I had a wonderful dining experience at Tofoo Com Chay Vegetarian Cuisine! The service was top-notch, with friendly and attentive owner who made sure we felt welcome from the moment we walked in. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality and variety of food offered. I highly recommend trying their Bun Bo Hue—it's absolutely delicious and full of flavor! This place is a gem for anyone looking for great vegetarian options, and I will definitely be coming back soon!

An absolute hole in the wall gem. I had meetings at SJSU and went here for a quick casual lunch and it did not disappoint. To be clear this is a vegan restaurant..so even though they have meat skewers, shrimp, etc it's all soy and tofu.

Small Mom and pop. Got the Veggie Nochicken sandwich aka sub. Quality cuisine, light and stacked with veggies. Pleasantly surprised how well it was crafted. Made me think proper food combining. Space is very tight and with tables. Good customer service and timely takeout.

An excellent hole-in-the-wall vegan Vietnamese spot. They have my favorite phở out of any of the local vegan spots and their brown rice mix is unbelievably good.

This is a nice and simple looking restaurant on Santa Clara Street. Very unassuming and neat. I have been coming here since the last 20 years. The food is terrific and the staff are very friendly. I stick to my rice with vegetable menu. It’s terrific if the lady puts enough vegetables and is consistent.

Perfect Vietnamese noodle soups you can get.

This is a tiny hole in the wall place. It was a cold and windy day so I was craving for something hot (noodle soup) and spicy is even better. Decided to try this place out since it was a late lunch (around 2pm). This is in downtown San Jose so no parking. Paid street parking only so take that into consideration your time of arrival. The shop has about 2-3 tiny tables (seat 1 each side but you're pushing it for 2) as it's extremely cramp. Originally, I wanted to order just the spring rolls and spicy Hue noodle soup. I ended up ordering probably a week's worth of take-out. In addition to the 2 items above, instead of the steam rice + entrée combo from the hot bar, I bought the entrée individually. Small round container is $6.00, large is $8.50 (I think)?.I got the braised lemongrass tofu, braised pickled Chinese mustard & tofu (this can be very spicy level) for the average person and lastly fried wonton (but they look and tasted more like goyza. This is a no frill, no thrill, tasty yet homey take-out vegetarian Vietnamese cuisine restaurant. Another vegetarian/vegan option for plant based dinners.

The best vegan pho I've ever had. Felt so healthy. They are so generous with giving you so many different kinds of vegan meats. that in addition to kind staff, and the beautiful Tibetan art and posters - it was such a healing experience. Thank you!!!

My favorite vegan place in San Jose. I love the sesame soy skewers. I just wish they were open weekends and I wish they had more outdoor seating in the sun. Some of their food can be a bit too oily or salty but mostly it's scrumptious.

Tofoo Com Chay is a delectable vegan hole in the wall in downtown SJ. It's not a huge place (seating for around 12 people total inside and out) but the food is top notch. I highly recommend their lunch combos - I got fried rice with a couple sides (eggplant tofu and a vegan "chicken" dish) and it was absolutely wonderful. I recommend the skewers and spring rolls as well. The total for all the food in the picture was $22, an incredible deal considering the portion sizes and of course the food itself. When I came on a weekday for lunch with a friend it wasn't crowded at all, I suppose most people take out. Highly recommend this spot, I'll be coming again for sure!

BEST VEGETARIAN PHO EVER. I have had multiple vegetarian phos in my life and was always left disappointed. This broth is the real deal, so deep in flavour, well balanced and so heart warming. Oh and its huge!! I had as well the spicy noodle soup which was amazing, but I think the main highlight for me and my partner was the teriyaki kebob. It brought us right back to the street corner stalls of South East Asia (even if vegan version is way better). The people running the restaurant were so lovely, they even gave peanut butter to our dog ! Dont miss out on this incredible place

