There are times when we experience things that make it clear that the human being is more than the material. There is a depth to an experience that shows that we are not just here existing, but purposefully and knowingly reaching for a meaning more profound than the mundane world. Eating at the Bistro is one of those experiences. When eating here you cannot help but feel that when humans first put flame to food we were instinctively on a path to create more than simple sustenance. We were engaged it the evolution of an ideal. The elevation of a simple necessity to an art form that would fill more than our bellies but feed our souls as well. To be human is to be awed and dwell on mystery. The Bistro will provide that experience. Lafayette is lucky to be home to bistro.

Mary suggested an appetizer that heirloom tomatoes with mozzarella and pesto. We added grilled shrimp and what a fabulous dinner and not heavy on calories

B&G and Ham Benedict were fantastic!

Was very clean, smelled amazing, and server was really nice and knowledgeable!!! Only thing which isn't bad is that the appetizers weren't what we are used to. But what we chose the peach pizza was new to us and it was great!!!

Unbeatable food, service, and atmosphere! Bistro 501 has the best Sunday brunch in town, and my family appreciates the extra care they take to accommodate dietary restrictions, allergies, and preferences. On this particular day, we had a reservation for a large party, and Mary + team did an incredible job, exceeding our expectations (as always) ♥️ Highly recommend as your next dining destination!

Prices are very, very reasonable for the exceptional quality and flavorful food and drink. Seasonal menu allows for fresh, delicious ingredients. Everything I've had here has been amazing, truly. The creme brulee has real vanilla and is phenomenal. Staff is friendly, attentive, and gives great service. Features local art for sale, helping to support the community.

This place is so well put together. The customer service with the waitress was on point. All of the food was extremely flavorful, well presented, and portioned generously. Not to mention, the prices could easily be doubled, and I would happily pay it. You have to stop by and give this place a shot. We sat outside and enjoyed the great weather with the excellent food. 2nd visit update, They did it again. Amazing flavors and unique dishes. Bistro 501 has made it into my top 50 favorite restaurants list. If you follow me, you know that is not easy to accomplish. The lamb dish was awesome.

What a jewel of a restaurant! The food tickles my tastebuds every time!! The atmosphere is warm and inviting - a place where you want to gather with friends or loved ones to make memories over an amazing meal to remember. Oh, the desserts, OMG!!!! Oh, seafood is delivered fresh daily!!! Fresh baked bread, YUM. Cesar salad…added salmon…cheesy crisp something with capers and homemade dressing. Guests driving Indy tonight. I’m not surprised. Excellent experience. Dined at Bistro 501 with colleagues from Purdue University. The restaurant was very busy but the atmosphere was still friendly and welcoming. We had excellent service and all were happy with their food. I would highly recommend.

We are visiting Lafayette for graduation from Florida. I researched the best place to dine as a congratulatory dinner. Our dinner started off well. The bread and butter with honey was fantastic. However, the evening took a turn when my husband didn’t care for his meal. We notified the server. He took it away. While our family was sitting there visiting with one another, I can only presume the owner?, approached our table and started speaking to us abrasively asking why he didn’t like the meal. Not once was a replacement meal offered and she seemed more concerned if the chef did something wrong and less concerned about the customer. She offered us a complimentary dessert. However, we still had to pay for the meal that wasn’t eaten other than the first bite. We will never come back to this restaurant next time we’re in Lafayette.

We go here about four times a year for brunch when visiting our son at Purdue - it's one of the only local restaurants open on Sundays for brunch. The specials always seem the most creative - the empanadas were really good - and we are lucky they still have some by the time we arrive around 12:30 or 1pm. Service is generally good. I would love to see the interior updated, though - seems like it may have been remodeled in the late '90's? And the surfaces are getting shabby.

Soup was lukewarm. Pizza great flavor…except the layer of raw flour on the bottom of the crust. Way too much flour used on the pizza peel. Like a spoon of flour in your mouth with every bite.

Another good experience at Bistro 501. The Sunday Brunch has good food choices and attentive service.

501 is still amazingly good after the ownership change and reopening! Go before 6 if you can - the specials are insanely good. :)

We don't have time for a date night often, but 501 was just right. We stayed long enough to enjoy marrow bones as an appetizer, risotto for a main course, and sticky toffee carrot cake for dessert. Service was friendly, and food was just right.

