French Onion soup delicious. Nice music volume. Booth was tight- will ask for a table next time. Quite dark atmosphere. Steak and mushrooms a little bland. Nice staff. If you want butter with the bread or salt/pepper on table ask for it. Not quite up to par for a fine restaurant.

Felt it was a bit pricey for quantity. Even for fine dining. Especially since there were slight issues, lamb kinda fatty, creme brulee slightly burnt taste...But overall, good experience.

For those of you who have been reading my reviews, you might already know that 3 years ago I had moved my 86 year old father up here to MKE from St. Louis. I'm a vegetarian and he is a dedicated steak lover. And, being from Missouri, he is rather opinionated about what a good steak should be. I've taken him all over the area in search of a cut of meat that would fit his elevated standards. Even though he has been happy at a few places he had never commented upon the steak to the degree he did after our first dinner at The Union House. The place is in a historic olde tymey depot area in a 19th century building. We found ourselves back in time. The service was excellent and the place was relatively quiet for a Thursday. Anyhow, back to the good part. My father said to me, "Damn, that might have been the best steak I've had." I asked him if he meant since moving to Wisconsin but he corrected me. "No, ever." He had the center cut Angus filet with peppercorns inserted. I had a goat cheese in tomato sauce thing (which was ok, but nothing memorable), some potatoes in cream, and something else. It was all tasty but like many steak houses they tend to fuss more about the main courses. So, huzzah! I found a place my father loves. Two days later he told me he wanted to go back again this week. Thank you, Union House! You've made my hard-to-please father jubilant. And, that makes me happy. Five stars happy.

Nice cute place in a small village. Bar has a good selection of drinks. Appetizer menu was extensive, we ended up just sharing a bunch of apps between my wife and I. We had a reservation but when we arrived we were asked to wait by the bar for 15min, which seemed odd given this was a Wednesday and it wasn't very full. Overall we had a nice dinner, nothing that blew our minds but we would come back with friends to try the mains.

My wife and I went here today for our anniversary, and it was incredible. I can't believe I had never heard of this place before, but we will definitely be going back. Our drinks were great, the goat cheese appetizer was probably the best thing ever. Every place I've been that has had French onion soup was usually just OK, but it was perfect here. And our waitress, Georgia, steered me toward the wild game special, and I'm glad she did. The bison rib eye was fantastic. I will be recommending this restaurant to anyone and everyone.

Outstanding Anniversary Dinner 6/22/24!! When you first walk in, it's like being brought back in time to a cozy, upscale, inviting place with a speakeasy vibe of sorts, that is perfectly lit for a romantic or fun evening with those you love. Drinks were great (bourbon and brandy old fashioned with a cinnamon stick--wow loved that addition), warm fresh bread with creamed butter served at the start (Yum!), appetizer (mushroom tart omgosh AMAZING) and the Perfectly cooked tomahawk steak dinner with the most amazing thin sliced potatoes in this garlic cream sauce (to die for) hats off to the chef! Dessert was beyond fabulous too!! My husband ordered his favorite-cream brulee which was was sweet and creamy with fresh fruit and perfectly crusted top. They even brought out this beautiful plate with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate, along with a cup of chocolate couscous - holy cow was it delicious - creamy rich dark chocolate with a hint of coffee!! Our fantastic waitress Donna was a hoot the entire night. Can't help but love her!! Not only was she knowledgeable but she was fun!! She was not at all intrusive but yet was there when you needed or wanted her!! She has a gift for what she does!! We hope to see her next time we are there! It was our first visit but won't be our last. So glad to have found the Union House!!

Spectacular! Incredible food and service. The service cannot be emphasized enough, and it went well beyond our waitress. From the moment we walked through the doors, every employee treated us like we were the most important people in the world and they were thrilled to have us there. I've had "good" service at many places, but it has been a long time since I've experienced such amazing all around service.

My second birthday there and the restaurant did not disappoint. It's elegant, classy, and intimate. It's definitely a restaurant you should try. I have nothing but great things to say about this place. I felt like I took a step back in time. Definitely recommend.

