We stumbled onto this beautiful casual eatery in a small shopping center. The outdoor seating area is quaint and the inside is decorated very traditionally. It’s so cozy and we were immediately drawn to the vibe. The service was great and we felt very welcomed. The best part was the food. We had the salmon kebob and a combo kebob. Wow. The flavors are incredible. Portions are so big. We will make this a regular place in our rotation.

I've only gotten takeout. The food is 💯💯💯. I ordered the greek salad and eggplant twice. Both are gluten free. The portions are massive. It's flavorful and fresh. It's a local spot that doesn't cut corners on their ingredients. They even grow their own tomatoes and herbs. For what you get you can't beat the price.

The waiter we had was absolutely lovely! The food was nothing short of scrumptiously delicious and the atmosphere was wonderful. I will definitely be coming back! 10000% recommend!

Friendly service and great Afghan food!

Arrived to have lunch, sign on door specifically states they are open 7/5/24 yet business closed and locked. I called, someone answered, and immediately hung up. Don’t waste your time making the drive for an establishment who opens when they want.

One of the best Afghan restaurants in the area. It is cosy, with limited seating. Excellent service. We loved these entrees -veg Aushack dumplings entree, eggplant entree, potato entree and applies/walnut entree. They were excellent.

We decided to sit outside since the weather has been so beautiful and it was such a great atmosphere. EVERYTHING- the appetizers, main course, the naan bread (LOVED the bread) and the desserts were incredible. I can’t say enough about how delicious and fresh the food was. Will definitely eat here again, wonderful service.

Utterly delicious. We came on a quiet Tuesday evening and were treated to a perfectly spiced feast. We will certainly be back. No, I have no photos to post. We ate it all. Come see for yourself.

Went here with 4 people and everyone loved their food. We started with the appetizer assortment, which was delicious. Then we all got lamb, but in different dishes. Lamb is definitely their menu focus. The flavor combos were different and interesting and they all worked well. Nice wine list by the bottle or glass. We'll definitely go back

I would have given a 0 star if possible. We ordered 3 different food and deserts and the food was so spoiled and poor quality that we couldn’t have more than a bite. I took the food to the store and The manager who was so rude, not only didn’t a knowledge my complaints but sooo rude to tell me to go to mommy and complain. I am so upset and disturbed by the restaurant management and food quality!!

Took a long time before they came & took our order... they forgot to ask us about drinks... Food took forever come... Messed up one order, it prolly coz he took 7 orders without writing anything down... Food taste.. Meh, I've had better Afghan food

Fantastic! We tried the hummus, a pumpkin dish, the steak kabob, and a couple other delicious dishes. We will definitely be back!

This place is just plain excellent. Had family there for dinner, between us pumpkin, eggplant, salmon, beef, chicken, lamb. Perfect preparation, always comes out physically hot. Sauces are great as is the bread. And proprietor and service really sets them apart, very gracious, feels as much like a home as a restaurant. My favorite around here hands down. Look forward to returning, again.

Amazing food and service ! I grew up eating authentic Afghan food and the authentic food from Zamarood reminds me of those happy days. Highly recommend 👍😋

Food is good however they just need to update their prices on the menu and on the web.

My husband and I have come here several times and it is one of our favorite local spots. Friendly service, nice atmosphere, and wonderful food. I especially recommend the appetizer sampler platter (great way to try different menu items in a perfect amount for 2 people).

I got carry out because it was near their midday shut down. (Frankly i would have anyway on this occasion but just reminding diners to be cognizant of their much needed shift break) and it was FANTASTIC. I got two bowls of aush which my son inhaled one, the other made 2 meals for me. I love aush but their's is absolutely perfect. Got a couple apps as well... both so good i think i cried a little. Owner is kind and attentive and let me finish my drink without reminding me we were nearing the shut down (I'd never stay later) and I'm a little mad because this place is on my way home from work and I'll get cravings too often. Fantastic!

Outstanding lunch after hiking at Great Falls. Niaz was wonderful and was more than happy to prepare a table for us on the patio. Food is fantastic and their homemade hot sauce (made from ghost peppers they grow on site) is a wonderful addition to any dish.

This is at least our fifth lunch here in the last seven months. We usually go after hiking Riverbend Park or Great Falls and it is a great motivator. The food is out of this world (my husband was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Afghanistan) and we both live the owner who is charming and welcoming! What a super find!!

Don't go there they sell smelly and raw food they threaten and harass you when you argue.

If you are looking for an authentic Afghani restaurant Look elsewhere. The atmosphere is good the service is okay but the food is not that great I think it is more catered towards non Afghani people. Not to mention but the restaurant is sort of expensive maybe because it is in a expensive area.

Favorite restaurant. Warm, friendly service by owner. Excellent, reasonably priced food. Be warned, however,it a small operation so don't be in a hurry. So many delicious choices.

