Authentic Maine lobster rolls CT style with butter, or with mayo. Best I have had outside Maine.

As an owner of a food & bev business ourselves, I was underwhelmed with poor attitude and lack of awareness from what was presumably the owner or manager. She made a point to tell me I couldn’t bring in outside water that I had in a thermos for my 2 year old. Even though I bought 3 drinks for the adults in the group. Very little social understanding of children and their needs. Was not willing to help or make any special accommodations off the menu for food sensitivities so we made what was on the menu work. There are exceptional places to give business in Bluffton, and this place is not one of them. Based on the full “experience” we will never patronize this business again.

I never tries a lobster roll until now. Whoa! What a treat. Always need to stop when in Bluffton. Excellent lobster roll and sandwiches!

Best lobster roll I've ever had. I had tried 4 lobster rolls before this one, and I was ready to write them off, I did not like them, but my fiance persuaded me to give it one more go, and omg what a divine experience. My parents make a stop here every single time they come to visit for the lobster roll. The loaded potato salad is so good, too. I also like the raspberry cream cheese danishes and the flagels (flat bagel)

We love getting their breakfast sandwhiches when we are in town. Great service, awesome bagel egg and cheese sandwiches!

This place is a hidden gem set apart from the hustle of both 278 and the Promenade. We visited on a Tuesday morning at about 7:30, and there were only a few people. The prices are excellent, and the quality amazing! We had breakfast sandwiches on their amazing bagels. We also had a cheese Danish, which was lovely. We couldn't get enough of the bread, so I went back for an onion bialy---hands down my favorite! Next time I go, it will be for a lobster roll and a cinnamon bun!

Epic food! By the name you think of desert, but thats the side specialty (also amazing). The lobster roll is chunky and full of Maine lobster and oh so yummy! Also the chicken salad sandwich is amazing! Homemade taste :) Orders only took 5 minutes both times but tastes better than a sit down restaurant! Pecan cinnamon bun was also the best ive ever had and the pecans were very tasty :) its pricy but worth it, you would pay more or the same at a sit down but the food here is better and you are paying for high quality ingredients.

The bagels were amazing! Much better than many I’ve tried in the area. The staff made me laugh too!

Came in from a Local reference . . . WOW WOW WOW Lobster roll was ON POINT 100% We enjoyed this lunch more than many many meals we have had traveling. We also took some sweets out for later. All in all a GREAT place to stop. Enjoy it

Went to the Sugaree for the first time today. My husband had the lobster roll and absolutely loved it. Almost everyone in the restaurant had a lobster roll. I had an everything flagel with olive cream cheese. That was good as well. We will definitely be back

This place is amazing. If you are ever in the Bluffton area, please stop in. Their lobster rolls are some of the best rolls you can find in this area. The owners are super nice and personable. It’s a cute little restaurant right in the heart of downtown Bluffton. It truly captures small town feel with a big taste.

We got the pecan sticky roll and the maple bacon cronut!!! Wowsa. They have a crowd of people here for their pastries and Lobster Rolls. Those will be on our next visit. Worth making this a stop on your visit to the area. Owners are sweet and product is top quality. We will be back

Just picked up a lobster roll and it’s the worst lobster I’ve ever tasted…. I love Lobster however it tasted as if it was not covered in the refrigerator and picked all the taste of other things in the refrigerator.. I should have tasted before I left.. I am going to call right now to see if I can return for another sandwich. I hate to complain but I make seafood toast all the time and even I know if you don’t cover your refrigerated food it picks up all the other smells in the refrigerator….

One goes here for their incredible lobster rolls which did not disappoint. They were delicious. We both had one. Generous portion of Lobster on the warm toasted bun. What more could you ask for. Their other sandwiches and of course their pastries are alway excellent as well. I took some home for the family. Very fresh and delicious. Looking forward to going back soon.

Outstanding selection of home-baked pastries and bagels. Terrific lobster rolls. The coffee is a superb mild roast . Highly recommend.

