way overdressed and in an atmosphere that doesn't allude to a fancy upscale dinner. We ordered their prixe fixe menu and for the price of $120 per person there were some disappointments. We initially sat at a table with an overhead AC unit that was dripping on the table which was gross. So after we notified our server, we switched tables, and then we placed our order. The fresh bread and butter were delicious. The steak, however, for an extra $45 on top of the $120 base price, was not cooked to order, and the fries that came with it were soggy. The corn risotto was water logged and the flourless chocolate cake left much to be desired for. For an overall $420 experience, I'd say theres better restaurants to visit on LBI, so save your money.

Excellent atmospheric restaurant. I have had dinner here outside and inside. Both are lovely. The waiters are attentive and knowledgeable. The food is excellent and very well presented. I am a repeat diner here because I like the relaxing atmosphere. They can and do accommodate children. They can only serve wine because they do not have a full liquor license. Nice choices on the list including half bottles. Dining here is event like. It is a quiet restaurant even with a full house. A must go to. Dress nicely. Beach neat casual. Expect to spend about 140 a person without wine.

Steve and Sondra (I hope I spelled your name correctly!), My wife, Ingrid, and I couldn't have had a better experience this past weekend. We have dined at Gables numerous times over the years (even when it was previously known as Green Gables) and have stayed at your inn a few times, too. Things couldn't have been better -- from the accommodations to the staff to the dining atmosphere outside in the back to the delicious dinner and breakfast we enjoyed. I want to give a particular shout out to Imelda, who prepared an incredible breakfast for us out on the front porch even though we arrived late. She is such a wonderful person and accomplished, first-class chef. I hope she stays forever! The dinner the night before was outstanding -- the soup I ordered (Thai carrot) was the most delicious, I think, I have ever had, my salmon was perfect, and the flourless chocolate cake incredible. We will be back as soon as we can; LBI, and Beach Haven in particular, is -- no exaggeration -- my favorite place in the world and one of the reasons why is Gables. Thanks for making our stay memorable. Tom Flannery

I've eaten at the Gables numerous times over the years with family and friends. Last night was the worst meal I had ever had at the Gables. Started with the server being rude, too much in rush to get our order, not paying g attention to our request. When the meal arrived, oh by the way was the very well known bone in filet which was cook as through the chef had never grilled before in his life. The meat was terribly charred burn, I'm still having that terrible taste in my mouth as I write this review. Server was no where to found so we could make return or changes. Manager and owner showed compensation for a very expensive poorly made dinner. I am very disappointed at the performance of Gables.

My wife and I truly enjoyed our autumn weekend at the Gables! We started with dinner on Friday night where the meal was exquisite from start to finish. In particular, we loved the Herb crusted salmon and a delicious pork chop dinner. The burrata appetizer was great as was the crème brûlée dessert. Our room was very comfortable, and there were many thoughtful extra amenities, such as a bottle of Pellegrino in the room and a coffee service in the library that was available throughout the day. Breakfast was superb. We followed up with a lovely walk on the beach then took a drive around Long Beach Island. For dinner on Saturday night we both had the bone in filet mignon, which rivals or surpasses anything you can find in the very best steakhouses. After another wonderful breakfast on Sunday morning, we said goodbye to our hosts, Steve and Sondra. This amazing couple left no stone unturned making sure that we had a relaxing and lovely weekend. The Gable Inn is very highly recommended.

I cant gush enough about The Gables. This is my go to happy place for a delicious fancy fairytale like dinner out. The entire place is magical and a must see, the flowers, the details, all of it delights your every sense. The food is absolutely delicious every time, the Pianist is remarkable, The owners are super detail oriented and kind. To make it even more glorious is to stay over night in one of the rooms, watch the sun go down and the sun rise right up the street on the beach, soak in a big tub, borrow a book from the library. You can not go wrong here, its a hit every time!

