Amazing experience as a vegetarian. The vegan chicken tindle was amazing and there was so much food that I could barely finish the full 3 courses! The cheese fondue was to dieeeeeee for. Main course Proteins was good, with lots of veggies to choose from. Dessert was amazing, wish there were more marshmallows to roast. We even had a live guitar player which really made the evening more romantic. Ladies it does get a little hot in here with all the fondue pot burners so go light on the makeup and or outfit because you will get sweatyyyy! Overall super romantic atmosphere and amazing food, Def recommend for anniversaries, birthdays, special occasions, or dates.

For a fondue place the cheese was gross & gritty and the flame for cooking the meats kept going out but the server was no where to be found. Everything was SO bland, the atmosphere too dark and priced too high. I left here hungry and entirely disappointed.

It’s dimly lit, with wine bottles all around and live music. However, it isn’t just for couples - My brother and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves as we moved through the menu! For starters - the drinks were good! Cocktails are 50% off during their happy hour too! The food experience following was fantastic. VEGETARIAN AND PLANT BASED OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE AS WELL! We started by dipping various fruits and breads in the Gruyere cheese fondue. Then moved to a variety of meats, seafoods and veggies being fried in an oil, to pair with 1 of 8, of their house made sauces. The finisher is a flamed pot of Belgian chocolate served with more fruits, churros, rice krispy treats and pound cake for dipping. AMAZING! I tried a bottle of their special reserve Cabernet Sauvignon - perfect, and we also tried a warm drink made with Bailey’s. Excellent service, beautiful atmosphere and a filling spread. Make a reservation to experience them and tell them that Bri from Planes and Plates and her brother Brian 😂, sent you! Enjoy!

Geja's Cafe in Chicago is absolutely fabulous! This restaurant is way more than just food, it is an experience. The cheese fondue is beyond fabulous - I don't think I have ever had better fondue. The chocolate fondue is made with chocolate straight from Belgium. The atmosphere is lovely and romantic with live guitar music and private tables.

Overall an amazing experience. I went with my husband and we had a good time. The atmosphere is perfect for any special occasion or date night. The service was good as well. The live music is amazing! The food was pretty decent. So if you're looking for a romantic experience this is the place to go!

We had a reservation at Geja’s Restaurant for 7:30 PM, and we arrived a little early. While we understood we might have to wait until our reserved time, we ended up waiting until almost 8:15 PM to be seated. This made us question the point of making a reservation if it results in a 45-minute wait. The portion sizes seemed smaller than I remembered from previous visits. However, the food was still pretty good overall. The highlight of the meal was definitely the dessert, which was the best part of our dining experience. The service was decent, though not exceptional. Given the delay in seating and the smaller portion sizes, the experience fell short of our expectations. Despite these issues, the dessert and the overall quality of the food were redeeming factors.

Overall it was a disappointment. My friend and I had a reservation- they stuck us in the smallest table possible with the guitar players platform basically on top of us. There was no room. There was barely enough space for us to eat. The cheese fondue was good. We ordered the filet, chicken and shrimp entree. Literally 2 pieces of shrimp, and 4 chunks of filet and chicken. The filet was more like sirloin it was tough and not the quality I would expect for the price charged. The meat could definitely benefit from a marinade or some other type of seasoning besides the blend left on the table that barely comes out of the shaker. The chocolate fondue was good. The service was very good until the end when we had to wait forever for our server to both bring our check, and come back to pick up the payment. When we went to leave there was wine (from a server breaking a bottle and it not being cleaned properly) and oil spilled all over the floor between the cramped tables and my friend almost slipped in it. All in all not worth the price in my opinion.

Chicago’s most romantic restaurant for a reason! Geja’s Cafe is the perfect spot for date night or a celebration with their 3 course fondue. The cheese course is the best way to start with it’s the creamy Swiss and pairing of breads and veggies. I loved the 8 sauces with the entree course, and roasting marshmallows with the chocolate dessert course was so fun! A must hit spot that has been around for 59 years!

The place is very nice and cozy and the service is excellent and very attentive. The cheese fondue however we did not like at all. We were told by the waiter that it is made with real Swiss gruyere, kirsch and some nutmeg, but the nutmeg was too overpowering and I think they added a lot of flour (??) to it which made it more of a cheese sauce to us than fondue. You will have a great date here, we were just a bit disappointed by the cheese fondue. Edit: Corrected my mistakes (it was indeed nutmeg and kirsch), my apologies for this. Regarding the mix, I still believe that some flour was added (because of the "graininess"), and that it could have been better to mix the Swiss gruyère with another type of cheese, like vacherin for example, to enhance the creaminess. .

