Bartender (forget his name but believe it was Sean or Luke) kicked a large group of 20-30 people out for being '"too loud" on a Saturday night. Last time I checked its a bar so not sure what the issue was. They cost themselves a very lucrative bill, tip and lifelong customers. We will NEVER go back and will inform others not too as well.

Cool outdoor vibe. Drinks and beer selection are really good!!! The food was ok. Definitely would come back to hang.

Had a great time here after the Montclair Hash run in August 2024. Great beers (particularly enjoyed the keg stand) and amazing pizza (loved the Tim Howard), beautiful outdoor seating and a great ambience all in all. Would love to come back for a proper meal here!

Had the arugula orzo salad, which is a pretty decent combination of items. The dried cherries are a nice touch. Unfortunately, there were just enormous globs of goat cheese on it. I like goat cheese, but they should have broken ot up more and distributed it better. It was also so lightly dressed that I couldn't taste the dressing. All the goat cheese mixed in became the dressing. Finally, I added blackened chicken. Listen, if you call something blackened chicken, and it's literally just unseasoned chunks of grilled chicken breast, I.E. the blandest cut and preparation possible for chicken, maybe just call that grilled chicken. Even then, maybe a little salt could help out.

My favorite place in the Montclair area. The food is always well prepared, the service is attentive & the crowd is the jam. So glad this place still excels where so many have failed post covid. Thanks for so many memorable nights.

We’ve been to Egan & Sons multiple times, but I only just started reviewing places on here. It’s often very crowded on weekends if you’re there late for drinks and after-dinner snacks. Service is sometimes slow. Food is good pub food. Drinks are fair, sometimes watered-down! Not a bad place to hang out for a while.

We came on a Tuesday evening without a reservation (group of 7) - the restaurant was very busy but luckily they had a table for us, so be sure to make a reservation, especially on the weekends. The food was very good and I recommend the oysters and mussels for the appetisers. Excellent service too.

Everything was absolutely amazing. Every single thing. The first time we came. This place is gorgeous. Inside is modernly vintage, and somehow you just know you’re going to have a good meal here. The inside and outdoor eating areas are a great atmosphere and a perfect setting for meals of any sort- date, family, business meetings. Outdoor in the summer is definitely where you want to be. Right in the parking lot they have seats under umbrellas and roofs. Seats on the back porch too. They have an RV with frozen drinks and menu cocktails that you pay separately for at the van. Not worth it and just order with your server unless you’re only here for drinks. Which is perfect for with the setting as well. Also, fairly priced as a whole. The cocktails are made so well. Fresh and delicious - not over poured (unlike the RV). We wish they had more cocktail varieties. Our server, Dakota, was awesome. We were his only table during our stay and he made sure to keep attentive and personable. Dakota really heightened our experience and is the type of server you remember by name for next time. A job well done. The food was mouth watering and left us yearning for more. We ordered the shrimp tacos to start and one taco for two is a perfect appetizer. Refreshing on a hot day. The chunks of avocado in the salsa was a surprise and perhaps wasn’t needed on top of an already extremely filled taco. Nonetheless, yummy! We ordered the Moules Frites and Fish and Chips. The Mussels were stacked over the broth which made it hard to get that flavor. And to make things even more difficult they topped the dish with fries. I needed an extra plate to move the fries over to thoroughly enjoy the dish in its entirety. So much flavor in the broth and the mussels were huge! The bread on the side was fresh and perfectly toasted and delicious dipped in the broth. The fish and chips were crispy and light and a well done steak fry. Dessert was the blueberry cheesecake and we were struggling to finish yet attempting to manage finishing every single bite on a stuffed stomach. The whip cream was homemade and freshly whipped. I do NOT like whipped cream and yet I had to include it in every bite here. Absolutely astonishing. The graham cracker crust was a bit too thick but added a great balance in between the thick cheese and rich blueberries. Definitely make some time for a night out at Egan and Sons. We went on a weeknight and still had such a wonderful time. Amazing food, and a delightful time! We came a second time to celebrate my birthday on a Monday night. It was extremely crowded and we had to wait. They originally told us 45 min but it took 15 min to wait. Our server was forgetful and hard to find. The boy running food and bussing seemed to be high on something because of the way he was acting. It took 5 times to tell him where to place someone’s food and kept taking the fries on and off the plate. Weird. Everyone thought the food was just okay this time around and wasn’t blown away. The pizza wasn’t that good yet we saw it on everyone’s table. The rice bowl with salmon is delicious but expensive to add any protein.

Lunch for 12 people went beautifully! Reservations for 6 or more are highly recommended.

