Just loved this place Soo much... The desserts always a go to here because of the amazing food and options they give ❤️

Fondue restaurant. Am I supposed to know when the oil is the proper temperature and how to adjust things so it stays at the right temperature? Put food in oil, coatings start to look burned almost right away. Steak is burnt very quickly. New pot of oil comes out but now it's 15 minutes before food even starts to cook. They are open until 10. At 8:30 we're told they threw out the sweet and unsweet tea, which is what half our party is drinking. Wait staff was very pleasant but went way too long between each check in. They used to describe things as they went, tell you what's being added to the cheese fondue for example or just what each of the "signature sauces" is. We got none of that without asking. Half of our entre was wasted. Not comfortable eating chicken or shrimp (or steak plated next to chicken) if I can't be sure it's cooked. Bourbon steak seemed bathed in salt. Over priced, takes way to long to get through a meal and entree (and Caesar salad) were average at best. If you go. Plan for 90 to 120 minutes and just go with cheese fondue then chocolate. Entire meal will be three hours.

We have been going to this Melting pot as family for many years and regular customers. We do not wait for the occasion because that doesn't come often. The Garden pot is the only food we order, served with a lot of vegetables. Starters - Fruit and veggies and breads and Cheese Fondue. Add Salad - Caesar salad with extra Pine nuts are best. Main Course - Vegetables that you can cook in the court bouillon. They serve variety of vegetables and can also substitute to your liking. E.g. we like More mushrooms and less asparagus. Green Goddess Sauce is out of the world that goes with most vegetables. Chocolate desserts are great too! Can't wait for our next visit.

We had Terry as our server, he was absolutely amazing. My husband had never been and Terry was very patient while he had questions. He was very respectful of our space and always announced himself as he came to the Lovers Lane booth. My husband was skeptical, but absolutely loved the experience.. that means more visits for me!!

We visited this week for a special date night and weren't very impressed. Right after we placed our order, we learned that this was also restaurant week and there was a special deal going on. We realized that our order matched the restaurant week special except for one salad and one entree selection. When we got the cheese fondue, we asked our server if we could switch the order so that we could do the restaurant week special. He said he'd check with a manager but came back and said that wasn't possible. I felt that was ridiculous that the order couldn't be changed so early in the process and it really felt like a money grab. Additionally, our service was incredibly slow and we had to flag people down several times to ask just for water refills. The smores chocolate fondue had a VERY strong alcohol taste that we didn't really like. Otherwise, the food we got was fine.

Agree with other comments that this chain is over priced. Also agree that it’s an alright time for cheese and desserts. Those are the only ones that are kinda fun and tasty. The main meals can be a pain depending on which you get. The one I got i don’t remember the name but we were just basically deep frying at the table and it was a lil scary- the heat may have been too high to start. Our server was helping us out a little and giving some tips, as my friend with me had not been to one before (and it’d been a few years for me). I think the burner might’ve been a lil too high- some instructions on lowering the heat (although it’s fairly intuitive) would’ve been nice- my guest was a lil hesitant. A lil more forward help from the wait staff to make it less weird would’ve helped. The food was alright (no issue, I realize it’s a chain so idk how much flexibility they have in that anyway) Some was blandish. The dessert really ought to have more fruits or nicer stuff to dip (something nicer than a marshmallow and rice crispy lol). We did the flaming turtle thing and is a lil corny/gimmicky. Maybe the staff could use some training to come off more confident and to make it a look lil more elegant - but mine seemed a bit nervous which made me nervous lol. As for atmosphere this place needs some renovation, idk how old this restaurant is but some of the booths really ought to be closed off, ours was super sunk in and the plastic was super cracked. Cracks and smudges on walls, etc, this place just needs a lil love, it really is looking kinda old and run down.

Overpriced and understaffed. Be prepared to spend 2-4 hours doing dinner if you come here. We had a reservation for 6 and didn't leave until 9. Our server was nice but wasn't around to switch us to our next course or check on us enough. The food was alright but overpriced for what you got, and the meat/veggie prices were all way too large to cook in a timely fashion, so you had to wait around 5 min between each bit. Wouldn't recommend this place for anything other than just cheese or just dessert, and even that would be incredibly pricey. We got 2 of their complete experience for 2 for 5 people and had plenty of food but it was $300 including tip. I would suggest getting hot pot or Korean barbecue if you want to go somewhere that you get to cook you food yourself over this place.