The drink was good and dessert was good! I got the burger, was not expecting the burger to be blackened. Even though it was medium the burger itself was burnt tasting on the outside. Maybe that was my mistake for not reading the menu enough or maybe that’s just the style they do. My boyfriend didn’t mind it. The saffron solo wasn’t my favorite either just tasted like an artificial Smokey flavor. However the creme brûlée was amazing and I do see myself getting that again. The drink was very good as well. If I go again I just see myself maybe sitting at the bar and getting a drink, appetizer and dessert instead of a full meal. The waitress we had was super nice as well. So I’d say 3 stars for the actual meal but because of everything else and the service I’m doing 4 stars.

We went here for brunch while in town for our mother's memorial. It was so amazing that we purchased a gift card for the person helping us with arrangements as a thank you. The food was delicious and the staff on top of everything to provide quality service. If we are back in town again, this will be a stop.

Let me start by saying, I NEVER give full stars. It has to be life changing for me to do this. I cannot explain how insanely good this restaurant is. I had the NY Strip, it was actually one of the most delicious thing I have eaten in my entire life. I also tried the duck it was incredible. I don’t understand how this restaurant exists in a place like West Lafayette, it felt like a fever dream. Every bite I took was shocking. It was wow.

Me and my partner come here every so often and always sit at the bar and order drinks and meals. Most recently we stopped by today for Valentine's Day. I just have to commend the bartender (same one every time we go), and especially tonight. Despite how packed it was, he was just amazing and continuously gives us exceptional service. Especially enjoyed the Love Bomb drink he came up with for today, and the cherry dessert!

I always come here for special occasions. The food is always great. The menu has wonderful seasonal options, the cocktails are unique, and the pomme frittes never fail me. I had the Makers Mark ice cream dessert and it was life changing. I’ve never had a bad experience. 10/10 for the whole staff.

The service was good, however the food was quite disappointing, especially for that price. The website says that many vegan options are available, but it turns out that the only options are fries, a kale salad and a risotto that can be made vegan by request. I had the salad (which was fine) and risotto, which was unfortunately too salty to the point where I just returned it almost untouched. My partner’s meal (blackened salmon) was underwhelming as well. It’s a shame cause we were really looking forward to trying this place.

Our Go-To When Visiting Purdue ! The best ambiance, food, and service in the area. Fun market next door as well and the owner goes above and beyond to make things amazing. Bougie craft cocktail drinks and we’ve had practically everything on the menu over the last few years and always have a wonderful time. We give our Boilers gift cards for there for Xmas and Birthdays and they feel so special bringing a friend there who’s never visited. Cant go wrong

We had an amazing experience here! The food was outstanding and we could tell only the freshest ingredients went into it. The portions are large and left all of us with leftovers! Mary, the owner, is amazing, so lively and extremely personable. Will definitely be coming back here and we can’t wait!

The Bistro never disappoints! We have been coming here for years, from the moment you walk in the door you are greeted with a warm smile and always made to feel special! The food is outstanding!! Mouth watering taste with fall off the bone tenderness. The love and passion that Mary, Theresa and Cheyenne put in to this place everyday is on full display. Don’t forget to get a coffee drink and the carrot cake.

Mary and her amazing team are a jewel in our beautiful downtown. The food is always fantastic. The atmosphere is inviting. The staff PERFECT!

Had a bad experience with both the food (uncooked) and the service. Won't be back any time soon.

Once again Bistro 501 knocked it out of the park! We had a party of 12 and everyone was more than pleased the entire evening. We were greeted with a warm welcome by the owner and hostess, and the bartender went straight to work making everyone pre dinner drinks. Our table was set and ready for whenever we were all gathered and ready to sit. Our waiter hustled all night to make sure all 12 of us had everything we needed all evening in a timely manner. Food was spectacular as always. We shared a few orders of the smoked trout as appetizers, which is always a hit. A few reviews from our group: The burger was excellent and cooked perfectly. The pear and duck sausage pizza was the perfect seasonal meal. The Papadelle Diavla had the perfect amount of heat. The 3 who ordered steaks were members of the clean plate club! We will be back very soon!

Had another wonderful experience dining at the lovely Bistro 501. We had a large group and everyone left happy and satisfied. The service was excellent, the staff was friendly, and everyone loved the food. We will be back very soon!

The Duck Cassoulet was outstanding, two of our table of five ordered it. Pork chop plates were completely clean so that speaks for itself! One in our group stopped eating the Autumn salad so she could have the rest today! Pierogies, WOW!! We had one as an app and ordered another with dinner! Running back soon!!

The food, the staff, and the atmosphere is the best in the area!

