Amazing food great waitress highly recommend

It's okay. The food was average. There were no vegetarian options in the soup but the waiter helped us make one. The chow mein was simply cabbage and that's disappointing. The veg chow mein was too oily but edible.

Service was fine but slow. That had everything to do with the kitchen I'm thinking. Though it did take a while to get our arteries in and our bill paid. The property was beautifully maintained and I think this is a family restaurant that's been around for a while there. In fact, I wasn't going to review because I thought my experience is probably off considering it's the only time I've ever eaten there and probably ever will because I was on a road trip with my family. The crab rangoons or cheese wontons whatever you prefer we're stale And even though The taste wasn't bad, there was hardly any filling. My entree I actually can't remember what I ordered but it tasted very off and I became ill very quickly. It wasn't anything serious as I felt better the next day after waking up in the hotel but it put me off my food for the rest of the evening. I'm leaving this because it seems like this was a great establishment at one point, but it's been lagging lately. Perhaps with enough complaints they might bring it back to its former glory.

We ordered wontons and they were doughy. They brought us some more and they were doughy as well. The cook comes out telling me that he’s been cooking since before I was born. He said that he has made and served millions. He said that they’re doughy due to the soft cheese inside. I have eaten wonton from several places in and outside of WV and I’ve never had doughy ones. I’ve made them from scratch at home and I’ve had the frozen one still never doughy. The cook said that he could take them off the bill. When it was time to pay the server thought it was a good idea to go back and forth with me because she didn’t want to take them off. She told me that I shouldn’t have ordered them, as if I knew they’d be doughy. And to top it all off, there were ants on the table. Worst experience ever! We ordered to meals at $22.95 a piece both with rice. When the food came, they gave us one bowl of rice and said that they put the two orders into one. SMH THEY NEED TO CUT IT OUT.

First time here but I can tell this place has been here for a long time and has been taken care of. Our waiter was super nice but unfortunately I didn't like the food enough to come back. Vegetable egg roll had a different taste that I didn't care for and the Mixed Vegetables stir fry was too oily for me. Didn't see a ton of vegetarian options.

Great food and vegetarian options

This place used to be my go to. I'm not entirely sure what changed, or what the reason is for the food tasting the way it does. I just had to send my 2nd order with this place back. and it's very rare I do that, unless something is messed up with the order, and they are usually pretty good and understanding about this stuff. but today, the food was just below minimal expectations with this place. When we called the owner picked up, and we told him about the food, He kinda took offense and told us that our taste may have changed (considering we are usuals there the food this time was way worse then the last time we were there). the owner said they make everything fresh, but most of this just seemed to be a bland version of what I was used to tasting from this place. the cheese wontons were a bit stale like they sat under a heat lamp, bout the only thing worth eating out of that order was the fried pork pot sticker. I understand that working this kind of job can be challenging, and bare no ill will of this place, just my review of this place has bumped down, to a 1 star. I hope to revisit this in the near future and give a better review. This has always been my favorite place in town to go get chinese food.

I ordered a sweet and sour chicken combination plate, with fried rice and and egg roll, and a side of cheese wonton. Cheese Wonton and egg roll was great. I was unaware sweet and sour chicken included fried pork wonton and deep fried pork pieces as well. Not thrilled. It wasn't very good. Looked like it was just thrown together, hardly any chicken and the rice didn't smell right. I usually love Chows. Disgusted today.

Good food and service will go back

Very surprised when I pulled into their parking lot, so large for many cars. The inside was very decorative . The waitress (Marlene) was very smooth, experienced, attractive, very good professional server and very friendly!

Best chinese restaurant in the Beckley area. Large portions and perfectly prepared meals. It's a little out of the way, but it's worth 5 minutes of drive from the main drag to get there. It's also about 5 minutes off of the turnpike.

Ordered pick up. I had not had their Orange Beef in forever. Just as good as I remember.

This is the best Chinese anywhere within the next few hours of driving… their steamed dumplings are homemade and incredible!!

Highly recommended. Chicken fried rice was delicious.

