Update: Went there again last night with my girlfriends. Everything was delish. Beautiful atmosphere (lighting, greenery, open- air dining area. Highly recommend! What a fantastic and romantic meal! I took my husband there for his birthday and the service & food was fabulous and on point (rockfish, squash samosas, palak paneer, bengan khan, stuffed goat cheese naan). We greatly enjoyed the beautiful garden area and later had an amazing fig & rye cocktail in the bar area. The mixologist rocks! Perfect! This fab meal was a perfect start to a weekend of birthday celebrations for my honey. We ordered Carryout during Covid- yet going in person again made us remember why Ananda remains one of our fav restaurants. Also- they offer plenty of yummy vegetarian options. My husband often travels to India on business and enjoys Indian Cuisine greatly. When hosting business meetings locally - he often takes his clients there. Try Ananda for a wonderful dining experience.

I love this place. The issue is that because it is open to the elements at certain times of the year they have an issue with insects inside, but at the right time when it is managed, and they’re on their game things align and stuff tastes good. I love the farm to table concept.

First time here and thought it was a good experience. I've driven past this place tons of times and didn't know it was a restaurant. It's gorgeous on the inside. We made a reservation and were given the choice for indoor or outdoor seating. The cocktails we got were nicely done. The appetizers, roasted broccoli and tuna tartare were delicious. So was the goat cheese naan. I got the chicken tikka masala and it was very dry and lacked flavor, which took away from my dinner unfortunately. My partner got the Lamb vindaloo and his was cooked well. We spent over $200 for the two of us. I will return and might just get a few appetizers and drinks next time.

1900, 24MAY2024: Worst Service Period. Let's clear the air, we are a diverse group, so was this prejudice or bias? You decide. Have ate at Ananda a dozen times, always spending $200-400 on carry out or dine-in, always tip 25-30%. Was a long-time Royal Taj patron, but switched to Ananda, which proved to be a horrible mistake. Walk in before a group of five. We are a group of four. Get seated first. Group of five gets drinks, gets orders taken, and gets appetizers before we get our drinks. Drinks run out, must flag down Manager for re-fills. Group who sat down after us has dinner before we order dinner. Must flag down to get order in. Must flag down manager for appetizer plates to be cleared. Food comes, naans missing. Have to flag down server to re-order naans, which in itself takes 10mins. Nanns arrive after meal. Server stops by, for the first time of the evening, after three of the four members are done eating to ask how the food is. Did not check once throughout the night. Hours before, server read back order and naan was listed on server's scratch pad. Talk to Manager, he claims an accident forced all patrons to arrive at once and we ordered naan after food came. Not sure how this translates to groups arriving after us and having plates cleared, drinks re-filled, and food delivered while we sat with no interaction without physically flagging someone down? Manager agrees to make bill right: manager removes the one naan and gives two glasses of champagne on the house. I did not want to tip, service/prejudice deserved zero tip. Our party tipped far too much. This was a celebration evening and the service/prejudice made the evening horrendous. I once had a ‘bad night’ at the Prime Rib in Baltimore City and without me saying anything, Manager comped the entire check ($750). The comp here was a joke/non existent for the horrendous experience and obvious prejudice we endured. Will not return, will no longer recommend. Back to Royal Taj, which adds 10mins each way, but service is always top notch and I never-once had to have a teachable moment with the Manager, ever. Pretty tired of prejudicial people, so tah-tah, Ananda. You were fun while you lasted, but imitation upscale Indian just does not last.

This is hands down my favorite restaurant in the area. The food is incredible! Their are dishes not super traditional, but the food they have is prepared perfectly and tastes incredible. Our favorites include the Himalayan duck, lamb chops, chicken tikka, chicken burra, meat samosa, and cardamom ice cream. I recently took my grandparents from India here and they were so impressed! Mind you, they are very judgmental of Indian restaurants. My grandma gave our waitress a hug before we left, she was so impressed! The service is always impeccable. You will see the owner talking to customers, serving at tables, and ensuring you are enjoying your meal. The ambiance is unmatched. We love sitting in the left room especially during warmer weather when the windows are open. This place is always busy, I suggest making reservations. Enjoy!

