We went to a location earlier in the week that was ripe with family history. Addis Nola was ripe with cultural history. Shout out to Blaze. Since we never had Ethiopian food, Blaze did an excellent job explaining all the dishes his family made. We mixed it up so we could do a taste and share. Started with a great drink called the Woo. Then it was on to the special cultural dishes. We had chicken Tibs, chicken Wot and Mar Mitmita shrimp. Do not pass this place up when you are in New Orleans. You will be missing out on some great food that you wouldn't normally get a chance to try. And make sure to eat with your hands. Check them out and decide for yourself.

I visited here last Sunday. The service was excellent the food was top notch. My favorite dish were the beets. Let me tell you Blaze cooks and serves his guest with love and respect. I will be going back again and again. Oh and the bread pudding was outstanding! You are missing out if you pass on this Nola gem by way of the Motherland.

The food was delicious and had a bit of tang to it. I loved the spice level, the samosa was a good way to start the meal. The spicy margarita was delicious. The fish is a whole meal in itself , it’s crispy on the outside ; soft in the inside and packed with flavor my favorite dish of the meal. I personally like my lamb to fall apart , it was a little tangy for me and a bit tough. The overall experience was perfect and I would definitely stop by the next time I’m in NOLA. I felt the service was a bit slow, owing to staffing issues none the less the person taking the order was extremely courteous.

Addis was amazing! I decided I wanted to have my 30th birthday here and it was an excellent choice! The dinner started off being for 6 then as everyone heard where it was it went up to 16 people! The restaurant was super easy to work with and They were so kind and accommodating! Our server Blaze was knowledgeable and attentive and explained all of the dishes for the people who hadn’t had Ethiopian before and also was very accommodating to the guests with food sensitivities (including a vegan with garlic and onion allergies)! They did the most to make me feel special for my birthday! I’ve loved the food since they were at the broad location and I’m telling you that veggie combo on Uber eats helped me survive during deep Covid times. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and they were more than accommodating and even Sang to me with this really cool sparkler and brought out a special dessert. I literally had a disaster day before coming to dinner but the server blaze and the food made up for all of that and everyone enjoyed everything!!!!

I was a little disappointed in the dining experience. I booked a reservation that was supposed to include preferred seating. When we arrived, it did not go that way. I verbally requested booth seating at the restaurant, which is clearly the preferred seating. We were told that because we did not specifically request in the notes section, then we could not receive. First, there are no such instructions provided anywhere. If you’re new to Addis and unfamiliar with setup, how could you know? In addition, I went back to the platform I used to book, and there is no notes section. I must say, our server, was absolutely amazing!

We love this restaurant and in a city where it seems like there is never enough time to eat at all the delicious places, we’ve eaten here multiple times. Tonight I booked a reservation for 7 adults and 3 kids.(note: 2 babies and 1 toddler) We love the quality of the food here, the unique drink options and the ambience. Everything is always delicious, high quality and the service is usually fantastic. I’m writing this review because we had a negative experience tonight I want to address. I eat out with my young children frequently. They are not overly loud or obnoxious. They make minimal mess and my husband and I get on the floor after every meal to wipe up the mess they will make — because they are children. At the end of our meal tonight, we were asked to leave an additional ten dollars on the tip line for a “cleaning fee” Note: not a fee I was informed upon at the start of the meal for kids, not a button in the computer that charged additional gratuity — an additional Tip. I asked the server away from the table if this was because we had kids. He said it was because of the mess. I attached a photo of the mess under one of the high chairs. The mess on this table was no more than adults leave and certainly nothing crazy a broom and an average wipe down would have taken care of. I’m just so disappointed because Addis is my go to when I have out of town guests or need to make a reservation for a large party. I informed the server I had no problem with paying a fee for a big mess if I had been informed before. But I wasn’t and also — I assume this isn’t restaurant policy because I was asked to leave an additional cash tip, not a button from the POS system. I have an Instagram where I rate how kid friendly restaurants are in New Orleans — I’m not delusional and know my meager amount of followers isn’t going to make a difference, but I’m just so disappointed because Addis already doesn’t have changing tables and a limited amount of high chairs, but to also have this experience tonight was a bummer. If you don’t want kids in your restaurant institute a policy like N7. Preferably, because I love the food, inform your staff how to make families feel welcome, not ostracized.

I had a great time at Addis Ethiopian Restaurant. The atmosphere was really laid-back and the food was delicious. One tip: be prepared to wait or make a reservation in advance. I went during Essence weekend, so it was particularly busy. In general, this isn’t a place to visit for a quick bite unless you’re getting takeout. To fully enjoy the experience, plan to stay a while. The chef is awesome, and the food is so authentic. I can’t wait to go back! About Addis: Addis Ethiopian Restaurant is a new gem in the sea of amazing New Orleans restaurants. Not only is it family-owned and Black-owned, but it is also one of the only two Ethiopian restaurants in the entire state of Louisiana. As part of Dr. Alemayehu’s vision for a greater New Orleans, Addis NOLA was created to connect New Orleans and the diaspora to the land of origin, Ethiopia. The name “Addis” comes from the capital city of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, and translates to “New Flower.” By connecting these two cities, Addis Ababa and NOLA, you get Addis NOLA, a New NOLA.