Best fondue of my life!!! This is the perfect spot for a romantic dinner to celebrate a special occasion. Be prepared to have a big bill though! It is definitely something that we wouldn’t normally do, but made a splurge to celebrate our anniversary. They were so kind and even gave us a signed anniversary card and a dessert wine on the house. The ambiance is so nice. They have soft mood lighting, walls of wine bottles, booths with curtains that give it such a cozy feel. Could not recommend enough! The cheese fondue is so flavorful. I’m going to be dreaming about it from here on out. Waitress was super nice and even gave us tips on what to see around the city since we were tourists. Such a great place!

Its a new experience, they start with dipping cheese and fruits pretzel bread and more stuff to dip, then comes your order and then you have to cook your food yourself which i really liked it was such an amazing, romantic experience

Hello foodies! Today we are embarking on the romantic fare. We are visiting one of our favorites, Geja’s Cafe in Lincoln Park. If you don’t know, Geja’s is a famous fondue place that has been voted Most Romantic several times on many of Chicago reviews. And they are right, this place is amazing! We came to celebrate our anniversary. They asked us this during the reservation, and they had a card made for us, signed by the entire staff! This was a fun and great detail as they made us feel as if we were their number one client. The ambience immediately speaks of a Parisienne café with lots of wood and drapes and metal reminiscence of a romantic era long ago. And the staff, they treat you like you’re royalty. Their fondue is absolutely top-notch. We went with 2 Prince Geja’s combination platters, which include an appetizer and a dessert. Our selection included Beef tenderloin, cold water lobster tail, white shrimp, fresh sea scallops and boneless chicken breast, and an array of vegetables. And while our food selection was impressive, the service was absolutely over-the-top fantastic. I can never say enough great things about our experiences at Geja’s because they cannot be beat. So, if you’re looking for a romantic experience, that’s also fun and interactive, this place is what you’re looking for. Enjoy!

One of our favorite places to go

Besides being a very fun and delicious experience, where Gejas really shines is the atmosphere, the best I've been in. From the dim candle lighting to the live music, it all comes together to enrich the charm of fondue.

Decided to try this place for dessert on a our anniversary trip and I'm glad we did. The service was excellent and the chocolate fondue was very good! The entire staff signed an anniversary card and sent it to our table, which was super nice of them. The only real negative I have to say about it was the fishy smell that was pretty pervasive, with lots of seafood being cooked around us. Not necessarily their fault, but it was hard to fully enjoy our sweets with it being so strong. Not a mark against them, just something to know if you go.

Upscale fondue restaurant. It's an experience. Excellent customer service. Very romantic place. Only downside is , Everything is to be deep fried, oil and oil. If there a miniature grill too, would be healthy option. I mentioned it was a birthday. on website notes, then on call , more specific on call, then again at the front desk , but still the card was placed "Happy anniversary" instead of birthday 🤦🤷 and waiter wished happy anniversary. 😊

if you’re looking for a unique food experience and want to be stuffed and take a good nap after, this is the place to be. the vibes were immaculate, it was so romantic, and the staff there go above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of. we loved the Marrakesh background and the story of how the restaurant came to be. overall, 100/10 and would highly recommend to people looking for a unique experience! p.s. perfect for birthdays and there is live spanish guitar

Good service, waiter did a great job from start to finish. Love the cleanliness. Food was ok. Not the best. But wait staff was the best.

*DISAPPOINTMENT* Have never written a negative review before concerning a restaurant, but I feel like it is valuable to share so others are aware. Geja’s was super disappointing in terms of the food: It was extremely over priced and horribly portioned. Paid $100 each for 6 vegetables, 2 prawns, 2 scallops, and 2 pieces of chicken that we had to cook ourselves… leaving us smelling like grease and seafood. Although the food sucked (to put it bluntly), I do have to mention that the service was good. Staff were friendly and welcoming - thank god for that, or else it would have completely sucked.

