Get ready to pay close to $40 for some average BBQ and couple beers. But, I could spend that across the street at Toups and get uniquely cheffed up food and specialty meats ,etc. This is simple BBQ! And the 'revolving door" of staff makes for inconsistent service. They are always out of items on busy nights and the quality and "smokiness" depends on the business of the restaurant. When it's busy (which is usually) the quality and quantity goes down considerably and the meat has little to no smoke flavor. I noticed this the last few times on busy weekends. The sides used to be really good, now they are small and lack in taste. The Mack N Cheese used to be really goood,,,,,now it tastes weird! The prices are WAY outrageous for what you get. I know prices have gone up everywhere, but I expect to be full when I eat BBQ, and after about $40 I need to go somewhere nearby for a burger or tacos or something!

Let me start by saying....wow. I'm not sure if I caught it on a bad day or what but the food today was absolutely a let down. After over 20 minutes waiting, I got a cold brisket sandwich with soupy macaroni and my wife got a greasy chicken sandwich with nasty coleslaw. For $42 it should have been better....

Food was great!!! I love a good Bbq sandwich with coleslaw but the fact that I was able to taste the coleslaw through the bbq sauce says a lot! It was so good and the service was fast and employees were super nice, we’ll definitely be back In had the Bbq Brisket Sandwich

This place was great! The food is amazing and they have some very unique food items. We are from Florida and were down in NOLA visiting family and would definitely suggest you giving this place a try. The manager and all staff were very friendly and attentive. Worth it for sure!

Really cool place for a nice meal. The brisket and the turkey are my favorites. Also loved the garlic Mac n cheese. Everyone was real nice and very helpful. The food came fast, hot and the meat choices were juicy and flavorful. I would definitely come back. My only problem is I went twice and they don’t have burn ends. I asked and they said no and never offered a day they might so I have to assume they never have them which is a party foul if you have a bbq joint if you ask me. Overall very good though. Not a fan of the sausage, kinda dry.

I was told by some of the other locals about their experience here, I could not disagree with them more. This is some of the best BBQ that I have had in a long time, it was so flavorful. Me and a friend had the pulled pork sandwich, brisket, mac and cheese, brussels sprouts, and coleslaw. All so very good, the staff is very friendly as well (Adore Sarah Martinez) this is a great family spot as well. So if you have a BBQ craving check them out, you will not be disappointed, and for the record, The Pit can't hold a candle to them.

We had the best lunch! We got the "all meats and all sides" family meal and it was really delicious. We liked that side items had more flair than the usual BBQ sides. Ginger sesame slaw, roasted garlic mac and cheese, watermelon salad, roasted Brussels sprouts.... And now we have lunch for tomorrow, too!

Plenty of space and seating at this establishment and the food is ok but I would definitely not recommend the Mac and cheese, I don't know what I received but it wasn't like any Mac and cheese I've ever had. Seemed like a they put thousand island dressing and put some old bay seasoning on some fusilli pasta. They were better of with the box one's my kids wouldn't even taste it. The smoked wings and ribs were enjoyable.

Just arrived in NOLA and found ourselves the BEST bbq joint in town! Amazing service, welcoming faces, incredible food and the best drinks we’ve had in ages. We’ll definitely be back soon!!

Decided to return for lunch agian.. the fly issue needs to be resolved , they are all over can't eat in peace Prime time lunch stop! We got our food right away , it was hot and delicious.