Update: Came back for lunch with friends and everything we ordered was so damn good. We could've ordered from the brunch menu but ordered from the full dinner menu instead. Started with the Kifta app, which was the best Kifta I've ever had. I've had both cooked and raw versions, this was something in between. But the butter/seasoning they use is on another level. She got the mar mitmita shrimp which had a fair amount of shrimp hidden in that small cauldron of veggies, peppers, spices and honey. The heat builds slowly, really nice. We ordered the Siga, which is a temple to all things meat. Last time I got all veggies. Their tibs is a little different from versions I've had before has they use a red wine reduction that you can taste. It adds another layer to the traditionally spiced style Ive had previously. I preferred the lamb over beef, but Ill almost always pick lamb over beef if given a choice. The Ribeye would be that exception. Hands down best steak I've had ever. Don't eat a lot of them, especially ribeyes, but flavor and texture of this was outstanding. Not sure they even asked how we wanted it cooked, she prefers medium well, but came med rare. She ate it anyway. Plus the *steak sauce that came with it somehow made it better. It's a huge platter so we ended up with leftovers of everything except the ribeye. I almost forgot about the drinks, we all got a Right Bayou, which we had to wait a little longer for as they had to make the syrup fresh. Well worth the wait, these are dangerously good. Service was a little better this time, we still found ourselves waiting to pay at the end. But the food was so good I'll gladly put up with it. Looking for something I can't have as I'm coming back from the airport, I came here on a suggestion from local friends. There's no Ethiopian anywhere near my hometown, so this is a break from the everyday. This is a large restaurant with plenty of large group seating, as Ethiopian is a more communal experience. The inside is well decorated and stands in contrast with some of the area surrounding it. After arriving about an hour before they closed, we were seated immediately and given menus. The service was awkward for lack of a better term. Not sure if the person was just young and/or inexperienced but the service was off. It took almost 15min to get our drinks, which as the bartender wasn't their fault, but they were absent the entirety of that time. We could've used more water or asked questions about the menu. When we got our beverages they took our order, but again didn't check back until our food arrived. We ordered the Sambusa( beef and lentil)veggie combo. The Sambusa is basically a deep fried dumpling, similar to samosas. The food was phenomenal. The veggie platter had an excellent variety of flavors. Maybe it's something 'new' and exciting(not really, I've had Ethiopian before) or I was hungry, but everything was on point. Again the service wasn't exemplary, as they were absent the majority of our meal, except a 20min span when they asked for refills twice. Ended the night having issues getting the bill to pay and leave. I don't want to make it seem like the server was intentionally rude or lazy, I was expecting better given the venue. I'm going to come back, the food was just too damn good, and the interior is very pleasant. Just hoping they work out some of their service issues.

Would say first or second but you want em to like you before you start devouring the delicious food served. The service I received from Blaze was outstanding. Very respectful gentleman while also playful and knowledgeable. He was happy to tell about the customs of the culture and the different verbiage used. The food came out quick hot and delectable. I’m glad it’s normal to eat this food with your hands because I ate so quickly I don’t think a fork and knife could’ve kept up. We dined on Alemayehu "The World" and while it says serves three people it easily served four with left overs. I couldn’t have been happier with our service, our food, or the setting. My recent visit to Addis Nola for brunch left much to be desired. Upon prompt arrival, my party was dismayed to find that our table was not ready despite having made a reservation, and the restaurant was nowhere near full capacity. We ended up waiting 30 minutes past our reservation time before being seated. The disappointment continued as we waited an additional 30 mins to receive a half cup of coffee, which we had to request twice. At $4, we were only served Splenda or Stevia (no sugar) and were never offered refill. To add to our frustration, we hungrily watched tables with larger parties seated after us receive their food. When our food did arrive, the blueberry pancakes were dense and unlike any regular pancakes, leaving us wondering if they were made with buckwheat or some other ingredient. I am fully aware this is an Ethiopian establishment but the deviation was still unexpected as the menu (which had tiny print even with reading glasses) did not indicate it. The texture was not appetizing at all. Additionally, the greens tasted like they were from the can. Hello, Glory Greens. Despite expressing our concerns to the manager after 90 minutes of waiting with nothing on our table except for water and cold coffee, he remained silent and offered no apology or resolution. Finally, upon receiving our bill, we noticed we were overcharged compared to the prices on the menu. When we questioned the waitress, she explained that the individual prices on the bill included taxes, but we were also taxed on top of that, which seemed nonsensical and left yet another bad taste in our mouths. I previously visited Addis Nola for dinner and had a decent experience, so I am giving it two stars. However, based on this disappointing brunch experience, everyone in my group has decided not to return, which is unfortunate, as I was happy to support it initially.

Man, everything about this place is great. This was my first Ethiopian food experience with some friends and everything was absolutely delicious. The decor and interior design was really lovely and all the staff were super friendly and accommodating. Definitely will be going back.

