A small but packed-with-experience winery! Nestled away is right! Gorgeous scenery, great wine, great time. The owners Max and Deon are full of knowledge and more than willing to share it with you so you get the full experience of their work. All the staff were great but special mention to Cindy who looked after us and served up a lovely platter to go perfectly with our tasting. We were in luck too, as we stopped in before their big South African festival so we came back with the whole family and got to experience the absolute fun of such a ripper of an event! We were a long way from home (another country) but Grayhaven is already on the list to revisit!

A quick visit to Grayhaven Winery! Wonderful service at an outside table. Beautiful farm like scenery. Rustic atmosphere. We completely enjoyed ourselves and our wine and cheeseboard! We will definitely visit again. We’ve been to this winery approximately 5 times. Always a relaxing and entertaining visit!!

To say this is off the beaten track, is an understatement, but aren't the best places meant to be hard to find? We went up there on a Sunday afternoon, had a lovely couple of hours, drinking a glass, nibbling on a plentiful cheese board, talking with the owners. Well worth the visit. Small tip - when coming in, its the building to the right, not the one of the left - we nearly set up camp on someones' front deck!

What a delightful place, it is so adorable, the owner and staff are charming and so welcoming. South African wine is something every wine lover should try at least once... but Im willing to bet you'll be back for the the sangria, its refreshing on these summer days. Please try the cheese trays, goat cheese is fantastic, and make sure to take a limeade for the road. 10/10 would recommend

We stopped at 11:55 and left at 2:03. Stopped for simple wine tasting. Have been to many wineries in Charlottesville, Va area and never had such a negative experience. It was Mother’s Day, so may have been busier than usual. Grounds grown up in weeds by building. Huge dog?? Poop near table that both a young man tending horses and our overwhelmed server, stepped over without cleaning up. Owner, who stated he was from South Africa, and he had been in the “business” for a long time, did little to help the one wine server that was overwhelmed, forgot to tell us about two of the wines we tasted, and tasting pour incredibly small. Yes, I complained when we left. Horrible place to be on Mother’s Day. Never again.

Stumbled across this place by accident. Adorable and very comfortable little spot and the hospitality cannot be beat.

This quaint winery was wonderfully welcoming and the hospitality was second to none, look no further for the best experience around. Thank you for having us, we shall return.

I visited Grayhaven for the first time last weekend… and I’m obsessed! The vibe was rustic and relaxed, which made for the perfect afternoon. A sunshiny patio - sweet horses at the fence (that you’re able to pet/ interact with) next to the tasting room - lots of green space with a pond and grapes growing in the back field. Are you kiddin me?! 🫠 We were greeted by the owner upon arrival and warmly welcomed. They’re currently renovating the original tasting room, so they have transformed the former barn/stable into a tasting room and small event space (with beautiful stained glass windows). The tasting itself was great - it was a mix of South African and Grayhaven wines. I especially loved the South African whites! But what you should be really excited for is their SANGRIA and PORT! Again, 🫠!!! We also ordered the small cheese board - it was the perfect amount for 2 to share and a great selection of cheeses, olives, and crackers. I went home with two bottles of the Terre Brulee (Chenin Blanc), and my mom and I both got bottles of fresh Sangria to go! Honestly, I can’t wait to go back to Grayhaven - especially for the South African Food and Wine Festival this fall.

Such a magical space. Excellent wine and food, service was incredibly personable cannot recommend enough as a great way to spend the afternoon!

This is a very rustic winery that offers great wines. The tasting room used to be a barn but was renovated and is a cozy spot to sip wine. The owner and staff take pride in telling the story behind the winery and the wines.

Love the folks at Grayhaven. A down to earth crew with wonderful wines and a cozy tasting room on a chilly fall evening.

Went there this weekend for the South African Food Fest. Quite frankly I was a bit disappointed. I went looking forward to all the food as I am a foodie and there was only a few food truck options. Not what I was expecting. Other than that the wine tasting was good and definitely busy. Overall it was a nice day to be outside with friends and drink wine. It was nice but having gone to quiet a few food fest before this one didn't quite make the marks. On a regular day visit yes but not another food event for me.

Absolutely enjoyed my visit yesterday afternoon. The wine was enjoyable(loved the sangria and pinotage), met the owner and staff who treated you like family, the environment was welcoming and rustic. Oh and the cheeseboards looked delicious-we didn't order one but saw three pass by and they looked plentiful and amazing. Will definitely be back.

A delightful taste of South Africa

The Mezze and Cheese board is our absolute favorite. They’re dog friendly which drew us to the winery but the boards, phenomenal wines to include a variety of South African varieties , and Deon are what bring us back time and time again.