Overall a very good BBQ place and so far the best BBQ place I have visited in the New Orleans area. Food is good and so is the service and general vibe in the place. I ordered: - Brisket lean (very good) - Brisket fatty (also good, but would have loved the fat to be a bit more rendered) - Hot link (great sausage! Juicy and packed with well balanced flavors) - Chicken: (perfect BBQ chicken! Juicy, smoky and with a very crispy skin) - Pulled pork sandwich (well balanced pulled pork sandwich with a good slaw) - Man’nCheese (OK garlic Mac’nCheese. I am a big fan of garlic, but the garlic taste was overpowering the rest of this dish)

Always a bad sign when rib joints run out of ribs at 7pm day before the 4th. No posted menus until you walk up to place order. Female order taker was rushing thru my order and not explaining confusing parts of their menu. Didn’t ask if order was for here or to go, bought food out on a tray but did pack it up when we pointed out the mistake. Second order did not receive a receipt, order taker was rude when we asked for it. Checked on our other order and the guy w/ the boot says it’s only been 13 minutes as if that was an explanation, I guess their food takes along time to come out. Overall underwhelming customer service and mid flavored food. No bread offered with $22 dinner, available upon request. Won’t be back, better rib joints in No with better food and way better service.

Love the spicy chicken sandwich!! The best one I have ever had. I could say I am addicted to it and do is my family. Their Brussels sprouts and Mac and cheese are also amazingly delicious! Cocktails are good too.

I was having difficulty placing an online ecard purchase & the VERY kind and professional manager (Sarah) assisted me over the phone during lunch hour rush! She was patient, kind, & so helpful. No wonder this is one of my sisters (NOLA local) very favorite dining spots.

If it takes 30+ minutes to answer the phone for a to-go order, I don’t want the food.

I’d slide this into the “Good but not great” category. They’re in the process of opening a store in my state of Alabama and I don’t think they’re ready for what real BBQ is.

Waited 40 min for my order , when I arrived, there was nobody In the restaurant, by the time I received my food the restaurant was pack and everybody was eating . I had to go up to the front and ask where was my order, mind you this is 30 min in of me waiting . Front cashier told me my food wasn’t ready ? How ? I was the only person in the building when I order my food . Trash service , I’ve been coming to blue oak when they first started at the chiki wa wa . Now their quality have fallen off , my food was dry and horrible by the time I gotten. Threw it in the trash , for 40 dollars a plate was not worth the wait .

The staff here is the best part of the meal! & the BBQ is finger licking good

I was there on May 30th with my whole family (16 of us from NJ) to celebrate my mom’s birthday on our family vacation to New Orleans. I rarely write reviews but I HAD to write this. We travel and we EAT. Blue Oak was, by far, one of the best meals we’ve ever had. BBQ included. The meat was all tender and fall off the bone. The sauces paired with them perfectly (best jerk BBQ sauce I’ve had outside of Jamaica. Bought 2 bottles to bring home). And the sides…THE SIDES!!…stole the show themselves. TO. DIE. FOR. We did a few of the family meals and a few people got one-off menu items. Not a single person was disappointed. To top it off, the manager on duty that night (I’m blanking on his name, Chris maybe?!) was amazing! My husband and I own a food establishment and I’m always hyper aware of how businesses are run and managed. We were there for a few hours and the entire flow was seamless, not just for us. The young woman at the register was so patient and so kind to everyone, the kitchen staff were quick and efficient. Not a single customer waited long for their food. Tables were cleaned up immediately, customers checked on. Truly the place ran like a well-oiled machine. And the bartender! She was amazing too! Drinks were on point and she handled our large partly with ease and smiles. All in all, I would recommend every single person make time for a meal here. Yes it’s outside of the heart of the city but you will not regret it. I’m already craving it! And can’t wait to go back. Blue Oak will for sure be my first meal.

BBQ gumbo was filling and delicious

Food is always great. Bartender service is lacking. They never acknowledged me after I sat down, walked by me numerous times, never asked if I needed anything to drink. No body behind bar 90 percent of the time. Pretty terrible service

This place is a joke and a slap in the face to anyone who knows real BBQ. The owners are trust fund, rich boys who decided to capitalize on good, southern food and turn it into Applebee's. They under pay their staff and micromanage everyone until they wanna quit. Don't waste your time.

Favorite BBQ in NOLA. Great food, people and patio. We enjoy all their food and sides. I love the brisket and sausage. Very friendly staff. Go check them out.