I'm so happy. Wonderful filet for my wife, I had the incredible Short ribs. Her dessert was the Amaretto creme brulee, I had the raspberry schaum torte which was interesting as the torte was citrus! Everything in this place is elevated to better than the typical supper club. The wait staff shares tips and they are constantly helping each other take the best care of diners. Happy...

We go to the Union House a few times a year sometimes for a milestone sometimes just because. Last night my son wanted to go as he was home on break from the Army. Once again the service and food were outstanding. The steaks were cooked perfect and the Beef carpaccio was out of this world. Thanks for always a great meal.

Food and service was excellent. Steaks were cooked to perfection. Can't wait to go back. Only negative was it is a little too dimly lit for my preference but that is a minor detail.

The first thing you notice is how dark it is inside. That makes reading the menu hard, but I liked the atmosphere. Our waitress was lovely and attentive. The food is outstanding. Overall, I highly recommend this charming restaurant.

Wow, just Wow!! Eating here is how it used to be to eat out. Now they do what no other place does, which is give tremendous service with outstanding food. If you want friendly attentive staff that is here to really take care of you, then make this the place to enjoy a night out.

Excellent in every aspect. Donna our waitress was a delight. So was Rick the bartender. Very upscale vibe. Substantial prices nicely balanced by substantial portions. Obviously one of the very best restaurants in the Midwest. Do it!

Went for our anniversary. food was about as tasty as it gets. duck, pork belly, octopus and short ribs were all tender and flavorful - compare favorably to what I've enjoyed in hong kong or Manila. sauces were varied and excellent. fresh baked bread was delicious also. portions were sized appropriately (not too small). i had a stout on tap that was solid and the wife had a cosmo. service was pleasant, courteous and respectful. fyi - parking is in back behind the building.

Everything was excellent except for our waitress. That part of the service was lacking. She even forgot to bring an appetizer to our table. The bartender, hostess, food, were all fantastic and a pleasure to experience.

This is a hard review for me to write. My husband and I have enjoyed many delicious meals with business clients, family and friends over many years. Anyway, we went for an early fish fry and wanted a nice after dinner drink. My husband requested a White-Russian and I ordered a Black Russian. After 2 sips we both thought the taste was off. Asked server and was told they do not have kaluhau and substituted something else. It must have had caffeine in it. Palpitations for 45 minutes. We should have been informed of the substitution. They were not good. Respectfully…. We will go back. Things happen.

The food was delicious, and the service was great. I am a little disappointed they didn't have their smoked brie cheese tonight, but we will definitely be back...

Absolutely amazing food and experience.

Been here a few times. The experience is always been good. This time was no exception. Made a reservation. Got there a little early and had a cocktail in the bar area. (The Old Fashioneds are very good, we like the cinnamon stick and garnish) The place was busy (Saturday night). Got seated right on schedule. Our server greeted us almost immediately at the table. The service throughout the entire meal was great. Attentive without feeling rushed (thanks Marilyn) We had a couple of appetizer, Octopus, and Pork Belly. Both were excellent. The bread server was fresh and out of the oven warm. Each of our entrees (Wild Game Meatloaf, Porkchop, Salmon, and Short Ribs) were generous portions, thoughtfully prepared, and perfect temperature. We didn't have room for dessert, but we ordered anyways. We shared the Peach Crisp and the Chocolate Decadence. Both very good, but my favorite was the chocolate cake. We will definitely be back!

We took my mom here for her birthday and it was everyone’s first time dining here. Everything was lovely. Drinks, food, service, and our table was cozy. Wendy did an excellent job!

My wife and I have been to the Union house a few times now. If you are looking for an elevated dining experience I encourage you to try them out. We started with an appetizer of lamb sausage which was wonderful. I had scallops and my wife had duck as our entrees. Both were spectacular with unique and expertly paired accompaniments. Then we finished with two of their amazing desserts. I highly recommend the Union House.

The Union House was a great place to eat with some coworkers and business pals. We had the best time ever and had the perfect amount of time to eat, drink, and enjoy our deserts. There was no rush and we felt like we were really valued.

