There are great Japanese restaurants and then there’s Umami. Food is delicious and staff are friendly. When you walk through the door and into the restaurant is like being transported into another dimension. The Godfather roll is 100% worth it. Best Japanese restaurant in Brevard.

They have recently opened a new location in Indian Harbor Beach Eau Gallie Blvd. and to say their soft opening was fantastic would be an understatement! Besides some extremely delicious rolls, The staff was beyond accommodating for everything I asked for. Looking forward to having this restaurant so close to home.

my wife and i stopped by just to check out their sushi and were very pleasantly surprised. it isn't cheap but it was definitely good and we'll certainly come back again.

Out shopping an hour from home and decided on Sushi for dinner. This restaurant had a good rating and very good reviews so we decided to give it a try. Plenty of parking and you could smell the cooked food from the parking lot - and it was good!! Arrived at about 6:30pm. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. Atmosphere was nice, sushi came out timely and was very good. We split the chef's sushi plate and the chef's sushimi plate. Delicious!! Very fresh! Tastes and textures that were unique and good. We really liked it!!

One of my favorite restaurants! I visit this restaurant at least once a month, if not more often, and their sushi is the best ever! The servers are very knowledgeable and service is spot on!

While the sushi rolls were great, the appetizer, Korean ribs, is not recommended. They were chewey an gristley. Server never came back until serving rolls and was informed they were not cooked properly. Said she would tell chef. Expected more from a restaurant I'd heard so much about. No offer for credit and no offer to make it right.

Umami takes a unique spin on some dishes. Hubby and I had the Trinity and the Lobster Afternoon Delight and the Korean Short Ribs as an appetizer. While the main dishes were vg, the short ribs were gristley and chewey and fell short. When we informed our server who came by long after it was served, she said she would tell the chef. We do not recommend the ribs!!! She did not offer an alternative or credit or anything other than saying she'd tell the chef. And, after ordering we also learned there were specials...Ty Renee as we had higher expectations from a restaurant we'd heard so much about. The food was vg but service was mediocre. We always leave at least 20 percent and did so again but we're highly disappointed and don't know if we would re visit for the aforementioned reasons.

Always good, but, WOW. Tried some new stuff and the crunchy tuna and civechi were out of this world. Friendly service is always appreciated too.

Must be honest, I expected much more from this place. 5-Spices Calamari were good, but, inspite great looking plate with food on it, I was totally disappointed with Kazan Scallop, because it was bland, and couldn t taste nothing but mayo. I had feeling that I ordered plate of mayo on something. Nice restaurant and good atmosfere, but a bit overpriced, with confused service, and Im not impressed with food.

First time at this restaurant! Decided to try it because the reviews I read were excellent! Unfortunately, the food did not meet my expectations! If you go there for dinner, don’t order the steak! Even though, they claim it is “prime beef” my steak was not tender!

Any time we visit family in the area a meal (or three) here is a high priority, some of the best sushi at this price point you’ll find not just in the area but anywhere. The sashimi is always fresh and the rolls are wonderful. Service is always excellent and friendly.

I have been here a few times and have ordered from them a handful of times as well. There quantities for sushi are just so much smaller than every one of their local competitors for sushi that is at a similar quality too.

Tuna was not fresh. Chewy and rubbery. Double dragon roll the eel was nasty and squishy not cooked right. The crispy tuna rice was good. Service was slow. Waited over 1 hour for 2 sushi rolls. All around me and my girlfriend were not impressed. Over priced low tier sushi. Save ur money before going here

Had a great meal with my family at Umami! We all had sushi and sashimi, and everything was fresh and of high quality. Service was on point. Definitely the best sushi place in town. Looking forward to our next visit!

The spicy crispy tuna sushi is amazing. I buy three orders right off the bat. Like their beer selection too. Best sushi in bevard county. This place gets packed and service is limited. I only try to eat here right at open.

The food is fresh and the staff are always friendly no matter how busy it gets. The salmon salad is one of my favorite dishes. The sushi is also delicious.