They have the world’s best Lobster Rolls! All lobster and very little filling (if any)! The rolls are fantastic too. The atmosphere is cozy but not large! Hours are short but manageable. You can order the Lobster Roll early for pick up and they deconstruct it so it is not soggy when you get it home! This place is a must for a great time at little cost!

I don't typically take the time to write reviews but if anyone deserves a raving review it's The Sugaree. I moved to Bluffton about two years ago and was in search of a coffee & pastry location to frequent and stumbled upon The Sugaree. The coffee is phenomenal, the food is always delicious, and Jo and Todd are always attentive, kind, and simply good at what they do. I look for places that feel like home and I've found that in The Sugaree. Would recommend to anyone and everyone looking for something amazing in little ol' Bluffton. Note to the tourists who should definitely stop in here, be patient and be kind it's a big operation ran by two great people who deserve that grace.

I drive 50 miles just for the lobster roll. Yes there are other places and serve no side and are not near as good.. The sugaree is owned and operated by a family from Maine. And sides are included.

Being from New England I had to get the Maine Lobster 🦞 sandwich. Excellent!

The Lobster Roll and Potato salad are DELICIOUS! I'm originally from New England, and this lobster roll is among the best that I've ever eaten. The roll is grilled perfectly, and the lobster is tender and buttery with just enough mayo. The potato salad is really great as well. It has bacon, chives, and cheddar with tender yet firm potatoes and a nice tang. Highly recommend.

Feb 2024 - Traveling with a friend from Maine and she suggested the lobster roll. (she should know, right?!) Best I have ever eaten! Hands down! Todd and Joey are so kind and their story of how they meet and started their business is a story in itself. Best lobster roll ever! Thanks!

Ordered a special birthday cake- for me!! I was walked through ideas, and we organized the perfect cake. It was delicious, beautiful, fresh and so well priced!!! I am beyond thrilled!! Great work....vanilla cake with lemon curd filling and lemon butter cream frosting....WOW!!!!

The Sugaree is my favorite breakfast/lunch spot. The bacon, egg, and cheese (mozzarella) on spinach Asiago bread is amazing. The donuts and ice coffee are amazing! Great place with friendly service.

Delicious and fresh. Bread made daily. Spinach Asiago bread, tuna melt. Sides were wonderful.

Their danishes are the best we’ve ever had! All of their food is amazing and delicious! Every time I go, I can’t just pick one thing!

We just moved from the Boston area to Bluffton, SC. We were so happy to find out that a restaurant in Bluffton served lobster rolls. Turned out they serve a really good lobster roll that made us feel like we were in Maine. It not only tasted great, the price was very reasonable, too. We will definitely become regular customers and we noticed that just about everyone there for lunch today was eating a lobster roll, too. Thank you to The Sugaree for bringing the delicious taste of a Maine Lobster Roll to Bluffton!

Being from New England I've been spoiled with lobster. I took my friend there today for a lobster roll which she has never had. WHAT!!! She hates mayo and they made her a lobster roll on a toasted roll with melted butter. Connecticut style, she devored it. The slaw was ok. The roll was sweet which was interesting to me. Very fairly priced.

This was a 12 out of 10 hands down. The lobster roll was one of the best I have ever had. Originally from New England I am a tough critic but this was delicious and the service was great! Next time we are in the area we will be back ❤️

Baked goods are excellent. Self service type of place with a few tables and missed matched chairs. Pleasant staff, clean dining room. The sandwiches we had, pastrami and ham/pimento cheese, were very tasty. The popular lobster roll tasted "fishy" today, much to the disappointment of the two that ordered it. At almost $18.00 per sandwich, they were expecting better. Place is very popular with many ordering the lobster roll so we may have just hit an off day.

Stopped in for lunch with a visiting relative and my toddler. We got two lobster rolls which were great, and a turkey Reuben sandwich which was also delicious. I also made sure to pick up some pastries. They looked good, and the blueberry muffin my toddler insisted we nibble tasted just as good as it looked. The staff was courteous and quick, even when it got busy with the lunch rush.