Local legendary place to dine-in or take-out. Staff is lovely. Food is legitimately better than any Chinese restaurant I've been in across the East coast in major cities. If you're looking for Chinese, this is the spot.

We are local and have enjoyed young chows for many years. Until recently. Things have changed and not for the better. It all started when we were seated and our orders were being taken. My wife is allergic to MSG and we are careful to order her food without msg . She did that and was told and I quote “honey, this is a Chinese restaurant and we do not make food without msg”. Wife said, that’s funny we have ordered it that way for years. The waitress stormed off to the kitchen and returned and told with a smart Alec attitude that we can get it without msg after all. We contemplated just leaving at that point but decided to stick it out and stay. Wife told her she didn’t like her attitude and she stormed off to the kitchen again and a new waitress appeared and told us she didn’t know what happened but she would be taking care of us. She was really efficient and service was quick. Then out from the kitchen comes the cook and proceeded to educate us on what msg was, waving his hands and telling us we ate at Macdonalds and we ate at chick filet and they all have msg in their food and my wife told him we don’t eat at either of those places-ever. Once again we contemplated leaving but decided to stick it out. We should have just left but I can gaurantee we will not be back

Love this little place and was so happy to introduce my fiancé to a restaurant I loved to visit as a treat as a teen. The special chicken and garlic sauce chicken hit all the right spots, and I love the complimentary wonton chips!

The foods are great, specially the cocktails! The atmosphere is also very cozy. Overall a great experience for a very reasonable price!

I have been coming here for over twenty years and the quality has gone down hill. Eat in only. If you order take out you will get ripped off.

I ordered delivery at work and my chicken was raw when I called to tell them they started screaming at me saying there was no way their chicken was raw it’s impossible. He said over and over “No way you had raw chicken theres no way” We had a large order and he said “it took two hours just to place your order and then we even delivered it” I said well that is your job isn’t it? He asked me what I wanted and said if I wanted more I would have to come get it however I couldn’t because I’m at work that’s why I had it delivered. He said well with big ordered every piece of chicken cannot be checked I said as far as I know everyone’s is good except mine and he said “Aren’t you lucky and special you got the raw chicken” I asked for my money back and he started screaming for my card number I had to give it to him about 3 times. But I never got my money back.. I guess he thought I was lying. He said “You work in hospital you get frustrated with customer too” I said no not really.. He was mad we had 6 different orders with different cards and wanted it delivered. Anways whoever I talked to was really horrible to me and I’m sad my chicken was pink cold and slimy

My family went to Young Chow's quite a few times for lunch and dinner. Every time that we went the food was great and we enjoyed all the various dishes we ordered. We had different dishes from lunch and dinner specials to al carte items. The restaurant seems to do well and is always busy, but they seem perpetually understaffed. On several different occasions, we had the same waitress who was the only one working as the wait staff for the entire restaurant. It didn't affect our experience, but they should consider hiring some additional employees to help existing staff.

Always the best food, service and atmosphere

The food was great, my friend and I ordered a variety of things and everything was really good. Our waitress was fantastic, very friendly and helpful. I also really enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and the beautiful Phoenix statue on the way in.

Young Chows is a wonderful place to eat, or bring your girl for a sweet date. The owners are absolutely wonderful people.

We had delivery to hotel. Food was so bad. Our won ton soup was in a deep brown salty broth. My moo goo gai pan was also in dark soy sauce base. We had the worst food ever in the US for Chinese food. Horrible.....

Old fashioned sit down Chinese. All dishes are fresh prepared. Complimentary cabbage slaw is placed on your table immediately. Nice touch. Friendly staff, exceptionally clean, Young Chows is our go to Chinese restaurant whenever we eat Chinese. Highly recommend.

Everything about Young Chows exceeded expectations! Service was quick and friendly, food was tasty and plentiful, price was super reasonable. The place was clean and had a nice atmosphere. Absolutely would recommend

Food was just okay. Cost too much for the quality IMO. Also why ask how you would like your steak prepared if it’s just gonna come out well done and covered in sauce?