I decided to test this restaurant due to the “hype” I was told the sushi rolls were amazing. As I entered the restaurant, I observed some faux brick walls and tables without any partitions. It was very small and open concept. I did not care for the atmosphere much but I was still excited to try the food. We ordered a Philly Roll and a Crunchy Salmon roll. I will admit both rolls were tasty but not as good as I expected. I believe The sushi at Jao Thai in Melbourne is better. We also order some Yaki Soba noodles with chicken $20. The bowl itself was huge but the portion was small for the price. Is say it was a $13 dollar plate max. This is my take on this place. It has a sort of NY high end feel but the food is not as good as it’s hyped up to be. The sushi and noodles are average. The total was $48 but I’ve had better sushi and a larger portion of noodles for less. I’m glad I tried it but not sure if so would return. This is all opinion based so please give them a try and see for yourself.

All I can say is wow. This place is wonderful. A hidden gem in Brevard in a very un assuming place with insane parking and traffic nightmare area. But it's worth the hassle. A must go to if you like sushi etc etc

I've only been here twice but both times have been so great! The food is so good, service is relatively quick and the staff are friendly. The atmosphere is ambient with low lighting. Good for a calm place to eat in general or for a great date night. There is no loud music so it's easy to speak to anyone you might be with. Definitely coming here again. The second time I came here I got a rainbow roll with masago and cream cheese added. For dessert we got the strawberry crepes. MAGNIFICENT. They were light and fluffy, and a great ending to my dinner. See pics!

This place is a hidden gem! Luckily we got there just before the dinner rush because it got packed fast! We were in and out in less than an hour. Service was prompt and thoughtful. The food was great. The dim lighting made the atmosphere very intimate.

Food is great the service is BAD .I understand that the place is busy but the server is not doing her job right.After we sat down on our table we ordered a drink and after the server brought the drinks she just left and went to take care a new costumer and came back 10minutes later to get our order and it took probably 30-45minutes to served our food .It’s very disappointing .

This place is amazing almost all dishes are very tasty. For me the Trinity, Boba Fett and the Calamari.

Definitely a top contender for best sushi in Brevard county. Add in a very decent saké selection and what's not to love? Highly recommend. Just be prepared for a wait, as seating is limited and they do not take reservations. But it is well worth it!

This place is about as authentic as you can get in a town like Melbourne. With things like takoyaki and blue fin toro it's hard to beat. The roll selection may be more limited than some restaurants but elaborate rolls are an American thing anyway. The dining room is also size limited so expect a wait at any popular time. But in any case you should really make sure you try this place.

I've never had anything less than a fantastic meal at Umami. Everything on the menu is great from the sushi to the katsu chicken my six year old gets. There are, however, some stand out dishes that are just next level. First, it should be noted that Umami is a contender for best sushi in town. But it off all their rolls, I have to recommend the Boba Fett roll the most. It's similar to a volcano roll but so much better. In the small plates category, the Korean Short Ribs are outstanding! I usually order them every time I visit as an appetizer. Tonight I tried something new, and I think it's the best dish I've ever gotten at Umami. The Wafu Steak. Holy cow was this good! I was expecting a bone-in New York strip with typical sauteed mushrooms on top. Not even close! The steak comes out on a bed of mixed sauteed veggies. It's sliced and has this amazing flavorful bark on the outside. On top are a mix of all kinds of Japanese mushrooms, which include these extremely thick steak like slabs of stone incredible mushroom I had never had before. This dish is so good! Pro tip: Check out the Japanese craft beer menu. There are LOTS of cool options you won't find anywhere else!

This place is incredible. I wish the general location was better (the shopping plaza is blegh), but the food and service far outweighs the location!

Incredible food. The sushi is top notch, in terms of taste, quality of ingredients, and creativity. The cuts of tuna in multiple different rolls were the most perfect, succulent tuna I have ever had. They must be buying higher quality than other sushi joints in town. A variety of drinks including a full sake menu. Perfect venue for a date night as the atmosphere and servers are wonderful. This is also a great place for lunch and has a great deal on the bento box.

