Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Authentic German establishment. Hospitable, friendly servers; reasonable prices; quaint decor. Not the best for a couple of the dishes but all in all a good establishment. We had the pretzel with horseradish and shredded carrots cream cheese plus mustard; potato pancakes with sour cream and applesauce; Weiner schnitzel with a side of brown gravy, spaetzle, and red cabbage; potato soup; and their special bacon blue cheese soup. The pretzel appetizer was good and filling for only $6 (on August 1, 2024). It came with mustard and either horseradish cream cheese or spicy cream cheese. The potato pancakes were about 4 inches across and deep fried brown with a dense chives mixture inside. I found the Weiner schnitzel a bit gamey but of excellent texture. The brown gravy was good, homemade, with caraway flavor I thought. Spaetzle was pan fried and a mite tough in the browned parts. The red cabbage hit us in the throat with cloves, sugar and vinegar. “Wow!” we both exclaimed after the first bite. I couldn’t tell the difference between the potato soup and the bacon blue cheese soup except mine came in a fancier bowl. They were both good soups but both tasted like bacon, cream, smooth potato purée and cheese. Maybe the blue cheese in my soup was tasted at first but after that I couldn’t detect it or see it. Maybe ask for and pay for extra blue cheese on the side.

We arrived right around 5 pm on a Thursday. We were seated at a private table in the back that was so cozy & private. It was bliss until a table seated nearby began playing videos on their phones with the speaker on. Relaxing dinner was ruined. Despite asking one of the waitresses to ask them to turn the volume down, it continued until we left. Salads & mixed sausage platter appetizer were phenomenal, but the Jaeger Schnitzel was tough & cooked with way too much bacon - overpowered the dish in a bad way. The German Chocolate cake was dry & tasted stale. The coconut topping was thick & dry as well. For a $135 dinner + tip (2 people), we left feeling very disappointed. Additionally, it's crazy they charge for soda refills ($3 each) when you're spending that much with them. All that said, their pretzels are fabulous! Doubt we'll go back, but will definitely pick up some pretzels from time to time.

WOW! We have lived in Fort Lauderdale our whole lives and are so sad that we are just now discovering thjs hidden gem!!! We felt like we stepped into a German restaurant the moment we opened the doors. The place is so cozy and authentic. The service was incredible, service you can’t get unless it’s a family run business. The menu offered a large variety of German cuisine, and we were so impressed with how great everything tasted! What an incredible place- we will be back and will be recommending to all of our friends and family.

Special thanks to Amy & Lizzy for being so kind and patient with all in attendance. Food was good but not necessarily authentic. As native German, who grew up in Germany, I can say that Wiener Schnitzel or all other dishes on the menu would not be served with these weird jelly cranberries....they weren't bad but just isn't a German thing...And Apfelpuffer (potato crisps/ pancakes) aren't an appetizer...more like a Dessert.... Overall, this restaurant isn't exactly what I would recommend as an authentic German spot, it was totally empty and dark tiny separate rooms, not very inviting. Don't think I'll go back there. Prices are hefty. Service flat out sux.

This was such an amazing experience. Holly was incredible for our first time visiting, We learned this place was her grandparents original place after migrating from Germany many many years ago and her father is the chef. The atmosphere is so unique with hundreds of German accents and pieces. I felt like we were visiting an authentic German home from long ago , so comforting . The food was amazing, we got the special which was stuffed veal with pork and beef and veggies in a delicious sauce and the three soup appetizer with French bread along with the most authentic speatzel with Swiss cheese and fried onions. We will definitely be going back and I’m so happy to a resident here so I don’t have wait for vacation to enjoy this delightful restaurant.

Very disappointing experience. I dined with friends at Ambry on two occasions; both EB. The food was just ok. Onion soup starter was peppery and the cheese burned on top. No mashed potatoes with liver. Any decent desert was extra. They only offered carrot cake with the EB. We did have the chocolate mouse cake and strudel. I accidentally spilled my cocktail and was charged for a second drink. After complaining the charge was deleted from the cheque. On the second occasion the onion soup again was as previously mentioned. Two of us in our party ordered the Weiner Shnitzel. Supposed to be veal. One look when cut into and a wee bit tough I noticed it was chicken. Very politely I asked one of our servers why they don't use veal and arrogantly was told "we only use veal" ..."unless someone requests a chicken cutlet schnitzel!" I took home part of my dinner and took a photo of was definitely chicken!!! Yes, to say the least I don't like to be lied to.

Not sure if the regular cook was on vacation or on sickleave. Unaware of the restaurant's history and its former famous owner, we chose this place based on the overall very good evaluations. Although the service team was very friendly and helpful, we left the restaurant severely disappointed. The food was way below what you would expect as canteen chow while pricing was in the range of a top notch place. The Schnitzel (probably one of German cuisine's most simple dishes) did not have any flavor nor seasoning. The meat was described on the menú as veal - but was way too thick and hard like old leather. The Bratkartoffeln were probably precooked a couple of days before. We just want to forget about this place and will definitely never return.