My wife and I waited over 2 years to go back to this horrible place in hopes that it changed back into the place we use to go to when we first got married. UNBELIEVABLE! This nasty filthy place has not only not changed but it got worse! The owner husband is the rudest, ungrateful, person I ever came across. Their delivery driver is just as rude. The food was still horrible as if time stood still. I wouldn’t recommend this place to a Dog Convention!!! Stay away and stay healthy!! Order at your own risk! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!! Oh, and one more thing, they’re kitchen looks like a back alley that’s infested with RATS!!!

The shrimp in red chili sauce, hunan beef, fried rice, pina coladas - all wonderful!!! Great service too!

This was my very favorite place. It has really went down hill fast. The prices are not competitive. Tonight I ordered a large moo goo Gia pan and I got a half order. After asking them. They responded with . It was the end of the night and the gave me what was left. The charged me full price and offered no discount. They have lost a long time customer for sure.

I have been a loyal customer since they were located in Crossroads Mall. Love everything except the egg rolls that have hamburger in them. The complimentary cabbage, chips, and sweet apricot sauce are great. Soups have good flavor. Food was excellent.

I would give less than 1 star if I could.

Had a table of 4 adults. Waited over an hour and never got our food. 4 tables around us were seated after we sat down and received their food. We left and dont plan on returning

To start the lady taking my order was very nice and polite. My order was only $50 for my wife,my mother and myself to include desert, so rather cheap in my opinion. The wait was not long at all and the time seemed to fly because I had a very nice and polite young feller keep me company while I waited for my food. As for the food itself, best daggum Chinese food I've had in a while and one of the few places I've ever seen fried ice cream.

Been coming here since they were at crossroads mall in the 80s. I always get the pungent chicken. Really love the slaw and fried noodles that come out before the meal. Definitely the best Chinese food in southern WV.

We make a point to stop here for a meal when we are near Beckley. This time the slaw appetizer was very very spicy but not sweet. Not as good as it once was. Hubby had Orange Chicken and I had Ta Chen Chicken. Both were excellent as expected. We loved the fried rice as always, but the eggrolls were not the best. We still love the food and will be back!

Main courses are delicious. They make fresh brewed tea instead of that Gold Peak fountain soda nonsense. Staff is lovely. Ambience is awesome, decor is beautiful; they play pleasant jazz & classical at a reasonable volume. The fried appetizers like wontons & spring rolls are not their strongest suit, and the fried bananas have too much sugar. In general, avoid the fried food / pastry. The kung pow chicken is amazing, the sauces are great, the coleslaw is fabulous. The bathrooms could use paper towels or a foot-opener so you don’t have to touch the bathroom door handles. Lunch prices are great. The owners seems super lovely & their carry out kitchen is very convenient but the dining-in is really extraordinary pleasant for this region especially.

Hot and Sour soup is the best I have tasted anywhere in the country. Make sure you get a bag of homemade noodles to go with it. 2019-12-28 as always I can recommend the hot and sour soup as a stand out that cannot be equal by any other. I have come across a combination of two dishes that make an incredible taste sensation. Order the Shredded Beef With Hot Chili Sauce and the Hunan beef and combine them on top of some fried rice and you have a fantastic spicy beef dish! I cannot recommend it enough. 2022-12-23 I come here quite often but today I ordered something I had never ordered before, Ta-Chien Chicken on the lunch menu. It has become my new favorite! For the price. It is an unbelievable deal.

First time visiting. Very nice decor. Linen napkins and china plates. Pleasant staff. Nice luncheon special selections $9.99 including entree with white/fried rice, small egg roll or rangoon and choice of soups. In addition, a light Chinese slaw salad and fried crackers were initially provided. Although I don't live in the area, it would definitely be a location for a follow-up visit. Recommended👍

Whether delivery or carry-out, the food and service have been incredible. Their fried rice is the best I have found in Beckley. They have an extensive menu and everything I have ordered has been cooked perfectly. It always arrives hot.

Absolutely appalling crab rangoon that was left in a hidden part of their freezer only to be rediscovered some time after and served as fresh.

Crab Rangoon was the worst, I have ever had. Taste was terrible My friend ate a bite of broccoli and immediately threw up. I wont eat here again.

