*VEGAN REVIEWTIME EXPRESS HIGHWAY 5000* Came here after the Jazz Fest feeling desperate for food and this had the best vegan reviews in the downtown Detroit area. First off, just gotta appreciate a place with a dedicated vegan menu. That’s a beautiful thing and we love to see it. Hey world! Do this more! Sadly, despite the existence of a lovely, dedicated vegan menu, our food sucked. We ordered the Beyond Super Nacho Time or whatever it’s called and we were off to a bad start: they were out of the queso but they offered to substitute with vegan mozzarella. In our famished state we agreed to the substitution, however, we should’ve gotten something else. The nachos came out and they looked very good! Very colorful! The biggest problem is that they were completely cold. I was under the assumption that the mozzarella substitution would be melted or something. Instead it was cold, solid bits of cheese and cold, crumbled Beyond meat. Nachos gotta have some hot and nachos gotta have something cold. That’s the beauty and fun of nachos. They have every temperature, every flavor, and every texture. This is elementary nachoknowledge. Regardless, we were hungry as hell and had to eat them. Lastly, our service was absolutely jank. One of those situations in which it seemed the server was doing their best to avoid us. We waited a long time to get our order taken, to get our food, and to get our bill. It’s possible that the food was just off! We probably should’ve gotten something else off the menu when we found out they didn’t have the appropriate cheese! Maybe the server was having a big, dumb day? I hope that peace and love finds her heart and she gets to relax in a hot tub and cherubs come down and massage her temples… or something. Anyways! That’s how I feel about The Old Shillelagh!

Old Shillelagh is perfect spot for grabbing a hamburger and a beer. It's got that neighborhood bar feel. There's plenty of TV screens with sports. The food is very good and the service is exceptional. Shout out to Cat who provided outstanding service.

Went to this place after Super Bowl XL in Detroit. What a classic dive bar! Good food, outstanding service. One of the highlights of the trip.

They don’t tell you that they charge automatic gratuity now, so on top of my already generous 30% tip they got extra. Very shady and scummy of the bartenders (who didn’t even get our drinks correct, we realized later). This place used to be a fave of mine but definitely won’t be back, it’s gone downhill the past couple years and isn’t really worth the cost or hassle anymore.

We came here with local friends who remembered this place like it used to be. Seems to have gone downhill since COVID. We had a good time but there are too many other options around to return.

Exuberant prices on food (and parking). Underwhelming location, atmosphere. Bottom shelf alcohol selection and food was near fast food quality. Staff was professional atleast. My review would be more accommodating if the prices were proper, but save yourself and your wallet the trip.

Went into have a beer and hang out. Beers were good. Female bartender looked less than enthusiastic with us. Male bartenders, cool, had energy, talking with people.

Great spot to get out of the heat and have a nice cold Guinness.

Many draft beers to choose from. Fun bar. Close to Ford field, tiger stadium and little Ceasars arena. Always stop in here when we are in the area.

Got the vegan Buffalo chickn wrap. Pretty good sandwich 🥪 you'll get a bag of chips on the side. Staff were friendly like family.

I'm visiting Detroit for work and have a short list of places I can eat as a vegan. After a google map search, I saw that this bar had vegan options, so I decided to give it a shot. It was pretty empty when I arrived so I was greeted and sat immediately. Told the waitress I was vegan, and she let me know that the items on the menu marked with a star (*) were able to be made vegan, so I ordered the reuben with fries. It was HUUUGE, with a good amount of fries. It was great! The jackfruit was a bit too "vinagery" for my personal taste, but as long as I got a bit of everything in one bite, I couldn't taste it too much. Make sure you ask for plenty of napkins cause it's also a bit messy to eat.. My server was nice and the music was great.

Awesome place had allot of fun. We stopped in for a beer ended up stay a couple hours, but beware they already add a 15% tip to your bill which is fine but they should make customers aware of that. They have a little sign off in the counter not really noticeable

Food is always great even the pretzels at bar time are good. Service is always a little slow but other than that it's a good place to dine or have fun.

My family hosted a Sunday brunch at the Old Shillelagh after our daughter’s wedding Saturday night. We had no idea how many might show up. It turned out being around 80 people. Shellie, the owner, was extremely helpful in figuring out a menu and how to handle being ready for whatever number shows up. The food was delicious from egg scrambles to shepherds pie. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They really hustled to get everyone served in a timely manner. It was such a beautiful space upstairs on the second floor. The perfect landing space to gather and share stories about the wedding with warm food and a cold Guinness. True Irish hospitality! I highly recommend!

Fun place but really, really shady bartenders. I gracefully asked a bartender to cut off a person who was so drunk and falling out of his chair and being held up by his so-called friends, and was buying shots for everyone who was near. When I pointed to her to some of my friends, she walked out from behind the counter to confront me. Where I stood repeating myself to her and the bouncer. But hey. Whatever helps her sleep at night

Go here if you like paying 13.30 for a Guinness and a diet coke

I never would have guessed that I would find vegan options (basically almost all the menu can be done as a vegan option) in an irish pub so I was nicely surprised. The staff was really nice and the place quite big. We were almost alone when visiting but I can imagine it more lively on the WE. The food is junk food style so don’t expect anything crazy but it’s good! The only thing I did not like is that they serve drinks in plastic cups :/

Greek Town staple that is always a great time, especially in the summer months with three floors of entertainment and rooftop patio bar so there's never a wait no matter how busy they get.

