Absolutely awesome experience! From the warm welcome, great table overlooking the river, friendly, efficient service and the most delicious food - it was 5 stars all around! The menu is diverse with seafood, grill, salads, sandwiches, and vegetarian options. There is something for everyone. Portions are very hearty, too. The outside seating overlooking the Union River is like a postcard. Simply beautiful. This will be our weekly spot when we are in town.

We liked this place so much we went twice during our weeklong vacation in the area. They have a much more extensive menu than a typical lobster pot which is great if you have kids or fussy eaters. Nice outdoor area to grab a drink while waiting in addition to watching the lobster pots. Cheese Curds with Lobster Sauce, Clam Chowder, Lazy Lobster, Lobster Pie, Surf and Turf, and Blueberry Pie are all excellent. Good selection of local beer. Friendly staff/service and comfortable/casual atmosphere, definitely recommended.

Although the location as other have stated is very beautiful, the fried seafood was the worst I have had in the 50 plus years I have been eating seafood in New England. The fried scallops and oysters were so over cooked that the batter was a very dark brown. How any reputable cook would have allowed such food to leave the kitchen is shameful. The bun on which the fried piece of haddock rested was burned and the fish was dry because it was also overcooked. The reorder of fried scallops was not overcooked, but had minimal flavor. The reorder of oysters, which I sent back, was also over cooked and over battered, had a charred flavor, with such small, shriveled oysters that one could have been eating fried cardboard and not noticed any difference. My wife, who doesn't ordinarily complain and is far more tolerant than I, said as we were driving away from the restaurant that it was one of the worst meals of her life.

Our waitress was great. The appetizers were good but the main course left much to be desired. I had the whole belly clams and the serving was very small, overcooked and chewie. My wife had the haddock that was soggy, watery and the serving was extremely small for a seafood restaurant in Maine. The lobster potein and the fried cheese curds were good but I can't recommend this restaurant because of the high price and small portion of the main dishes.

A decent place with a huge variety of available seafood. Lobsters of every possible size can be ordered, along with lots of other seafood options, broiled or fried. We, a party of 4, tried multiple entries - we had lobster, clams, mussels, haddock, fried scallops, and chowder. Sadly the preparation was quite basic and bland, minimal spices or accompaniments. The only outstanding dish was the chowder. If you want basic, it'll do. But if you are looking for a great meal, keep looking.

Arrived early & got a seat right away. This is a beautiful restaurant in a great location with a huge lawn overlooking & along a beautiful running river right in town. Theres many seating options, from fully indoors, to screened patio, & picnic tables with umbrellas on the lawn. Food was excellent with reasonable prices. I got a 1.5 lb boiled lobster with coleslaw and my friend got lobster mac & cheese. My lobster was cooked perfectly & the coleslaw had a light dressing. My friend's lobster mac could have used a little more lobster, but she enjoyed it. We also shared a blueberry summer crisp for dessert, which was excellent. Service was also fantastic. We highly recommend this lobster joint.

We had a Seafood Platter and split it. We started with crab cakes which were freshly prepared and very tasty. We bought another side salad and that was enough food for us. The dessert you have to try is the establishment’s Blueberry Pie. It was the best we have ever had, including homemade and I make a decent pie. Our only gripe was no onion rings. We like onion rings with fried seafood.

After trapping our own lobster in Portland, we decided this was definitely not the freshest lobster available. There's a major difference in taste and texture to that of just caught fresh lobster. It wasn't bad, it was fine. But not the same. Probably would return, but traffic in Ellsworth wouldn't be worth it. Obviously not their fault.

Very good. We doubt we will be back because we were scolded pretty harshly about not going inside before sitting down outside after our phone told us that our table was ready. Dragging a wheelchair and dog thru that busy packed restaurant seemed foolish when it was apparent that was our table. We had 0 people ahead of us per what we were told and per the app. The app told us that our table was ready. We had watched the person bus our table. Then because there was 0 ahead of us, and our phone told us our table was ready, we took the table. She said we had the correct table as it was the only one available. We watched them clean it and then alert us. We were outside because of wheelchair and dog. We took the available table when app told us our table was ready. Common sense isn't common these days. The food was amazing.

Came for dinner on a Monday night during the summer. It was about a 45 minute wait, which we expected for a table for 5. However, it didn’t actually feel that long since their waiting area had seating by the river, music playing in the background, as well as serving adult beverages. There was also plenty of room for the kids to run around and explore. The downside was that although we had outdoor seating (not an issue), we did not expect to have a bunch of mosquitoes entertaining us, which made us rush our dinner and spent a good amount of time trying to swat them away. Hopefully they will have some mosquito repelling mechanisms for their outdoor seating customers in the future.