Miss this place since I’ve moved. Still stop by when I’m town. Best lobster rolls, delicious buttery roll, at a very reasonable price. Cost is so much higher in New England! Love their cinnamon buns too but they always sell out because they’re so good 🙁

This place has amazing baked goods, both sweet and savory! We tried the blueberry scone, the cinnamon twist, and the cheddar and onion bialy. They were all amazing with perfect textures and a great balance of flavors. Also, these guys sell lobster rolls and the owner is originally from Maine, so you know they have to be good. Definitely coming back any time I'm in the area! Highly recommend!

Lobster 🦞 roll, this is the place to go. Reminds me of an old fashioned fountain area in an old drugstore! Friendly staff, make you feel welcome.

In an area where oysters and shrimp are king, this little gem of a place has the audacity to have genuine Maine lobster rolls as the highlight of their offerings. The owner is a Red Sox loving Mainer who does them right.

If I could give more than five stars, I would! This is a MUST when you’re visiting the Bluffton/Hilton Head area. The lobster rolls are insane; I could eat them daily, and the bakery is just as good. Can’t wait to visit again!

I was not impressed. The lobster was dry, needed mayo, lemon, some celery and a 2 ounce cup of awful broccoli salad. For $15 definitely not impressed

Amazing place! Not just a bakery, but has really great breakfast and lunch sandwiches too! We got two egg and cheese sandwiches for the road, and then had to get a muffin as well because they looked so fresh and delicious!

Never been there before, The lady wasn’t rude, but definitely not friendly, I got coffee and all the had was sugar or sugar substitute, The guy just threw my food on the table, no thank you or come back and see us, I felt like I was at a fast food place where the employees really don’t care about service or care if you come back, so that’s what Iam going to do, not go back

Amazing lobster rolls, quick service. My children were so enamored with the lobster roll, they could not wait to go back when they opened the next day!

Stopped here after seeing the reviews. We each had a raspberry cheese croissant and tried the marble donut. The filling in the croissants was very good, however the croissants tasted like they came from the grocery store - soft and not fresh, definitely not what you’d expect from a bakery. The donut was dry and had a burnt taste.

The best lobster roll I have EVER had! Staff was super nice. They do sell them at market price so it was a bit pricey but definitely worth it! Place was clean and not crowded! Will definitely be back!

Our work wanted to try the sugary for a few months. Today we tried it. They was so big we cut up 4 massive rolls and shared among 7 people and was enough for us all to be so happy and satisfied. We all agreed the best food and not as famous as it should be. Good hidden gem in bluffton.

First visit, mentioned in a local guide magazine. Got 2 lobster rolls to go (each came with a side - 1 broccoli salad, 1 loaded potato salad) for a beach picnic. We brought a cooler with ice and beverages. The containers were circle foil pans with lids and they gave us plasticware. This made for easy beach picnic and clean up. About $35. The lobster rolls were full and meaty.

Wow omg! Been hearing about this place for a while now and SOOOOOO glad i made the time to finally stop in. Coffee was A+ and the infamous Lobster Roll far surpasses all expectations! The roll was a delight. My son loved the breakfast. I will definitely be a returning customer.

I got 2 lobster rolls this morning for me and my wife, we both have stomach ache, this is not the first time I have this problem with the food here, last time I thought it was something else so I just let it go. Definitely not coming back !

Uh.. only one word for this place... YUM! Cronuts, delicious bagels with veggie cream cheese, different breads and other baked goods.. they were such a hit at my work that I have been sent back often. As a matter of fact, all the volunteers at my job (the Litter Box on HHI), have started going there because they love it. Top notch.

OMG! Delicious, fresh, hot, quick! Our go to breakfast place. Call ahead for pick up or dine in for quaint atmosphere. Friendly owners, and everyday there is an assortment of pasties, fresh bagels and more. Have not tried their "to go" pot pies but they look awesome.