Beautiful ambience at this restaurant! We sat on the porch which was filled with hanging baskets of flowers. There is a pre-fix menu for $98 / person with a choice of appetizers, entree and dessert. Some items have an upcharge. My starter was the lobster ceasar salad with a $12 upcharge. It was overflowing with lobster and delicious. The scallops were also wonderful as was the decadant chocolate cake. My husband loved the filet mignon ( with an upcharge) and enjoyed his appetizer and the lemon blueberry cheesecake. The Price Fixe Menu has incredible options to meet everyone’s flavor profiles. The owner, Sondra, is friendly and made sure she visited everyone’s table to thank them and get their feedback. They do serve Wines from a Local NJ Winery, but also encourage BYO with no corkage. Just a fantastic Meal in a great setting. A favorite in the past, but no longer. While this has always been a pricey outing, its value no longer holds. With a prix fix menu of $98 per person, I would expect EVERYTHING on the menu to be included in the prix fixe. Much to our surprise, most of their entrees and appetizers had an ADDITIONAL surcharge. Portions were smaller than in the past, service was surprisingly lacking. Not a good experience. It has been a favorite, but we are moving on.

I’ve always wanted to dine at the Gables so was very excited to choose them for Mother’s Day brunch. The atmosphere was outstanding but the total brunch bill with tip came to $500 for just 3 adults (drinking just water). The prefixed menu stated $98 per person so you would think they accidentally charged for 4 adults … nope there were upgrades on our meals! I felt very mislead and disappointed.

Let me begin by stating that this location is just darling. Everyone is kind and welcoming. The atmosphere is lovely. The issue we faced is that we felt extremely misled by the Mother's Day prefixed menu, and more specifically, the kids prefixed menu. When I left Mother's Day brunch with a $1,200 bill with tip for 6 adults and 3 children under 4 years old, I could not help but question the decision I made for us to eat there. We moved to the area last year and have been looking forward to finally dining here. Our children are 2, 3, and 4. Their prefixed brunch menu did not state a price. I was wrong in assuming the price for pancakes, soup, mac and cheese, and chocolate chip cookies would be around $25 - $30 per child. I should have asked -- but I was shocked to see the restaurant charged $50 for these items. The adult menu was prefixed, and we were completely okay with the $98 price. Although overpriced for paninis (3 duck paninis were $300 on our bill) and upgrades on top of the fixed prices seemed like we were being charged too much. It was tasty but I feel overrated for the price... My experience was not the magical one I have read about and hoped for. We felt taken advantage of considering the day, although we are aware restaurants will upcharge on Mother's Day this felt like a step beyond.

This a top notch fine dining experience you don’t want to miss!! The food was so delicious. We did the $98 prefix dinner menu for mother’s day and it perfect. My mom had a wonderful experience as did the rest of the party. Doggy bags on the entree portion to make it to our desserts. Our server Kaitlyn was great, she knew the menu inside and out and checked in accordingly throughout our meal. The building and decor is beautiful as well! We’ll definitely visit again!

It was an off night at the Gables. It took an hour and 45 minutes between first and second course . When our entrées were served three of four were cold. When dessert was served there were still entree dishes on the table. We told the runner and she said her hands were full. We’ve eaten here multiple times and didn’t expect this unpleasant experience. The server and owner did apologize multiple times, however, for these prices, service and food is expected to be above par.