Excellent Aushak & Zammarod pulao. Better than Aracosia. I could eat this food daily. Shaljam & Kadu are wonderful, you never find those in Indian Restaurant. Yet we ate shaljam & kadu at home in India and now at this Afghan hem :)

what a wonderful find! 5 of us rendezvoused there for a birthday dinner and everyone agreed the food was exquisite-fresh ingredients and inspired seasoning. . My husband is on a no oil vegan diet, and the owner grabbed a zucchini from the garden and the chef created a fennel, squash and chickpeadish that any michelin cook would have been pleased to serve (and everything off the menu was excellent too)The setting was classy and we give the Anatolian red wine a thumbs up as well. we will be back.

Food was so good I wished I had triple the stomach space. Everything was beautifully plated and portions were generous. The owner was super friendly and made us feel at home. Definitely recommend!!

Very bad service don’t waste your time

I like there Aush and Manto very much. I order it often But the Qaboli pulao and Meat stew is not that great to be honest. The meat doesnt have much flavor nor the pulaos.

If I could give this restaurant ten stars, I would. Unbelievably delicious and unique food, super cool environment, fantastic service, and really great value.

We frequented this place before moving, and finally had the occasion to return. Zamarod has that quaint bistro feel, true to its roots. The chandeliers and overall vibe is wonderful. But ohhh, the food is authentic and outstanding. If you have never had Kadu Palow, your life is just incomplete. Fix this. You'll be glad you did.

The food is so delicious, but the waiting time is way too long. If you want your costomers be satisfied and happy pls hire some more people to help. Otherwise there are several other options in the area. We don’t want to change but waiting time is insanely long and it feels worse when you’re hungry.

This was just excellent. I have eaten Afghan food at other restaurants and this restaurant is a shining star - worth a trip to Great Falls. We were very impressed with the quality and tastiness of the food and with the generous portion sizes. We ordered the Aushak dumplings, the zamarod salad, the vegetarian combo entree and the chicken dish with mushrooms. All were excellent. The restaurant feels intimate - the owner is welcoming and friendly. It is a true find and as I live less than 15 minutes away will become one of my go to choices!

Every dish I have tried here over the years is good and tasty. Love the food here.

We both had lamb in a red sauce with a delicious basmati rice dish. So good. We believe the owner was the only server, the place is small, so a little wait here and there. He was very helpful and friendly. However the food was worth every minute. We have family in the area and told them this place is a repeat every visit!?

What a delightful evening from beginning to end. The owner, Dor Niaz showed his wonderful personality and sense of humor as he was leading us to our table. It just got better and better. His recommendations were all spot on. The wine was excellent, entrees very good, special/creative side dishes that he blessed us with, bread out of this world, dessert, atmosphere, etc. etc. Dor is very engaging and we conversed with him on many subjects all the time as he served us. He shared personal stories about himself including cooking in Italy with a bunch of Italian chefs just for themselves to enjoy a feast. I wish I was there:) We discovered Dor's Afghan restaurant as a result of a recent Northern VA magazine article on the area's top 50 restaurants and of course his was one. We will be back but it will be hard to duplicate such a wonderful first time experience.

I've been here twice and both times the service, food, and atmosphere have been beyond amazing. I brought friends with us and they truly enjoyed it.

This is a really wonderful authentic Afghan restaurant. My wife and I go here regularly. Food is always consistently delicious and interesting. Dor, the owner of the restaurant, always sources fresh products. Great atmosphere inside and also nice place to dine outside on a warm day. I can’t say enough good about this place.

Hands down the best Afghani Food in the region. May compete with most of the Kabob restaurants around here as well. I always get the Kebob Murgh (Chicken) and its always cooked to perfection. The staff and owner are always super kind and you can tell how much passion goes into the cuisine. A total gem to Great Falls/NoVA.

Popped in for a late lunch, wasn't crowded. Seated and served quickly. Servings were large enough for two. We got a lamb dish with spinach, which was outstanding.

What a treasure! We loved everything about our experience— our outdoor table (though the dining room was lovely), the wine selection, the relaxed and competent service, the aushak, the mantoo, and especially the Quabili Palow! We will be back.

If I could give this restaurant 10 stars, I would! I’m incredibly impressed by the flavor combinations and the quality of the food. Unfortunately, I don’t come up to this area (from Florida) too often, otherwise I’d go through the entire menu. Cannot wait to come back next time in I’m town! As someone from a ‘Stan country myself, I can vouch for the authenticity.

An absolutely outstanding restaurant. The five of us shared the appetizer sampler and then I had the dish with apples and lamb. An amazing combination of sweet and savory. We also had the rose ice cream and the pudding for dessert. Don’t miss this place— it’s truly a standout.

What a gem of a restaurant. The food was delicious! Muntuu/mantu is one of my favorite dishes and theirs did not disappoint. The dumplings were perfect. The lamb was so tender and well-prepared. A perfect lunch after a hike at nearby Great Falls. I can't recommend it enough!

My husband and I enjoyed dinner outside on their deck. The staff was quite pleasant and the food was very good. We ordered the muntoo (dumplings filled with beef and spices), chicken kebab (juicy and flavorful), lamb (great taste), and cardamom tea (which complemented the spices in the dishes rather nicely). The rice was also excellent, delicately seasoned and cooked perfectly. I highly recommend Zamarod, it’s worth venturing out to Great Falls!

