We have been long time patrons of Coals since it opened and have supported them in even the most difficult of times. Lately, the atmosphere has become a kid circus and the volume level is through the roof. I can tell the servers and staff have grown weary of the evolving Chuck E. Cheese environment as have we and many other familiar and long time customers. No, I don’t know what to do about it other than to slowly withdrawal our patronage…. Had the worst service of any restaurant. When the manager came out and we spoke to him regarding the service he never followed up or could have cared . Food was good but very disappointed in service or the manager. Hope the owner reads this review.

I went here for the first time today and ordered a pizza, the first thing that happened was someone at the bar telling me that this was the best pizza in town, they started going on and on about how amazing they all are and damn where they right this is some amazing pizza I got the old Louisville pizza and I would recommend it it's not overly greasy and won't make you sick like most chains pizza would it taste great and all the toppings just blend together perfectly!

We had a great experience the food was amazing and service was great. They have outside seating also available.

Indoor and Outdoor seating. Several pizza selections. We had the mushroom appetizer, very good - enough to share with four. Love the Highland pizza served with the white sauce. We arrived a little before 6pm on a Sunday. No wait. Indoor seats max 52, the restaurant is quaint, could be considered romantic but children are welcomed!

Ordered two pizzas: the Old Louisville and the Bardstown. Hard to say which one was my favorite. Both super delicious 20/10

Nice little place with extra patio seating, excellent food, ingredients are top notch, the stuffed mushrooms are superb. Service is great as well. The crusts are very thin and the coal oven does seem to burn the bottom a little which I know a lot of people like. We will definitely return and recommend.

Some of the best pizza I've eaten came from Coals. The ambience is as good as the food! Their prices are in line with what you get and they have a good selection of beers, cocktails, wines, and sodas. We'll definitely recommend and return to Coals. Great food!

My tip was increased after I left with my carry out order. Not cool! The first manager was very apologetic and tried to make things right. The main manager was dismissive of the credit card issue and reneged on the first manager's offer. They did refund the overcharge after 3 calls. We will not be back! Check your charges later to be sure the tip has not been changed.

Good golly, this is delicious pizza! It is rare to find a place that satisfies all of my family, but this restaurant does. The best pizza I’ve ever had was in Florence (Firenze), Italy twenty years ago, and this pizza I had last night was just as good! I will be back! The restaurant itself is super cute, but seating is TIGHT. That’s why I have it a 4/5 on atmosphere. It’s uncomfortable to have to weave around other people enjoying their pizza. Finally, we had a very nice waitress who did a great job. However, the guys bringing our pizza weren’t super friendly and when I asked for more napkins since we had to use all of ours on a spilled drink, he brought two napkins for five people. I had to chase down someone to get more napkins, and no one ever helped us with cleaning up the mess. All in all, it wasn’t terrible service, but something to think about. All in all, it’s a great restaurant, and we will definitely return.

This is the best pizza in the city of Louisville and it seriously isn’t close. I eat pizza almost every day and have been to just about everywhere and Coals has me coming back over and over because of their consistency and quality which is nothing but award winning, do yourself a favor and plan a night out here with a date or group of friends

I like the brownsboro it's just good with me, fire burnt crust with a lot of juicy pizza sauce perfect crust & just a great pizza.

Great pizza. The crust is crispy but not crunchy and yet still soft. I got the butchertown which has all the meat. Excellent choice for meat lovers. My wife got the Iroquois and I almost preferred that to mine. It was so good. The crispy onions on that one were a nice touch.

Coals Artisan Pizza has been the “go to” pizza restaurant and take out place for years. It made it through COVID with a robust take out business and outdoor dining scene in St Matthews. It’s not regular take out pizza price wise but the quality and taste is worth the extra expense. Just had a birthday party with Coals Pizza and it was a big hit!

I am surprised that it was quite busy at 5 pm for early dinner. But the whole thing was not too bad. I was dining alone so it is hard to get the bar available since there is couples at the bar. So i kind of feel bad because I was one person at 4 people table. But I wasn't there too long for my pizza and beer. The pizza was good. Next time, I will order takeout instead of stay there.

Excellent pizza. Our waiter Justin was awesome, friendly, knowledgeable about the food and attentive without being annoying. We split a salad which was served on two plates rather than one bowl which was helpful. We had the meatballs which were very tasty. We had a sausage and pepperoni pizza to share and took some back to the hotel (I ate it cold the next day and it was still really good)

Enjoyed a great little birthday dinner at Kohl’s this week! The atmosphere was cozy and fun. The service was quick and efficient. The food was absolutely amazing! Despite seeing lots of five stars reviews, the taste of the pizza I ordered was okay, but whatever cheese used on my "Crescent Hill" wasn't melted - I found that unusual for a pizza, and not to my liking. The crust and taste seems a little different from more traditional pizza, and that's fine, as it makes for a different pizza experience. But I just didn't like the experience or taste of unmelted cheese on my pizza. Frankly, I don't know if the unmelted cheese is normal on the "Crescent Hill". And I regret I forgot to take a picture before I ate it. I just know when I was finished I didn't feel any passion or interest in returning. I truly hope your experience and the pizza you select will be delicious and encourage you to visit again because I always want to see businesses do well. That's why I am giving them four and not three stars. But as for the taste of that pizza, I have no interest in eating it again. They had brewed tea unsweetened but no sweet brewed tea. My server said the Middletown store serves sweetened brewed tea so she was a little confused why the St Matthews store didn't offer sweetened brewed tea. I ordered a Coke and it was tasty for a coke with the right mix of coke syrup and carbonated water. I had a friend that worked here years ago so I brought my wife because I loved the place. The food itself is amazing - as always. The level of professionalism of the staff leaves a lot be desired.