Coming back here to adjust my review after awhile, the food here has gone extremely down hill. It used to be full of love and finese but now it is super pretentious. My Honey-Roasted Heirloom Carrot starter was an amazing taste treat and the Bone-In Filet Mignon with Broccolini was outstanding! My wife thoroughly enjoyed the Mediterranean Tomato Salad starter The Grilled Berkshire Pork Chop. Although we ate inside, the garden in the back of the property is a wonderful place for dining. As always, the best restaurant on LBI. So many of these negative reviews just crack me up. “Someone had to move so I can go to the bathroom” God forbid you had to say “excuse me” to someone. “Small portions” Come on, I need a damn diet and we still had leftovers for 3 plates of lunch the next day. “It’s hit or miss” Well, we’ve hit it about 30 times since 2010, and we’ve never once been disappointed or hungry. So incredibly good, we had to get married there! Get over yourselves. Please. On to the food. Yes, it’s prix fixe. Yes, it’s expensive. As a civil servant, I can’t afford to go there twice a week. That’s why it’s a special occasion. Start of summer, end of summer, and our anniversary dinner. Maybe an Easter or Valentine’s Day thrown into the mix. It’s a spectacular restaurant, with amazing food made by the best chef and the best ambiance of any place, possibly in NJ. We started out with a perfect bottle of Bellview Traminette, the most perfect summer wine. First course: The ricotta gnocchi and the lobster Caesar salad. The gnocchi is in some sort of biblical lamb bolognese with some eggplant and something that gave it just the slightest crunch. The best gnocchi I’ve ever tasted, and it’s not even an Italian restaurant. The Caesar was good. Plentiful lobster, perfectly cooked and chilled, only observation would maybe be that the dressing be a little more “Caesary,” if that makes any sense. Still delicious. Accompanied by fresh, out of the oven (super hot) bread that was perfectly soft and crunchy at the same time. Main course: we had the halibut and the pork chops. Everything was perfectly cooked and delicious, but after eating every last morsel of the first course, we were getting full. Both the fish and pork chop reheated perfectly for an amazing lunch the next day. Desserts: we had the coffee crème brûlée at the table, it was the most amazing I’ve ever had. Should’ve ordered two. The cheesecake we took to go. Also delicious. Save up for the special occasion. Whatever you do, don’t pass up this gem. Wonderful owners, chef, staff, hostess… just amazing.

I was a disappointed when I arrived as I had requested to sit outside and left messages requesting this when I booked it . The 2 hostess in the front seamed fairly new and did not provide the help when I mentioned it , I did not feel that they tried to accommodate . I felt that for the cost that I paid for 3 people it should have been accommodated . We were seated in the room with the red walls which was beautiful but it was too cold for us and still the manager said nothing could be done . She was nice about it but we not feeling comfortable which intern did not help with the experience I was hoping for . Besides that part , everything else was perfect . Imelda are waitress was amazing and helped us feel better and not leave… She even took us to the garden area so that we could at least get a glimpse Of where I really wanted to sit to get the magical experience The food was nice . I ordered the crab cake , which was very tasteful . The scallops w mushroom risotto for dinner it was ok and my friends ordered the filet mignon and said it was amazing . I had the coffee crème brûlée it was amazing Definitely recommend the gables but would make sure you get the seating you request . Thanks to Imelda I will definitely return and maybe this time I get to experience the garden ✨✨✨

My Wife and I enjoyed a wonderful "date night" out at the Gables. It was our first time there for dinner and it was wonderful. The wait staff was awesome - she saw our table had a bit of a wobble to it - without hesitation, fixed it before we began dining. The dining room was quaint and cozy - with the doors open to the street allowing for the abeyance of the outdoors inside, as well as a nice cool breeze to pass through. There was also a great piano player providing live entertainment - and not too loud or soft - just right so we could actually have a conversation and not be distracted or overtaken by the music. I feel I also need to mention the gardening and flowers - so beautiful and well maintained! Lastly - the food - Superb! The Gnocchi was such a good appetizer... The bone in Filet was outstanding, with the right amount of 'char' and a gradient pink center to the cut. Since we both love Bellview Winery in NJ - it was no surprise the Chambourcin was a perfect accompaniment to the meal (as well as the Nana's White Sangria too). The Chocolate Gateau with their homemade Pistachio ice cream did not disappoint as a dessert either. All-in-all - if you're looking for a nice little romantic date-night in LBI - do not look over this place. It was a wonderful time out, with delicious food and spirits. Enjoy!