Got cucked here. Fries were piping hot, nearly tore a hole through my supple lips. But the taste was there, food kinda rocked. What was that servers problem? Does she hate the customers? Does she just hate me and my friends? TELL ME!!! TELL ME!!! Teehee anyway, Daddy’s score? 4/10

My family and I come here OFTEN. This outdoor atmosphere is top notch. Also welcoming to children (I have 2 toddlers and a teen) and pets (I don't have). The food is always a hit. The service is really good. On average my family and I have been coming here at least 1-2 times a month for a year now, never bad food or bad service. This is our spot!

The spinach had to be returned and made again because it was to oily, but good the second time. The desserts were delicious. Fun Irish pub! Great for hanging out and watching games while grabbing a drink and bite to eat. Celebrating St. Pattys Day here is always fun as well. I like the outdoor area when the weather is nice. The food is good. I've enjoyed several different items including the cottage pie, variety of bar pies, burgers, and fries. Overall a nice chill atmosphere!

My girlfriend and I had lunch here and the food was delicious. We ordered a few drink specials that were over-priced and not very good but overall we were happy with our meal.

A great Irish pub that hasn't lost its roots. I've been going here for 20 or more years. Egan's has evolved their menu but it's still legit and great, whether you want a pint and a cottage pie or a cocktail and a vegan meal. A solid falafel burger, great bacon toasties and miso cauliflower bites. They fed a big table of vegans and carnivores and kept us from getting hungry or thirsty on a busy Saturday. Good craft beer selection without requiring a hundred taps, they had more than just IPAs like a lot of joints do these days. And even their "house" beers were really good.

I haven't been to Egan's in years. I was pleasantly surprised that nithubghas changed. The food and service were great. Christian, our server, was attentive yet no overbearing. My chicken sandwich was delicious. I didn't even need the fries. So good. A Great Experience.

So excited I discovered this restaurant in Walnut St!!! Atmosphere very nice, seating in and outdoor. Staff were very nice and friendly. Our waiter Sarah was very attentive and the Host Lea was courteous and sweet. My girlfriends and I had a nice time. We decided to just order a bunch of appetizers and of course a bottle of white wine. PARKING on the street. Drive on side streets and read signs. You will be ok to park on the street

Food is delicious and that drinks were excellent.

I so wanted to like this place. The atmosphere was almost perfect. Now to the food. The fried calamari was okay. The sauce that came with it made it very good. I ordered the blackened chicken sandwich. Sorry to say but I never ate a piece of meat that was so dry and tasteless. My girlfriend ordered the vegetable sandwich and said the tomato chutney was good but everything else about the sandwich was lacking. We ordered a few drinks and once we finished the waitress was no where to be found. We spent a hour and 20 min there and she visited the table once to bring me a soda and again to bring me my check after I asked her for it. So the service was not that good either. The food quality did not taste like fresh ingredients at all. Hate to leave a review like this but maybe management will look into the issues and correct them so hard earned money will not be wasted on sub par food.

I love Egans! I have always experienced wonderful service and delicious food and drinks. I will always recommend Egans to a friend!

As a party of 6, me and my boyfriend’s family were told there would be a 45 minute wait. Once we arrived we put our names as waited. One of our family members went up to the host men in a red flannel dirty blonde hair. He was incredibly rude when asked how much longer. Not only did he give attitude but he questioned our abilities to wait treating us like children. We waited about an hour and they started calling parties of 4 and 6 that were way ahead of us. Out of spite these host were doing that on purpose. At an hour at 15 now we heard the words, “Kait is next” we then continues to wait another 10 minutes of people getting let in. Not only to get at us but greatly offend us. The man at the front needs to be fired as immature as he acted all we wanted was some answers. It ended up resulting in us leaving and never coming back due to amount of disrespect we got. And seeing multiple parties of 6 leaving and never being seated after we were told we were next. Disappointing because we were all looking forward to a nice dinner at Egans.

Our waitress was wonderful! Drink selection and food was delicious. They have a parking lot which is a bonus . Would definitely go back! Salmon bowl, double cheeseburger, truffle fries and tater tots are all worth ordering.