I had heard so many good things about Ananda that me and a friend decided to deviate from our regular "go-to" Indian restaurant in Columbia and give this establishment a try for dinner one Sunday evening. We were greeted warmly, but were then seated in a large room full of other diners. It was extremely loud and noisy, to the point where it was difficult to carry on a simple conversation at our table. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala at their regular spice level, some naan and a White Russian. When the meal arrived, my plate contained a surprisingly small portion of chicken, some basmati rice and some strange side that looked like re-fried beans. Perhaps it was Dal Makhani? I have no idea, but it did not taste that good, nor did it pair well with the meal. The chicken was not very tender and could not be cut with a fork. It also was rather bland in taste. We both passed on dessert and the bill still came out to $60 for each of us. That is way too pricey for what we received (even including my exorbitant $15 White Russian). In the future, we will definitely be sticking with the much-superior Indian restaurant off Rt. 108.

I came here to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The service and ambiance were great. The food was quite delicious and this place offered decent portions. My friends and I ordered the Roasted Cauliflower, Corn & Crab Soup and Avocado & Roasted Corn Salad to start. Both were good but I would definitely return for the soup. We also ordered Lamb Chops, Halibut and Beef Short Rib; all were delicious. We also got a naan and garlic naan, which were both great but I wish we had larger portions. We got a slice of chocolate cake for desert, as part of the birthday treat from the restaurant. The drinks were great, and the bartender makes really good cocktails. They have a nice, small bar area where you can sit in and enjoy drinks before or after dinner. They also have an extensive wine selection. All in all, between the three of us we spent ~$275 on dinner, including my friend and I getting two drinks each. It’s a little on the higher end and I didn’t like the automatic 20% gratuity but the food was great. I would definitely return. My visit on Super Bowl Sunday for takeout ended in great disappointment, which is notable given my fondness for Indian cuisine. While I have my favorite go-to places for Indian food, I was keen on trying somewhere new. Unfortunately, the dishes I ordered were so excessively oily that the leftovers were practically glued to the container by the following day. Reflecting on the health advice I often give my patients, I decided to discard the leftovers. Furthermore, describing the lachha paratha and roti is challenging—they were tasteless, tough, and oily, a stark contrast to how they should taste. My husband, of Indian descent, was equally unimpressed with his meal. I would have liked to rate the food alone at least 3 stars, but doing so would not be truthful. I'm hopeful that my experience was the result of an off night or a substitute chef, rather than the norm.

I was planning to cook something - and wasn’t really feeling happy about that process. My neighbor called and said she was going for Indian food, and would I like to join her - YES! So I was introduced to Ananda and it was wonderful. Walking in, the hospitality was lovely. We sat on a covered patio surrounded by thousands of little lights and the hum of happy voices of other guests. The smells of delicious curry dishes wafted through the room and I was so excited to try a new place. I went with a simple meal of naan and butter chicken and it was perfectly made. I appreciate that they ask about spiciness, and since I’m a spicy wimp, that is always a great thing! I love flavors and a little heat, but I like to taste my food. My neighbor got a lamb dish and her roommate got a samosa and a different lamb dish. They went spicy! Both said they had excellent meals and the next time I will try the samosa too! Butter chicken arrives and I was in heaven. Perfectly cooked chicken in a delicious sauce. I had so much to eat that I took home a substantial “lunch” for the next day. I’m a fan!