Disappointing. Very limited, prix fixe “tasting menu” - i.e. small portions - for $98 per person plus wine. While the eggplant and the flatbread appetizers were very good, each was about three bites. The duck main course was good as was the eggplant but again extremely small plates - we were very surprised at $98 per person. The vanilla bean cheesecake was quite good, but the key lime dessert was more key lime cold soup - not what was expected. Wine line is limited, but our selection - the NJ Belleview Blaufrankish - was quite good. The service was outstanding as is the venues interior. Bottom line - overrated, overpriced, and many better available options on LBI.

Was not given a choice of iced tea or anything else so I guess they just have water. BYOB for a place like this is crazy. Can only buy bottles of wine if you want. Sat for 10 mins before speaking to a server. There are much better places on the island than this. For $98 it should be chef's choice where you get smaller plates of food that are items you can't have anywhere else. Also had to sit and sweat outside even though I made inside reservations. Just disappointed.

This place is beautiful, quaint and delicious. The only knock I have is the waitress brought my desert while I was still eating my meal. Should not happen with pre-fix of $98 p/person. Other than that it was a wonderful evening!

The only reservations were 5:30, after leaving around 7:00 the place was nearly as deserted as arrived. I had a pork chop that was served diagonally cut through adding to it's well done dryness, unsure why since the parasite in pork has been eradicated. This same pork chop that I believe gave me an encounter of food poisoning throughout the night into early the following morning. Possibly from being not busy and having a proper rotation of product. The waitress and training waiter were wonderful themselves, I caught wind of the waiter in training being told about the cameras. If the powers that be sit there to watch the cameras to scrutinize their staff, I think it would be wise to do something else with their time. Unfortunately I feel the staff being under watch added to an uncomfortable stuffiness, While attentive to service, it felt they were over attentive as if being chaperoned, creating a feeling that certainly was not demographically suited to the laid back comfortable atmosphere that I experienced elsewhere through LBI during the duration of my trip. I don't believe the price reflected the quality of food or atmosphere considering choices were limited from a prefix menu, and I'm not one to put a value on food... I think the plates could have been a little less seasoned as well, It seems restaurants like to mask and disguise plates with toppings that shouldn't be. It just seemed as if the entire place was trying to hard to make it something it wasn't. Unimpressed.

EDIT: Sondra was very helpful and resolved all issues! Our food & experience was truly wonderful but two months after dining here I was charged $50 because when my partner and I requested to change our reservation time, our original reservation was apparently left on the books and marked as a no-show. I’ve called 3+ times asking for my money back and they referred me to OpenTable (who only refunds for reservations within the last 30 days, therefore useless since they charged me 60 days later). Every time I call I’m told the manager will call me back but I’ve yet to receive any calls or voicemails from anyone at The Gables.

My wife and I stayed at Gables Inn for a long weekend without the kids. What a delight. The accommodations and restaurant were exceptional. The Inn itself is oozing with charm and elegance, and the staff is warm and courteous. The owners have impeccable taste and have overlooked no detail in making the Inn a special experience for their guests. We look forward to returning often.

I want to like The Gables more, but I don't think the overall dining experience lives up to the price--It seems somewhat hit or miss. For example, on my last recent visit I did enjoy the seafood bisque appetizer a lot, but the duck entree with cabbage seemed an odd, not particularly flavorful choice. One highlight is their selection of New Jersey wines from Belleville Winery, which in the case of the Merlot at least was much more enjoyable than the average person might expect.

Hosting our 66 person wedding at the Gables was an absolute DREAM. The venue is impeccable, classic, tasteful, and very clearly well cared for. The owners, Sondra and Steve, are incredibly hands on and do everything in their power to make the weekend special. The breakfast in the mornings with both my family and my husband's family will forever be some of my favorite memories. Steve is up early making sure water is filled, glasses are restocked, and coffee is hot and plentiful. My husband and I love food so this was a very important aspect of wedding planning for us. The food was outstanding and many of our guests said it was the best they have had. The flowers are so beautiful and plentiful. I had high expectations but the Gables surpasses every expectation I had and it was truly the wedding of our dreams. The Gables and LBI will forever be a special place to us and we can't wait to celebrate anniversaries here in the future.