Worst Chinese ever, lo mein smelled rotten. Pepper from pepper steak was rotting. Pepper steak covered in really dark sauce to cover up old pepper. Totally gross. 4 stars review must be fake or .......u guys have no idea what your eating.

I feel like they just heated up whatever had been sitting there all day. Soggy noodles, overcooked meat. My daughter had sushi and couldn't even feed it to the dogs. Will not be returning. The people were nice though.

My favorite place to eat in town

I ordered two large veggies for pickup. When I checked the take-out package, the cashier took offense I was checking. Since there were two large containers, I assumed it was correct and paid for the 2 large orders. When I opened the boxes to eat, I found one-third in each box. I was short-changed royally. How they deceive people unabashedly! DO NOT PATRONIZE

I have always enjoyed the food from Young Chow’s, but this was the first night that we ordered close to closing time. It was Saturday night and we ordered at 8:24, and they closed at 10 PM. The food was not nasty but it was not close to what it normally is it seemed like it was rushed and there was not a lot of flavor. A few weeks before we had ordered the Chinese fried dumplings that looked almost like Bao and tonight we got what look like fried Gyoza. All of the dishes were lacking flavor from the rice to the noodles to the mains. It was all around disappointing and make me regret the $57 we spent. I have never had the quality of the food be like that in the 10 years I’ve been eating there. Just very disappointed will not go again near closing.

Ordered takeout. We got the tofu and vegetables and sweet and sour chicken. The folks there are really nice and our older was done quickly, but the food was meh.

Young Chows has been a fixture in our community for some time now. The quality of the food is still good but find the wait staff to be lacking in the customer service area of the overall experience. The experience could be over the top with some tweaks here and there, a happy pleasant warm smile goes a long way 🙂

This has been a family favorite since the mid 80s. Has been difficult to visit at times (with passing of family members) but the food and the memories are always wonderful.

Any trucker’s that stop at the GoMart exit 44 or Tamarack . Young Chow will deliver to your truck.

Poor communication led to a less than stellar experience at this establishment. The taste of the food was as expected for an independent Chinese restaurant. However, we asked if we could get chicken fried rice instead of the rice in the meal and was told "if you want chicken fried rice, I have to charge you for it." Understandable. I was willing to pay upcharge fees for the desired rice. When the food arrived, we were shocked to see the original rice and 2 orders of chicken fried rice as well. When I asked why they couldn't have substituted it, she said "I tried to explain that you'd have to pay for it. Those are a meal in themselves". I explained what we thought by her original statement and assured her if it was explained properly, we would not have paid 26 dollars for rice. No cares were given, and at this time (when all meals are completed), my wife's appetizer egg roll showed up. What should have been about a 40 dollar dinner turned out to be 70 dollars. And while being irritated about the high price and miscommunication, she returned my debit card and receipt for my signature, only to find out they added approximately 5 dollars for a surcharge for using the debit card! This was not posted or communicated. This experience may not occur for you, and I hope it doesn't, bit this experience will deter me from stopping back in on my travels through the area.

I really hate doing this because my husband and I loved this place. Went in yesterday and ordered for a family of five. This is what happened... *Waited an hour to get our food *Sushi comes out to all of us except for my 6-year-old daughter who does not eat sushi. Nothing came out for her. Please serving staff, feed the children first. *Sushi would not hold up to chop sticks and it just fell apart. Every single piece of the 4 rolls we ordered. We did not complain about this. *We ordered protein along with rice and noodles as well. *When the fried rice came out you could clearly see it was steamed rice very bland and had zero flavor. We did not complain about this. *My pork and broccoli had okay flavor, but it came out warm close to room temp and I could not eat it. I decided to pack it up. *My six-year-old ordered rice/noodles with a side of broccoli. She liked it and ate it. Yay... Check please. This is where I got really irritated. I normally don't every look at the bill but this one was handwritten. I just started to look down the list and this is where I noticed that my daughter's small side of broccoli was 8.95. My pork and broccoli cost 12. I told the waitress that I don't feel that I should have to pay 8.95 for a side of broccoli when my meal only cost 3 dollars more than her small side and I got more broccoli in my meal than what she had as a side. She told me she took 3 dollars off, but the receipt did not reflect it. I paid in full and left a decent tip and told them I would never be back. I feel like they tried to take advantage of the fact that a side of broccoli was not listed on the menu, and they wrote a ridiculous number down. It's about the principle and I will not be going back. My bill was 121.00 for 5 people. Standard... but check your bill. They will try to take advantage of you.

