Somewhat expensive but a good place for lunch, dinner.

The food itself isn’t why a person should stop here. It’s fairly average, but the drinks are good.

It’s definitely not authentic Mexican. It’s the American version of Mexican food. Tried their Taco platter - except for their steak taco everything else tasted okay’sh. V. Disappointed with the mahi-mahi taco. Simply fried fish finger, would have been nice if the management decides to use fresh fish instead. The tuna ceviche was too expensive for the portion size. Ambience is all fine, margaritas can improve.

I will start off by saying the host was acting funny about where we wanted to sit. Outrageous the place wasn't really crowded. So the booth that we sat at, they couldn't really clean the floor because how tight it is. The chair cannot be cleaned off at all, so it had old stains on it from previous. The place should have been a lot more cleaner. All of the waiters couldn't stop scratching their hair. My waiter took 10 minutes to bring me water. The food was good however but the place is a no no no. I can only imagine how the kitchen looked.

Guac was over priced but the taco sampler I got was amazing.

The hotel where we were staying recommended us this restaurant and we were very glad we followed their recommendation… Delicious Mexican food. Amazing atmosphere… And the cocktails were also really really good!

I had the worse experience I’ve ever had at El Vez! I won’t be back I’m sorry. I go here every week after work it was one of my favorite spots. But the staff and customer service has gone down tremendously!!! DO NOT COME HERE. The staff did not greet me at the door. They didn’t ask do I wanna be apart of the waiting list after 20 mins of waiting but seated so many individuals without reservation right away. When I ask was there a wait after just sitting there with nobody speaking to me at all. The hostess looked at the other hostess and made a nasty face. I usually tell all my friends to come here but never again. It’s so much more that happen but I won’t right this is in the review.

Best Mexican food in Philly! Great drinks, tons of appetizer choices, beautiful and fun decor - basically, the perfect place to go out for dinner and drinks with your friends. Definitely try the guacamole and anything with the mole sauce! Service is also excellent with very knowledgeable and helpful staff.

Arrived 25 mins early for my reservation. The server said we are sitting people on time. Okay, fine! She also said we can sit at the bar while we wait. So we sat at the bar for a few mins. Then we got up from the bar and waited at the door. There were many people coming in for reservations, and they were seated immediately. However, I don't know their reservation times, but I do know that the times are in 15-minute intervals. So if it is 1010, the people coming in are either early or late, and they did not sit us. Not until 1016, one minute after my reservation, I went back to the desk, and they said, "How can I help you?" Like really! We were visible that whole time. They looked me in the face on numerous occasions. And... we still had menus in our hands. Smh

Normally I'd write more but we just stopped in for a quick plate at lunch. The hostess was pleasant and sat us quickly and the waitress came by immediately, greeted us and asked about water. Then a quick run down of what was on the menu and some suggestions and we ordered the mama nachos. They were perfect for us. A single layer cooked on a round flat pan made them easy to eat and there were no naked chips buried in a mounded up pile of chips you get some places. Just the right mix of cheese, pickled onions etc and jalapeños. Emily was attentive, pleasant and professional. It was nice to see good staff working.

My new favorite place in Philly. Service was excellent. Food and drinks were amazing. And the ambiance was so good. Perfect place for a date night. The vibes are there. Definitely recommend 10/10.

Definitely a cool restaurant. I enjoyed the ambiance although a bit loud. The steak tacos were delicious but not $17 worth. The salsa and chips were decent but my favorite was the green salsa. So yummy. The churros were great. This restaurant was on the expensive side but good to try at least once.

try to walk in at 11:05 exactly and there were someone sitting in a store at the door saying they’re closed but they close at midnight I work for a restaurant you take your guess until closing time very unprofessional and highly upset

Great place- cool vibe, funky decor, good drinks. Only issue was that the tables were so small and it was quite difficult to place our drinks and food while we were eating. We had to continue to ask the servers to clean our table because there was just no room for anything else.

The crispy mahi mahi tacos with a squeeze of lime is EXACTLY what I was hoping for with the flavor explosion and multiple layers of deliciousness. Highly recommend - love the fun, lively vibe of El Vez for solo, couples or group dining!

The food is very good, the tacos are delicious and the nachos are very big!! I really liked the atmosphere of the place, it is for a dinner with a couple or friends! Mexican food is a bit overpriced but the atmosphere is worth it.

While the place looks very inviting, their food lacks character. My wife even mentioned this may be another normal “Mexican” restaurant even before we got our food, sadly she was right. Food is very mediocre; tasteless and not authentic. I’ve should’ve known when the red snapper meal came with green rice and peas. What is even that? My wife order the shrimp tacos and we had to send it back because the shrimp was cold… sadly as I’m typing this I’m also glancing across the street at Prunella and reminiscing over their amazing pizza. Should’ve gone there again. Cocktails are decent though.

