We had gyros and baba ganoush - and of course a Turkish coffee. Everything was ready fast and the food was delectable! Highly recommend!

Welcoming, friendly staff. I enjoyed a house coffee, baklava and the Manakeesh Sultan Style which I highly recommend.

Stopped by for a quick bite to eat and the food is really good and the service was quick and friendly. I got the chicken gyros which was really good and I overheard another customer state it’s the best in town and I might agree with that statement.

The food is made with love, the service is SO kind and attentive and the vibes are 10/10.

Today I ordered a Turkish coffee which was priced on the permanent wall menu $3. The counter person rung me up $4.50. I inquired about the mistake. In a I don't care attitude his reply was that the owner changed the price but not on the menu but that it was $4.50. I decided not to order it or ever go back. Wow not a great way to create new business.

If you have not tried this place it's a must.

I had a chicken kabab and it was good I also ordered a tabooli it was so old that it was beginning to ferment that was terrible testing I love good tabooli and this one tired me off

I live nearby, so I often grab lunch (often a chicken gyro) here when I’m working from home. While I love the food, the service is what seals the deal for me. The proprietor’s warmth is often the best part of my workday, and even when he’s out, his employees hold up a high standard. I consider The Sultan a neighborhood institution.

Wow!!! What can I not say about this low key spot in Portland. First off the menu has great choices to choose from. My choice is the breakfast burrito. Perfectly made to perfection. Grilled just the right way and just the right amount of siracha sauce on the burrito. Very fresh menu items. Great atmosphere to just either eat there. Customer service is cool and great to stop again and again.

I had a bad experience the first time I went here, but I decided to give it another try. The place is neat and tidy. The people there were welcoming, and the food was fresh and favorable. It was a lot less busy than the first time I went, but all in all, it was a great experience. I will be back and would recommend to anyone who is hungry and in the area.

They refuse to serve you water, will only sell (plastic) bottles. That's such a terrible sense of service and a no for me.

1st time in. This place is great, from the smiling young lady taking our order to the owner talking to us. Very open and lively music. Clean and tidy. Lamb Gyro was so full of taste. Amazing thank you for a wonderful lunch.

The food here is amazing! And beautifully prepared.

I had the falafel bowl and it was amazing. Crispy tender falafel on a bed of rice covered with salad and cucumbers and hummus and some delicious sauce. I'm so glad I found this place. It all tasted fresh and authentic. I also got a desert there that was mouthwatering just to look at and did not disappoint.

I appreciate they have been around for years Unfortunately my latest gyro cost 14 dollars and it was tasteless and cold. Feta was like sawdust and tszaki sauce had no bite.

Ordered today for pick up, oh my goodness this food is so good. I have a new favorite spot to eat. Also everyone working there is so sweet! 10/10. Eating left overs now and it's still SO GOOD.

We have eaten twice at this cafe in the past several weeks while we were in the area, and, observing, it seems to be well-attended by others in the neighborhood. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and attentive to keeping the cafe clean. In fact, the first thing I noticed about it was its gleaming windows. We are particularly enjoying the Mediterranean offerings, although a substantial bowl (listed as a cup) of chicken rice soup was a taste surprise because of its great flavor and lack of the all-too-common cornstarch binders. “Only the good stuff” was the reply when I complimented the cook. Everything is very fresh. I had the mezza plate with falafel, and the tabbouleh, hummus, and baba ganoush were terrific. I’m not always a falafel fan, but I liked the subtle and unique spicing of these ones. This is an unassuming-looking corner cafe on an unassuming street, but it is doing things right. We’ll be back.

9/19/22 Update: After fasting 13 1/2 hours for some routine blood work at nearby Legacy Good Samaritan, I was starving and new The Sultan Cafe would be perfect place for breaking a fast. So at 10 am, I asked "Is it's too early for a gyro?" At which point the owner and I said at the same time, "It's never too early for a gyro!" As the saying goes, "The rest is history", I had a full and satisfied tummy. A little hidden gem located in the last bastion of NW Portland's industrial area. Open for breakfast and lunch with limited indoor seating and take out available. Delivery by the usual services. Open until 8:30 am—2 pm weekdays. Great food, ample quantity, reasonable prices, with friendly owners and staff.

Portion/ taste for the price you pay is not worth it! this place looked like it was such a good pick back in the day but now it's just not worth it.

Amazing food! I’ve eaten lunch here 3 times this week, yes, the food is THAT delicious. The customer service is always on point, the food is always fresh and seasoned to perfection. The pricing is amazing and definitely will keep me coming back. Okay, back to my burger I go.

I had a Delicious panini nirvana . Highly recommend one. Was a wonderful experience and will be back to try more. Was greeted when I walked in and made to feel at home.

