Wanted one last coastal meal before heading home. Decided on Obstinate Daughter. We had the chowder and salad (HUGE) then got the clam pizza and peel and eat shrimp. All delicious! And we were able to sit outside…umbrellas and fans made it very pleasant.

Food and waitress were great. Hostesses, bar tenders, other workers were very dismissive, standoffish, and seemed so bothered by my family’s presence. We were very disappointed because we were celebrating my engagement and did not get the warm and fuzzies from anyone except the waitress. I would expect more friendly service from a highly rated restaurant.

The food is fine. It certainly does not deserve all the hype. Some how it became the cool, trendy spot. Its overrated.

Best food we ate in Charleston, hands down. This may be one of my favorite restaurants. I was blown away by every dish we tried. We started with the Farro Piccolo (brussels sprouts), those were to die for, definitely order them. I ordered the The Old Danger Pizza, after the waitress recommended it to me, I couldn’t believe how good it was. It’s practically a carbonara pasta on a pizza - so good. My wife got the Radiatore pasta, it was so so good. Make this place a priority if you’re ever nearby.

This is a must for anyone visiting Charleston and for locals. The freshest local greens salad you'll ever eat. Their Ricotta Gnocchi with a short rib ragu is the dish to get when you're there.

As long time patrons this has never happened before. The Bar Tender Franky ruined the moment. His adversarial obnoxious confrontational approach to customer service was a complete turn off. Had a drink didn’t stay for dinner and won’t return for quite awhile.

I'm not sure if the average person scrolling reviews will appreciate this, but OD is a very very well-run restaurant. I sat at the bar and loved watching the service. Good work yall! The food was SO good - I left a changed woman. I entered OD not liking swordfish, but left repeating to anyone who'd listen that I'd just had the best fish of my life. We also tried the Farro and Chicken which was a salty explosion of textures (in a good way). I could eat that near daily. We also tried the frogmore chowder and for some reason, we expected something different, but for the record, it's actually chowder (the creamy kind). It was fine, but wouldn't order it again. I'm not really a chowder gal.

My friend and I had gone here for a weekday lunch. We had been told about this place by MANY people and I’m genuinely so happy we went. First; the entire atmosphere is absolutely adorable! I can imagine this place thriving for an event/rental, but not sure if they do that. The bar is quite large in my opinion for the quaint space, but it didn’t take away from the scene. Since we went for lunch we didn’t explore the cocktails or wine list. Our server was somewhat attentive. He honestly gave my friend and I weird vibes, as if we knew him already and he was treating us as that way. Like he actually hit my friend on back with a menu…not hard by any means, and we weren’t offended but it was just ODD. I personally prefer a server that is like a ninja, they do all the things you need and you hardly notice them. The food though, was so good! We shared all plates. Gnocchi short rib and the shrimp roll. They were totally different, but both were obviously made with love and homemade. The shrimp roll though…drooling! The bread was so soft and the shrimp was fresh and flavorful. No dessert, we were stuffed. I’m excited to return, next time for dinner!

I think the food was good but not spectacular. I've had far better pasta in many other Italian restaurants. It was a good meal, but not a great meal. Nothing stood out as unique or really being above the bar I would typically hold for these kinds of dishes. The atmosphere was odd with an eclectic design style that didn't seem to have a unifying element. Overall it didn't hold up to the price point the dishes were set at and I think you can have a better meal elsewhere for the same price

For a while I’ve been wanting to try this restaurant and was finally able to get a reservation. I had high expectations especially after reading the reviews and also that it is a sister restaurant to Wild Olive which is fantastic. Needless to say I was disappointed. The atmosphere itself was nice but there is very limited parking. We started with the Lowcountry Frites as an appetizer..they were OK nothing special and super salty. I am GF so there was only a limited amount of things I could choose from and no pizza. I decided on the Sworsfish as my main meal. As soon as it was brought to the table I could smell how fishy it was. Super overcooked and again extremely salty. I should have spoken up and told the waiter but forced myself to eat. My boyfriend decided on the Gnocchi. He said they were just OK again, the gnocchi themselves were good but he wasn’t a fan of the sauce. We opted to not get dessert. I don’t think we will ever go back.