This is a true 'Hidden Gem',from where it's located to the food, service, and look of the establishment. The food is authentic, according to the dining party, and spiced to your choice (mild, medium, or spicy). The medium spicy was a well balanced choice with flavor and not just a "hot" dish. There are meat, seafood, and an extensive vegetarian set of selections. The service is quick, attentive, and they can answer any question about a dish. Additionally, service is equal for any number of guests - 2 or 12 or more, they know how to adjust so the experience is equal. The atmosphere is upscale - the seating areas are well spaced, the decor provides a sense that this isn't your typical franchise (it is not a franchise) type look. The owner was on site and greeting/meeting diners and asking about their meals and experience. If you're looking for a unique dining experience - this would be an excellent choice.

It didn't start well. My friend and I arrived without reservations on Saturday night. We waited in the crowded bar area. A couple in front of us got up so we took their seats. They had left a mess so we leaned away from the bar and chatted. After a while, my friend asked the bartender if she could wipe the counter when she had a minute. The girl snapped, "well you sat down the minute they got up! That's what happens when I don't get a chance to clean it!" Huh? My friend and I looked at each other bewildered. I was ready to leave but my friend insisted that the food was worth the wait. Bartender then demanded, "what are you having?" I said I didn't know yet.. as I was thinking I didn't want anything she prepared. Fortunately, our table was ready so we were rescued. The food did not disappoint. We shared everything: a special appetizer, forgot the name, but pictured here, organic greens - sounds basic, but tasted anything but; crab khumbi, butternut crab soup - I smiled with each spoonful; rosemary and sea salt Naan - seriously, why are we adding salt to everything? still tasty; goa fish - deliciousness; and molten lava cake, which I have no idea how I had room to eat. Everything was delicious. The staff so friendly and polite, I wonder where they found the bartender.

Our waiter Said takes great care of us and the owner comes and speaks with us at the table every time we visit. We are treated like family at Ananda and cannot recommend this place enough. Our favorite dishes are the Crab Malabar and Lamb Chops.

NOT AUTHENTIC! This restaurant is for people who either don't know what Indian food should taste like or grew up eating the American version of Indian food. Any person who is actually from India will not like this place.

Excellent food, especially the meat samosa and the creme brulee. Fantastic service as well. Sayyid (spelling?) was our server, and he was extremely personable. Even showed us around the restaurant after our meal.

First time visiting and I loved my experience. I can’t remember the last time I experienced such a high level of excellent service. Every single member of the staff, including the bar tender, were such gracious hosts. I ordered food to go, and had some appetizers there while catching up with a friend. Not only was the food absolutely delicious, they made it seamless and easy, having my food ready as soon my friend and I finished up. I can’t say enough wonderful things about this restaurant. Oh and the patio terrace is absolutely stunning - I loved sitting outside in the serene and tranquil space.

Wish I could give this place 0 stars. I am shocked by any positive reviews of this restaurant. We went for a very early dinner so it was not busy. Everything we ordered was unfortunately terrible. It lacked adequate seasoning despite being classified as "medium" spicy. The chicken in the chicken tikka masala was very dry. The $6 naan was partly raw and it was obvious that they re-heated it and served it to us. Everything at this place is overpriced. Given their exorbitant pricing the food should be outstanding. If you like traditional Indian food you will not like this place. I definitely do NOT recommend this restaurant.

If you enjoy over paying for sub par food this is your spot. Strictly a place to eat if you only care about vibes and simultaneously despise your taste buds.

Wonderfully inventive blending of Indian spices and flavors. Many fireplaces, cozy, intimate dining inside, patio can be loud if doors are closed, romantic, fireplace bar for happy hour, try the Berkshire Pork appetizer, soups are to die for, everything is good, and of course finish with the cardamon ice cream. Plenty of gluten free choices!!!

Phenomenal service, beautiful environment in the midst of manicured gardens. This is one of the best meals I had on the planet I had a fish curry and a really lovely blended soup. Everything was spaced perfectly, aromatic, cooked to perfection. The service was extremely attentive. However, there was something warm and welcoming about the service. The team there is extremely knowledgeable about every dish and makes great individualized suggestions. I can’t believe I just became aware that this place exist. I look forward to returning with loved ones and Intown guests to share this experience. Enjoy, I cannot imagine how this experience could not exceed your expectations.