Went here after the great raves of family for takeout. Was told 10 min wait only to wait more like 45 min. In addition, once we got home we were sadly disappointed as the red snapper was dry, lifeless and lacked spices. The shrimp tibs was the proportion of what a toddler would receive and eat, $70 down the drain! We really had high hopes for this place but it was truly an epic fail!

So we were a big group visiting NOLA. The service was slow at first... the food came out fast and it was done right. I had the rice dish and it was tasty very spicy but tasty. All of the food was spicy. I needed a reprieve from the heat, water was not cutting it. We had our own DJ so the music set the tone. Hand washing and proper etiquette as far as serving and pouring with the water and the glasses. We noticed that it wasn't the most sanitary display. Other than that the food was good. Service was friendly and our large party had a great time. We were able to sit outside as well as inside and the bathroom was clean.

Veggie sambusa with lentils 8/10 - The pastry was flakey and perfectly buttery without being too oily. The lentils on the inside match perfectly with the sweet yet tangy sauce. The lentils are very lightly flavored but it works with the sauce to bring out there flavors. Addis special 10/10 - Made primarily of beef it has the perfect amount of heat mixed with the most delicious spices that leave your mouth watering and wanting to eat more. It comes with some injera to eat with and that on its owns I could snack upon all day! My main course was the specialty veggie combo and I add awaze tibs 10/10- The veggie combo has everything you need to try if it’s your first time having Ethiopian food adding on the awaze tibs filled my extra need for meat along side all the veggies. It matches perfectly and is also a constant staple when I get Ethiopian food. My server was so kind as to add on some rice to the place even though it doesn’t come with the combo and it was absolutely perfect. It was light, fluffy, and flavorful even though it was just rice. I think it is a good side to add if someone in your party doesn’t enjoy the injera. Injera 10/10 - The injera is just about the most delicious injera that I’ve ever tried and I’ve gone to a few different Ethiopian restaurants. The injera is the sour spongy flat bread that comes along with the veggie combo/awaze tibs/addis special. The food is made to work perfectly with the flat bread At the end of the meal you’re going to be wanting to eat more and thinking about it every time before you go to sleep for the next week… maybe even month! The entire staff is wonderfully kind and attentive just like they say…it’s family style food and everyone there is family and they WILL make sure you know it and feel like it.

When I came in, I ordered coffee the bartender just dropped it off walked away. Didn’t give me any time to request anything else. The milk he bought me had a bug in it. He never replaced my coffee. Then they had my order wrong. The bartender proceeded to have a argument with me in front of other customers, embarrassing me. It would be a big problem if I told my husband, but it’s not worth the trouble. Food looked good poor customer service

I have been wanting to try Addis Nola for years but never got around to going. This weekend that changed and I hate that I haven't gotten there sooner. I enjoyed everything from the service to the food. We went early evening but by the time we were wrapping up every table in the building was occupied and understandably so, the food is delicious. We started with the collard green sambusas which were sooo good. The dipping sauce that came with it was the perfect finishing touch. For the entree we ordered a shared the whole fried snapper, which was the best fried fish I've ever had, so juicy and well seasoned. We also had the Mar mitmita shrimp which was delicious, spicy but paired well with the jasmine rice. We also had spinach tibs which was great. We finished the meal with the bread pudding which a great finishing touch to a perfect meal. I hate I didn't take any pictures but I was too busy enjoying the food, the pics won't do the flavor justice anyway. Just try it, you will not regret it!

First time eating Ethiopian food, and when I tell you, this place exceeded my expectations! The food is delicious, and I had to different orders. The atmosphere is amazing, and we sat in the booth, and the waiter knows the memo very well and suggested the perfect food choice for us. I don't normally drink the water from restaurants because it's normally tap, but they have spring water, and it was very fresh and clear! I will definitely be back soon!

Whenever we visit new place if any Ethiopian restaurant nearby we definitely try them. They have platter with multiple side so that is one thing must definitely try. Had delivery from this place. Ordered veggie platter for one it was really good. Came with 7 side and all were good. Injera portion was less else everything was too good. Either they can mention the no of injera so additional one can order or just add some extra 🙂

Dined here while in NOLA this past weekend (2/24/24). Bell sat us and served us. The dishes we had (veggie plate & fir fir were our main dishes. Appetizers were delicious even though i don’t remember what he had. DELICIOUS was everything we got! For three people sharing the two dishes & three appetizers, it was like $123.00. I will be revisiting this restaurant when i come back to town! Thinking of making a special trip just for the food!

Romantic atmosphere, convenient handwashing station, absolutely delicious food, and wonderful service. I’ve gone here with family and on a date. Both times the recommendations were helpful to match servings with party size. Drinks are some of the best I’ve had in New Orleans, which is saying something. Nonalcoholic beverages and vegan options you can order without feeling like you’re missing out on the menu. So flavorful and aromatic. For reservations, I had some trouble using the default Google reservation system, but I’m sure calling ahead would work fine.