I would give a 5 star for everything until I found a really small dead fly drenched in oil on the pizza, I couldn't believe it at first until I saw its little wings. I rather believe this is an accident so I didn't make a fuss. Then I have noticed there are 2 flies resting on the window curtain where we sat. So, hygiene concerned.

This is the perfect spot for a couple or a group or a family or anybody really. Went with my girlfriend and we started with the Farro Piccolo which was insane. So good. More than enough for us to share but probably could feed 3. For our mains we shared the Ricotta Gnocchi and The Moultrie. The gnocchi was perfectly made, the short rib on it was like a 8/10 in my opinion but still great. The pizza dish was so good, the crust was delicious. This was more than enough for 2 people, we both finished very full. For dessert we shared the mousse duo dish. Again, so good. I'd recommend this place to anyone. We went at 930 pm because we made reservations the same day and that's all that was available, and I usually hate being the last seating at a place because sometimes you can feel the staff wanting you to wrap it up. Didn't feel that way at all, very good vibe, really friendly staff. Would go back again if Charleston wasn't so full of other wonderful places to try!

This place came highly recommended by friends who live in the area so we were excited to try it when we came in town. Our server was great and the place is super cute. We were highly disappointed by the Fusilli! It was wildly overly priced for what was served. It was essentially buttered noodles with four shrimp. The butter was infused with jalapeño and that was the only creative aspect. It was bland and underwhelming at best. For $29 there should have been much more. That being said, the pizzas and salads we ordered were incredible, so people must be ordering those. It wasn’t a bad experience, just complete confusion as to why that was the most expensive pasta dish on the menu.

Worth the wait! Decided to check this place out while in town for work based on co-workers suggestions. Parking is limited but I was able to find street parking even on a Saturday evening in the summer. I was warned there is often a wait but the hostess will take your cell and text when your table is ready so you can walk around. I sat at the bar which, even though was busy, did not feel overly crowded or impersonal. The Brussel sprout farro dish was amazing— great portion size, amazing textures and flavors. Their King’s Honey Cocktail was light and refreshing. The staff was attentive and people at the bar were happy to chat, many were returning guests. I would love to come back and try the short rib gnocchi.

The food was quite decent. We ordered three different types of pizzas, a salad, a short rib pasta, and a few beers. The food quality was really good, and our bill came to $170. However, there were some issues that impacted our experience. First, the wait time was quite long (45 min). We were sat outside by the ice cream shop so we got to enjoy the beautiful weather. The service was just okay, with notable periods when our server was absent, and we needed refills on drinks and water. Additionally, I found a small hair in my food, which I pointed out to the food runner, but no one addressed it afterward and I was charged for it. The food was never compensated, which is why I’m giving three stars. The food was delicious, but the hair was definitely an issue.

Came here for dinner with my boyfriend and was a bit disappointed. The food we had was good but was explained to us as “family style” so we expected to be able to order two plates and share it between us and be satisfied. I don’t mind paying higher prices but at the prices you pay, I expect to be able to walk out satisfied. At 80 dollars for two people I hated paying that much and still be hungry and the food be okay. I kind of feel like I ate really fancy pub food and we left still hungry. I did like my cocktail but I do think they overshot on the marketing. We had the swordfish and shrimp.

The Obstinate Daughter comes HIGHLY regarded; both by word of mouth and on many Facebook groups. People simply rave about this place, which can be a blessing and a curse. My expectations based off all I had heard may have been unrealistically high. Our food was excellent, without a doubt, but so are many places in Charleston. We got the brussel sprouts and polenta frites to start. We loved the sprouts but felt like the ratio of pine nut topping to brussel sprouts was a bit off. We didn’t get many actual sprouts but had lots and lots of pine nuts (that were great on their own to be fair). We got the veal and the short rib gnocchi - both delicious. Will I come back? Absolutely. Will I deem it the very best restaurant in the greater Charleston area… probably not (yet!).