Awesome place. It was busy and there was only one wait staff. He did a great job and was super helpful with picking out food for us and making recommendations about food and drinks.

One of my favorates! Authentic Afgan food that is always excellent. I particularly like the mixed appetizer platter for two or more people and the kabob trio. This is a small place with highly personal service from the owner himself. Before COVID it was hard to get a last minute reservation, but business is just now building back up to a good level. The carryout is just as good as the food in the restaurant, but you will miss the decor and personal service. The food is the attraction, but there is a small wine list that provides high quality wines of various types, and a nice little bar with a moderate selection of drinks.

This is one place I cannot recommend enough. The location seems rather unassuming, tucked in among other places with larger footprint and appeal. But this afgan place excels in quality and diversity of food. Everything we got was so tasty, a treat for the palate. Portions were rather big; be better if smaller so one has space to sample more.

Outstanding food and service. Every dish is superb and kid/grandkid approved. Niaz is an absolute master and we are so grateful to have found Zamarod.

The rack of lamb is fantastic!! It comes with lentils and walnuts mixed with apples as a side dish. The rice is out of this world with large raisins carrots and just the right spices!! The vegetarian dishes are also super especially the pumpkin! Everything there is top notch and because I am a foodie and a culinary art graduate you can take my word on this place or just go and try it!!! And the owner is a really nice person!! He deserves our support!!

Really cozy environment and delicious food that is authentic and tastes homemade. Had the appetizer combo which had mantu and samosa, lamb chops, Quabli Palau, and firnee for desert. It was all very delicious. Highly recommend!

6/27/2021: I ordered carryout 2 years ago, and I loved the food. I came here for dinner and tried different dishes... Oh my goodness, everything was delicious!! I got the short rib special, and the short rib was so tender. We ordered way too much food that I got 2+ meal of leftovers! He did forget that I ordered the Banjan, and I ended up taking that home. I ordered the eggplant and the chicken kabob....amazingly delicious!! This is my first time at this restaurant. The owner and chef is very nice and he answered all my questions. His recipes are his mom's, and I love that because I feel like I am eating home cooked meals. I really enjoyed the decor while waiting for my food. I forgot to ask for sauces, but the food tasted great even without the sauces. I will definitely come back.

HE IS OPEN and you will NOT be disappointed. My family and I have been coming to Niyaz's restaurant since it opened. Salmon is melt in your mouth delish. Never had a bad experience. Be patient as the CHEF/OWNER is doing it all on his own. (thanks to Google & Safari for the misinformation of the restaurant being closed) Most of his business is carryout of late because of the Covid 19, however he does provide a charming outdoor patio!

Zamarod Restaurant is one of the best restaurant in the Town! The food is amazing, the environment is friendly and the customer service is excellent! You won't regret trying this place once!!

Excellent quality: recipes and dish presentation. Multiple reviews here compare the kitchen to the home cooked meals. I agree to the extent that the flavor combination suggests that the cook must have tried their meals before and carefully refined the combination of tastes to perfection (this is no small point!). I disagree in that home cooked meals are usually simple, and here even the side dishes are cooked with the complexity and attention a main dish in most other restaurants would infrequently deserve. Each dish of those we like the best (lamb shank, salmon kebob) combines dozens of ingredients and at least several spices in a unique and complex combination of flavors and tastes that change multiple times between when you first put the food in your mouth and until after you swallow. The owner is very friendly.

This is my favorite place to stop by after visiting the great falls. Have had the hummus, zamarod palow, aushak, and baklava. This place has the best hummus that I have ever eaten so far the aushak is my favorite! The palow is delicious as well. Very good baklava. The customer service is amazing and the atmosphere is really nice!

Had great carry out. The lamb was perfect. Loved the pumpkin and spinach side dishes, but the eggplant side was amazing. Great service too

Delicious Afghan cuisine. Give it a try!

We ordered: Zamarod, Qumne Sieb, Muntoo, Sombosa, hummus, and ice cream. Such a variety of tastes! The apple with the Qumne sieb was especially delicious. The hummus tasted like it was just made. Everything was fresh and high quality. In other Afghani restaurants I’ve been to, the food tends to have a similar taste and it all blends together. Each dish we ordered here had a unique flavor and was a different experience. We ordered the food delivered and it came promptly. It’s a bit pricier than other Afghan restaurants, but well worth the price.

After a long day I search for the best cuisine and as always Zamarod never fails with the best dishes to soothe a soul after a troubling day. The special tonight was short ribs with saffron rice complimented with carrots and raisins with spinach another Star side dish. I highly recommend visiting the restaurant for the ultimate Afghan cuisine experience!

The service was great (even w/outdoor seating due to the virus) and the food SUPERB, EXCELLENT and tasty!!!!! We enjoyed it very much. I had the special today - salmon and my gf had the Quabili Palow (and we each tried some of the other's meal). We were blessed by the presentation and taste of our food since neither of us like real spicy food. Will go again!!!!!!