Amazing spot truly a hidden gem in Chicago. Dinned here a few times now and it's a wonder how they have kept the classics atmosphere! It's like a trip to 1960s France and Italy, as they say on the menu true to its roots for the last 60 years. Amazing wine, incredibly friendly staff, decadent desserts and the slightly ever so obvious racist Manager/ host ka+e. If you can look past the dim lit atmosphere, I definitely recommend it.

This was a five star experience for certain! Great food, ambiance, and service! I do need to add that valet parking is available but once we came out the guy was gone so we had to hunt down our key. It was a mishap but the professionalism remained in tact. I would definitely recommend.

What a lovely quaint spot to celebrate one’s anniversary, birthday, or just have a romantic dinner. A must try, I wish I would have known what specific vegetables come with each dinner, I would have opted out half of them. The smoke was a bit too much. I wish the circulation was better, where there was less smoke. But a lovely spot, that has been there MANY years.

My fiancé and I had dinner at Gejas Cafe during our anniversary trip to Chicago. They went out of their way to make us feel so special and celebrated. We had champagne and a staff signed happy anniversary card for us waiting for us at our table. The food was out of this world good! Rich, high quality, and provided an elevated fondue experience. To top it all off our waiter was very knowledgeable on the menu and personable. We had the best experience and will definitely be back next time we are in Chicago!

We have been to a few fondue restaurants but this one by far takes the cake! Best in Chicago hands down!! the food was amazing the ambience was superb and the customer service was some of the best I’ve experienced in a long time. We often leave still hungry at other fondue spots but this one is not stingy on their portions AT ALL! you will leave full and happy. I cannot wait until our next visit

Cheese was very gritty and they don't have a good way to manage the heat of the fondue pot so our cheese and chocolate both burned rather quickly. You don't get a lot of bread or veggie while dipping your cheese either. Not worth the price point

This place has a great atmosphere, romantic if you want it to be. They often have live music. Waiters and staff are always super friendly and helpful. They go above and beyond.

I love gejas! It lives up to it's romantic reputation and it's always a fun time when I go. The cheese fondue always is my favorite and so are all of the options with the chocolate fondue. They have a great variety of sauces for the proteins too. I was pleasantly surprised too to see they have a vegan meat substitute now too called tindle! Very good I'm not even vegan and I would get it!

Servers are professional and easy going. If a customer was new to fondue and the idea of cooking your food at the table, they would do well to try out Geja's. Staff can guide you well, as they are clearly used to helping couples along towards having a romantic dinner. As for the experienced fondue eater, Geja's is absolutely delicious (there is a ton of Gruyere in their recipe, wifey and I are cheese people). My one tip for newcomers is dress light with easily removable layers. It gets quite warm in there from all of the hot oils and open flames so be ready to sweat. For us that's the charm. This is a different and fun way to dine with your partner.

I always love going to Geja's for Chicago restaurant week! The food is delicious and plentiful. The manager stops by before we leave and ensures everyone has a lovely time. It's always fun to do the fondue.

This is one of my favorite dining experiences in Chicago. I have visited many times and it is always a unique, fun, interactive time. Enjoy live flamenco guitar in a cozy, intimate, garden-level space. Informative and engaging servers are a notable part of your visit, recommending perfect wine pairings and ensuring your fondue handling goes safely and smoothly. I highly recommend everyone visit at least once, but it is hard to stay away after your first exposure!

My husband and I have been to Geja's many times and we have thoroughly enjoyed the experience each and every time. This time we brought along friends who have never been there although they said many times they thought about trying it. We initially planned to go during restaurant week, but due to a change in work schedules, we dined on Monday. Fortunately for us they were having a Valentine's Day special for married couples and offered us discounts of 1% for each year of marriage. That was such a nice gesture. It is such a romantic place to enjoy a special Valentine's Day dinner with your special valentine or to celebrate birthdays or other special events. We leisurely chatted and enjoyed cocktails and good New Zealand wine while testing our skill at cooking various foods without having to "rescue" them. Geja's now provides a rescue tool for those pesky small pieces of food that refused to say on the end of your cooking fork. The new fingerling potatoes are much easier to cook than the former small potatoes. For the dessert course we couldn't decide between the traditional chocolate fondue or the new chocolate caramel pecan fondue so we had both! Our knowledgeable waiter Michael was delightful. He patiently answered all of our questions including how a restaurant with a Spanish sounding name served such an interesting array of foods. His wine suggestion went perfectly with our selections. Michael was very attentive without ever intruding upon our privacy in our cozy little booth. Although the weather was a bit chilly last night we noticed the outside fire pit table. That would be a very nice cable to try on a warmer spring, summer, or fall evening. As usual there is also a talented Spanish guitar player who serenades you. We found street parking which only cost us $7.50 and they also have valet parking for only $15. So there's no reason not to come on down to Geja's either by driving, or taking nearby convenient public transportation, or Uber.