My partner and I went to the Mayfair neighborhood to spend the day because we heard the neighborhood was cool - and it is! We were after some Vietnamese food, as always. When looking up vegetarian options, Tofoo Com Chay came up, and we decided to check it out. It’s close to downtown and SJSU. It’s a very cute, mom and pop store run by an elderly couple. When you come in, there’s a deli display with many vegetarian “meats”. It’s very impressive and it looks very real! After looking at the menu, we got three items: bamboo soup, teriyaki tofu sandwich, and tofu summer rolls. This was too much for the two of us, which is saying something because we have big appetites! There’s a lot of variety in the menu. The teriyaki tofu sandwich was delicious. The tofu was well seasoned with lots of well pickled veggies. The lettuce added a nice crunch. The bread was perfect for banh mi. It needed a sauce, as the sandwich was a little dry, but it was very flavorful nonetheless. Would get again! The bamboo soup was amazing. The chunks of bamboo were delicious. There were four different types of “meat”, each with their own specific textures and flavors. They were so convincing that my partner, a lifelong vegetarian, was freaked out! The summer rolls had an excellent sauce! The restaurant owners were very kind. Their passion is clear to see and they really wanted to make sure we had an excellent experience. Definitely go here, even if you’re not vegetarian!

Always my favorite place to eat. The price change a bit due market inflation but still in a good price compare other restaurants. The quality still the same. Try it and you won't regrets. I ordered bun bo hue and mi nuoc for this time.

I got the spicy noodle soup here and it did not disappoint. The broth was incredibly flavorful and there was a variety of different plant based proteins and veggies to really make it hearty. Friendly and quick service. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town.

What an amazing place! The owner and manager are so kind. Very friendly, and incredibly personable and genuine. The food was great, between my wife, 3 friends and I we ordered quite a bit of food. It all came out relatively fast and it was all delicious!

You'll just want more! Go to this place, you won't regret it. While visiting San Jose I made sure to stop by this gem. I had the bamboo soup and it was just amazing. The textures, aroma and flavors show that a lot of care and knowledge was put into it. My boyfriend and friend both had combos with rice, protein and veggies and they couldn't stop saying how delicious their food was. I also got myself some spring rolls and a "pork" banh mi (sandwich) for the road.

Inexpensive vegetarian food, generally crowded because it’s tiny, and they make you wait for your food at the table, I love it! I can’t count how many times I’ve eaten here, but I’m addicted to the braised bean curd. Their Pho is good too, the purple/brown rice sides they included with the order is perfect and the vegan fish sauce they give for the salad topping is tasty.

If you haven't tried their vegan turkey for Thanksgiving, you're seriously missing out! $15 for a pre-made plate (quantity limited), or $40 for a giant 'bird' with mashed potatoes and gravy: 100% worth it! WAY better than any store bought roast! The 'meat' is moist, texturally pleasing, not too salty, and flavored amazingly with a scoop of tangy, teriyaki drizzle. The stuffing is moist but not soggy, a smidge sweet and salty, loaded with mushrooms and cranberries. And to top it off, the gravy is super high quality: fatty, but with a depth of flavor, with mock meat bits scattered throughout. If you're trying to impress family, you won't be disappointed! :D

Excellent vegan food that is honestly as good as non-vegan versions. I have no idea how they make such good meat replacements - it's like magic. My girlfriend and I really enjoy their bun hue chay, which is just the right spiciness and has great flavor, all for around $10! One order plus an appetizer usually is enough food for us both.

Located right in Downtown San Jose, this place is a hidden gem for all the vegans. From the kebabs to the fried rice, everything is fantastic! The staff is very friendly and the prices are reasonable as well.

I could eat their hearty vegan Phō every day! I crave it. Love to bring home sides of spicy tofu, eggplant, curry, braised tofu, veg fried rice, roti drumsticks for the weekend or a potluck! One of the many great things about working at SJSU has been its proximity to Tofoo Cam Chay.

Great place. We had lunch here and loved it. We stay nearby sometimes and this is our goto place.

Pretty good food, 4.5stars sandwich, 4stars lunch combo with sesame chicken and fried rice. TL;DR: I've had better for just as cheap, but this place is fine by itself. It's pretty cheap, but for credit cards it's $20 minimum. Picking lunch was confusing: I figured since they have lunch combos with 1 or two items I'll get sandwich as one "item" But it doesn't work this way - menu options and combos are completely separate things. It feels like this restaurant is really great with menu items, but not great with combos. After all my sandwich was really good, but combo - not so much.