Every bite was delicious. You can’t help but chew slowly to savor every spectacular flavor. Very light and fresh. The tempura veggies were perfectly crispy without a greasy feel. Service was on point as well. 10/10. Check out the lunch specials.

This is really sad for me. This used to be one of my very favorite restaurants. In particular the umami mushrooms were fantastic. Things have changed. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was an unpleasant smell, which to say the least is off putting in a sushi restaurant. Secondly, the floor was disgusting. It was sticky from something unknown. This was a feature found throughout the restaurant and particularly worse in the restroom. At one point I thought my shoe was going to come off. The umami mushrooms or salted so heavily no other flavor could be detected. The scallops which were previously served on a bed of salt with flaming cubes to warm the dish no longer has that sort of flare or flavor. They just seem to taste of barbecue sauce. The most expensive thing on the menu which is what I ordered for my dinner was adequate. I feel like this place used to be a gem in the rough. It seems all that's left is the rough.

Our first time there was amazing! Best sushi I have had in Melbourne. Our server Savannah was very sweet and gave us exceptional recommendations. The sake was also very tasty!

We came here around 7pm. It was packed but the wait wasn’t that long. We sat down and ordered drinks. Service was great. We ordered the double dragon and bang dang. I ordered. A house salad. Food was good. Don’t have complaints about that. Bathrooms were clean. Overall decent experience.

I went there with my friends for lunch. This was actually my first time ever there so it was quite different for me. I don’t eat sushi but I chose the curry beef and rice and I have to say it was delicious… I will be back next time with the wife and daughter…

The food was really good , we tried three signature sushis heisenburgh , Cajun salmon and Corona and also one curry bowl . All the dishes were good . But I had one big issue which made me give the service a 0 star as I gave around 8% of the tip and then when I was leaving they asked for more tip saying this is not enough which was really bad.

5 out of 5 and Jim was very attentive!! The place is small so completely busy and the ambience is perfect regardless if there are kids. For the price it is so fresh and more than filling along with their many drinks. Seaweed salad all the rolls I can’t wait to try new ones!

Food was good. Probably one of the best restaurants in the area offering high quality food like a5 wagyu and high grade ahi tuna. The only negative I have was searing of food. Such as with the tuna takaki, would prefer more of a seared crust on it. I understand it should be raw, but I've had some from other places that were able to do it while still being raw. The same with the wagyu... The rock doesn't get hot enough for you to really sear the fat like I would like. Still good, but was a bit of a downer. The first few slices went decent ( fat caught fire) and gave a good sear but went down fast after. Went out within 10 min I would say. The gentleman sushi roll was decent. Tempura Ice.cream seemed a bit soggy.. again had it from other places that got crunchy, but still good (especially for the Melbourne area) Will revisit soon for Curry!!

Prices are higher here......it's pricey...I spent almost $100 on a carryout dinner for my fiance and I (2 people = $90), and it was a total bomb. My main complaint? Our rainbow roll had creamcheese in it......(Just....why?) Really??? Dont mess with traditional classics.......That was weird and dissapointing (we didn't finish it and gave it to the dog). Also, the "Millenial roll" which was loosely wrapped in rice paper was messy and stuck to itself....it was more like a hand roll that fell apart as you ate it. We did like the atkins roll, but overall we were dissapointed Between the higher end prices and quality of food....SO.... Not sure we will be back.

This place is great, I come here with my mom. The rolls are original and quirky. But also classic rolls as well. I recommend the Heisenberg, the Bang Dang, and the Dragon roll. Great food and great service! Emily is great.

My go to place in Melbourne for sushi!

It is definitely not worth to wait at the door to get them opened the restaurant. High priced place with very mediocre food. Chirashi was below average and ceviche was absolutely disaster. For someone who eats two three times a week from Haru, Sumo, and Makotos it wasn’t worth driving.

Hands down the best sushi. I went with friends and we all got something different and it was all really good. It is very small and we had a small wait, but it wasn't horrible. I would say this is more for a date night and probably not the best for little kids. The service was great and our waitress answered all our questions without hesitation. I will definitely be back.