Fine dining at its best. I liked that it wasn't crowded (upstairs). The reservations were staggered so staff could focus on small groups at a time. It's quaint and beautiful! Can't wait to visit again to try something new!

We had an amazing family friend holiday and birthday celebration at the Union House last night. As always the service was outstanding, the sea bass feature was lovely, and I had my usual rye barrel Manhattan. Thanks for a fabulous evening!

Catered to our large group in exceptional fashion. Wait staff were superb, food exceptional, and private room with associated bathrooms clean, orderly, and laid out as desired. Short ribs were falling apart and french onion super seasoned to perfection.

This place was great. If your looking for a calm quaint fine dining restaurant this is the one. The portions are a tad small for what you pay but the service was amazing and the food was good.

Worse restaurant meal I have ever had. My tongue is still burning from the saltiness a day later. We all ordered medium rare steaks. Mine and my daughter in laws were not even pink in the middle and my sons steak was almost raw. Two of us barely touched our steaks. Mine was mostly fat and gristle. Never again! They used to serve delicious, quality meals.

The staff was amazing! The presentation of the food was great, however the main course was over cooked for 2 of the 3 of us, and was extremely salty. Very disappointed, not worth the money we spent.

The food was exceptional..French onion soup is delicious and our entrees (NY strip and salmon) were done perfectly. Daniel, our server, was attentive but let us peruse the menu and gave us impeccable service. We had a lovely anniversary thanks to you!

Definitely not a supper club, more of a high end / priced restaurant. Service was 5 stars but ends there. French onion soup and plum tart were the best. We found a menu online that apparently was old since we were set on shrimp (wife) and walleye (me), but neither were available on the current menu. Best they could do was a black cod special, average at best. Really wanted to like this place, but fell short for us. 3 stars but giving 4 for service.

I took my husband to Union house for his birthday and we were blown away! The food was incredible. We shared the cheese board, a French onion soup (best French onion soup I’ve ever had!) and then both got steak. My husband also said it was the best ribeye he’d ever had. The atmosphere was perfect for a special occasion and the service was top notch. They even surprised us with a chocolate mousse for his birthday! We definitely plan to come back!

Filets were good. Mushrooms were great. 5 O'Clock is still better, but it was fun to try something new. Service was pretty good. They brought out a chocolate mousse for dessert for our celebration, which was a great touch. It wasn't busy mid-week with lots of open and corner tables, yet we were sat next to a very loud table of men having conversations that lead to a very disrupted date night out. It would have been a much better experience being sat further away from the types of conversations they were having. No need to be sat so close regardless.

What a Supper Club was meant to be! Whiskey list is incredible (bourbon and scotch). Wait staff impeccable. Food even better.

If you are looking for a fine dining experience to celebrate a special (or any) occasion, look no further than the Union House in quaint Genesee Depot. Everything from the food, service, and atmosphere was top notch. My wife and I visited on a Friday night for our anniversary and were treated to a memorable experience. Each menu item, from the French onion soup, salad, and main course was exquisite in taste and presentation. We dined while listening to music from artists such as Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and Rosemary Clooney. Our server Adeline was both sweet and attentive to our needs. Although we ordered the schaum torte for desert, we were treated by the restaurant to a chocolate mousse, which was a wonderful final touch. We will definitely be returning to celebrate future events!

Fantastic Meal, great waitresses and an excellent Bourbon Manhattan.

We had high expectations for this restaurant after seeing how many positive comments but now I too am a believer. We started off with an old fashioned, she took the house one and I chose the Wisconsin sweet. They were both awesome, so good my wife got the mix to take home. We then had the French onion soup (May have been the best I have ever had) and my wife chose the crab cake (She said top 10) which I tried too and thought it was good. We then had two filet minions with lobster and thought they were really good with a sauce just a bit on the salty side. I really wish I had room for dessert but no such luck. Service was top notch with a pleasant atmosphere, you can actually carry on a conversation and hear each other. Don’t you hate when they bring your appetizer and one minute later here comes your dinner. Well no worries here! You can enjoy your course without having to gulp it down as your next course gets cold. The only negative thing is it’s dark, so dark I had to use phone light to see menu and bill. Overall they deserve all 5 stars and I recommend them wholeheartedly. Gary

Great food and excellent service

Ist time being there after new ownership. Food is obsolete fine dining. They made my 36th year wedding anniversary special with a chocolate dessert. Jessica, the waitress has a charming personality. This will be the place to go for any special occasion.