Great place to take your friends for brunch if you have the money. A bit pricy but worth it. Chicken burrito was great and they're very easygoing about replacements.

The food was super tasty, but spicy :) the service was also great! I deducted a star from the ambience because we weren't 100% satisfied with certain points. But that shouldn't stop anyone from eating there. It's really super delicious!

Nice atmosphere. Queso with meat came out not as expected and mgr apologized and refunded the price. Great customer service!

We went to celebrate my daughter and the waitress was amazing. We sat outside and had a few cocktails, the pink guava is a must. The food was good, the service was amazing. We told our waitress get your manager we want to tell them how great you are. She knows who she is… and you will know her from her beautiful smile and great personality.

Everything was good except I had the black cod tacos and there was onions and cilantro on them which wasn't listed in the description so I had to try to pick them off.

Make sure to check your receipt!!!! We were overcharged and when I brought it to the servers attention, she corrected it but when she ran the card it was a different amount then she corrected. We overpaid because I got tired of the back and forth with getting 3 separate inaccurate billing amounts.

This was our first time here and it was our anniversary. We have been wanting to go here for a while now because so many people were telling us how amazing it is. We had Owen as our server and I cannot say enough how amazing he made our special day. He is a phenomenal server, friendly and attentive. He made every effort to make sure we had a great first experience. Let me also say that it was the best mole sauce we ever had for the enchiladas. The food is some of the best Mexican fare we have had. I cannot thank Owen and El Vez enough. We will definitely be back!

SERVER WAS TERRIBLE! I forgot to take a picture of our bill so I could identify her but she was awful!!! There were black bits floating in my water (TWICE) and so I just asked for a bottled water because I was disgusted and she blamed it on something falling in the pitcher and charged me for it. I've been in the industry nearly 12 years - nothing randomly dropped in there, pitcher was dirty or the faucet/nozzle they get the water from was dirty. She rushed us to order. She didn't listen when I tried to tell her about my nut allergy (NUTS CAME TO THE TABLE). I could've actually died if my friends didn't notice! She rarely checked on us, she was just in a rush to leave. She forgot to order things for us. We ordered drinks and hated them but never got to tell her before she rushed the check to us we were charged for drinks we did not even drink. I just wanted to fix it not even get a new drink or refund. Literally the worst server I've ever had and I wouldn't want her in any place I eat or have worked in..... just awful. Still tipped 20% BUT SHE DESERVED ALMOST NOTHING!!! And this is coming from someone who works in the same field. All 6 of us are never coming back. Maybe for Uber Eats but never directly - ruined the experience. Guac was great.

I'm giving the food 1 star because of how great the waitress was and the steak Nacho appetizer was at least edible because my side order of brussel sprouts were so tough and undercooked, which was asham because they were seasoned excellent (Cook.....slow cook them until tender)...the few bits i attempted i was in fear of cracking a tooth.....Oh and the photo booth was down as well....what a bummer??????

El Vez is our favorite upscale Mexican food spot in town. The decor and atmosphere cannot be beat, but neither can the food and drinks! We love every single type of guacamole they serve, if you have a big group, get the sampler! Margaritas are always excellent, they have many varieties. The staff are always kind. El Vez has been very busy nearly every time I’ve been there, best to get a reservation if you can.

Really loved it! The corn empanadas are a must with the sauce. One of the best empanadas I've had. They put a candle on my tres leches for my birthday :)

Ordered as takeout via Doordash and it was great! Food was still hot and packed well. I highly recommend the chili corn on the cob, refried beans, and the steak tacos al carbon.

I was so happy to return to El Vez. The food and drinks are always so good. However, The server didn’t seem happy to have only one person at a four person table but there wasn’t much space at the bar. I waited a while before I could order and to get water refills. The taco platter, guacamole, and drink were great so I will come back for the food and say the server was probably having a bad day.

Ordered takeout. I was in town for work and realized when I got back to the hotel they didn’t include any silverware or napkins. Ridiculous. My tip should be refunded. Guac and nachos were good but my bean burrito entree was disappointing. No “to go” cocktails.

The food at El Vez is tasty. This is a good place for a lunch out, with comfortable seating and a fun atmosphere. It can get a little loud, so it isn't great for business lunches or first dates. But try the guac, if you go!

