Outstanding food, service and atmosphere. Prices were very reasonable and drinks were good.

The food is "ok". Nothing really edgy. The staff very nice. Preparation is fairly standard. I would say that carpet in the entrance way was not a good choice. It's started to smell over the years. I'd return and encourage one to try but if you are looking to be "blown away" by the culinary experience you may be a bit disappointed.

Dirty basement environment, food wasn't good, waitress forgot one of our parties orders, wait was very long!!

He had the lamb and I had New York strip. I also had the peanut butter cup martini. It was just he and I this time. Last time we brought my daughter. It's about $50 a person with food drink and appetizers. Beautiful plates and delicious place to dine.

Our first time here and could not have been more pleasantly surprised! We had made reservations so were seated immediately. Server took our drink order and returned in record time. We ordered our dinners - Beef stroganoff with garlic bread and a 2 appetizer combo of wedge salad and crab cakes. All were excellent and the stroganoff was such a generous portion we will be splitting the remainder for dinner in the future.

We go often. Great menu and great staff. Summer is the best!

My partner and I went for our anniversary and we couldn't believe we'd never gone here before! For an appetizer, we got the brushetta, which is very tasty but is actually just a caprese. He got the tuna steak and I got the salmon. We split a slice of cake at the end (lemon cream?). Good prices and great food.

We were visiting the area with a large group of family and the restaurant was very accommodating. The restaurant was very nice with excellent decor and a superb atmosphere. The staff were very professional, attentive, and friendly. The food was out of this world and worth every penny. The quality was exceptional, and I asked to speak to the chef personally to praise him and his team. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Always a great place to get together with family to celebrate birthdays, etc. I live in Scarborough, but grew up in Fairfield and still have family in the area. The drive for dinner is worth it, the portions are huge and the leftovers are great.

It's been several years since we gathered at 18 Below with friends. The seating and ambiance remain unchanged, and the menu remains similar over time. We had an order of crab cakes and calamari as starters, and both of these were satisfying although there appeared to be equal proportions of calamari with other items on the plate. The big disappointments came with our entrees. Years ago we had found that the Ahi Tuna that came out of the kitchen was not prepared as ordered - rare. This continues to be true. The Tuna entree arrived over cooked, along with rice that needed seasoning, and cooked beets that were okay. Our lamb chops were under cooked, having been ordered medium rare but arriving a bit on the blue side of the scale. The sides, here, didn't differ from our other meal. All-in-all, we found a return to 18 Below will likely be our last attempt at frequenting the restaurant when we are in town.

Stood at the host stand for 10 minutes with servers walking by before we were ever greeted. There were only 2 other tables so they weren’t busy. I ordered the scallops, they weren’t burnt to a crisp on one side, and then fell apart in a weird way almost like they weren’t true scallops. My partner had the tuna, and again it was way over cooked. Seems like there needs to be some training back there.

Some of the driest and overcooked salmon I’ve had in my life. My wife got the brisket and it was probably the worst example of brisket I’ve ever seen. Smothering something in BBQ sauce and then calling it brisket should be a crime. One of the “cooks” short guy with glasses was walking through the dining area with his gloves still on. Came back with a drink from the bar with the same gloves on and went back into the kitchen. Absolutely disgusting.

So.... nothing bad to say about the place. The food was delicious, and service exceptional. I am just an old fat guy who is also a simpleton. I recognize that the food was delicious and had great choices with good portions....but honestly lost on me. Simple burger and fries is more my style.Not the restaurant's fault. Dishes range from $20-$40 or so. If you are out to impress the wife or in-laws with casual fine dining while wearing jeans....this is the place.

Fantastic meal and service in a really cozy atmosphere

This was an amazing meal. The portions were very generous—including cocktails—and the service was fantastic. Our server (who my daughter thought looked like Kelly Clarkson) was so nice and patient. It was our first night in Maine and this was a delicious start. Oysters were fresh, steak and fish were great. Highly recommend!

I called to make a reservation and got their answering machine. Left a message as instructed and never got a call back.

Everything was phenomenal. The pasta I had with the arctic char was so good! We picked the place because it had so many seafood options on the menu. We were initially turned away because it was a busy night for reservations. But the host, Gordon, was so awesome. He made it work for us between an upcoming reserved space. We were very impressed with the service and even more impressed with the food. 11/10, would definitely enthusiastically recommend.

The escargot is delicious as well as the tiger shrimp!

Recommendation for our Anniversary. Researched ahead of time. They were right about getting there early to have the best selection (out of everything scallop and the stroganoff when we arrived. Out of most desserts by the end). Every bite of food was as I'd expected, and we went in with high expectations. Shrimp Cocktail (HUGE shrimp), Escargot (not at all chewy), Salmon (Husband asked if I could learn to make it), Ahi Tuna with the Deviled Egg Cavatappi subbed for rice cause I wanted to try it. Literally every bite was delicious. Our Server was clearly stressed, but there were a lot of guests and he was hustling. He hid a piece of cheesecake for my Husband, which he wouldn't have gotten otherwise. The only other choice was the Lemon Cake, but that's what I would have chosen anyway. Very happy.

Expensive, but worth it. (Make a reservation) Had the Maine crab cakes for the appetizer, paired well with the lemon aioli. I had the Seafood Newberg. While the sauce was a little runny, the seafood was perfectly cooked. The rice and green beans were also yummy. Highly recommend.

Legitimately one of the best dinners my dad and I have had in our entire life. The salmon was THE BEST. This place has a really cool vibe and good beer selection, but the food just blew us away. Can't recommend enough.

From the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome! Our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu which made it so easy to order oysters specifically! The atmosphere was so relaxed n beautiful. Was the best meal we have had in Maine!

