Place is amazing! Great food, a must try!!

The Lobster Gnocchi is absolutely amazing. I mean its been a while since i put gnocchi in my mouth and said “hot damn, this is some flipping good gnocchi “. And that happened. Mind the market price, because at 72 dollars it may make you think “should i?” But the answer is still a yes you should, this one time. I do have to knock a star off because of the server. They were very charming and on top of our table. However they forgot our apps, so they came after the mains and only after i reminded the server. Not really a big deal, except im paying the equivalent of a monthly car payment for a meal for two people so i expect that not to happen. The atmosphere is intimate but and dark. I did not notice anything overly charming and was very aware of the other people as they did their job. Nothing bad but nothing special.

We’ve been told that it was the place to go in the area and I’d have to agree! The cocktail list was expensive and delicious.The service was quick but never rushed. The staff seemed very o work well together. The staff were so helpful in letting me know what was gluten free and knowledgeable about cross contamination which is so refreshing. And expensive meal but well worth it.

We were seated at exactly the table that I had requested. It was very busy at 5:30 Saturday, and staff was literally running, but when they stopped at a table, they pulled themselves together and presented themselves as calm, professional and friendly. The pollack piccata was excellent. The house made vanilla ice cream paired with the fennel almond torte was worth the trip in itself. (Wines by the glass are on the other side of the food menu, and there is a wide selection of bottled wines in a separate folder.) My partner had an excellent Pino Grigio, and I had an equally delicious Malbec. They have a cocktail called "I Wish There Was More Communication," which is a good example of their overall character of inventive cuisine. My partner and I loved this place, and we will return.

Small, intimate place with a very nice menu, great service, and a high end vibe. Had the octopus as an appetizer, and the monk fish both very tasty. Two thumbs up for this waterfront classic.

Our favorite date night spot without a doubt. The fish and seafood is always the freshest and the sauces are delectable. Drinks, apps, and dessert are always top notch as well.

What a meal! My husband and I visited the carriage House on a kid-free evening and did not hold back. The cocktail menu was unique and delicious (we tried several). All of the food we ordered (a lot) was wonderful - fresh and well-prepared. The service was exceptional. One of the owners (RJ!) was a childhood friend of my husband and he made us feel so special. Highly recommend the Carriage House and can't wait to visit again.

Great service! They were able to seat us about an hour before our reservation time. They were extremely accommodating. The service was amazing and the food was fantastic! Definitely will be coming back here!

The parking situation is unacceptable. We enjoy the Carriage House but will not return unless the parking situation is resolved. I am 80, my wife 67, she drove around for half an hour, parked a half mile away, had to walk back to the car in the rain. There are like 6 parking places. While I waited for my wife, I watched other folks, older and younger, clearly struggle with the same issue. You need to make an arrangement to get more space or initiate valet parking. It is crazy.

My husband and I had a great evening having dinner at The Carriage House! The menu featured wonderful and different seafood options for me and an amazing short-rib special for my husband. The atmosphere was relaxing and we will definitely go back!

The food was pretty good, nothing amazing. Seems like a big alcohol place, so for non-drinkers the atmosphere wasn’t great. There is barely any parking!! We should have Ubered but ended up having a 10 min walk to where we could find parking.

The drinks were delicious and the beef Bolognese was one of the best I've ever had!! Delicious swordfish and an excellent oyster from the west coast that my girlfriend got. A higher end restaurant with and ocean view. Will definitely be back for a full entree of that beef Bolognese!!! 🔥🔥🔥

Absolutely incredible meal. Monk fish and Halibut. Octopus app, and peach cobbler dessert. Extensive wine list! A must have dinner, 5 star, nothing compares to this from scratch incredible rotating menu!!!

We visited the carriage house for dinner. We had oysters for our appetizer. They were fresh and delicious. I had the hangar steak for dinner, ordered medium rare. The steak was more on the rare side. My wife ordered flounder and it came overcooked. The wait staff took it back to the kitchen and they came to our table to apologize. They brought her a fresh plate of flounder which she said was to die for. For dessert we had a chocolate mousse and it was really really good!