All four of us had excellent meals. The service was outstanding. Extensive wine menu too. We will definitely be back.

Fantastic dinner. Every course was on point. Steak was perfectly cooked. Portion sizes were appropriate. Definitely try the cheese/charcuterie board.

I've been meaning to come here for about a decade, I wish I wouldn't have waited. Excellent food, great wine selection, great scotch selection. I hesitate to say it was a perfect meal, but mainly because those words are too commonly used in reviews, not because it's inaccurate in this case. I will absolutely be back, so take that for what it's worth.

My wife and I loved the Union House. The proprietor Jim Lindenberg has clearly put his heart and soul into the Union House. The atmosphere was intimate so we could easily have a conversation without the chaos of traditional restaurants in the area. They have a very friendly and attentive staff who enthusiastically explained the specials and the Union House classics. The care taken in ingredient selection from everything to the cocktails to appetizers to entrees was truly impressive. I usually make rapid selections for dinner but I poured over the menu for 10+ minutes just analyzing the carefully orchestrated culinary delights. The food was delicious. My lobster bisque was divine. The baked crust was supremely delicate and the bisque was great. My wife’s French onion soup was very tasty. I highly recommend the scallops on risotto (see below) and my wife recommends the filet, which was perfectly seasoned and melted away in your mouth. Next time we come back we will save room for dessert. Big shoutout to Jim and his amazing time. Wonderful dining experience that I would recommend to anyone.

Disappointed to have the dry aged strip come out so overcooked. Then it took so long to be checked on, my family was boxing up their food at the same time i could report the steak to be overdone. I normally eat a medium rare steak, but this came out well done. Luckily my father was willing to take it home to eat.

Prior to last night we had not been back to the Union House for about 8 or so years. I was reminded of the Union House recently when I heard the ad on WISN. The wife and I had dinner last night and had an exceptional experience. The cocktails were handcrafted with care, the service was second to none, and the food was a step above. And I mean REALLY well done, creative and executed perfectly. We had a fantastic experience and will be back often. What a gem in Genesse Depot.

High dining with a wonderful atmosphere

We have been looking for a good restaurant in the area since moving here a year and a half ago. In Virginia we had our choice of just about any cuisine so have been very surprised at the lack of nice places to eat. After seeing the Union House on a TV program, decided to go for our 40th anniversary. From the very beginning, everything was wonderful. Donna gave us great service. The atmosphere great and food delicious. For 2 1/2 years, my taste is all messed up from COVID. I cannot tolerate garlic. Donna checked with the chef and I was able to have a delicious meal. Last year we went to a "high end" restaurant in Delavan. There I was told all sides were made ahead and contained garlic. The only option they gave me was steak and lobster. It was mediocre at best. After contacting the owner, he never came through with making it right for us I can't thank you enough for making this anniversary special for us.

The food and service was perfect. We went for our anniversary and they gave us a little treat to celebrate.

We went to the Union House on February 16th 2023. My wife and I as well as another couple at 5:30 pm reservations. We got there about 20 minutes early so we could enjoy cocktails at the bar before dinner. I was extremely impressed upon entering the establishment. It was clean and inviting. The bartender was friendly and professional. When it came time to be seated, we went into the dining room. Very cozy with a nice fireplace. Our server was Stella. She was amazing. She was able to describe the menu in detail and answer any of our questions. My wife was curious about the ravioli and Stella gave her a mouth watering description. I ordered the filet. The food was made to perfection and Stella continued to give us great service. Needless to say, we will certainly be back. Thank you Union House and Stella for a wonderful dining experience. A bit pricey compared to other similar caliber places but very good so who cares. Nice atmosphere, nice staff and food was excellent. Steak was cooked perfect ( waitress recommended having it blackened and with blue cheese topping which was great). The mushroom tart, and pistachio cream brûlée were both 10/10 as well. Lobster bisque was fine, but the $12 wild mushrooms were tragic. Nice find.