Had an absolutely wonderful meal this past week. The menu has a large selection of items making it almost too hard to choose but I ended up with the Tiger Prawn Shrimp Scampi and my wife had the Duck offering. We shared an Escargot appetizer and my only complaint is it comes with too little bread to soak up all that great garlic and butter so had to order some garlic bread that did the trick. The Wine and Beer choices were very good and the dessert was a perfect Italian Strawberry Cream Cake.

Absolutely loved this place! Such an absolutely beautiful little hole in the wall, I almost walked by and am so glad I didn't! The food was to die for, the staff was kind, and the atmosphere was nicer than any I've been to in awhile! I have the duck and had to resist getting seconds! 100% going back soon!

The best thing about this evening is that we had the opportunity to visit with dear fiends. The decor and ambiance are sorely lacking. Our tattooed and bearded servers clearly have to take a remedial class on basic service. We had to wait 15 minutes for our drink orders to be taken. We had to wait 50 minutes after our orders were taken to receive our food. The servers had to be asked to refill our beverages. No attempt was made to check back regularly to gauge our satisfaction. My scallop entree was charred and burnt on the outside. Juice had been cooked out of the item. Entree was accompanied by what was supposed to be fluffy rice (not) and green beans. I like my beans Al dente but these were almost raw. The plate had no garnish of any kind and so presentation was absent. My wife’s shrimp appetizer was a half dozen shrimp laid in an ice bed. No attempt was made to have the dish look appealing. Our friend had a rack of lamb which turned out to be overcooked (after friend requested medium rare). Another fish dish was unrecognizable. I could go on but you get the picture.

Honestly, this was our second visit and we brought our family from out of town to eat based on our first visit. This was one of our worst dining experiences in Waterville and that's saying a lot. We had reservations for 8 at 7pm. Our server was distracted the entire time trying to close up the restaurant. If the restaurant was closing up early, they should have let us know before that sat us. The food was mediocre at best and they were out of menu items, something the server was not clear about. We had to bus our own table the entire time. It took 45 minutes to get our food in an empty restaurant and we didn't receive items we requested. And several of us don't feel well after eating the meal. I would highly recommend you not getting one of the booths which is across from the kitchen. Very distracting. Kitchen workers were coming in and out, not dressed for blending in. The restaurant is located downstairs. I did not notice any handicapped accessibility. The parking lot is across the street. Make sure to lock your vehicle. Over all this is a good restaurant. Very good food with fair prices and good service. There is a bar in another room, and a larger room for larger groups. . We would eat here again.

My coworkers and I like to have nice family style dinners while we are away from the comforts of our homes and families. I made the reservation so that we could try the cuisine in this New England city together. We arrived at different times and some of my coworkers were seated before I arrived. As soon as the male server with glasses saw me, he immediately said party for Angel is around the corner. No welcome or greeting. I found it odd, but immediately knew it was definitely one of many micro aggressions we would experience before the night was over when another one of my coworkers mentioned the same thing without me telling her my experience. The next thing that occurred was the blatant attitude from the waitress when one of my coworkers asked for a fresh glass of ice. When he asked for a new glass, she snapped back at him that there were glasses on the table. He asked for a fresh one because he was unsure of who’s glass was in front of him. She reluctantly brought it out to him. As we were ordering our meals, there were a lot of questions asked about the food clearly because we aren’t from the area. When one of my coworkers asked how a particular steak was cooked and if it was a nice dish, she snidely said as long as you don’t ask for it well done it should be fine. The thing that finally made me lose my appetite completely and made me feel extremely uncomfortable in this space was when our entrees were finally brought out to us. The male waiter with glasses brought out two salmons there were ordered. My coworker instructed that he ordered his with extra glaze and the one he was given was not made that way. The server took it back and came back with both and said that it was correct while roughly placing the plate in front of my coworker. He then didn’t bother to ask who the other belonged to and placed the second plate in front of the wrong person. When that coworker exclaimed it was not his but instead the person in front of him the waiter picks up the plate and slams it down in front of her yet again while stomping away. That immediately changed the dynamic of the table. To add insult to injury another coworker received her scallops that were burnt and tasted bitter. When she exclaimed this to the waitress, she argued with her that the scallops were glazed not burnt (at the beginning of dinner she revealed doesn’t even eat seafood so how would she actually know). She then in true fashion angrily asked for the plate back while rolling her eyes and returned it to the kitchen. Sure enough the scallops came back out not burnt the second time. By this time every person at the table felt and experienced how we were being treated versus the table behind us. One of my coworkers didn’t even bother to order because he didn’t trust the restaurant. I asked for a to-go box and check because I refused to finish any meal in that environment. Once they realized we no longer felt comfortable their attitudes shifted but definitely too late. I still have 2 weeks left in this town that lacks people who look like me and I will not recommend to the other 50 coworkers I have in town also working this restaurant. Don’t waste your money. We will never eat there again. We use to love this restaurant and were looking forward to returning post Covid. What a disappointment. The food was horrible. The salmon was dry. The escargot chewy. The calamari ok. It was served with tartar sauce, not marina sauce or lemons. The so called large sized ribeye steak was so thin it was almost invisible. The mashed potatoes so watery that it ran across the entire surface of the plates engulfing the meat. Vegetables over cooked and soaked with watery mashed potatoes. This is our go to place for dinner with family or visitors from out of town. We know we can always get a wonderful fresh meal here. Tge crab cakes are delicious and every appetizer we have had was excellent. I absolutely love the crab stuffed haddock and recently took my 93 yr old mother there and she went by my recommendation and loved it too. Out of about a dozen visits, I've had the haddock 10 times and it is consistently wonderful every time. The cocktails are the best as well. We love 18Below. The staff is always wonderful, but we will always miss Steve. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