Overpriced and very bland. Tasted like I was at a (unmelenated) Baptist church picnic. But one that delusionally charges $25 a plate. There are MUCH better BBQ joints in this city.

Top 3 best bbq I’ve had in New Orleans. Genuinely not a single thing has disappointed- I got the brisket and ribs with both sides Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese sides (I got it togo/delivery) were filled to the brim and topped with breadcrumbs it has a bit of Cajun spice but just enough to be seasoned where it doesn’t over power the cheese flavor a good Mac should have. The ribs were pre-sauced and sticky, Smokey, and not super fatty. Was able to clean them to the bone without picking out any fatty pieces like some places have. The brisket (I got sliced lean) is also delicious and worth the small upcharge from Uber eats. 5 stars and a new repeat customer

They don't serve the quarter white meat chicken or baby back ribs. Seating is tight.

I saw this on a YouTube video by Jolly and the food looked amazing. This is a clear example of where looks are deceiving. The food is meh at best. Somebody is heavy handed with the salt. Every dish my family had was too salty. Everything was just okay. It wasn't worth the price paid and definitely not a place I would recommend. The service was just as good as the food. Both employees we encountered did not listen. My daughter asked for more queso for her nachos and was met with a flippant response of "there's queso on them". The atmosphere is nice. The best part of the meal was the beans and the white bread.

Damn!!! That’s some tasty BBQ! The smoked wing and turkey were my favorite. And, that spicy vinegar BBQ sauce will live rent free in my head! We did buy some to bring home. The brussel sprouts were stupid good.

Service was quick and efficient. I had the brisket and chicken with sides of the ginger sesame slaw and brussel sprouts. The food was amazing. I sat outside. Lots of room and lots of shade from the heat. Awesome meal. I can't wait to go back. I really appreciate they had cold water on the patio and even thought to have water dishes for dogs too. Just absolutely incredible.

I ordered the Trinity Red beans and rice with a slice of brisket, one rib and one sausage lunch special. The red beans and rice was delicious. I don’t think I ever had a smoke sausage link quite like that, in a good was. The brisket was tender and flavorful, but not as juicy as I like. The rib was super sticky sweet. Super nice staff!

I'm really I'll on this day...to weak to stand ova the stove ..so I had a taste for some good old barbecue right...so I went on where you at magazine...yelp...so I gave it if a shot... Honey my mouth watering for barbecue.,.. I was disappointed 😞. The barbecue was all brunt up ....just my luck for trusting where you at magazine I'm sorry.... maybe I should dine in next time 😔

I wanted the Trinity plate but they were out of ribs. Settled for the brisket plate with baked beans and Cole slaw. It took them about 15 minutes to get my food out. They weren't busy, so I don't understand why it took so long. I was surprised for the lack of the amount of food you get for a $20 brisket plate. Just look at it. It's not enough food for an average human to get full off of. The brisket was decent, although too thinly sliced for my taste, the beans were good, but the Cole slaw was limp, the cabbage was not crunchy, and the taste, blah. Anyways, I left hungry and went to Felipe's down the street to get a nachos.

We got our wedding catered by Blue Oak and they were amazing. Heath was so communicative ahead of the event and made sure that everything went off without a hitch. Smoked turkey, sweet potato burnt ends, baked beans, mac and cheese, and more. So many complements on the food. They put wooden looking boxes over their chafing dish set up so it doesn't look like you're typical buffet and looks a lot more polished. Everything we wanted and more ♥️

I would usually go for brisket or other bbq favs, but an employee recommended the chicken salad sandwich. Best chicken salad I've ever had. Will definitely go again

Clueless in New Orleans We were craving good BBQ we did a search of what place in our area and this popped up! We took the streetcar, about 30 stops and arrived, we were amazed by the amount of people sitting eating and the amount of people on line. The line went fast, the food took a while, but good things come to those who wait! Food was OUTSTANDING!!!! some of the BEST bbq we have ever had!!!! If you are in the area looking for a great place , GO! YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!