The food was delicious, from the Corn, Cauliflower & Crab Soup to the Dharamshala Duck. Our server, Said, was charismatic, attentive, and a joy to share the dining experience with. I highly recommend this eating here.

The best higher end dining option in the county without having to drive all the way to DC. Elevated dining but still reasonable prices.

One of the most overrated restaurants I've been to because of the atmosphere. The food at best is still mediocre. It isn't truly Indian and like others mentioned is more fusion. We waited 45 minutes between the salad and the main dish and was told that this is the norm so be ready to wait if you go. Overrated, overpriced and over waited.

Ambience seems great. Drinks variety seems wonderful. Hostess was good and seemed kind. But sadly one dish - which we requested chicken tikka. We specially shared we have come just to pick up after day long travel - chicken curry for kids - was really badly done. The chicken was not well done- uncooked as kids shared. One adult who tried confirmed it. Very high price - 35$ including tips for badly cooked chicken. Wished had gone to some local alternative for naan and curry.

Met family travelling through here for dinner. We had reservations for 1730 and were seated immediately. Love the atmosphere here, it is elegant and understated, and it is nice to have the breeze blowing through from the veranda. The service was forced and uncomfortable. Obsessive about refilling water (just try to empty your glass, you won't be able too!). They really discourage ordering in courses and want to take your complete order al at once. I'd rather be in control of my own meal. The food was somewhat bland given the cuisine; I'm not talking about spiciness in terms of heat here, but rather in terms of flavor. It was served at a warm temperature but not hot. One wonders if the dishes weren't cold when loaded. Portions were reasonably sized. No lamb saag on the menu, a personal disappointment. Price-wise, pretty expensive for what you get, in terms of food more so than in terms of experience. Not sure I'd come here again. value just ins't there.

Ananda is a beautiful place to dine in warm weather when the restaurant opens its walls to lush greenery and pleasant air. The wait staff is experienced and deferential to patrons. The Indian food is delicious. In this particular evening the food was long in coming and my entrée was only warm. A wonderful and quiet place to dine.

Ananda is an upscale Indian restaurant located in a leafy suburb of Baltimore. It’s an aristocratic style place adorned with a beautiful bar and an expansive list of wines to choose from. The decor and atmosphere is pleasant. Plenty of outdoor seating with a beautiful touch of romantic lights is a plus. Food is amazingly delicious but somehow totally Americanized to satisfy their clientele taste buds. Overall staff is courteous but the receptionist was kind of cold and acknowledged us after several minutes. A good place to entertain your guest and indulge in delicate food and a pleasant atmosphere.

My husband and I had the most amazing experience at Ananda celebrating our anniversary. The ambiance is intimate and the service is impeccable. The samosas were the best we’ve ever had. The spicy mango cocktail was so delicious and the perfect way to start the meal. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable while offering excellent suggestions from the menu. We felt welcomed and valued from the time we walked in to when we walk out. Portion sizes were perfect. The food was delicious. Don’t pass on the bread pudding with cardamom ice cream for dessert with the expresso martini. The night ended with a surprise blessing-thank you Dave 😉. We had the best experience we have ever had at a restaurant and we will definitely be back. 👏👏

NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY. They have no high chairs or booster seats. I have never been to a restaurant that doesn’t have the basic high chair for kids. I had reservations to have a special night for my birthday but we had to leave because there was no way my 1 year old could sit in my lap the entire dinner. Such a shame. The hostess and manager were super rude and disrespectful.

This place was Epic from the time we came until the time we left we were treated like family. The food was excellent over the top...this was actually the first time myself, son and my one cousin had Indian food and it was an awesome experience...We met other family members there who were A-list patrons they dine there frequently and they absolutely love it as well. For a first time visit for Indian cuisine this should your first stop.
