TL;DR - It was amazing! I first learned about Brushland Eating House during COVID. Every time I looked at their Airbnb, it was booked. Finally, the schedule aligned. The week’s menu was: Mushroom Focaccia, Romano Bean Soup, Tomato Salad, Cavatelli, Chicken Pollo Alle Melanzane, and Olive Oil Cake. My partner has an allium sensitivity and is also a vegetarian so they not only made an entirely different menu that was vegetarian, but they even altered the vegetable dishes to remove the onions. The vegetarian entree was Gormeh Sabzi, which was the tastiest version of this dish I’ve ever had, and I’ve had plenty of Sabzi The service was also very attentive, and the mix of people who chose to drive all the way out here made for great conversations. My only regret is that I did not do this earlier. Looking forward to another wonderful meal in the future!

Everything was exceptional. The space is lovely and inviting, and you all nailed it with the lighting. The waitstaff was warm and friendly. However, the real star of the show was the food. As a former chef I know firsthand that making ‘basic’ dishes (like a roast chicken) really sing is the mark of a great chef. While at first roasted potatoes might seem simple, they were elevated to a new high with a chicken fat aioli. The tomato salad with red onion and romaine was delicately dressed to perfection with a light touch of buttermilk ranch dressing. Moreover, a pre-coursed meal can often times leave me feeling overly stuffed. Not so with Brushland! The chef designed a menu that had a perfect amount of food that left us satisfied but not uncomfortable. And, for all this made with love and the freshest of local farm to table ingredients, the price is beyond reasonable. We will absolutely be returning!!

this is such a fun, beautiful, delish experience. the staff is attentive and the eclectic beverage choices are a fun way to add to the experience. the skin contact wine from Iran was amazing. be sure to not eat a big lunch, plenty of tasty food and timed out not to rush. The chef owner is strangely shy and out going helping the staff on the floor and giving a slightly awkward welcome speech which I personally loved. the single picture of John Starks dunking on Jordon in the bathroom always makes me smile. I truly believe the extremely rare one star reviews are from people who spend their lives rehearsing for their own unhappiness. If you enjoy life book a table at Brushland's and take your time because nobody is rushing you out the door. Thank you Sohail and team.

Such a wonderful experience on our honeymoon. The menu was so thoughtful, tailored to the local growing season, and very very tasty. With such a limited seating per night, it felt so much more social as we were able to interact with staff and learn about the dishes, where the produce came from, and Bovina. It was such a special night.

Absolutely incredible experience. From the moment you walk in the space feels so warm and welcoming and comfortable. Everyone working here is very kind and intentional in creating a wonderful experience. The beverage list was unique and delicious- wine and beer both. The food left me speechless...simple yet complex, the flavors were exciting and expertly executed. The portions were perfect, just enough to enjoy the course but not be overly full by the end. Each course was paced very well and we never felt rushed to finish something. Everything was fresh and very high quality, approachable dishes with an upscale touch. It's clear a lot of thought and talent is behind each and every aspect. The atmosphere in the restaurant was communal and fun, but it was also easy to let it melt away and be present with whoever you're dining with. One of the best dining experiences I've had in NY and I can't wait to go back. :)

Dining at Brushland Eating House was a wonderful experience. The cozy, welcoming atmosphere and charming decor made me feel right at home. The owners are amazing, greeting us personally and making us feel like cherished guests. The farm-to-table menu is outstanding, featuring fresh, local ingredients in every dish. I especially loved the raw asparagus and deviled eggs. The service was impeccable, with spot-on wine recommendations, including a chilled red wine that I need to go back for again. Brushland Eating House is a must-visit for anyone seeking delicious, thoughtfully prepared food in a warm, inviting setting. Highly recommended!

This is my favorite restaurant experience in the world. The same time seating, the atmosphere, the food, it’s all amazing. You won’t find anything like it anywhere else. The owner and chef remembered after nearly two years that my wife and I enjoyed their olive oil cake and surprised us at the end of the meal with a little slice to take home—even though it wasn’t on the menu! Lovely spot. Lovely people.