Food for a modern Americana take of Mexican food...it was one of the much much better ones. Came here for a birthday celebration, and the staff was super nice and professional. Birthday celebrations here definitely prove this is no kids' birthday location. Food is a bit overpriced, but for a downtown Major city wise, it was a bit worth it. Their carnitas tacos was on point, with a nice balance of fat and meat...juicy and tender chew. I wished they had an al pastor pork, or maybe I should have tried their pastor cauliflower. Drinks: nice and strong and nice long lists of tequilas and pitcher drinks ($50-$60)

El Vez is such a staple!!! Everything is good and worth the price. Some things can serve more than one person, so its great to share different tacos/fajitas etc. (I usually order the mushroom fajitas I think, and it is so much food for one person, I always take some to go). I love their elotes (grilled street corn) so tasty. Drinks at happy hour are yummy and made well. Staff is always engaging and accommodating. Food typically comes out fast and the ambiance is always fun. I have gone with friends and ordered on Uber Eats. Just love this restaurant. Great vegan/vegetarian options as well. The guacamole is a lil expensive but good and worth it if you have a group of folks or if you just love guacamole!

Came during SIPS and while the atmosphere and service was great, the food was very mediocre. We got chips and guac, the chips were so hard and the guac had no flavor. We doctored it up with some salt and pepper, but it was still bland. The birria tacos were alright, I’ve had much better.

Philly isn’t known for its Mexican food, so don’t get your hopes up, and don’t order the carne asada. Good spot for a drink and an app (they have five types of guac that you can order)!

I had my birthday celebrations on Saturday, June 8th. Went to El Vez at last minute because Sam Pan doesn’t allow tables of more than 5 people for happy hour. Stupid, but whatever. Anyway, not my first time at El Vez but we showed up with 8 people on a Saturday at 5pm. They seated us within 10 minutes. Our server, I forget his name unfortunately, was amazing. He was very attentive and really great with the recommendations. The best part of the whole experience was the guy who brought out the churros with a candle and said “happy birthday dawg”. Nothing I appreciate more than a staff that’s so laid back and professional at the same time. 10/10 would go back. Especially for the sweet corn and poblano empanadas. Thank you for another great experience!!

El Vez is incredibly flavorful, delicious and filling. I had the birria tacos which were perfect. Also tried the crispy Mahi Mahi and the chicken tacos, also amazing. The nachos original Vez guac was very refreshing. Staff is super friendly. It's one of the better Mexican places in Philly. 10/10

Excellent choice for dinner with my work group! Amy, our server was wonderful and recommended good menu choices. Our table got the chicken nachos and mushroom queso for dinner and each dish was soooo tasty! Skinny margarita and regular El Vez margaritas were great! This place is near City Hall and easy to walk to from a lot of places.

I have visited this place multiple times over the span of 6 years, at least once every year. I find it to be a great spot for a quick bite or even a bigger meal; the food is actually pretty good. I usually go here with my partner, and we always receive quick and efficient service. It was no different this week when I went with a group of my friends. The food was good. I ordered a variety of appetizers, and the drinks were also strong and great. However, I did find it a bit off-putting when the waiter seemed annoyed or didn't understand why we only ordered drinks and appetizers. She kept asking if we wanted anything else over and over again after we said no thank you multiple times. I'm not sure if that was just her personality or if she wanted us to buy more items. Overall, the experience wasn't bad at all. I will say, if you're not used to this place, beware that it's usually pretty loud in there, but it's not so loud that you aren't able to have a conversation with the people around you. I will be back because it has not disappointed me yet.

This chain restaurant has quality food and drinks but is overpriced for the small portions. The Mahi Mahi tacos are a favorite of mine - very delicious but not filling. Nice atmosphere and staff.

Loved the atmosphere. The baja shrimp tacos were delicious and the perfect amount of food. They were crispy without having too much breading. The red snapper was also really good.

Really cool atmosphere at El Ves. The place was very busy, but in a fun and energetic way. I immediately felt like my dinner choice was a good one when I walked in. The place was decorated in a bit of a quirky way, with the circular bar in the center and all the decor. I really enjoyed the feel. I thought the prices were a bit wild, $16-18 drinks, but maybe I’m just not used to inner city dining. We had a couple of pitchers ($48 ea) of margaritas that came out looking more like half a pitcher. The food was great, we enjoyed taco, steak, and Birria tacos, all three were delicious. I think $16 chips/ salsa (often free at Mexican joints) is nuts. The chips were good, but the salsa was pretty mid. The salsa was more of a rough chopped pico, maybe a half a cup of it. It sucked to try to scoop onto a chip. The guacamole was very bland and generic. Which is fine, but I think a little effort to make it interesting would have been nice. Overall a good dinner and good food, but not a place I’d return to.