This restaurant is amazing. Great food, atmosphere and service. Don’t hesitate for a second to enjoy the wonderful experience this restaurant offers.

This was a wonderful evening in an upscale coastal country vibe restaurant with truly exceptional food and service! Our server, Amber, was attentive and made great recommendations with a very warm and friendly demeanor. We started our meal with wonderfully prepared cocktails and appetizers of oysters, mushroom toast, and pasta with truffles - all AMAZING! We also had the fried olives which we found unexceptional. Dinner was top notch!!!! Our entrees included, Grilled Swordfish, Halibut and Sea Scallops - all incredibly tasty and beautifully prepared and served! The price seemed reasonable for this caliber of food. We will most definitely return! This is a special spot!

Loved this experience! The ambiance upstairs was perfect and the cocktails were unique and delicious. The food was fantastic and I highly recommend the scallops. A dessert drink finished my night and I would highly recommend this for a date night dinner!

An outstanding dining experience. After reading other reviews, we decided to give it a try. We had a reservation but arrived early. Not a problem. The host greeted us with a friendly smile and sat us at a table next to the window overlooking the ocean. Our waitress made excellent recommendations as well as specials that were not on the menu. The food was outstanding. The service was wonderful. I never write reviews but this is one I could not help. By all means, try this gem of a restaurant.

This was our first visit to the Carriage House. We rated it as one of the top 5 dinners we have ever had. The fish and scallops were cooked to perfection and the sides were just as delicious. Make sure to reserve a table and try one of their excellent specialty cocktails.

Porkchop and all food was fantastic

This place is the most relaxing place to eat! The staff greeted us with a smile and was so happy and nice! Our waitress Heather was an absolute Gem! Checked in on us often and provided extraordinary service! I had the cape cod scallops and the specialty cocktail New Year Same Me which I found out was inspired but the chefs trip to Thailand and everything we tasted down to the presentation was STELLAR! The oysters Rockefeller for our app was just so divine and well put together! They also accommodate dietary restrictions which is posted in their menu! We will be back! We love it there!

We love this place. Very busy for New Years eve. Service was excellent and bar drinks tops. The food is excellent. Make sure to have reservations and parking can be a little tough but off season can park across at beach area.

We have been to the Carriage House 3 times over the past year for special occasions and nights out with friends. The food and service is spectacular. My friend was able to choose from many gluten free options (not listed directly on the menu, but the waitress was very knowledgeable about dietary restrictions). We ordered different items and have been impressed every time!

I went in with high expectations and was pleasantly surprised.

Just love the place. Whether having a drink at the bar, with a good view of the beach, sitting outside at the picnic tables with all the ambience of Rte 1A in the background, or just taking a table inside the place never disappoints. Great food, creative and great drinks. Good service. Pricey, though, but you never come away feeling used and always wanting to go back. Tough to get reservations. Bring back the brick chicken!

What a great time we had at the Carriage House Restaurant! We had a table by the window facing the ocean view, great service and food. Gnocchi with Lobster was flavorful, with pillows of Gnocchi and a reasonable portion of Lobster. My friend had the Flounder wrapped in pastry which was also delicious. The drinks were refreshing and well crafted. Our waitress was knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly.

Ambiance is great- staff even better. Drinks are delicious and food is always exceptional. Whether it's 2 of us or 8 of us- always a great experience. I could eat there 5 nights a week.

Dined at the Carriage House last night and it was phenomenal. Highlights: reservation was timed perfectly, no waiting. Staff was kind, attentive, available, and informative. Really one of the last places to honor proper dining etiquette. Food was the best meal I’ve had in portsmouth. Fresh, local, cooked perfectly. Even down to the cocktail we had! Everything is made in house and you can tell. For the quality of service and food prices are more than reasonable in a chic environment. The Carriage House brings city quality to a small costal town. If you’re visiting this is a MUST STOP.