Egan & Sons was an impulse decision yesterday. I had an early dismissal from work due to the New Year's weekend, so I didn't get to explore a new NYC spot for lunch. On the way home on the train, I texted my recently sick top-tier Montclair chum who's been cooped up inside for most of the holidays, and boom - instant plans, instant meal. I hopped off at Walnut Street and wandered down the street. Who says NJ Transit isn't convenient? I came here once years ago and was a little thrown when I walked in from Walnut; I had no idea the official entrance was actually in the back, which features a personal parking lot. (My chum used it and it was one of the most chaotic situations I've ever seen, with several valet-esque spots and a lot of drivers looking agitated and confused. Everyone got through it in one piece from what I could tell, but that is a fender bender waiting to happen.) As a result, I had to awkwardly walk all the way through the restaurant to get to the host in the back, who then...walked me back close to the door I came in at. There was enough signage for me to figure out what to do, but the logistics could and should definitely be tinkered with - I'm sure they get tons of foot traffic like me. It was pretty crowded for mid-afternoon, but I'm sure the holidays threw off a lot of peoples' eating schedules, including my own. I secured a high-top near the bar, and was promptly attended to by the waitress, who took my drink order while I waited for my chum. The obvious cocktail choice was the Maple Old Fashioned ($15) from their specials menu. It took a little long to show up, but was definitely decent for what it was. Because it relied quite a bit on a type of maple syrup, it was sweeter than I would have preferred (I think it's easy to forget that bourbon itself is one of the sweeter spirits so if you're going to double down on that you have to be careful). They could have emphasized the maple through some type of garnish or flavored rim, which would have had the flavor without being overpowering. Since I was eating almost two hours later than I normally would (see above reference to holiday schedule), I was pretty famished. We split the Truffle Mac & Cheese app ($16ish), and I got a plain hamburger medium-rare ($12ish). The Mac & Cheese was divisive at our table. My chum didn't like it at all because of the inclusion of the chives. I also wasn't a fan (they're completely unnecessary based on the flavor, etc.), but they were also easy to pick out if it was a problem. Beyond that though, I thought it was excellent and was perfectly happy to gobble down the lion's share. The burger was the highlight for me. The cattle was slightly undercooked (definitely rare), but I actually prefer rare and just play it safe when I'm ordering them from a place I'm not too familiar with so I don't end up with something mooing on my plate. My favorite bovine in the area is the Cloverleaf, and I'll happily order rare from them without thinking. It was juicy without being greasy, and the bun had a nice density to it - not too thick though and easy to munch. The service was good. It wasn't a situation where we were on the clock (again, holiday schedules), so even if it was on the slower side it wasn't an issue at all. Our waitress was pleasant and stopped by throughout the meal consistently, even though I think she had quite a few tables to navigate. And the price point was definitely reasonable for the area, maybe even on the cheaper side honestly. I don't hit the bovine as often as I used to, but this was one of the better ones in recent memory.

This is my go-to whenever I have any friends and family in town. The cozy but dressy environment is a good in-between or casual and "fancy" Great atmosphere and great food and drink.

Stopped in for the first time this week for happy hour. They have a decent amount of items to choose from-both drinks and food. We ordered the oysters ($1.50/each)-they were decent, Thai chili wings were outstanding, we enjoyed the fried pickles and the cheese pizza was okay. We will definitely be back for the wings! They have their own beers-we enjoyed their lager. Parking is available on the side street and meters in front. Big area to meet with a group and plenty of bar space.

It was really quick to get out the food the food was delicious and they sat me really quick and they had enough room not for me and my family I have four kids and a husband so in total let’s six people they had enough for the six people so that’s why I rated Egans 5 stars

Some of their dishes are quite good others seem unusual and disappointing to put it mildly. Comes across a little stingy that their burgers don’t include fries and their junk credit card fees are not appreciated. Hard to recommend.

It’s wonderful to be able to eat outside at the end of October! They were a little busy. I think the dry wings were not dry. They were slimy. Air fryer would fix that. The Chicken pot pie, Shrimp and Fish tacos, Hamburger and Cobb Salad was great!

This is my friend's go-to spot in Montclair. I was impressed with the vibe and decorations - cozy and rustic. The only sad thing here was we were ignored at the beginning as our waitress was busy with other tables and didn't come to ours at all. Probably she was new and too nervous to pay attention to my glass of water. However, she made it up for being informative and helpful to adjust my dish. I was delighted that my food came out pretty well as per my request.

Unexpectedly nicer than what I was anticipating. Looks like a bar from the outside but so much more. Had the grilled shrimp and scallops and they were fantastic. Beerwise, at least they had Stella. Been here many times since the above and keep going back for the grilled shrimp and scallops and loving it. Tonight, I had the Crab cake and truffle fries. Overall, a decent meal but the crab cake was overrun with red and green peppers. Now I keep burping and all I can taste is peppers. Was hoping for an Oktoberfest beer, all they had was Sam Adams.