This is my third time frequenting OD. Our first visit was probably 10 years ago and was creative and excellent. This final experience was disappointing. The waiter was indifferent and seemed bored with the menu and by the very fact that we were there. At the end of our meal we waited patiently for our check for about 15-20 minutes. Finally my friend got up to look for the waiter and found him chatting it up with his co-workers at the hostess stand. The pizza and salad were good, the salad had excellent fresh produce. The watermelon radishes were a nice touch. The dressing was a nice fresh buttermilk dressing but they used way too much dressing. The salad was so weighed down and limp from the sheer volume of dressing. The fennel sausage ragu was meh...ok, never tasted the fennel at all. The pasta was clearly not fresh and very under cooked. For 28 dollars a plate you should be serving a fresh pasta. My friend's dish was the pasta with vodka sauce. It tasted like something off the kids menu, sticky and uninspired. There are so many inventive restaurants in Charleston I can't say I would waste my time or money on this one again.

One of my top favorite restaurants in the Charleston area by far! Can’t wait to come back!

this place is overrated and overpriced. The restaurant itself is pretty but I don’t think the craze is worth it. I didn’t have a bad experience but it wasn’t anything amazing

My in laws love this restaurant and they are there several times a year and they live in NC. So you can tell just how much they love the restaurant. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and is very lively. The only thing that I can say is I wish they had steak, but then again it is the beach and it’s all about seafood. You must try this restaurant. Also, they do have some strange meals on the menu that don’t sound like they would go together but when you try it the food is really good.

Some of the best gnocchi we have had and Jesse our server was wonderful. She was very helpful with our wine selection. Highly recommend.

That was awful. The pasta tastes like craft Mac n cheese. The bean purée was disgusting. Pizza tasted like fish but there was no fish on it? can’t even make a good mimosa it’s literally orange juice and Prosecco. How do you mess that up?

Forgot the name of our server today, but he is absolutely fantastic. Attentive to our table and recommend great dishes. The girl upstairs that took me to our table was not as nice though, but it may be because the busy memorial weekend.

Fantastic restaurant! If you want to try the place but can't get a reservation, go mid afternoon when they only have their pizza menu is available(3pm-4pm). Then stay until their dinner menu opens (4pm) and order hand pulled noddles. Try their Gelato for dessert!

Some of the best food we ate while visiting Charleston! So good we made it a point to go back a second time for lunch before we headed back home. Great service by Nick! The ricotta gnocchi was phenomenal! The gnocchi was soft and pillowy and compliments the hearty short rib ragú perfectly! The pine nuts are a great touch for texture. Wish there were just 3 or 4 more gnocchi to balance the ratio of pasta to meat. The radiatore pasta dish is their version of Carbone’s rigatoni a la vodka.. but better! Creamy, perfectly cooked homemade pasta that the sauce nestles in every crevice, with a touch of heat. The clam pizza was perfectly paired with chopped rapini, chili flakes, garlic, and the lemon was a perfect touch! Perhaps the best part was their gelato. The olive oil sea salt flavor is a revelation! Mind blown!

A friend dined here a few weeks ago and she would not stop raving about it so my friend and I decided to check it out while we were in town. It was a weekday and we arrived around 4:30 p.m. Parking is extremely limited but we lucked out and snagged a spot next to the tree. The reception staff was polite and courteous. Jess, our server was on the rude side---the next time we come back, because the food is pretty darn good, we're either sitting at the bar or outside. We each had a bowl of frogmore chowder---fantastic flavor with just the right amount of creaminess, spice, and a rather surprising good amount of shrimp. Two thumbs up to the chef who made this from scratch and to order. The curry, shrimp kabob was delicious. The cheeky monkey pizza was good, not great. I won't order it again. I will opt for the Rutledge or Moultrie instead. The atmosphere on the second floor was good, the AC was kicking, the bar and tables were clean, and the O/D candle in the bathroom smelled amazing. If it wasn't for our server's lousy etiquette, I would give this review a 5 star.

What a beautiful and delicious restaurant! The atmosphere and decor is so on point for Sullivans island. We went on a busy day but we were able to snag seats at the bar. The food is delish and well crafted! The cocktails were also very good! Our server at the bar was nice and attentive. The restaurant itself is decorated beautifully and has some of the nicest staff I’ve encountered! The Ricotta Gnocchi was soooo good! And the on draft cocktail was surprisingly good! This is a great place for an upscale date!

SO delicious! We didn’t have a reservation (2 people) but went a little earlier and got seated immediately for dinner. We split the rutledge pizza, radiatore pasta, and the swordfish—so so good! We also split the burnt sugar cake—it was like an upscale pound cake or strawberry shortcake. It was so good and refreshing after a heavy meal.