We loved our visit to The Old Shillelagh! We visited at lunch and it’s a great pub. We had the Shillelagh burger and the Reuben. The burger was moist and cooked perfectly. The cheese was perfectly melted and all the toppings were crisp and fresh. The Reuben was stacked and so tasty. The fries were perfectly crispy. The service was fast, friendly and attentive. Also, bought a hoodie and the prices were so reasonable.

Service sucked and they automatically added a tip on the bill. Will be the last time I go there

I had dinner here for the first time in a long time and John was our waiter and that guy was incredible. Wicked sense of humor super kind and just took such good care of us that I will come back and ask for him by name for the rest of time. Guy is an absolute diamond in the rough and a hell of a trivia guy. Made my visit here amazing!

Tried the shepherds pie and it was horrible, the bar is small and they played Spanish music nonstop at a Irish Pub for some reason.

Still my favorite bar in Detroit. I make sure to stop in every time I'm in town. Keep it up!

I was here the day before St Patrick’s day and I understand it’s packed and everyone makes mistakes but I noticed duplicate charges to my credit card that I had to get resolved. I’d watch out for that.

Ordered two cornbeef sandwiches and they were burnt with no chips! McShane's is much better if they weren't closed at the time I would've spent my money there instead of trying something new here.

The Old Shillelagh was never really a place I associated or thought of as a place to go eat. It was more of a place that you would go to drink before an event and just order some food. That was, until now. I work downtown and my co-workers and I are always looking for different place to try at lunch. Today I suggested we try this place b/c awhile back I spoke with the manager or I think could have been owners daughter because she mentioned the place had been in her family for years. When I asked her about the food she was mentioned how they use local ingredients and even the chicken they use is Amish chicken. After that conversation I knew I wanted to come back and try it . Well, it took a while but I am glad I finally did because the Spicy Jalapeno Burger I got was by far the best one I have had in Detroit. Yes even better than Basement Burger Bar (IMO) My co-worker and I sat at the bar. There were not many people in there but our bartender Danielle was fantastic. The prices are reasonable and competitive compared to all the other lunch places in the area. If you were like me and just thought of this place to go drink, think again and do yourself a favor and check it out if you are looking for a good Burger and Fries I promise you will not be disappointed. . I can't recommend any other food YET because this is the only thing I have tried but, I know I will be back to check out other items and will be sure to review.

Loved this little bar. We went down to Greektown, and stopped here before going to the casino. They had good food and the waiters were nice. A little on the expensive side. But overall it was pretty good. We had a good experience. I would like to come back some day.

Awesome experience here. I over payed cover on accident and the door guys literally walked through the bar to give me my money back. Great guys. Bartenders were very nice. One of them let me touch his hair. DID NOT disappoint. Coors light was a tad pricey but I did not even care at all. Dance floor was bumpin. Red wings won in OT.

Absolutely horrible. I got asked to leave because I picked up a garbage can for my friend to throw up in. God forbid I help the business keep their establishment clean. Horrible ownership and just awful employees. Never go there if you have the option.

Excellent place to gather prior to an event downtown. Welcoming to all, even allow minors in prior to events. Have been coming over 20 years for atmosphere and now can add that the food is above average bar food as well! Definitely recommend.

We came in for our last stop of the night on Thanksgiving weekend. I was in from out of state visiting friends, and we were told this was our buddies favorite bar! I should preface by saying, my friend is a disabled police officer we had his service animal with us. It was not busy that evening at all so having the dog there wasn’t a problem or challenge. Our friends chose to leave a little early so we stepped outside to say goodbye to them because they had the dog and the wheelchair and the bar itself is a bit tight for hugs and goodbyes etc. we explained that my fiancé and I were coming back in after saying goodbye to our friend who could only use one exit because the building is not very handicap accessible. The bouncer took our drinks and set them on the ledge. I thanked him, because I assumed I’d come back in and collect my newly purchased drinks. When we attempted to re-enter, we were sent around to the front door, which was fine. But when we came back to that bouncer however, our drinks had been thrown away. Not only was he completely rude and dismissive, but when questioned about where my drinks went, refused to make eye contact with me, and started talking to the person next to me, as if I wasn’t even there. I’ve never been treated so rudely at an establishment, and it was incredibly disappointing because it was our friends “favorite bar” Seems as though they need a little etiquette training on not only how to properly talk to a human, but how to properly handle interacting with the disabled community. It was my first time in this bar, and it was also my last

This is not the dive bar that it was in the late '90s. There was $20 cover-charge. Miller Lites were $7.25 per can. There was a restroom concierge to put soap in your hands and hand you paper towels in the men's room...

Atmosphere was great, Great prices on the drinks and food! Whatever bouncer was working on last Saturday the 2nd of December with the diamond earrings taking cover was unacceptable will change to 5 stars if notified of even a conversation with him

Nice little neighborhood Irish bar. I went in on a Monday night and everyone was playing jeopardy together so it’s definitely got that neighborhood locals vibe. The service was prompt and the food came out quickly. I ordered the Ruben rolls and they were delicious. I’ll likely be back once more before I leave town.

Here for a 2 night metallica concert, the staff was fantastic! We visited multiple times this weekend and will come back anytime we are in town!

The Guinness pour is quality, that’s about it. Had the buffalo chicken wrap but I didn’t find it appetizing at all. Not enough chicken and the vinegar was potent af. Service sucked. I got more attention at my table from the bouncer than my server. Wish I had cash would have tipped the bouncer. NOTHING was Irish about this place but the pathetic need to fit into Irish culture with the decor, Oh well… 🤷🏼‍♂️

Love this bar! Nothing better than coming here before a Lions game. I currently live in Chicago and ordered some clothes. Got the wrong size and they sent me another shirt on the house. Love the quality of service!