Food was OK but quickly disagreed with me. Need some upkeep

Food was over priced, food had no taste egg roll was nasty all that food went in the garbage spent 23 on nothing should have just donate it to them. Never again

I heard a lot of great things about the food here, and my first time was okay. I got fried rice, which was alright and not that flavorful. I also got this bomb sushi that I forgot the name of, but it was basically tuna with sauce wrapped up in deep fried tortilla. Definitely recommend that.

My wife used to eat at this establishment back in the 80s when it was at a local mall so when we were passing through town we stopped for a early dinner. To her disappointment her old favorite (Almond Chicken) wasnt on the menu any more, BUT! Our waiter asked the chef in the kitchen about it and they made it for her ANYWAY! Bravo Guys! Thank you for the Special treatment and EXCELLENT customer Service! 10 Stars!

Rarely do we go to a restaurant or get food to go that we were disappointed in everything we purchased. We had never bought food from here before. We spent approximately $40. We purchased Sesame Chicken, Chicken and Shrimp combo, Crab Rangoon, noodles, wonton soup and a egg roll. The sesame chicken was ordered as the less spicy version and it was crazy spicy. The fried rice wasn't fried at all, the chicken was weird as it was stringy, the Crab Rangoon was flat with very little filling and came without a dipping sauce, the egg roll shell tasted like old oil, and the wonton soup broth was dark brown-almost black-and I have always had it with a golden broth. We didn't eat most of it so it was a waste of money for us. We did get the food to go so I'm not sure if there would be a difference if we ate in the sit down restaurant side.

I would give a zero star if I could. This is place is horrible. It is a shame to be called Chinese food. I ordered a shredded pork in garlic sauce and the port smells. I mean really SMELLS! It was bad. Not only it is not tasty but it is down right unhealthy. I talked to the waitress and she went in to talk to the manager. I was still charged the full price. AVOID this place. It is a THE WORST Chinese restaurant I have ever had, period!

Great meal. Good service. We loved the appetizers, Cole slaw and wontons. Both dinners were delicious. I subbed white sauce for brown on veggies and tofu and my husband was happy with his chop suey with pork. The waitress even verified his choice, thinking he might have been thinking of lo mein. And leftovers for tomorrow. Traditional decor for Chinese restaurant.

So we stopped here on our way back from wv renasance festival.. it was rwccomended by a friendnthat was with us. And let me tell you thatbis the absolute best chinese good ive ever had!

We love young Chows! We go there often. Last night, we took 15 people there for a special dinner. We had one waitress, and she did a fabulous job taking care of us. Salad and chips, soups, egg rolls, spring rolls, our drinks, and our food. She was on top of it!!! My favorite place in our area.

I’ve eaten here for many years and have tried multiple dishes. Everything has always been top quality and good in its own way. My personal favorite is the cashew chicken, but I still have many dishes I want to try. The lunch special is an absolute killer deal ($8-$9 for each entry which includes your choices of main, soup or salad, egg roll or wontons, and white rice or fried). Unless you’re a competitive eater training for a tournament, there is always enough for 2 big meals!

Very disappointed. Young Chows Sushi and Grill which neither one were available. I settled for the BBQ short ribs which were very dry and oily leaving me to believe they were cooked much earlier and just reheated. To be fair they were pretty busy but the customer should have been forewarned. I won't be back.

Very clean and friendly. Was so quiet and peaceful after a long stressful day of driving. The food was outstanding. Best Chinese food we have ever had. It's just a short drive from the interstate and worth it.

The crab Rangoon and fried rice weren't great, but the beef and broccoli was amazing!!! The beef was so tender and flavorful and the broccoli was perfectly cooked too. I'll definitely be ordering from you guys again!!!