I recently dined with my wife post Easter and as I normally do, I view the menu posted as well as reviews. I find any less than favorable review laughable in that people are unwitting that Sondra and Stephen are the only restaurant on LBI that professionally and artfully bring New York to our little Island. Again, their egg ravioli is New York and not found elsewhere. If you are equally unwitting of understating this review, you should stay at home and cook; allow your neighbors to review your dining experience.

The service is spectacular, the cuisine is something you will never taste anywhere, and when you are greeted by the owner Sondra, you will feel like you’ve been welcomed home by a long lost friend. My husband and I also had Thanksgiving dinner at the Gables. We have done this before and were very happy, this time not so much. The atmosphere is great, but we felt very let down. Frankly, I am still sick about paying $300 for our meal. My husband had some type of pasta with a ragu sauce? There wasn't enough of it to even tell. I had a lobster in puff pastry ( had to pay a supplement of course). There were a few small pieces of lobster; not worth the price. We then had the turkey dinners. They came out luke warm, if that , the turkey was dry, stuffing nothing special, potaoes mashed and sweet, cold. My diet soda was even bad...definitely not coke or pepsi.......tasted tinie and completely flat. Deserts were very good. We also had a split of their house wine. Still, all and all not worth the money. I get it, things are more expensive, but it was turkey and potatoes! I think they were using their name and reputation to price gouge somewhat. Servers were sweet and attentive. I hate writing this cause the place is nice, but 3 days later I still feel upset. Won't take the chance again.

Last night we had an opportunity to dine here after so many wonderful reviews. The place is truly magical and the staff could not have been nicer. That being said, I could have skipped the main course, as it was beyond disappointing. My 2 sisters an I all ordered different entrees and they all could be described as mediocre. My 4 scallops on a bed of mushroom risotto had little to no flavor. My sister ordered the salmon which was served on some broccoli bed that tasted more like seaweed with the consistency of puréed grass. My other sister had the duck dish which was a little better than the others. Perhaps it might be time to review what should be considered haut cuisine.

My partner and I stayed at The Gables for three nights last week and everything was just lovely. Our room was comfortable and the breakfast each morning was delicious. We booked The Provence room and appreciated that there were two private bathrooms (a half-bath in the room and a full bath with tub/shower just down the stairwell). After a disappointing experience at another local restaurant (*not The Gables), we decided to make a last-minute dinner reservation at The Gables for our second evening in the area. The food, service, and atmosphere were wonderful. We felt well-taken care of and were just delighted with our meals. We also appreciated that they provided beach towels for guests and, upon request, beach chairs! The location was perfect - just a short walk to the beach. They do also have a Tesla charger and I highly recommend calling in-advance to let them know if you need to plug-in. They will certainly do their best to accommodate you!

We had the most incredible dinners at The Gables in LBI this past weekend! It was a dining experience unlike any other that I've had in a long time....from the gorgeous ambiance, to the professional, pleasant service, and then there's the FOOD! Every meal that my friends and I had was a 5-star experience! Everything was so excellent that we dined there both Saturday night AND Sunday. The Grilled Porkchop - I'm renaming it "The Perfect Porkchop" - succulent, juicy and perfectly cooked, and the potatoes - such flavor! The swordfish entree with braised escarole and hand-made gnocchi - best swordfish dinner I've ever had. And my friend was raving about the Eggplant tower with freshly made hummus. And the appetizers! Ravioli al Uovo, Eggplant Polpette, Creamy Corn chowder with scallop - each one a sensory delight. Exquisite dining experience all around!!

After being to Gables many times, I was truly excited for our dinner. I was surprised and very disappointed when I had no other choice but a $96 three course prix fix. I ordered the cauliflower soup, duck, and cheesecake. The cauliflower soup was okay, duck dish was a very small portion (not even a full breast), and mediocre at best, the cheesecake also mediocre! Overall, I felt overcharged for a dinner that I would never expect from a restaurant like Gables. Everyone at our table felt the same. We will never go back!