Saw that Sugaree sold Lobster rolls on the next door app. People said they were the best around. My wife and I tried them, and have to agree. They were delicious. The bun was as tasty as the lobster. Can’t wait for the next time!

A person at our hotel recommended the baker/cafe for Lobster Rolls and I could not agree more. The Connecticut Roll were loaded with lobster, on a grilled bun and served with a pasta salad. My husband had a ham, cheese, egg sandwich and enjoyed it, as well. I also purchased a maple bacon pastry for breakfast the next morning and it was delicious!

First time discovering this hidden gem. Will absolutely be back. Best breakfast sandwiches around and the baked goods are to die for. All house made and extremely fresh.

I got a dozen pastries and a coffee drink, I was disappointed in all of it and the price nearly floored me. If the pastries hadn't have been for work I would have asked them to put them back in the display case, far too expensive for the quality.

One of the best Maine lobster rolls I’ve had. Would have never thought I’d find it in South Carolina. Family run business and they get their lobsters directly from relatives up in Maine. Also great for breakfast as their cinnamon rolls are amazing and they’re constantly baking in the back.

Absolutely the most delicious lobster rolls on the face of the earth. Lots of lobster on a warm, garlicky perfectly toasted roll. Served with a loaded potato salad. We go there every time we visit Hilton Head.

The bread is AMAZING! Toasted to perfection! Real good food! That perfect crunch when you bite into the sandwich. The theme is confusing. It goes in different directions. Are they a sugary or mini art gallery? Old time country bakery?? Could use a deep clean and organization of the back prep area. It’s open to the public and you don’t want customers seeing your mess. Prices are reasonable. Looks like the owners are the crew working and they seem to get easily overwhelmed. That makes me feel bad and nervous when ordering because I do not want to overwhelm them. However, they are providing a service and that is the point of their business. The person at the counter (who might be owner) leaves hair In a pony tail and swings it around. Overall they seem nice. They do have cleaning products everywhere for us to use which is impressive because not many businesses have that. Cake pop was small. Kids said cake sickles were good. The bagels are not really dense. I don’t like a real dense bread so that was nice. The coffee was also good and they serve it hot so be careful when you have it in your hands as to not spill it. We would probably go back.

We heard about Sugaree from a friend and read the reviews. If you love a good lobster roll with potato salad, this is a gem!! We also tried the chocolate scone and latte and they were very good as well. Would like to try other sandwiches, but the lobster roll was too good to pass up. The NE diners in the restaurant loved their sandwiches as well!

Lobster roll is SO good! And the potato salad and cinnamon donut, too. But the lobster roll is worth the trip from Beaufort, and will certainly be an additional detour when I'm in the area. My new favorite restaurant in Bluffton.

There are very very few establishments that I will extend 5 stars to, but this one is completely deserving of that distinction! My wife and I wandered in here yesterday. I had read a review and had it on my list of places to try when visiting Bluffton. Wow! It did not disappoint. My wife had their famous Lobster Roll ($16.95 cheeeeaap!! These are going for between $19 and $32 in Maine this summer!!). And it was truly flawless. The lobster meat was perfectly tender and sweet. And the subtle balance of mayo to dijon was spot on. The bun was of course the regulation flat sided roll, just perfectly toasted on both sides. Oh, and yes, the sides. We had an unbelievably smokey smokey potato salad w/ bacon bits, and a great cole slaw. I am a NYC pastrami snob. Their's was again a flawless offering of perfectly sliced, and flavored pastrami on fantastic grilled rye bread. Again, and perfect harmony of a subtle but flavorful 'Russian' dressing to complement it, and perfectly melted swiss cheese. Probably helps that the two owners, husband and wife team are from Maine! This is a must visit if in or passing through Bluffton, SC!!

Everything is made fresh. You really can't make a bad choice. Get the lobster roll, if you want something special. However, all the baked goods are great.