Inconveniently seated at a cramped table, the staff went out of their way and was incredibly accommodating. Regrettably, the service presented a mixed experience. Our server encountered challenges maintaining the flame, contributing to an overall sense of hastiness. Premature plate clearing and a lack of receptiveness detracted from the potential for a leisurely dining affair. In summary, while the ambiance held promise, refinement in service and culinary execution would undoubtedly elevate the overall dining experience.

Definitely a fun way to enjoy dinner. The restaurant is dim, but not so dark I felt I needed a flashlight, and they had live music playing in the background. Ambience was great and it could make for a romantic evening! We had such a fun time and will certainly be back :) thanks!

Great experience at Gejas! Went for a discount during restaurant week but honestly their meals are worth it regardless. You guy a salad, cheese fondue, and chocolate fondue with your entre regardless. You also aren't rushed and can enjoy a long meal, cheese and chocolate fondues keep coming! 10/10

You cannot beat Geja’s for a more romantic spot! So many have gotten engaged there for good reason! Such a warm cozy setting. The classical guitar music makes it! Service is on point which for today is amazing in itself! Even the coat check girl was Great! Wine list is well done. Great choices for every palet & price point represented. Food is always good. Fresh, portions are perfect. Staff explains how it all works. Just a really good place for couples! We got engaged there, & go back every year on the date.

Had a reservation and were told to sit and wait which is fine. But then 3-5 more parties came in and got seated before us and we were still waiting 10-15 minutes later. Not a good first impression, it killed my mood because I was so excited. The service was mediocre. The waiter was funny and cracked some jokes, but was not attentive. There were server assistants too, and multiple times people walked by us and looked at us and walked away when something could’ve been done, like asking for another drink or taking our food and plates away. The food was really yummy, but I’m struggling to decide if I would come back because of the mediocre service. I was expecting more.

Went for restaurant week and so glad we did! Fondue is always a fun experience but Gejas makes it so classy and tranquil. The drinks were delightful and the service felt like we were being catered to like royalty! The s’mores and Churros were my favorite part of dessert and the vegetarian chicken was out of this world!!

Took my girlfriend here for restaurant week, The food was amazing, the atmosphere, the environment, everything was just perfect. we had an awesome waiter/server, and my girlfriend and I loved it. Everything was fresh, and the fondue was such a cool experience. I would love to do it again! Definitely recommend!!

Wow... Just Wow. This was a birthday dinner celebration for my fiancé. Neither of us had ever been to a fondue restaurant but I happened to stumble upon Geja and thought it was perfect. It completely was. Everything! I loved the old-world European vibe, it felt like you were anywhere but Chicago. A guitarist was playing, a fire was roaring outside, so very romantic. The food experience was amazing. Our waiter, Tino was the absolute bomb. He was very informative, fun and took care of all of our needs. Please ask for him, he will not disappoint. The dessert blew our mind. everything dipped in chocolate. What is not to like? We will definitely be back and will bring everyone we know. Thank you so much Geja!

One of the few places I believe in general deserving of 5 stars - it is a wonderful experience - the staff are very professional - the flow and the vibe was great. Dont expect it to be a dinner where you end up being stuffed but also this is not the place for it, so just setting expectations for everyone. Food was yummy(we went fully meat, no seafood), the dessert was amazing! The time is very appropriate and I would say it is more intimate than a group gathering - but I feel there is a place for everyone so the groups are not mingling with the couples (at least not everywhere) Anyway - totally an experience to have in Chicago!

The service is phenomenal. Our two servers, Horacio M and the other (didn't get her name) were very attentive to our needs and made our dining experience pleasant. The food for the fondue dinner is out of this world. We had ordered the International that came with an appetizer basket, a salad plate, and the main course (beef tenderloins, Gulf shrimp, and boneless chicken). Every bite we enjoyed and were amazed as to how tastful everything was. I would certainly recommend Geja's Cafe for anyone that wants a fantastic fondue experience or is looking for a romantic spots.
