I would take recommendations from the waitress for what’s best on the menu. Would have liked more spice throughout the meal. Loved the cuteness of the restaurant. Service was good

Absolutely delicious. The vegetarian platter allowed me to explore all the options and I’ll be back again (especially for the beets).

I’ve been wanting to try Ethiopian food in the area for a while and this place did not disappoint. It’s definitely a more casual spot and they offer smoothies and coffee as well, including Ethiopian coffee! I ordered the Doro wat which was so filling and I had plenty to take home as well. Will definitely be coming back and bringing friends to try some Ethiopian food!

One of my favorites in the Rittenhouse area. The food is always on point - especially the kitfo and veg combo! Smoothies are great, too. Mango passion is my favorite. And the owners are the sweetest people you'll ever meet!

The person serving us (owner?) was extremely helpful when ordering. The food was delicious and the atmosphere is very enjoyable!

Been coming to Almaz for 12 years! Still the best Ethiopian food in the city and has become a comfort spot for me. The owner is also a very nice person, always hospitable.

This was my first time having Ethiopian food. I had their doro wot with an iced coffee, everything tasted amazing and portion size was plentiful. The lady that served me was very sweet and attentive. I'm not local to the city but when I am in the area again will definitely be back.

The food has no flavor. I would not even consider this food Ethiopian. It just looks like Ethiopian food but tastes like nothing. Except for the Yebege Tibs which didn’t even look or taste like Ethiopian food. The lamb looked like they had been steamed. If you want whitewashed bland food masquerading as Ethiopian cuisine then this is the place for you. Best Ethiopian Food Ive ever had. Im picky but you guys past the Authenticity test. You can even request the real Injera without gluten for a little fee. A 1 for sure!!!!

Imagine the injera soaking under your curries, making them fully absorb the curries flavours. All this while the injera turning a little sour with every bite from your meal. If you cant relate, you need to try the food from Almaz cafe.

I personally think this is the best flavored Ethiopian food in the city. I get the veggie platter and compared to other places, it’s the best in my opinion.

I only got carryout here but it was amazing! The service was also so friendly I hope to dine in some time to experience it . The food was great and I got plenty of it, a really good value

We live in NJ and love eating at Almaz Every time we go we tell them they need to open a restaurant in South Jersey!

5 star for the customer service. We went in a little after the kitchen closed for Dining in. The lady who was running the restaurant made sure we got our food as a ToGo and let us dine in with cutlery to help us out. Never seen any restaurants being so considerate and willing to go out of their way to make it a pleasant experience.

I went to this restaurant on a Saturday night without booking beforehand. It was quite crowded, but luckily, we found a table without having to wait. The service was excellent, and the lady serving us was very kind and paid attention to every little detail. Being in search of an authentic Ethiopian dining experience, we hit the jackpot with this place. We ordered the vegetarian combination with two meat dishes, and everything was incredibly tasty! The injera served here had a thicker texture, which we appreciated compared to other places we’ve tried. To our surprise, they also served ice cream, which was unexpectedly delicious! The prices were reasonable for the area, and I will definitely be returning to this restaurant in the future.

One of the better Ethiopian places in the city. They have a variety of options for meat and non-meat eaters. I’ve been able to go with friends of all dietary restrictions. I’m vegan and can eat many of the vegetable dishes. They also have some desserts and a really good mango juice

A really great experience. I had the veggie platter which was a perfect portion for dinner. The food was well prepared and flavorful. Also, I had a strawberry smoothie made with seltzer water. I’ve hadn’t heard of that before. The smoothie was really refreshing. I highly recommend trying Almaz Cafe. There are other options to choose from such as soups, sandwiches and breakfast items. Really charming cafe in a great location.

I haven't lived in Philadelphia for years, but I just remembered this amazing restaurant. I used to come every few weeks, and always had the most amazing food!! Perfectly spiced, delicious dishes and an absolutely stupendous chai boiled from fresh spices. I hope whoever reads this is inspired to go visit a place I hold a lot of nostalgic affection for

Food is not eatable the meat was not fresh and enjera was very heavy. The price doesnt worse for that food . Pleas improve . One more thing need to be clean . Bath room is upstairs but smell to down.👎

Celebrated by husband's Bday with friends there. We ordered doro wot (one of my favorites), lamb stew and vegetarian combo. Everything was delicious. Very flavorful, generous portion sizes. Our friends are vegetarian and they loved the variety of veg options as well. Very reasonably priced and nice atmosphere. Neat spot in the center city. We will be back!

My favorite restaurant in Philadelphia! Authentic Ethiopian food with incredible coffee, as well as smoothies. You can tell that they've been in business for more than 35 years for a reason!

First time trying Ethiopian food and it was delicious! The resturant is such a cute and dainty little place. Staff is wonderful. Got recommended the Zilzile Tibs and the vegetarian combo. They were both great. Loved the vegetarian combo as you get to try a bit of all the veggie dishes. Healthy and yummy.

Limited options, good service, VERY small restaurant. Not the best restaurant in town, worth trying at least once.

Th is a small cafe in center city Philadelphia. Loved the vegetarian (may be vegan) combination of all their vegetarian dishes including different lentils, peas, cabbage, potatoes, collard greens, beets, veggies, etc served with enjira bread. My husband had the beef stew and enjoyed the spices. Service was friendly and attentive. And it was at bargain prices. We had good coffee and espresso at end of meal. That day they had only two desserts available - chocolate cake which was good and ice cream which we did not have.

Wonderful spot. Small, intimate. Family owned, small crew. A very personal feel. I'd recommend the Tibbs or the platter. You won't regret it!