Previously been here and loved it. Drove 45 minutes to celebrate a birthday, and sadly to say we would not go back. Upon arrival, hostess was standing and talking to a table, knew we came in, and didn’t stop to even acknowledge us or say one minute. Apps and dessert great, (tartare and oysters, then chocolate cake) entrees just okay. Soup served cold, we told our waiter but very good. Coffee ice cold, when served with dessert. Worse than the food issues was a table diagonal from us, ( was told before leaving they were previous employees) employees sitting around the table talking very loudly (even when another waitress said something) employees mixing and doing shots with them. Restrooms dirty! Very unprofessional and disrespectful to guests.

Overall rating: 49/100, would not go again nor recommend to someone else. Overall, this place aims for a fancy atmosphere, has the fancy prices, but misses on so many points (including paper covers on the tables for kids to draw on?). Notes from my party: Person 1: Got the lobster/crab bisque. Enjoyed the dish and it had great presentation. Ordered a beer that was warm when he got it. Persons 2 & 3: Got the steak with spinach. Neither ate more than two bites of the spinach because it wasn't very good. They enjoyed the steak which I think was average. Person 4: He got Ratatouilled by the pork chops which I think tasted like a regular Christmas ham. Person 5: Did not enjoy any part of his burger and fries which were burned/too crispy. Never received a drink he ordered. Me: Got the duck leg which made me feel like a medieval king. Would be great in medieval times, but is bland and boring today. Ordered a whiskey on the rocks and the ice they used was classic soda fountain crushed ice (very bad). However, I will note that the pierogis were the best that I have ever had. Service: Quite bad overall and not even close to the standard you would expect from the atmosphere they are attempting.

Delicious! We were visiting our daughter at Purdue and went for dinner. The food was perfectly prepared and the flavors were great. Best meal we’ve had in awhile. The staff service was also excellent.

Everything was wonderful - Eggplant and Burrata was over the top ! Cheese plate to start was awesome - the decor is amazing.

Made a reservation a week prior through Open Table with a confirmation number but front house had no notation. We were seated in the back room back room bar area and told front dining area was booked. Not what we expected. Food was not exceptional by any means but high priced. Wait staff was however very good. Overall disappointing.

Eclectic higher-end food, welcoming service, and good drinks. It's priced higher than chain restaurants, but the food is better. I will certainly return for another fine meal.

Went here for brunch, absolutely delicious, will return again! I got pancakes with fruit and whipped cream, side of fries, and french press coffee. Everything was very tasty, but portions are very large so be aware of that. Service was good as well, we didn’t make a reservation and they were able to accommodate us, which was very nice of them.

Some friends and I made a 5:30 reservation for dinner at Bistro 501 this evening. We had a play to go to at 7:30, which was two blocks away, so this should have been plenty of time, but by 7:05 we still did not have our food, so we had to just get it to go or we would not get to see the play. They told us "dinner here is a 2 hour experience". They should have told us that when we made the reservation. If we had stayed long enough to get our food and eat, it would have been well over 2 hours. I don't know if the food is good because I just got home and it's too late to eat now.

We went for the first time to Bistro 501 and tried their brunch. Overall good selection and good food! The waitress was very nice as well. Good selection of food for vegetarians, so bonus there. Also vegan options. It was a little pricey but we kind of expected that.

Food and service was egg-cellent! We came in for brunch and everything was delicious. We had the shrimp and grits, biscuits and gravy, and the chicken and waffles. I would recommend all of them but one thing I would like possibly changed is the crispness of the waffles. Flavors were on point but the waffles weren’t as crispy as I personally like. Maybe the plating could be changed where the waffles are on top of the chicken but other than that it was still amazing. The gravy in the biscuits and gravy is to die for and the shrimp and grits were rich and give a sense of comfort. Finally, finish things off with the bistro coffee and you’ll be set for the day!

Went here for dinner with my partner on a week night. The meal was off to a bad start with some complimentary bread and hard, unspreadable butter balls. Luckily, the steak tartare appetizer was redeeming with a delicious truffle herb vinaigrette. My partner had the Creole salmon and loved the combination of the soft, well-seasoned fish with the creamy grits. I thought my seafood cioppinno was alright. Solid dish but was missing the wow factor. For dessert, we had the sticky toffee carrot cake despite being recommended the creme brulee by a friend. My partner was very pleased with the dish but I thought it was too sweet. Overall, the service and the vibes were good given how busy the place was. However, I left feeling underwhelmed by the food given the price point.

Got the Duck and the Escargot, the onion soup, and the cod, all were dramatically underwhelming, lacking flavor that you couldn't create at home with sub par kitchen skills. Service was great! But the book was very sub-par. There are much better restaurants in Lafayette. Sad to spend an anniversary here.

My son and I had an amazing dinner here. Highly recommend the duck. Don't skip dessert. If my son ends up at Purdue, we will eagerly make a reservation here anytime we visit.