This was our first and last time at the Melting Pot (Durham). I made a reservation for my daughters 18th birthday, because this was where she wanted to go . Not only did I notate the occasion in the reservation, I also told the hostess as well as our server. We heard two other parties celebrating birthdays while we were there and our server never acknowledged my daughters birthday. The dining experience took 3 1/2 hours for four of us and we found ourselves waiting for long periods of time in between the four courses. The restaurant was not crowded at all so it never should have taken this amount of time. Additionally, for the price you pay, the food is not that great. So disappointing, especially for a special occasion! Finally, the restaurant desperately needs updating. We will not be going back!

What a night! Perfect anniversary celebration down to the details with the Ultimate 5 Course Expereince. Food was great, as usual, drinks were amazing and Jeff... He was the Man! Best server I have had there and made the experience memorable. Looking forward to having that experience again.

My boyfriend and I came here for the first time on our birthday. It was a wonderful experience. We plan on going once a month from now on to treat ourselves. All of the staff was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. It is an experience that almost can't be explained.....just go!

I posted a very bad review 2 weeks ago because frankly it was warranted. But we decided to come back and give it another try, but only because the manager gave us a $100 gift certificate for our horrible experience. We were so worried it would be another bad experience. But it was like night and day. This time our sever, Terry, was wonderful and attentive. Our drinks and food came quickly and were delicious. I'm sorry I didn't get the waiter's name from 2 weeks ago because we saw him in the restaurant again this time. Hopefully he has received more training so nobody has to go through the truly terrible service and food we received last time. This location has redeemed itself. Glad we gave it another try.

My husband took me here for my birthday and we had a wonderful experience. Everyone was so kind and made my birthday feel really special :) The food was all amazing and I loved the atmosphere here. The booths have high walls so it felt very private and lovely. The highlight of our visit was our server, Nina. She really made our night. She was friendly and attentive, and most importantly, she took my food allergies very seriously. I don't think I've ever felt this comfortable eating out at a restaurant. I can't thank her enough for making what can sometimes be a stressful experience just a really comfortable and memorable one. We'll definitely be back soon!

Had a super confusing and odd experience tonight. I booked ahead of time and put our reason for coming as Oktoberfest, we were also here to celebrate an award I had won. When we got there we received no indication that Oktoberfest was even going on? We didn’t get a menu for it and were never explained anything about it. We asked for a few extra minutes prior to drink orders for our family member to get back to the table but then our server disappeared for around fifteen minutes. The restaurant was empty basically which makes this even more strange? We told the server we would like the Oktoberfest meal, he never asked for any of the rest of our order, and barely even talked to us. I asked if my husband and I could get extra of anything that was vegetarian instead of the meat dippers because we don’t eat meat and he didn’t seem to understand. I tried to explain differently and he still was confused, I’m not sure what the miscommunication was. When our cheese did come, it was only a two person portion. We have always had two pots of cheese if it was more than two people, there were five of us with only one pot of cheese. We also were seated at a two burner table. The water in the bottom of the pot had been cooked off by the time the cheese arrived, so the cheese never cooked, nor did the garlic. The server left the table with cold unmixed fondue because the cheese didn’t melt. We ended up leaving because at that point it had been an hour without any cooked food… Very odd experience, I felt awkward and uncomfortable the entire time and I’ve never had this happen here before.

Maybe we hit this place on an extremely bad night, but this is the WORST service and food I have ever experienced. I would give it a 0 if I could. We had a good experience here several years ago, but this time was atrocious. When the waiter finally came to take drink orders, he did not give us the usual friendly welcome or tell us anything about the menu or Octoberfest. In fact he hardly spoke to us at all. He disappeared for a bit before bringing us our drinks. Then he disappeared for over half an hour. The place was resoundingly empty so there was no reason to be kept waiting so long. He had a hard time understanding vegetarian requests and never asked us for our 2nd course salad orders. When he FINALLY returned, he brought only cheese for 1 pot and a small amount of dippers for our table of 5. The poor fellow attempted to warm up the cheese in our pot; unfortunately for him, the pot had been giving us a steam bath for 45 minutes and had run out of water. This poor guy continued to stir and stir and then left us with cold cheese and lukewarm dippers. We were here for 2 family celebrations. At this point the whole experience was ruined and we asked for a manager. We wanted to pay for our drinks and leave. She gave us the drinks and a $100 gift certificate in compensation, but at this point, all 5 of us were frustrated and hungry and it will be awhile before we venture to try this place again. The silver lining is we went next door to Asian Kitchen which was excellent.