Great customer service! The man who served us (he might have been the owner) was very friendly and helpful. When he thought we were making a bad choice with our order he let us know and provided his recommendation which was very good. The food was great and a very good price for center city.

I had the cold brewed Ethiopian yergacheffe and zilzile tibs today for lunch (my 1st time to Almaz) and the food and drink were absolutely delicious. The service was also really great. This place is phenomenal.

Food is amazing. The woman who served us is an angel. As far as coffee, I was somewhat disappointed. The espresso's brew temperature was too high, and the beans were noticeably old. This was disappointing coming from an ethiopian cafe, but it was so nice otherwise and the food was so good that I am not too upset about it. :)

Delicious authentic Ethiopian food in the city. We have been visiting them since 2019 and they have really done a great job in maintaining their taste. We always order a combination of vegetarian dishes, Very nutritious, green lentils, yellow lentils, red lentils, green vegetables, beets, carrots and cabbage. Highly Recommend!

This place has the most delicious Ethiopian food. I’ve been coming here for years and it’s always consistent. I was just in Brooklyn and ate at one of the most highly reviewed Ethiopian restaurants and it didn’t hold a candle to Almaz. Love the owners too! My favs are the Tikil Gomen, Foule, and vegetarian combo platters.

This is an excellent restaurant. We went out for Ethiopian for the first time, and this was great experience. Everything we tried was wonderful. Even my son, who refuses to even try mac and cheese, ate everything. We will be back.

I can't believe I have never been to this place before. First and foremost, the owners are awesome and very warm and hospitable. The food also is very tasty with very generous portions. I look forward to returning again with family and more friends in the near future.

Friendly host, but not great food. The chicken stew I ordered was way overcooked and overpriced. $18 for a drum stick + thigh + boiled egg + side veggies and yogurt. Flavor was eh.

We had the vegetarian combo and a lamb entree. Well prepared and presented, delicious, portions quite sufficient. Finished off with Ethiopian coffee, which was exceptional. Place is tiny, squeaky clean. Holds up to any Ethiopian restaurant we've been to. Service is very attentive, family operation. Unique for Center City/Rittenhouse area. We've been returning, satisfied, for years.

absolutely brilliant Ethiopian food in a cozy, cute spot—not to mention their super refreshing & tasty smoothies are perfect for the summer. to top it all off, the folks who run it are so friendly and welcoming, and it really makes the amazing food that much better. it has quickly and quite literally become my favorite restaurant in rittenhouse square, a neighborhood that already has SO many good restaurants, but this place is such a hidden gem and it really is among some of the best food in the city.

They have Gluten Free injera now and it's amazing. I'm very sensitive to gluten cross contamination and I've eaten the Veggie Combo with GF injera 5 or 6 times now and have not had the slightest reaction. I don't have celiac but I am very sensitive to small amounts of gluten. Plus lovely owners! Yummmmmm.......

I got the vegetarian combo to go. It was a good solid meal (actually two meals because it's a fair amount of food). Most of what was included was tasty but I found it all a little bland. I like spicier food, but for most non-spicy folk it's probably 5 stars. Definitely worth trying and nice to patronize a small local business.

This is sort of a combination ethiopian coffeeshop/hole-in-the-wall restaurant. We thought we'd try it because it was convenient to where we were staying (whereas other places we love are further west and would have required a cab). The people who waited on us were lovely and sweet to our kids, so I feel a little bit bad not giving them a great review, but the food was a letdown. It looked beautiful when it came out, but the meat dishes just lacked something -- the beef and chicken seemed tired and didn't have the tenderness and flavorfulness I've enjoyed in other Ethiopian restaurants. Something was also just not quite right about the injerra -- even my kids noticed it -- not that it tasted bad, but it just wasn't as good as other injerra I've had. Vegetarian food was better and if I had to eat there again I'd just order the vegetarian dishes. Coffee also looked really good but I didn't get a chance to try it. If you want great Ethiopian food, Abyssinia in West Philly is hands down my favorite, and I've also had very good meals at Gojo and a couple of other places in that area. This is an ok spot to grab a bite or coffee if you're near Rittenhouse Square, but i wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again.

Took my friends here for dinner. Being Ethiopian, was very excited to share part of my culture with them. Place was beautiful and nostalgia hit right away with the decorations. The service was excellent. PROS The service was excellent! There was variety to the menus and it was definitely heat friendly. Some of the options were delicious and cooked to almost perfection. The food was priced reasonably and again there was a variety for me to choose from to introduce to my friends. CONS If you are an Ethiopian and attempt a dish that takes four hours to prepare, you better check all the boxes. I would not recommend the “DORO WOT” from this place as it is not fresh and a misrepresentation of the real dish. My order of this dish was clearly cooked days before and tasted old. DO NOT order the doro wot until they fix it. CONCLUSION This restaurant has done almost everything right. But some traditional dishes were just off the mark. However, other things on the menu were excellent. I’ll attend once more to check on the screwed dish and hopefully can update my review

We have had Ethiopian food in the past and the food here was superb. I had the chicken curry and my wife enjoyed the lamb. We had reservations but arrived early and were immediately seated. Stopped hy here to get my Ethiopian food fix and was satisfied. Although, I have tasted better, this place was good. Injera was generously provided but was not as soft or tasteful as I have had elsewhere. Ordered the zilzil tibs and vegetarian combo. Those items were delicious. Service was friendly. When you come across this restaurant, you may not realize it is Ethiopian food since it also serves smoothies, ice cream and coffee (a cafe). Nice ambience.