Phenomenal first time experience. They were accommodating to it being our anniversary night and sat it by a cute, street-side-window table. They have some pretty damn good escargot (a lot less gross than most people think) and their duck tacos are as if Applebee's wonton tacos decided to get dressed up for a night (i.e. tasty as heck). They served my new York strip to medium rare perfection and their optional bone marrow is decadent, but more of a sweeter marrow dish than I've had previously. Can't say anymore good things about Bistro, 10/10, would highly recommend!

I met some friends there for dinner, but am not a big fan of french food. So, I ordered the safe choice: a burger. I ordered it medium/ medium well and told the waiter closer to medium well done. What I got was rare and had mostly rare and uncooked hamburger in it. It was inedible. I tried to take a few bites of it after trying to cut out the rare part and gave up. DISGUSTING! Oh, they did take $6.00 off my bill. I guess I could get a big mac with that, which would have been much better than what I was served. At least I haven't gotten sick so far. But I don't have any plans to go back.

Good menu with fair pricing in regards to the quality of the food. Recommend getting a reservation ahead of time. Bartender and staff all incredibly friendly as well.

Brunch was amazing; my 5yo loved getting dressed up and "being fancy like Fancy Nancy." High end food with great options for kids and so many gluten free options. Dessert was divine!

We had a catered event from Bistro 501 and they fulfilled every aspect and went above and beyond! From beginning conversations, Cheyenne and her team took the time to listen and get to know our vision for the event. Their expertise and creativity are top notch. Every detail was thoughtfully planned and executed with professionalism, care, and love. The food was out of this world!!! The guests are still raving about the food (we are too!). A guest wrote us: "It was the best food I've ever had. I wish they could cook for me every day." Look no further for the best people and place. We love you, Bistro 501 team!

The food was delicious and has been but my family received really bad service with Jeff. It was a big deal and we were celebrating but he made us feel as if we were in poor taste for wanting amd asking for more bread (my kids enjoyed the bread and were trying hard to enjoy what they could), and he was a little too familiar proximity wise, reaching over people as if they didn't exist, and we did notice he was more attentive to the white table across from us, and more friendly. I think he thought he was being humorous when he was just being rude to brown and Black people who already weren't sure we'd get fair service. I've never not tipped in my life but there was no question the service was rude.

Made a reservation during weekdays. We got our table right away when we entered the restaurant, even though there’re already many people there dinning in. I really love the decoration and their style. Jess was our server and she is amazing. Since it was our first time going there, she introduced and recommended the menu with great passion and profession. I absolutely recommend the duck and steak tartare. The snails were little oily for us to digest. The coconut cake was fabulous as a dessert! We enjoyed the dinner and definitely will go there again.

Sat on the patio for Sunday brunch and it was lovely. Delightful coffee. Got corned beef hash and it was an experience. Fat well rendered, poached eggs and a mix of sweet potatoes and peppers, just lovely. Had another visit and it was still excellent. I reccomend the shrimp and grits, i've got em twice with a side of baked beans each time. The bar area is so nice with tables well spaced and an a relaxed atmosphere.

Food is delicious. Unique taste from different cousins. Pricewise, it totally worth it. When I consider what could have been better, I could say serving could have been faster. A need burboun whiskey took 15 minutes to come my table.

Went with my Fiancé and some family. The décor is charming albeit a bit bland. I do appreciate the large windows and what appears to be local art for sale. The waiting staff was very attentive and overall were fantastic. All of the food we ordered was tasty and well seasoned, but quite rich and a tad salty. This salt wasn't a con for me; However, the richness of the different sauces, cheeses, and creams was a bit much. I do think the pricing is an issue; The food was good, but for two people it was over $100. I don't think the food justified that high of a price, but I wouldn't complain at around $75 for two people. Can't really recommend this as a regular place to eat at their prices, but we will definitely come back eventually.

I was in town for a couple of days and my friend took me to Bistro 501. I have to say it is such a beautiful restaurant with great service and food. The chicken and waffles were excellent!

I have never been disappointed by the food here. Service is wonderful, lots of personal space around every table, subtle lighting... Just a great upscale eatery. Last night I had what was perhaps the best meal I've ever had. Walnut brocolnni linguine. The flavor combination in this entrée is flat out unbelievable. I say unbelievable here without hyperbole. I was seriously confused how something could taste that good. Make a reservation. Meal for 2 w a bottle of wine was around $100. Great menu. Just can't say enough good things about bistro 501.