It was our first time dining here, and we were not disappointed! The wine list was exceptional, our server (Peggy) was kind, courteous & efficient, and the Valentine's special they were running was so delicious! Can't wait to go back and try more of their seasonal fare & bring friends and family 10/10 Recommend

The service is exceptional! Great atmosphere and wine list. Mushroom tart was fantastic as was the rib eye. Duck was overdone and potatoes were cold, but they remedied the situation immediately. Pistachio creme brule and pumpkin chocoflan were ok. Lobster bisque is generous with lobster but a tad too tomato forward and phillo isn't necessary. Menu is impressive but execution isn't consistent. Will definitely go back but will order differently.

In many ways, the decor felt well suited to a proper steak house. The food is broadly excellent. I don't think any of the four of our group would say that any part of our meal choices were "just good". Flavors were very good, no overwhelming seasoning. Not inexpensive, but it really was an impressive, satisfying dinner.

Staff is fun and kind. Always enjoy talking with them. Food is some of the best you can get and exotic options can be found. I was offered camel last time I was there. Dim lighting inside, narrow walkways in some areas. My wife's and my go to for anniversary or nice evening dinners.

Fine dining at it's best! I wanted to try everything on the menu. The French onion soup was made traditionally and was delicious. So good, i forgot to mention how good the drinks are. The chocolate martini and bourbon old fashioned, absolutely perfect. We also had the ravioli, asparagus, mushrooms, and the elk(limited time). All were great! I'm looking forward to trying the ribeye next time. The staff also makes you feel very welcome, and the restaurant has a very comfortable atmosphere! We hope to be back soon!

This has been our go to special occasion restaurant for years. The history, ambiance, location all make for a unique dining experience. And the biggest surprise has always been fabulous food and attentive waitstaff. Unfortunately, our most recent experience was anything but. We were seated upstairs next to a large party. Our waitress came by to take drink orders fairly promptly and offered appetizers but we had to ask about the menu. She didn't seem to know much about the menu except said the new management were "rock stars." After we ordered, we waited an hour for our main course. Two of us had salmon, one scallops, one beef and one seafood special. The food was a big disappointment. It's one thing to spend $350 for really creative high quality food and great service but not for what we got. Reading other reviews makes me think this was a "one off" experience but it will be a long time before we try this place again.

I was looking for a place to have dinner for my husband's birthday and a friend recommended this restaurant to me. I can say it is the best! Super friendly staff, delicious and tasty dishes. If you are looking for a top spot in the area, this is the restaurant.

Absolutely delicious food! Stella, our server, is the best!

Went as a party of 4 for my husband's birthday. My in-laws suggested it because of how amazing their experiences have always been. Once we sat, a female server said she would be right with us. A few minutes later a male server came over and introduced himself/took our drink order. Once he left we could see/hear himself and the female server repeatedly arguing over him "stealing" our table. He was loudly debating how he "only had one table" and we were his. At this point we should have known something was off. The server was minimally around. All food items were delivered by other servers. The hostess and the manager (?) helped us more than the server. We had to order a bottle of wine through the manager after our drinks were empty for quite sometime. We were never checked on about our entrees. Our plates sat for 22 minutes before being cleared. They were only cleared after we asked the hostess for our bills. Normally we order multiple bottles of wine and a bottle of champagne to end the experience on our birthdays. We were not even given the chance as our server seemed oblivious to our needs. The fact that he was so unprofessional and unattentive made us just want to leave multiple times through the visit. We spent over $450 and unfortunately this server made it feel like $$ and an evening/birthday dinner wasted.

Wow! Very impressed! All the pairings of unique flavors were incredible!!! The French onion soup was phenomenal!! The filet was cooked perfectly! (Minor critique - it was a little on the salty side for me, but still very enjoyable.) The desserts were delicious and well worth the hours of overly full discomfort later. Lol.