Got there at 8:30 at they said they were no longer excepting orders or seating guests. Manager’s direct orders. Usually when a restaurant says they close at 9 PM that’s the time they stop seating people and excepting new orders. But I guess these guys haven’t got the memo yet 🤷🏻‍♂️ I went ahead and updated the restaurant hours to reflect have a restaurant functions in practice vs in theory.

Sign posted Sorry no ribs. Cashier stated it may be a wait. I was willing to wait but manager said no more tonight. 20 minutes later ribs on plates for other customers. I was not happy. Thanks Blue Oak

Amazing food, generous portions and was still hot when delivered to our hotel. We had leftovers for a couple days and reheated great!!

I’ve been here probably 3 dozen times. I came in tonight with 6 people, and we all individually ordered. I specifically asked for only Cheese, Lettuce & Tomato on my burger. I was given a fully dressed burger, which I brought back and explained. They then came out and gave me another burger which was still fully dressed. I returned it and politely just asked for it to be fixed. I was then greeted with an angry employee coming to my table, slamming the burger in-front of me and walking away. EXTREMELY rude for such an expensive meal, and seriously disappointing as a local who’s been coming here for 5+ years. We spent over $200! Wont be back.

The food isn’t too bad. The vibe is fun as well. The portions are small. The restaurant is on a busy road so be ready to find street parking.

Heard great things; was...meh. Very skimpy on the portions, brisket was way too fatty and undercooked, sausage was not the correct mix of protein to fat (too fatty), mac and cheese was too salty, selection of mediocre tasting sauces available to dine in was limited. Brussels and slaw were fantastic. Happy to see the jalapenos/onions/pickles out for self-service. Friendly staff. I did go on a day they were participating in a larger BBQ fest somewhere so probably had the B team cooking, but still, in my opinion did not live up to its reputation.

The potato salad and the coleslaw tasted, "different" this is my first time here, so I don't know what they were going after. I guess I'm used to texas style. The meats we're ok.

Traveling from sunny Florida for a family wedding and sight seeing in NOLA for a week. We went to City Park for the day and happened upon Blue Oak BBQ restaurant. I had the pulled pork sandwich with baked beans and my son had a hamburger with fries. The baked beans were TO DIE FOR...BEST I EVER HAD!!!! The burger was cooked to perfection and the pulled pork sandwich was mouth watering. Thank you for good ole fashion southern BBQ!

Okay- So just to be clear, I have very high smoked meats expectations. I lived in Texas where BBQ joints are a dime a dozen. Parking is not great- you will be rolling back and forth up the road scaling. So, I took my husband here for his birthday lunch this past week. I ordered 2 meat combo- brisket and sausage with Brussels and side of the day - potato smash. Hubby ordered 2 meat combo- ribs and turkey with beans and Mac n cheese. 2 drinks. Bill was 70 bucks. Food came out about 12 minutes later. The portions were so small- I literally thought they forgot some of my food. 1 slice of brisket- no flavor- it was tender- just no smoke, salt, pepper (nada). My sausage was mushy and had very little snap on break. My first side of Brussels were great. My second side of potato smash- was cabbage ????. I took this back and inquired about my original side. They ran out. Whoever thought I wanted cabbage after already ordering Brussels- need to be talked to. Anywho- it eventually got traded for baked beans- which were tasty. My hubby turkey was lackluster and his TWO ribs he received were smothered in sauce. No choice to add your own. His Mac n cheese had a Cajun flare to it- he said he didn’t mind. Bottom line- no smoke, no flavor, tiny portions wit huge price. First and only time for me. Thanks

After watching Diners, Drive Ins and Dives I really needed some bbq, stat! I’d never been here, but it was truly delish! Pulled pork sandwich was even better than Buc-ee’s! Haha. But also, true! On a less hungover day I’m gonna try their boozy desserts!

Sat outdoors for the first time and had the spicy chicken sandwich because they were out of brisket. The sandwich was great and seating outdoors was nice.