Oh my godddd!!! Discovered a jewel in Bay Area! Food is so so good. Also the portion size for the price is amazing (and cruelty free). I can’t recommended this enough to all folks to try it out . Lots of blessings to the couple for vegan Vietnamese restaurant. Wish they open more locations !

My family and I have been coming here since I was a kid and I'm now 27! I love that its very afforable and the food is always delicious. For Thanksgiving they make a vegan Turkey that is a staple for us every year. The only thing you have to keep in mind is to have cash becuase they dont accept cards.

A little slice of vegan heaven right here!! I've had the banh mi (#8) 2x now & it's just SO tasty! And huge for the $6 price tag!! Just tried teriyaki chikn kebabs & they were good as well! Pair with a vegan donut from up the street & it's a perfect little meal, all for less than $15

This place is a hit or miss. The foods are precooked and sit out, whether they are kept at an safe temperature is uncertain. Sometimes the food smells fine. Sometimes the food smells like it’s been sitting out too long. Lunch plates get reheated in the microwave unless you’re ordering some kind of soup or fried item. The reheating and cooling down could be the reason for the smell if you’re not eating it right away. Or ask that it not be heated up if you plan to take it somewhere when you can reheat it when you’re ready. The options available for lunch combos varies. Overall, it’s still pretty good. It doesn’t blow your mind, just decent.

Biggest hidden gem of San Jose! It might look like a hole in the wall, but you step inside and the best vegetarian food awaits! Everything is vegan and you won’t believe it because the “meat” both looks and tastes like real meat. You really can’t go wrong with anything in there. The combo plate food in the little window is excellent, the egg rolls are to die for. My boyfriend and I have been coming here consistently for three years and we always order a soup (bamboo soup and vegetarian pho is awesome!) and I always get the vegan banh mi (#11 sesame “chicken”)! We don’t live in California anymore, but every time we come to San Jose to visit family we be sure to come here.

Had the beef stew with tendon and it was amazing. Egg rolls were delicious. Fresh, clean and priced right.

They also have other dishes that are very tasty but I personally always go for the pho. This review brought to you by a meat lover. Everything on the menu is vegan and reasonably priced (~$10 for a meal), and their imitation meat is delicious! Best vegan/vegetarian pho I've ever had. The broth is flavorful unlike many other restaurants' veggie pho which are bland and unsatisfying. I also enjoy their large variety of deli items - highly recommend the kung pao "chicken"

I love their soups! They are fresh flavorfulit's old, tiny and cold inside bring a jacket or take your soup to go. There is outside street seating. I'm going to try other items they have pre made.

The food is old, and the place is dirty. This place might be violating health codes. But At least it's cheap for those looking to spend less. I only knocked off One Star because it is still at least a true vegetarian restaurant, and they make awesome vegan turkeys on thanksgiving.

BEST VEGAN PLACE IN THE BAY AREA. The food is so good and they have affordable prices which is why im able to go here so often. The banh mi's here are the best and you really cant find a better banh mi elsewhere. My bf isnt even vegan but he loves their banh mi's.

Fantastic vegan Vietnamese food at a place that is a bit run down, but you won’t be disappointed by the flavors and textures. I had the fried rice with 2 main dish choices for $9 and an even $10 with a Soda. Cash only. Staff are friendly and its fun to listen to them speaking Vietnamese amongst themselves and with some local regulars. The owner said he opened this shop more than 35 years ago after coming from Vietnam. The vegan ‘meats’ were originally made using bananas, but they now use soy base or jackfruit. The vegan kebabs and chicken were really tasty and filling. I’d been frustrated by the lack of vegetarian options when I visited Vietnam in the 90’s, but the owners assured me I would find a lot of great options now. Such friendly people. For sustainability, eat-in diners on reusable plates and utensils but to-go in plastic packaging in plastic bags it seems (so bring your own to save in take-out waste if you can).

The food is beyond excellent! The only reason I'm not giving this place a full 5 stars is because the location is so bad. Also, I once decided to take my food to go, but it just wasn't the same quality as eating in, which was a shame since I would love to eat this more often, but it's just too much of a hassle. Other than that, I highly recommend this place at least once since the food is amazing, and there are few vegan places that can compare.