Simply the nicest dining experience we can remember from start to finish. It's different when you sign up for the menu sight unseen and get to see how a kitchen can knock out every course better than the next. I've eaten some of the best meals of my life at Brushland. There is no other place like it: welcoming in a way that distinguishes it from pretty much any other restaurant. Rather than the palpable stress that you usually feel in a restaurant, the laid back vibe and quiet but methodical kitchen is possible due to the simple and humane format: 1 meal, 1 service, three nights a week. If the attention to detail in the food - every course, every morsel - doesn't melt the hard heart of the reluctant cynics among us (note the angry posts here about hipsters and outsiders), the kindness and generosity of the owners will (just to be clear, the food is stellar). While it is not cheap, it is worth saving up for a special occasion. The food and ambiance could easily be two or three times as expensive and it would still draw a sizable crowd. And the portions are very generous - often a complimentary cocktail and digestif and you always leave full. Attentive but unobtrusive service. This is a place where the "flow" has been perfected, and as a guest you have the privilege of being part of something rare and wonderful. Farm to table, with French and Persian influences. I hope that you can experience what we experience at Brushland.

Went last year for a meal after hearing the hype and were terribly disappointed. They gave a speech at the start of the meal which was lovely and we liked how they passed the tray of after dinner drinks from one guest to the next. Both of those created a lovely spirit of connection. Other than that, would never go back. The food was awful. Not one good thing to say about it. Not sure why they get these glowing reviews but the "Emperor has no clothes" comes to mind.

Chef introduced himself and the staff at the outset and encouraged everyone to make it more than just about eating food and instead engage in a communal experience. This is the absolute worst meal I’ve ever had at what is touted as an upscale dining experience. The so called chef who openly admits in his self serving speech to the diners has had trouble with inspiration. Might I suggest he sample a meal at Mill Pond Inn. Very warm and communal dining experience with delicious and seasonal food, laidback, but professional service, and an elegant yet cozy vibe. We went here for my girlfriend’s bday dinner and it did not disappoint. 4 course pre-fixed menu and drinks available. Also, the food is served to tables individually, you are not eating with strangers, but everyone starts eating around the same time. It’s communal in the sense that everyone is sharing the same meal at the same time, you can of course choose to buddy up with the table next to you or not. Depends on you, which we appreciated. Would love to come back soon!

Another outstanding meal and service at Brushland Eating House tonight. The three of us had a combination of items from the regular menu (One Flip Burger; Roasted Carrots; Hand-Rolled Pasta) and specials (Brussel Sprouts; Burrata with Butternut Squash; Venison Tenderloin), and all was (as we have come to expect) expertly and properly cooked, seasoned, and served. Our server took the time to offer me generous trial-sized portions of two different red wines so I could choose one, and he graced us with the same attentiveness and respect that the kitchen gives the food. The music selection (a mix of 1960s and '70s songs from Spotify) was delightful and eclectic, and the noise level from fellow diners was unobtrusive. Great meal, great service, great ambiance, and (once again) one of the greatest restaurants in upstate NY. Well worth the 45-60 minute drive through snow and cold from Oneonta!

The one-flip burger might be the best burger I've ever had, anywhere. The drive to this restaurant is like passing through a postcard of Old America: falling-apart red barns, forgotten clapboard houses, cows along the edge of a highway. It's worth a visit to the Catskills just to eat here. For a moment, you could be in Brooklyn when you enter the space and see the chalkboard menu and the old-timey bar. We called this past Saturday for a reservation and were told the only available seating were either at 5 or 9:30 pm. We decided to try our luck w/o a reservation and drove 30 mins from Roxbury thru the mountains. The restaurant is really cute and cozy and we were able to get seating at the bar. There were one two tables available the entire evening, not sure why we were told there were no reservation between 7 and 8. The feeling inside the restaurant is more NY City that Catskills. The music too loud (for me), the servers "gently" pressing you to order, and then take the plates away from you (while we were still "working on it"). Not really the laid back experience that we anticipated. Too bad. On the food side, we had the toast with fava beans (5 small pieces of baguette - the size of one silver dollar - for $10), the baked carrots (good), the sunchokes and cauliflower (good), the cast iron chicken (nothing special), and finished dinner with the brown butter Blondie (really good).