We went on a busy Saturday afternoon and every single staff member was so nice, attentive and went above and beyond! The food was 10/10, best BBQ in New Orleans, Louisiana for sure! We will definitely be back!

Food was amazing. So satisfying. House bbq sauce is some of the best I’ve had in southern bbq. Perfectly tangy-sweet-spicy. Sides are great, don’t miss the Mac n cheese. Everything goes great with a beer holy heck. I wasn’t even really hungry when we went and I think my body just responded to the smells or something and I went from not needing food to almost like I had to eat. Can’t imagine how I would’ve behaved if I came here starving so be careful and don’t necessarily “order with your stomach” … TRY THE FRENCHMAN SANDWICH. Service workers were great, bartender was super nice and helpful and didn’t make fun of me for butchering the name of a beer like a 4 year old. only downside to the “service” was line was kinda long, but it gives you time to make up your mind. Atmosphere is nice, place is well kept up, clean, organized, bathroom is clean. Typical bbq joint ambiance. Main thing is the food, which is the point right? Easy 5 stars.

Food was excellent. Nothing wrong with the cuisine or the service. However, I walked in on a man using the single use restroom with the door wide open. The way the restrooms are constructed create a blind spot for a potential restroom user, adding to the shock I experienced tonight. I even apologized to the man urinating with the door flung open, which was salt in the wound. Why should I apologize? I am no prude. I would not censor or support censorship. However, in the presence of delicious barbecue food, I’d rather not walk in on a stranger using the single use restroom. That being said, there was absolutely NOTHING wrong with my meal. They actually ran out of brisket somehow but I didn’t matter because I didn’t want brisket anyway. Congratulations on a 10/10 meal. Uncongratulations on poor bathroom etiquette. Over and out.

So, get this. POOP in my BRISKET. Yeah, poop. It was horrible. Service was pretty good though, I don't know if the poop is standard or what, but if you eat around it the brisket was pretty tender and juicy, besides the POOP. The mac & cheese was immaculate, fortunately no poop there, HOWEVER.. My BRUSSEL SPROUTS? Loaded. Sprayed with the bowels of whoever was cooking that abomination. Pretty good. We find that the Blue Oak BBQ is one of the best we have ever seen. The food had always been delicious, no matter what we have had there. The service is also always good, prompt and friendly. This place can get very busy, especially around lunchtime, but the line moves very fast. Another plus is it’s also very convenient to the bus and streetcar lines.

I love BBQ but this place was average at best. They were out of ribs at 5:00 on a Saturday. That should have told me something. We had the 3 meat combo (brisket, pulled pork and turkey). It came out room temperature and very greasy. The sides were ok (BBQ beans were the best, coleslaw and Mac and Cheese were a pass). I shared the meal with my girlfriend who beat me to the punch and said this was definitely not the best BBQ we've had or anywhere near it.

This was the most disappointing meal and experience that I’ve had in a LONG time. The cashier made the comment “oh lucky me” when we were checking out. We couldn’t figure out what or whom the comment was directed at but it wasn’t a start to what I would equate to a fast food dining experience. They were out of ribs at 5:30pm on a Saturday night, the pulled pork was plain and tasted alright without sauce, but that’s not really barbecue. The worst part was all the sauces sucked. We tried all of them and they were so bad I just brought the majority of my pulled pork home so I could eat it with a decent sauce. The options for sides were lacking in my opinion and the Mac & Cheese was so watery I could only eat 3-4 bites because it was so bad, I’d literally rather eat Mac & cheese from a box. To add to the disappointment, a 2.25% service charge is added to every bill but it’s not disclosed until you get your receipt since you order at a counter and there aren’t any signs telling you they do this. I don’t object to the charge itself but it should be disclosed in advance when you’re pay at a counter. For BBQ Central City is hands down a better meal and experience all around.

The best barbecue I have ever had. Everything was absolutely incredible; even he sides were outstanding, specially the brussel sprouts. I will be missing this place once I go back home in FL.