This restaurant is a little pricey, however the quality is top notch. You get what you pay for. We had boulgogi, teriyaki chicken, edamane, and a few rolls. Everything was delicious. All the food tasted very fresh. The ambiance was very relaxing. The service was excellent. Everyone was very friendly and quick. I will definitely recommend and come back

My daughter, grandson and I had lunch today in Umami today . There is a nice atmosphere, perhaps a bit too dark. We ordered two Udon soups and a bento box. We enjoyed the food. The soup was flavorful and it came with a generous portion of tempura. Service was good but it took a long time to get the food. The server was gracious and attentive.

Best sushi in Melbourne! The service was amazing and we were able to be seated at the sushi bar. I’m currently daydreaming about this meal. We got a rainbow roll, salmon avocado salad, takoyaki, and the king of the north roll. I can’t wait to go back.

Only one host and she was tied up all night on the phone. After literally standing in front of her for 15 minutes waiting for her to get off the phone, she advised us of a 40 min wait regardless of the several vacant tables. Horrible customer service

Visited Umami for dinner recently. I’ve never seen a waiting line outside of a sushi bar before that was a great sign! As the crowd was letting inside, the tables filled up immediately to a full house and solo diners, such as myself, or directed to the sushi bar. That was fine with me. Within a couple minutes, a server came by to take a drink order, and leave me a couple menus to review. Within another 3 to 5 minutes my server stopped back to take an order. The food was prepped and delivered within the next 10 to 12 minutes and I must say everything was very very good. I recommend this establishment, as it may possibly be among the top three sushi bars in the Melbourne Florida area. It was recommended to me, and I am paying it forward and recommending to you!

I met a friend here for some sushi. I'm a bignfan of sushi and this place did not disappoint. Choices were very good, service was fine, and the same with atmosphere. It's not the greatest I've had but still very good quality. I would not have issues eating here again.

Great restaurant, nice people the atmosphere is nice fast service, I have and issues with the sauces were very sour or to much vinegar taste I need it to mix with eel sauce;) but food is good I will definitely go back and keep trying more dishes, 100% recommend

This place is phenomenal. A true diamond in the roughest of rough brevard. Real New yorker, I have eaten some of the best sushi places on this planet. This place is definitely very good. No, it is not a $350 omagase kaiseke joint but the fish is VERY fresh, the prep is clean and masterful, the garnish and ingredients are tasteful and traditional. They should ad real Wasabi to the menu for a charge. Please do not super-size and americanize this place. The food is excellent. If you think they need more mayo or avacado or panko please go back to the mall food court because you have no idea what good sushi is. Hopefully they can keep up the food quality, as the quality of workforce around here is very low. I don't know what all these hills with eyes folks are talking about with there bad reviews. Ooee it's expensive ehhh I had to wait. Shut up and eat this high quality quinine and then take your phoney southern fried cheap self home. Arigato gozaimasu

Great service, great menu, great atmosphere. My yellowtail orders were served a tiny bit on the warm side though. Wouldn't stop me from going back. Great place.

First off I wanna say this wasnt our first time attempting to eat here. Fortunate for them but unfortunately for us, they’re extremely popular and hard to get a table out during peak hours. I think that expansion is in their cards in a very near future. They could definitely use a dedicated phone person and or additional phone lines. Phone is constantly busy. The front desk women are extremely kind and professional. We were seated quickly and served quickly. We ordered four sushi rolls between the two of us. It did take some time to get out of the kitchen but it’s understandable considering the nature of sushi. We were there on a Friday night so they were quite busy. When we did get our food, the presentation was beautiful all utensils were already on the table, which was nice. The rolls were amazing they had so many flavors it was hard to keep up with, but they all paired so well. I normally dip my sushi in some form of soy sauce, but these didn’t require any of that. Definitely one of the best in brevard. The server was very prompt and kind. Pros Presentation, quickly seated(when not busy), server was attentive and kept drinks filled, atmosphere was dark but calming, tase of food was amazing. Cons Speed of food, can be pricy depending on your order, phone line was constantly busy. Maybe they need additional phone line or a better phone system.