The food and service was wonderful. If you order a monster gyro be ready to be there awhile or get a to-go container. . . That things huge! They'd get 5 stars if they had an accessible entrance. But eating outside on a beautiful day was nice. They would have helped me inside if I wanted to though. I'll definitely be back for more. Prices WEREN'T outrageous either.

Awesome lunch spot - can’t go wrong with a gyro

This place is the best. The owner, Mike, is incredibly cool and friendly. I've never gotten something I didn't like from the sultan. I really miss those french fries! Also if you don't already know about it, GET THE GARLIC SAUCE.

This is a nice little café with one of the best gyros I have ever had. The lamb and sauce are delicious and the portion size is huge for the price. They also have delicious chai cheaper than you'll find at any coffee shop (and just as good, if not more so).

A hidden gem. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food and coffee are wonderful, everything is reasonably priced, and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

This place smells like heaven, has amazing food and coffee, and a very friendly staff. I love to get the Turkish coffee or an espresso drink and the falafel wrap or a bagel with hummus. It is always the best part of my morning to come here!

This place is so good! I've never been disappointed with my food or service. The whole staff is incredibly kind. My go to's are their breakfast burritos (seriously delicious), the chicken shwarma, and the BAKLAVA! You must try the Baklava. Thank you for being open during this time!

I had the pleasure of eating sultan's several times while I worked near the restaurant. Food aside, Mike the owner is extremely pleasant. Very nice man and a lot of fun to talk with. Boy can he cook! I've had each one of his daily specials my favorites being Palestinian ragu (spicy) and the shawarma chicken. Panini's are good. Burritos are good. Gyros are amazing. Every thing is priced well. It's a great spot for lunch.

Love the monster chicken gyro! Loads of meat, with good veggies and seasoning. Good garlic fries too, just be careful; they're pretty much a full meal on their own.

The gyro portion it's kind of small but it's yummy

My first and probably last time going here. Food is pretty good but sad they can't seem to handle more than a few customers at a time. Waiting in line took 15-20mins then another 15-20mins for my food to arrive wrong. I don't think what I ordered sounded anywhere near what I recieved. So like I said the staff might be nice but flustered and mistakes with more than a few customers.

I'm a fan of the falafel and am always in search of the best. Although fresh, it had kind of a pasty texture and not much spice. It smelled wonderful and they had a nice selection. I'd definitely try it again, it just won't go on my list of favorite falafels.

This was a lucky break for a spot when we thought there'd be no restaurants! U-Haul was over, we were hungry and exhausted, it's lunch. We're about to say 'heck with it' and go our separate ways, then? The Sultan Cafe! I started to get excited as soon as I saw "Felafel". We got in and the menu prices were really reasonable so I was wondering how great it was going to be. I got the most expensive thing-- Two Skewers with Hummous and Rice, Yogurt for $12 a plate. We each got one, some sparkly water and had a seat. Wow. The guy brought it out and I knew right away this was going to be a good plate of food. First of all, let me prepare you for authentic SAFFRON cooked rice. It's a lot of places which will go extra miles and use saffron at all from a mix, but I don't actually recall any place having quite this sort of flavor and consistency. It was a lot more rice than I would normally consume with my diet but I had the whole thing, it might be two cups of rice-- the saffron power was irresistible, it had wonderful consistency and it complimented the meal. The skewers were just how I like them, which is to say they were blackened on the outside and bursting with moist flavor on the meat. The veggies were not dripping or otherwise offensive off the stick and the flavor was outstanding. The meat was marinated a long time and there was absolutely zero dryness. This was well prepared meat and they cooked it just right. I'm salivating again just thinking about it! Wow. The hummus was prepared in a neat little area with some paprika, oil and I believe they added the pitted Kalamata or other dark olive there. The hummouss- absolutely out of this world. It's a great hummus and I have high bars on that. I've had hummus in many places from many countries recipes and it's a win-win situation with the hummus here. The yogurt was extremely delicious and quite a lot of it. You won't go wrong! The people who run this care about the place and it's got terrific food for unbelievable prices for what you get and how much. A++

What a great surprise to stumble upon this gem of a diner. We are not from Portland, but occasionally have to travel there for medical issues. Not knowing how to navigate this city, we always arrive at the dr's office early, then go for a walk. Yesterday we were both a bit hungry, and happened to spot this little place - and it was exactly what we were looking for. My wife had the Turkey Panini, and I had the Beef Gyro - which turned out to be the absolute best sandwich I ever had. The prices were also quite surprisingly reasonable - less than Subway, actually. Anyway, we will be making two more trips to Portland in the coming months, and I know where we'll be have lunch!