I hate to do a bad review, but this was the worst lobster meal I have ever had. The lobster was totally overcooked to the point that it was so chewy I actually could not eat it. The service was not great at all on top of that. It did have an ok view of the river and my son and I had a fun chat with the guy running the boiler pots, but for the time and money we spent, I wish that we would have tried another place. We started with clam chowder, which was truly just ok. They may have waived a clam above it before delivery, but there were few clams to be found. The flavor was ok, but not terrific. Next, the salad, which looked like it was going to be tasty, until the blue cheese dressing, which was watery was applied. For my main course I had the a Halibut Provencale, which was an unseasoned piece of fish covered in tomatoes. Not a bit of salt, pepper,or anything else that resembled a seasoning in said "sauce". Very unappealing overall. I left more than 1/2 of my $32 meal. I am remiss at not having addressed this with my server, but I honestly was just so disappointed. This is the first negative review I have ever written. It's frustrating to pay over $100 for something less than mediocre. The servers were terrific, but we won't be back.

The atmosphere couldn’t have felt more comfortable, homey and New England. The food was great - I’m a cheesehead and the Lobster Poutine with cheese curds from Ellsworth Wisconsin was outstanding. The Lobster Stew was light, but rich and creamy with big chunks of lobster. Grilled Halibut with cilantro cream sauce was excellent with a nice grilled crust. When in Maine, you have to eat a whole lobster. It was fresh and delicious; what more do you need? I would recommend and come back here if I were to visit Ellsworth again. We came here at the end of August ‘23. We put our names down for a table of 8 and waited about 45 mins before getting a table. We bought drinks from the outdoor bar and sat outside by the water while we waited. Bring bug spray. The food was delicious and we had a great time here. We arrived when they opened. It was a rainy day, so we ate indoors. We like to eat early because (in many restaurants) we find it easier to have a conversation before the establishment is full. In this case, dining room was spacious, with high ceilings and plenty of seating. By the time we left, all of the tables were taken. Still, we didn’t find it too noisy. My husband ordered a glass of wine, a 2.5 pound lobster, and French fries. Our meal arrived well after the food at the two other tables where the orders were taken at the same time. The waitress explained that the delay was because of the size of the lobster— it took much longer to cook. It appears that it was worth it. My husband said the lobster was exceptionally good. I had a salad with Cajun seasoned salmon with a small serving of tasty fruit chutney on top. Perhaps because the lobster had taken so long, my meal may have been waiting for a while so our dinners could be served together. I was expecting hot salmon on a bed of lettuce. It was just barely warm. Our total came to $75 including tip. (They were having a special on the 2.5 pound lobsters.) After my review was posted, I received a message from the owner asking me to speak up in future if everything was not precisely as I expected, and they would take care of it. I believe he was sincere, and would advise others to do the same.

Had lobster mac n chz, delicious. The Parmesan crisp that came with it paired very well and was yummy. Side salad very fresh and delicious, especially the lemon balsamic dressing. Carrots good too. Wife had crab cakes and really liked them. Her sides, cole slaw and mashed potatoes were very good as well.

I had a lobster steam pot. The steamers are clams, not seaweed. The lobster pot comes with a potato and an ear of corn in the pot. Everything was great. I can't wait to come back for more. Parking was a little tight and we had to use the overflow parking lot behind the restaurant and down the hill. We had to wait 20 minutes for a table, but they let you order drinks at the cash register and you can enjoy the drinks outside by the river while you wait for a text message notifying you that your table is ready.

Based on a chance encounter with a fellow Tennesseean on a Maine backroad, we made our way to Union River lobster pot. What a fantastic experience! They are only open from 5 PM until 830 each night and there was still a line when we showed up at 8 PM. However, Kim at the hostess desk was fantastic, helping us get our drinks while we waited. Zuzu had the blueberry sangria, and I had a beer that Kim suggested. Both were great! Especially while we waited outside next to the Lobster cook station. For dinner, we had a wonderful clam chowder and a huge lobster dinner with mussels and clams. Food was great. Service was super. Loved the fish camp atmosphere. Can’t recommend highly enough!

We were only in this part of Maine for 1 week. Lobster was on our menu every day. We tried several different restaurants including Jordan's Pond restaurant in Acadia Park. However, we decided Union River was good enough to go back to 1 more time. Lobster rolls and clam chowder were the best!