They double charged my card for my order and won’t give me a refund. Total scam please watch your bank statement after paying, they’re crooks and liars. Act nice but then they steal from you and when you ask for your money back they act dumb

The best cheeseburger I've ever eaten! I don't eat a lot of meat, but when I do, I crave a steak or burger. It was tender, juicy and flavorful. It comes with a mountain of fries. The Carriage House has many more exotic choices on the menu, so you can't go wrong when ordering.The view and atmosphere are fantastic. I highly recommend The Carriage House!

First time since the last owners sold it ! Was with my son and it was a very good experience! Our waitress was fabulous.

Fish choices were quite limited. I know they try to use what is fresh and available, but the ocean is within sight. The food was just disappointing.

Wonderful experience! Drinks and food were delicious. It was a very relaxed and beautiful environment.

Best restaurant meal I have ever had in my life. Mushroom toast appetizer was out of this world, as were the parker rolls. The hangar steak, with the potatoes and currants and greens, was cooked to perfection and so delicious. Even my long island iced tea, usually non-descript at any other restaurant, was a cut above. Our server, Dan, knew everything about everything presented to us, even the very specific type of olives used in the martinis. Another person helped deliver our entrees, but when she put it down in front of me, apparently it wasn't at quite the right angle (meat directly in front) so he rotated the plate about 15 degrees. That's attention to detail! He got a handsome tip. All four of us agreed - maybe the best meal ever. We're currently staying nearby at a rental but will be happy to drive the hour from our home for a special meal. It's not the cheapest place to get dinner, but you will get your money's worth and then some. We will be talking about this meal for years, it was that memorable.

My wife and I had a surprise free night sans kids and booked reservations very late here and were very surprised and pleased with this little gem we stumbled upon.  We live over an hour west of Rye and had not heard of The Carriage House, so we didn't have any frame-of-reference for the restaurant outside their already many glowing reviews.  This gave us confidence to drive the hour for dinner out Being on the seacoast, we assumed they would have a great seafood menu, but were surprised with the diverse sea and land menu options.  We started off with a whitefish pate served on basically this beautiful crispy on the outside, soft and rich on the inside hash-brown.  It's simple and simply delicious. My wife had the Arctic Char (think salmon) served over fresh corn and bok choy coated in a Calabrian chili oil and topped off with grilled peaches.  Her only complaint was there were not enough peaches (she could have probably eaten a gallon of grilled peaches that night). After a week on the cape and eating fish every night, I opted for the hanger steak served over duck fat cooked potatoes and a wild watercress salad coated in a demi-glaze.  The steak was well cooked, the potatoes were crisp and flavorful and the watercress brought a fresh brightness to the plate, but the kicker was the demi-glaze...I could have bathed in it! We closed out the night with a blueberry crostata.  I had no idea what a crostata was, so just think like a little Italian baked tart filled with super fresh, sweet and tart blueberries and this luscious vanilla bean ice cream.  The baking technique was on point and the flavors were very well balanced. We had an excellent evening filled with great food, service and overall ambiance.  The only thing I would change (which they can't) is the road that separates the restaurant from the ocean.  This is in my opinion one of the best if not the best restaurants in the state.  We will be back soon and will come often.

It had been awhile since I’ve eaten here. Not sure why it’s been so long. Wonderful food, drinks and wait staff. We usually only go to one place for oysters, but we’ve added this to the list. Every app and entree we had was wonderful. It’s always a treat when all in the family love their meal.

Outstanding from start to finish. We were pleasantly greeted and brought upstairs to our table with an ocean view. Laura, our server, was very nice, kind, knowledgeable, fun, and eager to please. Great insight and recommendations on the menu. Appetizers, entree's, desserts, and beverages were simply delicious. Aidan complimented our dining experience quite nicely. A pleasant young man, quick to smile, and very attentive. One of our favorite dining establishments before we moved away for 25 years. First time back since we returned to NH. We WIIL certainly be back!!!

Super fantastic! New owners and chef are great and new menu is amazing. April 2022 we celebrated 40th anniversary there. The special appetizer French truffle on pasta and main course arctic char were utterly delicious. Beyond words.

Great place, great food, great ambient, great staff. Love this place. The restaurant is located in a lovely spot: a surf beach in Rye, NH. The servers were all so welcoming and kind. The cooking staff and the chef prepared to us special sharing options like charcuterie. We got some welcoming fine wine glasses. A whole complete experience.