The food was fine, but not worth the price in my opinion. The chunk of mushroom in the middle of the risotto might be aesthetically appealing, but just made eating difficult.

Great for brunch. Chicken and waffle is the best around. Biscuits and gravy are done amazingly with just enough of a unique seasoning to set it apart. Had the hot cider bourbon and a bloody Mary, both were a treat. Would highly recommend, there are just enough options on the menu to be able to find something for everyone.

Good formal-ish high end food in Lafayette. We liked the appetizers and all the main courses were to perfection. We may haven better off ordering only one appetizer because of quantity was big. For my significant other’s birthday away from home, this was a perfect restaurant for a formal dinner near Purdue.

We tried Bistro 501 for the first time last night. I must say from start to finish including greeting, beverage service, speed of delivery, the decor, the ambiance, consistently keeping waters topped off( this is huge for me), but ultimately the absolutely superb meal, this was an exceptional experience. We live on the Northwest side of Indianapolis and this is definitely a worthwhile destination. What a gem!

one of it not lafayettes best place to eat. the food is seasonal and really fairly priced for the portions you get. i came here for a pre valentines dinner and was blown away. our server was amazing and had the perfect food recomendations and a great atitude. i cant wait for the next visit!

Relaxing environment, excellent service, and delicious Escargot and porkchop. Unfortunately, the dinner rolls tasted a day old, and french fries are make from fresh potatoes, but it's soft instead of crispy. The mussels in the cioppino were not fresh, and they were happy to make me a new one but the problem persisted !

Great french restaurant with nice service and good vibe. The seafood is fresh and absolutely delicious. The tofu is rich and cream. Love the sauce. Also, it's a vegan friendly restaurant. I don't like the cocktail though.

The new Bistro Market and Deli is a WINNER! Not only does it provide a transformative experience coupled with outstanding product quality and attention to detail. I stopped in last week to sample the pastrami sandwich with a plan to return to my office and have lunch but due to the overwhelming aroma I ended up sitting in my car a devouring the amazing sandwich in record time. :)

A dinner that stands out. The menu is unique, service was amazing, food simply delicious and crafted to perfection. From the starter drinks to dessert everything was delicious. I will come back from Chicago for a meal here. Rack of lamb 5 stars. I feel at home. I cannot say enough great things 2 say about bistro 501. Oh yes...my server was superb. Take some time 2 talk 2 Mary. Key lime pie just arrived...Nutrisytem diet is out the window 2 night and I do not care. Whenever I am zipping up I65 from a biz trip or just want a great meal or brunch, I have been known to drive down to Chicago, just to have a meal here. Ate lunch at the new Bistro Marketplace next door yesterday..10/19/21. Check out the spices and the Balsamic Vinegar to bring home. Hope to make it down for dinner 1 more time before the holidays.

Without question the best restaurant I’ve been to in West Lafayette. The atmosphere was beautiful, warm, and unique. Elegant, intriguing menu with lots of delicious food that was decently priced. Service was friendly, prompt, and made us feel very welcome. I cannot recommend the mushroom pasta enough, truly phenomenal. We will definitely be back!

Hands down the best menu in Lafayette. The team of the three Buckley women (mother and 2 daughters) have created a culinary delight in the heart of downtown. Chef driven menu that is always creative and delicious. We never get tired of eating here. The cocktails are always prepared perfectly and the service outstanding. The menu usually changes seasonally but some things are staples including the delightful duck tacos, bine marrow, and wedge salad! Bon Appetite!

This is a great restaurant for those with vegan family members. There were food choices for all diets. Nice wine choices. Really enjoyed the escargot, eggplant and meat entrees. Will definitely go back when in Lafayette. Parking is on the street so allow a little time to find a spot.

Sitting outside was so nice, comfortable and pleasant . Service was excellent. The food was very good, a bit spicy at times. so you will want to make sure you know what you're getting.

This review is specific to the adjoining deli and market space: My husband and I have been going and today we had their hot lunch sandwiches. SO GOOD. I must have inhaled it. They also have a selection of British treats now. Every time I go in, there are new things, you have to check it out!

We were in from out of town and stopped by for dinner. The food was quite good if not excellent - one of those rare (and getting rarer these days) experiences where you remember the meal weeks after enjoying it. One of the most flavorful risottos we have ever had, the warm goat cheese and tomato appetizer had full flavor. Maybe the magic is in their ingredients, if we lived in Lafayette it would be a favorite. The service was ok, not remarkable, but the waiter didn't know much about the restaurant so maybe he was filling in. Reminder to bar staff, don't serve the IPA beer warm if the cooler is not working, or at least inform the the diner first. A rare place to recommend to friends.
