This bar is incredible. The folks that run it do it all themselves. The food is some of the best I've had in the city, and the drinks are second to none. 11 out of 5 stars.

Holy cow this place is such a hidden gem. Happy hour is unrivaled, crispy tofu bowl was insanely good, bomb tempura kimchi (marry me), plus a back patio that is epic with multiple levels. All around fantastic place! Super friendly tenders and an art market out back! Woo! Love you! Sorry I didn’t take any pics I ate too fast.

Great people and accommodated my entire team for food drinks and corn hole. We did drink them out of PBR...but the next night they were ready.

Mark, Matt, Trent are the 3 owners and masters of hospitality, creativity, and nerdery. They make this such a welcoming neighborhood place, an oasis in the Portland gruff bartender scene. As a cocktail fan, I've loved watching this place's drink menu evolve. It's progressive without pretension. The nerd references in the drink names and descriptions are a blast. I like to think the owners are ambassadors for hooking more people on obscure liquors by using Star Trek and GoT references. Start your night with a Worf spicy marg. Then digest with a Going Merry white negroni. End with a Ramen Shot, why not? Don't forget to try the Starfleet bottle, Shaku's offering for anybody to taste top shelf spirits at cost. As for food, how have I lived all my life without tempura kimchi? It's also a part of Shaku's house burger, which is a banger. Best bar in the quadrant. Live long and liquor up.

Tastiest bar food in Portland! We got the Katsu Sando which was gigantic and had the best slaw ever. The vegan rice bowl was delicious according to the wife, the jackfruit tacos were melt in your mouth yum with the perfect amount of spicey, and she likes it hot!. Smash burger was bomb! and a chicken rice bowl for our pickiest who ate more than normal. Drinks are on point too!!! Update- It's been a couple of years but we were back in Portland and it's still the best food EVER! Drinks were way too smooth, but that's to be expected with who's pouring them.

The best bar we’ve been to in Oregon. Their service stood out the most to us. Service often is a make or break and can ruin a customers experience but they nailed every single aspect. Very attentive, knowledgable, and quick service. This place genuinely puts their heart into their food and drink flavors. They damn well know how to make a great burger and definitely can make any drink your heart desires. Some of our “regular” go to drinks they didn’t have but the best part is, they know how to care towards your needs did not say “no we don’t have that” and always came back with either something better or just as good for your liking. Atmosphere is uplifting and vibes are great because a lot of their customers you can tell looooove being regulars and it shows and we can definitely see why. We tried their “Shaku Burger”, wings, garlic friend edamame, and furikake fries! Must try if you’re ever visiting or live in Oregon. It was so good we went twice in one trip just because we enjoy it so dang much!!

Now this one is going to be just a little bit Rose colored because I him real cool with the guys sit on the place and plan to be doing some business with them as well as calling them truly friends. Those guys respectfully impatiently waited 2 years for me to deal with some personal things with me and my family and my relocation to still welcome me back every time with smiles and open arms and coming up here soon you will be seeing some things that I will be collaborating with them on and I'm sure that you guys are going to love!!! This is going to be the first of many many Summers to remember!!! (Stay tuned) But the drinks are awesome, the food is delightful and delicious. The atmosphere is chill, intimate and just the right amount of bright at the same time. The outside area is covered with quite stylishly designed covered patio space. It's something that has to be seen to be appreciated so here's your excuse to pick your head in,, I guarantee you want to stay and we know you'll be coming back. Drinks are extremely tasty and dangerous, food is delicious and reasonably priced. Definitely a go to spot for me and the friends. 10/10 💯

While they need a good interior design makeover, the owners are amazingly friendly, the food is delicious and their drink menu is extensive! Love this local spot!

I was greeted with friendly smiles right when I walked in. The place was full with guests that would be playing a drawing game in the next hour. Very cozy but not cramped. The drink menu is very creative. My partner and I tried a couple different types. I really liked something that had guava, even though I’m not typically a fan. We ordered a couple delicious smash burgers and garlic parmesan fries. The order came out fast and hot. The burger was a lot bigger than I was expecting and very juicy and flavorful. Whether you’re into Star Trek, Star Wars or Star-Lord, these guys are winning at creating a welcoming space for pop culture enthusiasts and nerds alike. I felt right at home. Also…There is a large outside seating area that I will definitely be taking advantage of this summer. All ages until 6 and happy hour from 4-6 and 2 hours before closing! And it’s right next to Chopsticks for karaoke afterwards! Thanks for the great time, guys!

Great atmosphere and welcoming staff

This place is a hidden gem!! Bar food taken to the next level. The tempura kimchi is absolutely amazing and they have the nicest bartenders working there. I love the covered patio and the atmosphere.

The Shaku Bar: A beautiful, low key bar with fantastic food and unique drinks. If you like great food, great drinks and a fun casual atmosphere, do not miss out on The Shaku Bar. Shaku is a hidden gem in an otherwise quiet part of NE Portland. Expect a warm, casual atmosphere, friendly service and great food and drinks. Highlights include the Katsu Sando, Fried Kimchi, and tofu bites. Don't forget to ask about the Starfleet bottle on Wednesday; a featured fine spirit offered at a steep discount while the bottle lasts. If you are feeling adventurous inquire about the Katsu burger which is an off-menu item combining the shaku burger and katsu sando into an epicure's delight. Shaku offers something for everyone, from the extensive bar and tap selection to the clever and delicious menu full of elevated casual food and original dishes.

The smashburger and fries were some of the best I've had in quite awhile. My friends and I tried multiple drinks while there. The standout by far are the seltzers they mix in front of you. Get the creamy melon seltzer you won't regret it.

Phenomenal cocktails, delicious food, and delightful service! We come to this place regularly thanks to their fun and extensive drink menu (the Golden Friendship might be my fave, but they also have great "0 proof" mocktails), Asian-fusion menu (the pork katsu sando is amazing and can be split), and the 3 guys who run it. The place has a low-key cool nerd vibe thanks to the cocktail names and light decor. They frequently have trivia and drink & draw nights, which are fun.

We had dinner and drinks at Shaku and loved everything. Cocktails were fun, and they made a great mocktail for our friend who doesn't drink alcohol. The Shaku burger was incredible - especially the kimchi tempura! Next time would get that as an app alone, it was that good. The katsu sando was also great. The pork katsu was massive - ended up taking home half for lunch the next day. Also had the chicken as an app and reg fries and the furikake fries.

I love this bar! My partner and I frequent this bar and we really enjoy everything about it. The drinks are fun and creative. The food is tasty! We definitely have favorites that we have to order every time (looking at you, crispy honey chili garlic chicken bites and tempura kimchi). The staff are all super friendly and just make the whole visit a great time.

Really, really surprised at how great the food and drinks were here. We popped in on a whim for some happy hour and were met with some of the tastiest chicken bites and garlic fries I’ve ever had. Great atmosphere as well. Can’t wait to try the rest of their menu.

This place is amazing, they make some of the best cocktails around, their burgers are extra delicious, and the owners always seem stoked to be there to bring their vision of a bar to anyone who walks in.