I have been to Grayhaven a few times and it's always a wonderful experience. The grounds are beautiful, the wines are delicious, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The first time we were here, the owner did our tasting and had some great South African wines in addition to the house wines. We'll be back!

Over the past year of 2022 enjoyed 5 or so local wineries once. Grayhaven quickly became our favorite our favorite winery. ♥️ 🍷 We visited about 4 times ❤️ The owners make you feel like invited family 🥂 ❤️

We love going to Grayhaven frequently! The wines, food and service are all wonderful. Deon, the owner, makes relaxing in his property a pleasure. We just had a bridal shower at the barn in the property and everything was so beautifully decorated and perfect that it made the future bride teary eyed. Would definitely recommend it!

Always enjoy seeing Dion and Max, Dion makes some nice South African wines, and also imports some unique bottles I can't find locally. The charcuterie boards are generous and the environment is laid back and a bit rustic. Great place to hang out and relax for an hour or two!

Absolutely amazing experience. Grayhaven is delightful, warm, and so beautiful. The staff/family were so welcoming and provided such a warm service. They have horses that you can feed and the family dogs run around saying hi to people. A huge variety of delicious wines, hugely recommend the Braai pinotage. Oh, and their charcuterie boards come in large enough portions to satisfy four people, excellent quality too. I can't wait to go back!

We had a great time at Grayhaven, as always. Each visit is memorable, the owner is always just an absolute joy to talk to, and they remember us every time, taking great care of us, as well as the little kids. They even let my little ones feed the fish, which they thoughts was the coolest thing ever! We love the old school classic feel of the grounds, as well as the updated winery feel for the experience. Great wine and excellent tasting experiences and descriptions. We will be going back again every time we get close to Grayhaven! Joseph & Fam

Spent the afternoon here for a birthday gathering and it was our first time. Everything was so cute, great wine selection and sangria, we got a big shaded table to ourselves and the service was amazing! Particularly Fran who made our visit so perfect, greeted us right away, checked in regularly, and even took photos of our group. I’ll definitely be back!

Delightful experience! They have some very different wines, and delicious, from South Africa. The charcuterie board was very good, and the owner was quite enjoyable to talk to. Glad it’s close by, so I can go often.

Intelligently made sweet wines with character, savory dry reds with complex and enjoyable flavor, and a delightfully unique port that you can sit with all day long. I am absolutely thrilled that I stumbled upon their winery.

It was SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS! Wine tasting was delicious and the cheese tray had a great variety. The people were very friendly and the weather was absolutely beautiful that day.

We thoroughly relaxed and enjoyed ourselves here. Our kids were so happy to run around outside and see the horses and koi fish in the pond. The staff were extremely friendly and inviting and the wine was good!

Hands down my favorite winery. I have been going here regularly for the last 9 years and each time I bring more and more people with the experience the unique scenery, building, one of kind owner and staff, and some of the best wine just outside RVA. It's off the beaten bath and they have really put time and work into making this place look great to match how absolutely amazing the wine is.

The staff and owners are wonderful hosts and delightfully charming. We will return and maybe bring a picnic while enjoying the koi pond and the rustic surroundings.

The amazing family who runs Grayhaven created magic for us! They provided fabulous food and delectable wine for our impromptu, minimalistic and magical pandemic wedding, and they truly helped make our story incredible. My husband and I went on our first date at Grayhaven in June of 2019, and we got married on the dock of their pond in August of 2020, and now, in August of 2021, we will make sure to stop by and enjoy their amazing style, impeccable taste and uniquely beautiful atmosphere as we celebrate the first year of marriage and the future ahead of us! Thank you for making our lives so enriched with your energy, passion and vision!

Wow, such a unique experience. This is an oasis off the beaten path. Looking for a different type of grape? Here you can enjoy South African wines in a mini paradise. Not only were the wines amazing but their charcuterie boards were outstanding! The small board was more than enough!! Highly recommend

I drove up from NC to meet a friend for a couple of days to shop and explore the area. We luckily found this little gem of a winery and had a lovely afternoon sampling various wines and a yummy cheese platter. The experience was made even better with the owner, Deon, greeted us as we were parking and pointed us where to start. We were served by Ari , whom did a fantastic job explaining each wine and it’s region. Nice to have an employee that has passion for her job. If you like a crisp, fresh white wine, the Kaapzicht Chenin Blanc wil not disappoint.

Grayhaven winery was awesome!! The service was just fantastic food was great and plentiful and the wine was awesome. Winery is off the grid but so worth the trip.