We went for my birthday, great place to celebrate a special occasion. Our server was was kind and attentive. We did the 4 course fondue and each had 2 drinks. It doesn't sound like a lot of food or look like a lot, but we were stuffed. It's a place you should try at least once. My only complaint is that the cooking station is not user friendly when you have 1 vegetarian and 1 meat eater dining together, we work around it though. Since it's a little bit of a hassle I'm only able to get my boyfriend to go once a year or so.

Not sure why the reviews listed here are so old, nor why TMP isn't listed higher among Durham restaurants. Our party of 6 reserved on OpenTable a few days in advance, and we were seated quickly with no wait for a Monday dinner in a mostly empty restaurant. I hadn't been to TMP in at least 8 or so years, and the location had changed from its previous location across from the Southpoint Mall. IDK when they moved, but the new location is much more spacious, and booths for 2 as well as larger tables for 6+ have enclosures now, so that's kinda cool. Gotta say, the options and combinations and such of all the food that's available at TMP now can be a little overwhelming ... it's not nearly as straightforward as it was years ago. There are more ways to structure your meal, and more options for types of foods and fondues and add-ons, than ever before. It's definitely pricey though, and best reserved for special occasions. We had 3 courses, opting to skip the salad and I'm glad we did, as we could barely move by the time we left. I'd warned my guests they'd be in a food coma when they left and we were! I felt bad for leaving so many dippers for the cheese course uneaten (mostly bread), but everyone wanted to make it to dessert. Our server was excellent, all our food was top-notch and the experience reminded me of why I liked going to TMP years ago. I plan to go back for just cheese again soon. We spent about $45 per person, no alcoholic drinks, and tipped $50. We all felt like we got our money's worth. :)

This is the best place to take your special someone for something out of the norm. The food is incredible and they even do little special things for you too. My wife and I came here for our anniversary … again. The drinks are good and it is a nice quiet atmosphere with small private booths as well as larger ones as well. I believe the reason it is so quiet is that everyone is to busy eating to talk. It may be on the high side for a meal but, just remember you get what you pay for and you will not go home hungry still. Normally we go to Raleigh location but there were no reservations available. Glad we got experience Durham location. All staff were friendly. They were short handed with only 2 servers and the hostess, bar staff , and management all worked together to help make sure all tables were taken care of. They all were quick to refill drinks, bring each course out, and clear table. This location is way bigger than Raleigh location. Has large party room area, couple smaller party area, several open tables that have 2 burners, and little tables perfect for date night for 2 that have curtain can close. Coffee MP drink from from bar was very delicious. Durham location use to be across street near mall and new location is nicer. Highly recommend this location. Always love coming to a melting pot but a first time at this location. The reservation system is nice and convenient, and I noted that we were celebrating a birthday. We went for Valentine's date night and ate from the regular menu. It was very busy but it seemed like they were moving tables at a fair speed. I've always wanted to come to a melting pot since I was a little kid, and I finally decided to give it a try after seeing this location listed on the trirestaurantweek website. There was no special menu or discounted price from the triangle restaurant week, so that was a little misleading. The food was very good. Overall though, it seems The Melting Pot lacks innovation. They offer a unique experience, but my guess is that it hasn't been updated since it was founded. No real choice for appetizers other than the cheese fondue. There os only one cooking option really provided per table, which is really limiting for the uniqueness of the experience and for the various preferences members in a group might have. We had a nice time but have no real reason to return any time soon. The excessively bright lighting, and openness of the tables and location, really takes away from the intimate dining experience that one used to have at the previous Durham location. I get that apparently Melting Pot is trying to be a hipster bar location, but there should be some consideration to people that still enjoy that intimate dining experience which we will clearly not be getting at Melting Pot Durham anymore and it's sad. For that reason, we will most likely not be returning to this location.