I love trying new restaurants and I finally found one in the Hampton Beach area! This restaurant was so yummy, I got artic char which was simply delicious, my boyfriend got the steak. We were both so happy! Oh, the dessert which was cheesecake was light n fluffy and out of this world… Julie the waitress was very professional and attentive! Definitely going back Soon! Prices were really reasonable for the portion you receive… check it out you’ll be Happy also!!!:))))

The food, service and atmosphere here are amazing for this foodie couple.

Christmas eve dinner. The appetizers were creative and full of flavor. The main course was equally delicious. Wait staff efficient and friendly. Menus were difficult to see. Printing was in a delicate gold beige and a camera flashlight was used to clearly see the offerings. Even with the additional lighting the print looked faded and not easily readable. I found that frustrating, but it did not take away from the masterpieces the chef prepared for us. Yes, we will return.

We absolutely loved our experience here. Such a cozy vibe, the food was totally delicious, the drinks were amazing, and the service was just perfect. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Portsmouth. I wish I lived closer, this would become our regular celebratory spot!!

Gotta go 5 stars. I’ve gotten take out a few times and the chowder and fish and chips are unreal. I’d try other stuff but those two things are too good. I’m sure the rest of the menu follow suit. Shoutout to carriage house!

Warmth, humor, and respect are at the forefront of their personalities. They treat you like royalty AND that's before you even sit down. The food, the cocktails, the wine! Everything they serve is top notch. I have had the pleasure of dining with them countless times and I am never disappointed. Everyone I have ever taken there has had the same reaction. Fresh ingredients, unique combinations, and delicious presentations are what you have to look forward to when dining at the Carriage House. Don't miss this hidden gem at Jenness Beach. Make the trip... you'll LOVE it!

We have been there a few times, went there again last night as a surprise to my new fiancé as a celebration for our engagement. When I booked the reservation I left a note saying that it was a celebration. When we were seated we were congratulated by the maître d’ as well as both of our waiters and had on-the-house glasses of bubbly waiting for us. Had an absolutely amazing meal with fresh truffles from Europe. This is our favorite restaurant in the area and will continue to bring our business and our friends here! Thank you all so much for the wonderful dining experience and our first date as an engaged couple!

I had a brilliant meal at the Carriage House! It's clear that everything brought to my table was created with great care and attention to detail. The only problem was deciding what to get, because everything on their menu sounded amazing. In the end I went with crispy sugar snap peas for the starter, and the haddock entree. Everything was delicious, and the serving size was perfect. Also, my server was friendly, attentive, and helpful. In all, a wonderful experience at a reasonable price. I look forward to returning one day.

Lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff. Parking is a challenge. Crab dip was lacking crab, chips WAY too salty. However, our meals were delicious, presentation lovely, dessert was devine!!

Parking is limited but food and atmosphere enjoyable!

The Carriage House is evidently under new management for about a year. We had to wait awhile to get seated, 7:30 reservation, and we sat outside. We got water fairly quickly, and the waitress eventually got to us. She was wonderful, but perhaps had too many tables to keep up with. We got bread, which was good, and warm, and we wolfed it down. We ordered our beverages and food. Our drinks were finally delivered, and the food came awhile after that. My friend got a special, monk fish, which was delicious. I got the burger with fries, and it was also very good!! Recommended! My sense is that the service will improve as they get more experienced.

Great pork schnitzel and hanger steak. Great Margherita. Great service. Sorry to keep using great...but it was. It is a nice trip up the coast to this Rye NH restuarant. Drive along the coast, watch the surfers and view the ocean front mansions, then stop at the Carriage House for dinner. 40 min from Andover.

We had dinner here tonight and it was truly outstanding. Appetizers were so good we ordered two and the entrees were over-the-top delicious. The service was friendly and professional. The owner and staff go above and beyond to create a safe environment during this challenging Covid period. Highly recommend A+ If there were 6 stars we'd give it.

Wow, great service, amazing food, made reservation and good thing, because they were booked solid. Next time we are in Hampton, we'll be going back.
