I dream of Uni Sake, all the time. I don’t live in Baltimore, due to moving overseas. But I can honestly say, I have never found a sushi place like umi sake here in Australia. My go to rolls when I visit family that are a must have: Viva Las Vegas Roll Flaming Lips Roll No Name Roll They have the biggest variety of sushi, and their general Tao chicken is mouth watering. Guys, this is a must if you are local to Timonium. And I am genuinely jealous I can’t get umi sake every week.

I ordered ramen and was disappointed. It was a blob of ramen noodles submerged in simple broth with pinch of shredded scallions. The noodles were stuck to each other like you would see them in a package sold in stores. There was fried chicken on a side which was hard to chew. I liked the vegetable tempura. Good portion size and tasted good.

Wait staff informed me that this business engages in illegal pay deductions when the wrong item is ordered. Our waitress was visibly and vocally upset, which upset us as diners. We felt we were clear about our order, but mistakes happen. A $40 entree is nothing to the employer, but a significant portion of a given wait staff member’s pay. This business practice is frankly disgusting as an advocate for fair labor, and makes me sick. This business sees a lot of commerce, despite their the mediocre quality of their dinner menu. Their sushi is good though lol. I called the business after this. The manager said I was “breaking up”, which was a clear lie. I said 3 particular words in response, I’ll let you take a guess at which 🫡

Wait staff was super rude. It seemed like a toxic work environment. Wait staff was crying and complaining about the employees.

My girlfriend and I have come here for dinner several times in the last 3 months. Last night will likely be our last visit. We arrived a bit before 9 (internet says closing is 10), as we had done in some of our previous visits. Not ideal, but sometimes I get out of work late. After ordering, I overheard our server (Olya) complaining to a coworker something like: “they always come late, it’s 9:00!” No one came in after us, so it was clear she was referring to us. The sushi isn’t that great, but I’ll miss the pad thai.

I've dined in and gotten carry-out from Umi Sake in the past with no issue or complaint about the food. However, I wanted to share a negative experience I had this past weekend getting carry-out. I walked in and waited in front of the sign that said "take-out" and the little man in the suit, likely the front of house manager, did not even acknowledge my existence for the several minutes I patiently stood there. Only after standing there for some time and not even receiving a "hello, I'll be with you in a minute" from this little man, did a much more friendly woman come over and help me. Any time my wife and I want to go to a great "sit down" sushi restaurant (as opposed to getting carry-out, etc), we will drive extra 15 mins to come to Umi Sake.