I saw this place offered several steak options, but I wasn’t sure about getting a steak dinner at a German restaurant. The reviews seemed pretty good, so we decided to try it. My wife and I went for the early bird specials. There were several options, but we were focused on beef. I couldn’t find the hours for the early bird dining, but when we arrived, I noticed a sign that stated it was from 5:00-6:00, which was the first hour they were open. The meal came with soup or salad, a main entree, a side of potatoes (4-5 options), tea (iced or hot), and dessert. The menu doesn’t state what dessert there is, so if you’re curious, you might want to call ahead. I had the French onion soup, which is probably my favorite soup overall. The other soup was listed as the soup of the day, but I didn’t even ask about it. My wife had the German house salad, which was like most salads, but had a side of beets. We both enjoyed our selections. For the main entree, I picked the prime rib with a side of spaetzle, which is basically noodles. My wife had the filet mignon and home fries. Both steaks were perfect. My prime rib was flavorful, while the filet was extremely tender. My wife didn’t care for the seasoning on the home fries (fennel maybe?), and I thought the spaetzle didn’t have much flavor, so I simply added some salt. For drinks, we had ordered 2 Cokes, but no one came to refill them. When I asked, we were told there were no free refills. If prices were on the menu, I missed them, but considering most places offer free refills, it would have been nice to have that clarified. And by the way, those drinks were $3.00 each for a glass of soda filled with lots of ice, plus the soda was a bit flat. But that’s really my only complaint about the meal. Since we didn’t get free refills, I switched to iced tea, and my wife had coffee, which she thought was quite good. For dessert, they offered coconut cake, and if that wasn’t to your liking, you could have vanilla pudding. Just don’t look at the main menu and think you can order any dessert you’d like. I like coconut, so this dessert sounded great to me. It came out chilled, and while it’s not something I would order by itself, I did enjoy it. We liked the atmosphere of the place, kind of rustic. The outside looks a bit like a castle, but the interior felt warm and inviting. There aren’t any windows, but I thought the interior lighting worked well. It wasn’t overly dim, so I didn’t have any problems reading the menu. One other note about the parking. The spaces on the same side of the lot as the buildings have meters on them. While it didn’t look like adding coins to them would work, you can download an app to pay online. Payment is required until 7:00 pm. However, if you find a space facing the main road where there are no meters, parking is free. For the price of a steak dinner, I’d definitely go back, especially for the early bird meal.

The entrees were good. We were not offered bread, which we would have liked, but then we noticed another table did receive: so I guess you have to ask. The potato pancakes were not to our liking: had a weird after taste and completely over fried to the point of toughness. Note that there are meters in front of the restaurant but there is free parking ten feet North facing the street.

Ich liebe Ambry! Ausgezeitnet! I love everything about this place from the authentic Ratskeller layout and decor, the steins and even a Cuckoo clock. The bar is straight out of Bavaria. The entire vibe and service is super friendly, and the kind that’s difficult to manufacture but what happens when you find yourself in a cozy room with just a few other tables. The German food is as fine as I have ever had and I am a true Deutchefile. They don’t just do schnitzel, they have varieties I’ve never heard of and will gladly do it gluten free if you prefer. You can only do that when everything is made from scratch. Their gulasch is so good we bought a jar of it to go. Their red cabbage is the best I’ve ever had. Hands down. The couple near us had the NY strip with Swiss and said it was amazing. Step in here and step into Germany.

For a long time I had an interest in trying the long-standing Ambry Restaurant on East Commercial just East of Bayview. Inside the restaurant has a number of separate dining rooms and a very active bar at the front on the right as you enter. The decor is befitting the German theme. The service staff is very good and attentive. The menu has a good variety and there are many schnitzel offerings but not chicken. Generally, the difference between the various schnitzels is the topping. One surprise is how salad dressings and mustard for the pretzel are served in single serving plastic takeout containers. We started with appetizers of a pretzel, potato pancakes, and the special onion rings. The potato pancakes were definitely not my mother's or even my own but at least they were served with applesauce. The special onion rings were not very special and reminiscent of a frozen bag brand. The pretzel is very big and a nice soft bread. Of the four of us at dinner there were three different schnitzel dishes and a grouper. The breaded schnitzel was a good size serving and overall was good. The grouper was reported as poor. We had two desserts that were both fine. The best thing about the Ambry is that the menu item prices are reasonable for what you get. Entrées are served with a choice of a cup of soup or the house German salad.

Great place, has been around forever. When you park note that the spaces right in front are metered but the ones 10 steps away along the street are free. The Ambry is charming with a set up with totally separate rooms holding about 4 tables. The only reason I did not give five stars is because we were seldom visited by a server and would’ve had to get up and go looking for them to submit our request. When we asked for white bread it came out less than completely fresh. Otherwise though the food was absolutely excellent. I had the combination plate with pork and sausages and my wife had I think it was veal with Alfredo sauce and Spaetzle. By the way they no longer have a salad bar but they have added a couple of large picnic tables. Charming atmosphere and tons of beer mugs and antiques. If you’ve never had wheat beer try the Tucher. I’m not a beer drinker but I always enjoy this when eating German food.

Me & 20 other family members went to The Ambry German restaurant on Saturday nite. I felt like I was back in Munich at the Hofbrauhaus only the food was much better and the German beer was colder!! I recommend the fresh hot pretzels, Bratwurst, Beef Rouladen & Schweinebraten!! 😋 We had a great time celebrating my recent BD in part cause the food & service was so good (thank you Holly) and we had our own room so our noisy family didn’t disturb any other patrons! Prost!! 🍻

Great menu...I had Prime Rib & it was tender, delicious and a perfect medium rare as requested...I was there before 6PM and got the early bird special that includes soup or salad, 1 side and a complimentary dessert...all for $21.95...I'll definitely be a repeat customer...a bottle of French Pinot Noir was a reasonable $34...

It has been a while that I had visited this German restaurant originally owned by Gerd Mueller a famous German Soccer player. The food was great: Sauerbraten mir Rotkohl!

Had a very delayed flight and wanted to get to the beach for the day. I found Riva on maps not realizing it was located in a hotel. We had breakfast - the best omelette I have EVER had (smoked salmon)
