The women who I believe to be the owner is a wonderful women who when I first entered after passing by so many times gave me samples of the home made root beer and chili. And let me say not only was the service so wonderful but the robot beer and chili were great. I finally got to enjoy a meal there having 1 chili do a Colby plus and a hot dog by the name I think Alle Dog. And each of them were great along with a frosted cup root beer. I definitely plan on coming again and perhaps becoming a regular just because of how friendly the owner is but the food is good along with it. Not only that but I want to finish looking st all the photos and news paper clippings to learn of the history more.

With a friend’s recommendation I came here for lunch and I’m glad I did. Cooks is a cool, old-fashioned sort of hot dog restaurant with a lot of great options. The root beer comes in ice cold mugs, and the hot dogs were prepared quick and fresh. I pigged out a bit and tried 4 different hot dogs: the chili dog, the Carolina slaw dog, the Venezuelan dog with potato sticks, and the Dutton general store dog with its old relish recipe. Everything was delicious, and it didn’t feel excessive in the end. The relish on the Dutton general store dog was wonderful, but I think the Carolina dog covered in coleslaw was probably my favorite. The patio with the small garden was very pleasant in the warm weather, and I had no complaints at all. Cooks is a great place that should be known to everyone in the greater GR area.

With over 75 years of experience, they obviously know what they are doing! Stop off for a couple of digs, great,frosted mug rootbeer, and top it off with Hudsonville Ice Cream. Or, make a GREAT rootbeer float. No matter how you do Cooks, you can not go wrong!

Was searching for a place to celebrate our anniversary this year with our kids and remembered cooks I always drive by on the way to work. We finally checked it out and I’m so mad we didn’t go earlier! Great food, cute atmosphere and such friendly staff. Great family friendly restaurant, will visit again.

A must try for any traveler! Was in town for work and Cooks came recommended from locals. Stopped for lunch and was greeted by the amazingly friendly staff and welcomed with a nice cold homemade root beer! Wide selection of hot dogs with other menu items as well. Inside is a bit small but grab something to go or grab a seat outside. Nothing better for a great lunch and yes - Chase was on the case!

This is our go to chili dog place! Feels like family when you walk in and hands down the best chili dogs in the greater grand rapids area! The half stan is a genius idea- you get a frosted mug rootbeer and once it's half way gone you bring it up for a scoop of vanilla ice creama and then you have a root beet float dessert!

I got the Colby plus & the karona dog. Overall the hotdogs were delicious, but one thing that personally I think is to toast the buns a little bit. That’s my opinion tho. Also would be nice to not share a tray.

We've been coming here for awhile now. We moved to Jenison but still make the drive! A hidden gem for sure.

The hot dogs here are delicious! I had the Karona Dog and the Kielbasa. Both were cooked to perfection. The toppings were piled on generously, and the flavors came together in perfect harmony. I finished the meal off with a chocolate malt. They know how to make them. It was sweet and creamy as you would hope. My wife had the olive dog and she had to go back and get another because of how good it was. She got the chili dog and she was not disappointed. My Aunt got the Chicago dog. She has been here before and that is her favorite. I sampled a root beer float too, and that was amazing. I don't know what type of root beer they use, but it is quality stuff. I'm bummed I only just discovered this place, but I am happy that I did.

Huge choice of how to serve a hot dog and the root beer was good

You want a low-frills, quick and dirty (in the best way possible) bite. These are hot dogs done right. Steamed Buns? Check. Mounds of toppings? Check. Ketchup? Yes, but that's a sin to put on your dog, so don't do it. Not too far off the beaten path, so if you're heading east toward Detroit, South towards K-zoo its great little pit stop. Don't overthink it and just enjoy the nostalgia.

2023_08_18 We had just left a tennis tournament at South Christian. I asked my son to look up hot dog places and he found Cooks Hot Dog Drive In. I've never been there but I'm happy we did! The food was quick and great along with the service. Fun place for a quick bite to eat!

My favorite place to get a nice root beer float after a rough day as a pick me up, The GR dog is easily my favorite out of all the hot dogs they offer. The staff are also super friendly if you can catch them during one of the slow times and have time for a chat they're wonderful people.

dang I love the food but recently cooks has become expensive. today I had two dogs and a shake for $19.40 - eeeek. Ill have to save my pennies and come back someday.

Really good casual hot dog stand. Food, service, and atmosphere are great. Prices have gotten unreasonable, though. Paid over $12 for two dogs and a root beer. Update: I suspect the owner will remove or amend his response, so I'm adding this update before he does. He completely ignored the fact that I praised his business, and instead, took issue with my comment that the prices were unreasonable. It doesn't matter how the prices compare to other places or what other customers say. That is irrelevant to my statement. It just means the other places have unreasonably high prices, too. He chose to respond with an attempt to cause others to question my credibility, instead of thanking me for calling his business "really good" and "great." For that, Cooks has lost my business permanently. I've been there several times, and each time had a good experience. But now, any future experience has been ruined. I cannot, in good conscience, patronize a business whose owner will attack the customers who complement it.

Absolutely fantastic! I've waited for 40 years to get back to My Favorite Chili Dog! And they were just as awesome as I remembered! The Cashier was Wonderful...friendly, helpful, kind, knowledgeable & obviously had been there for a very long time! She was so fun! The atmosphere was just so fun inside & out with a bit of history, memorabilia, & friendly, cozy, homey feeling!

I ordered 6 Chili dogs with onion and got very little chili with cheese.

Come here often when I’m in the area! Quick and tasty hot dogs of all kind. My favorite is the Chicago dog! Small shop, sit outside if you’d like, or has a few tables inside to eat quick.

Maybe the atmosphere makes everything taste better, and I'm ok with that. I had several different hotdogs (Chili, Company, and Kraut), and the frosted mug rootbeer float that everyone talked about. I enjoyed each item. There is plenty of outdoor seating, and limited inside seating. (About 12-14). They will definitely get my patronage again.

I’ve been Coming to cooks since the location on eastern and 44th street and the quality and service have been exponentially going down since the old man passed. The chili dogs which are alright never have enough chili. I’m asking for a chili dog not a “where’s the chili” chili dog. Have forgotten hot dogs quite often and it’s irritating to find out when u get home. On top of displaying your political support at a business. You’ve definitely lost my business 🤷‍♂️

Great staple to the neighborhood. Staff is always nice and warm. Food gets done very quickly and accurately as well. Perfect treat for my family when they are in the mood for hot dogs and ice cream.

They have absolutely the best hotdogs around with a giant variety as well as very reasonable prices. A lovely hidden away place to get lunch with excellent staff and friendly customers. Overall one of my favorite places to go eat.

Cooks is the ultimate in hotdogs and homemade root beer! They have so many kinds of hotdogs and also terrific soups, and ice cream. The atmosphere is so sweet and quaint. I highly recommend a trip to dutton to experience the ambiance!
