I had the fish tacos- they were very good but slightly bland and there was no salt to be found. I asked for corn tortillas and got flour Chips and salsa is very bland and nothing to write home about. Owner was arrogant and bit rude to us, and not helpful.

Had the carne asada, pork burritoes, and mexican slaw. BLAND! No flavor. Even the chips and salsa were bland. I took the slaw home and added lime juice, salt, and a pinch of sugar; Perfect! The 1 thing I did love was the pickled onion; great flavor!

Such a neat little spot! We got the carnitas tacos, spicy lobster tacos, and a chipotle chicken quesadilla. The homemade tortillas had great flavor. The lobster wasn't spicy but definitely flavorful and perfectly cooked. I wouldn't say any of the salsas had a lot of heat but everything we had was flavorful and well-seasoned. The passion fruit mint aqua fresca was also delicious. Definitely a must try if you're in the area!

We came with a large party and a few of us ordered their signature 3 taco Spicy Lobster but were underwhelmed. The quantity of lobster meat was very small and it lacked any special taste. I was told later that there was self serve salsa you could put on it which seemed to defeat the purpose of a special. Other dishes were said to be “OK” and the outdoor casual atmosphere was nice.

I would drive 6 hours for this place, and have :) It’s always our favorite because you truly can’t go wrong! From the incredible spicy lobster tacos (not that spicy) to the surf and turf or steak quesadilla. The fresh salsa bar with an insane assortment of different hot sauces—omg the guacamole!!! Everything hits the spot. You get large portions of lobster and steak popping out of whatever you get, just like in their branding. HA! The attention to details is impressive. Now the food would be enough to have me coming back for more, but the atmosphere and people are top notch too. The vibe that the family has as they serve you is like you’re over at a best friend’s house for dinner. So kind and generous. You can FEEL that they love it, and that energy is magnetic and contagious. Sitting in the back yard at picnic tables you’re far enough from the road to feel like you have your own little sanctuary, surrounded by woods. You can see the tree house they’ve built and they have a sand box areas for kiddos. Then the option to make more of an event out of your dining experience and bop next door to the Makers Market is such a lovely way to see/support local artist. They have really inexpensive wines, crackers/charcuterie stuff, darling cards, painting materials and more. We were with a group of friends, about 8 gals and guys and everyone walked out buying a few things because they had so many unique gifts and fun mementos. I think summer is my favorite season because it means I can have El El Frijoles! Truly an ode to what a restaurant should be.

I cannot believe I didn’t immediately review this place when I went. We went with a good sized group (6?) and the folks running the show were helpful and funny as we made our order. Food was fresh and delicious, a little adventurous, and I felt good during (and after) eating. Enormous fan. Please go give them your money.

Great food & a local favorite! Our family has been eating here for years, never a bad meal. Go early, on busy summer days they sometimes close early because a kitchen can only make so much food (a testament to just how good it is.) *Their frozen burritos are a favorite bring to work option for the hubby too.*

Tucked away in Sedgwick, Maine, El El Frijoles isn't your typical Mexican restaurant. This converted barn offers a unique and delightful open-air dining experience, perfect for a summer evening. Owned by a husband-and-wife team, the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, reflecting the warmth you'd expect from a family-run establishment. The menu is concise but delivers big on flavor. Start with a refreshing glass of horchata, a creamy rice-based drink with a hint of cinnamon. It's the perfect way to cool down on a hot day and complements the savory dishes beautifully. When it comes to tacos, you can't go wrong with the carnitas. The melt-in-your-mouth pork is slow-cooked to perfection, boasting a crispy exterior and a juicy, flavorful interior. The tortillas are fresh and soft, providing the ideal vessel for the delicious filling. Don't forget to load up on the fresh toppings – the vibrant pico de gallo adds a delightful crunch, while the creamy avocado adds a touch of richness. Every bite at El El Frijoles feels like a taste of sunshine. The combination of fresh ingredients, friendly service from the owners, and the charming outdoor setting creates a memorable dining experience. Whether you're a local or just passing through, El El Frijoles is a hidden gem worth seeking out. Just keep in mind that their hours are seasonal, so be sure to check their social media pages before heading out. With its focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients and welcoming atmosphere, El El Frijoles is sure to become a favorite for anyone seeking a taste of authentic Mexican cuisine in Maine.

We didn’t actually get to experience the El El Frijoles restaurant but we picked up some frozen burritos and the some chocolate butter spread from their sister store, Maker’s Mark. They were delicious! They come in 4 packs and the different options include: steak, chicken, bean and cheese, and I believe vegetarian. They range from $34-$49 and they reheat perfectly. I definitely recommend! I would’ve enjoyed maybe a variety pack with 2 steak and 2 chicken options and maybe a chorizo option! But that’s only if the owners are taking requests 😂😋

As other reviewers mentioned, the food is bland. I wanted to like it. It was fresh, nicely prepared and big portions. But it had no flavor. I eat authentic Mexican food frequently. There is an Oaxacan family restaurant in my home town and that is what I was craving, so this was very disappointing. I drove out my way to try it. I think they are trying to appeal to children's palettes. The atmosphere was more of playground vibe & travel stop for families. The place was clean and the owners were nice.

This is definitely one of the more unique taquerias I've been to. I had the spicy lobster tacos and crab quesadilla, which were really cool and unique. This place checks nearly all the boxes. Friendly and passionate staff, super fresh ingredients, charming outdoor seating situation, family-friendly, etc, etc. But the food (while visually appealing and made with excellent ingredients) is so devoid of flavor as to make one wonder if the spice cabinet here is just a rarely used shaker of salt and 1oz jar of cumin meant to last a month. It seems obvious that the owners are really passionate about Mexican food, and bringing people a fresh Cali-mex experience. But there is a seasoning phobia in the kitchen that just derails everything. Mexican food should BURST with aggressive flavor—not demand most of a hot sauce bottle to make palatable. The problem here is fixable. But maybe it’s just a New England thing? The region isn’t known for its adventurous application of spices, so this may simply be what one expects. 🤷‍♂️

No matter that we live 30 miles away, we took a drive and showed up around 5:30 on a Friday night. Still dealing with COVID so we ordered from the deck. It took no time at all for 3 burritos and a bag of chips with salsa. We tried the carnitas, the carne asada, and the rajas y papas burritos...VERY TASTY! Good sized, plenty of fillings, meat flavored well. The salsa selection was good though next time I'll get more of the spicy, smoky one. Which means yes...there will definitely be a next time. Highly recommend this place and can't wait to come after the COVID stuff is over to try more items.
