I went here while visiting Philly and just having that need for injera (whenever I feel like I'm getting sick I want kitfo). The food here is of high quality. I've been to a lot of Ethiopian restaurants throughout the US and UK. Quality of this food is up there with the best.

Although I’m not Habesha, I loved all over the country for about 4 years. I really liked the quality of food at Kaffa, especially in terms of authenticity. The kitfo and ful were really amazing. Staff are attentive and very sweet. Don’t forget to check out the spices, coffee, traditional dishes, etc in the back available for purchase. Highly recommend!!

We came for lunch and there was no line or wait when we arrived. We ordered the Yebeg Tibs, spicy regular Tibs, and Shiro Wot. It came on a bed of injera (Ethiopian flatbread) with extra on the side. It also came with yellow split peas, spiced split lentils, collard greens, and carrot with salad. Everything was delicious but I especially liked both of the Tibs as well as the Shiro Wot. It wasn't very busy and the staff checked in often enough.

I ordered online for pickup and got what is just called “Tibs” on the menu (not any of the special ones with another descriptor; note it is beef). I went with the spicy version and it was INCREDIBLE. It was spicy but not overly spicy, very juicy, and everything had so much flavor! It came with cabbage and lentils. The meat was amazing, but the lentils might be my favorite part. Everything came wrapped in injera and with extra on top in the container. The woman at the counter was very nice when I went to pick it up. I will definitely be ordering from here again Some useful notes: The food is delicious. Reasonably priced. There is a small service fee ($1) when ordering online. If paying by card instead of cash, they only take Visa or Mastercard, so plan accordingly.

Ok so it's been 40+ years since I've had doro wot, a delicious spicy tomato mixture with chicken and hard boiled egg. The memories came a flooding....HOWEVER, when your server does not speak or understand fluent English well, make sure YOU understand what they understand. I ordered doro wot and my husband kaffa tibs. They asked if we wanted a combination plate and we end up with two orders of tibs. The kaffa tibs were not tender as the menu suggests but rather tough and chewy. I would NOT recommend this place.

This is a cozy little restaurant on Chestnut Street in University City. The hostess was exceptionally kind and accommodating to us. The food deserves 4.5 stars. The atmosphere and service gets 5 stars from me. We had Doro Wot, Veggie Combo for entrees. We also got a small smoothie and an Ethiopian beer for drinks. First off, the drinks were great. I highly recommend the Ethiopian beer (It’s named ‘Habesha’). It’s not too overpowering, has a pleasant taste and goes exceptionally well with the food. The food itself was great. Both dishes came with ample helpings of injerra (Ethiopian bread). I found some pieces of chicken in the Doro Wot to be a little hard to bite, but it was fine. The other servings of vegetables on the platter went great with the Doro Wot.

First time tried Ethiopian food for our six month anniversary. It was pretty good and kinda close to Indian food but less spicy. We ordered three meat options: Doro wot, Kaffa Tibs, Yebeg Tibs. It's perfect amount for three people. My fav was Kaffa and second fav being Yebeg. Doro wot was alright. The vegetables and lentils that came with it didn't seem to have enough salt. But other than that they were good. Will be trying their vegetarian options the next time we come.

This was DISGUSTING. I have a history of going to various Ethiopian restaurants and tried many Ethiopian dishes and this is NOT it! I got the vegetarian combo w/ a side of shiro last night and the food had NO FLAVOR! The shiro tasted bland, collard greens tasted bland, the cabbage and potatoes tasted bland, the lentil stew tasted bland, and the corn tasted bland! The salad was ok but majority of the plate was BLAND! No flavor!!!! Where is the seasoning??? This is absolutely the worst Ethiopian restaurant i ever been to. If you can’t flavor something as simple as a vegetarian combo, which is a KNOWN Ethiopian traditional meal, then the meat dishes will most likely lack flavor as well. I would rather go to Abyssinia — their food had flavor. It is BEYOND me why this place has a 4.5 star rating and the food is known to be “authentic”… disgusting!

I have never eaten Ethiopian food and was brought here by a friend. What a fantastic experience! The quality of the food was outstanding and the experience was even better. All the food was served on a single round platter on what appeared to an American to be similar to a pancake - injera. The food, a variety of lentils, veggies, and meats were placed on top of the injera and we were given additional injera to eat the various dishes. I’ve never eaten without utensils or shared a giant plate with friends, so it was a great experience. The meats (we got chicken and beef tibs) were spicy and good. The veggies were tasty also. The food is clearly cooked to order - don’t expect this to be fast food, it is an opportunity to sit with friends and have a long meal together. I highly recommend going if you haven’t had Ethiopian food before. My friends, who have, said this was authentic and very good.

Excellent meal, highly recommend it if you like African or are curious about giving it a try. The Kitfo (minced beef with some heat, ordered rare), Doro Wat (chicken in a thick, heavily spiced, curry-ish sauce), and vegetarian sampler were more than enough to pleasantly fill up a party of three with leftovers. The sampler alone or together with one meat dish would be fine for a couple with moderate appetites. Great taste and texture to the injera bread. All of the dishes had unique flavor profiles, but the vegetables seemed to be the real crowd-pleasers and the size of the sampler was an excellent value. Small criticism — the service was friendly, but not exactly speedy or attentive. Not a big deal when the food is this good, but it would be great if the server(s) left a pitcher of water on the table.

One of the best Ethiopian restaurants in Philadelphia. I’ve been eating at several of the Ethiopian restaurants in W Philly for over 20 years and hadn’t realized until recently that Kaffa Crossing had become a full service restaurant. Unlike some places that I’ve loved over the years whose prices have gotten higher and portions smaller, their $12 vegetarian combo was more than enough for two and very good. The place is clean and the staff is very friendly. If you haven’t tried it, I’d strongly encourage you to have a meal there.

This is our favorite Ethiopian restaurant and we love every chance we can come here. We take our friends when we can ☺️ Get the veggie platter with spicy yebeg tibs and spicy kaffa tibs. The lamb and beef are sooooo flavorful and our friends who don't eat spicy foods all the time described both as being spiced/flavorful rather than hot/spicy. Veggie platter comes with a bunch of great sides. The salad and stewed cabbage/potatoes/carrots are my faves. My partner loves the split peas and collard greens. It can get busy, but customer service is fantastic and attentive! They always notice when we are running out of injera and bring out more for us 😋🤤

The food looks good. The wrap I got was great and the sambusa. But the Doro tibs (chicken) was nasty. I asked for mild instead of spicy and I got no seasoning. When I say none I mean NONE. It's boiled chicken. Mild does not mean zero seasoning. Really disappointed because Ethiopian food always has amazing flavors. Guess I will make sure to get spicy next time although I'm not the biggest fan of hot food.
