Seemed like Nice people but Ordered dumplings and wontons.. dumplings were not very good wontons in soup were dry meat was dry and unseasoned id suggest McDonalds or even Cumberland farms this time of night during day zavala Mexican bistro..plum tomato.ect ECT .I ate most of the dumplings and soup as I was hungry but would never come here again many better local restaurants plum... illianos...zavala..post road market and all fast food restaurants.

In strip mall...tough to find, but nice people and good food.

Terrible food. Noodles weren’t seasoned at all. Even adding soy sauce didn’t help to cover the bland taste.. this is low quality food and too expensive for what it is. Bill for two entrees and one serving of egg rolls came to a total of 32$. I was hoping to like the place as other reviews were good 😞 but the only thing that tasted ok was the egg rolls and I had better once from other places. Will not be coming back to this restaurant.

We ordered 4 combo meals and 2 other meals but they were still ready in the promised 20 minutes. One meal was required to be "gluten free" and it was handled without issue. Friendly employees. The storefront and counter were neat and clean.

Best Chinese in all of East Lyme and Niantic

I have ordered take away several times ... mediocre food.

ordered chicken wings, barbecue beef rib and the fried wonton and crabragoon. The chicken wings were yellowish orange, like it was food coloring, it didn't taste bad but it left orange stains on my tongue and when i went to the bathroom it came out orange! The beef rib was covered with food coloring . The crab Rangoon was not crispy at all it hurt my teeth when i bit down and the wonton just tastes bad.

Just ok I don’t see why they have 4 1/2 stars. This place is just OK. I ordered shrimp with garlic sauce extra spicy nothing too flavorful about this meal the Wong tong soup. Actually the Wong tongs don’t even have a good flavor It had nothing extra added to it besides three or four green onions not overly impressed I figured with all of the competition in the area it would be really good. My thoughts were on😢

The food was awesome before the change in ownership. Now it's really changed for the worse. Egg rolls were lacking stuffing and hard, the shrimp had a lot bread and undercooked and the rice was dry.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. We've been eating here since we moved to East Lyme six years ago. Really good food. The egg rolls are absolutely delicious. Best I've ever had at a Chinese restaurant and I've lived all over the country. The food is always hot and fresh, the prices are good, and the woman who works in the front is always very pleasant. Very happy to support this local business.

I absolutely love trying different Chinese restaurants and recognize that there are differences between them in terms of how items might be prepared, with sauces, spices and even with respect to the quality of products used. My experience with Great Wall was very disappointing. I only ordered four items so take that into consideration as there may be other menu creations that are significantly better. I ordered shrimp fried rice, chicken lo mein, General Tsao's chicken and Sesame Chicken. To be honest, I was fine with the Fried Rice and the Chicken Lo Mein. They were not the best I have had but were tasty and if they were the entire basis of my review, the rating would be higher. However, both the General Tsao's and Sesame Chicken (which start out the same before sauce and spice) were inedible. I don't mean that they were just bad - I could not break them down by chewing. The pieces were not in the least bit tender, had almost no chicken within the thick and leathery coating and were even difficult to cut. I tried four or five different-sized pieces and for the first time in my life, threw out the rest of both meals. I had ordered the Sesame chicken for my son - to be heated up later - but tossed it before he could even try it and explained why. I understand that these are not the healthiest items but folks like me who go to most Chinese restaurants and order these kinds of foods know that going in! If these two particular items are prepared this way and start out this way, then one could expect the same from the orange chicken...etc. Perhaps there are some sauteed items, not fried first, that would be more tender and flavorful but I will not be finding out. If i find out that this restaurant changes their products or preparation of the items in which I am interested, I would try again and adjust my review as might be appropriate. Until then, I will not be going back for another bite of the apple. I would like to mention that I thought that the owner (I think she was the owner) seemed very nice and friendly and the prices were reasonable on their face, for the portions offered. I would actually find better products for the items I referenced and increase my pricing accordingly.

Super underwhelmed with the chow mein. Every reference photo you look up of chow mein on google, there’s actually noodles in it. Unfortunately, this was soggy chicken with no seasoning that literally feels and tastes like in was cooked in an also season-less, slimy, paste with some lettuce and bean sprouts. The menu says fried noodles but what they actually give is like noodle chips/crackers. We expected it to be like their lo mein which looks good in the pictures. The crab rangoons, egg rolls, and general tso chicken was pretty okay but the chow mein kind of messed it up. I hope they fix it soon. Will maybe order the lo mein next time and hope for better results.

this is an update to the following review. The woman who answers the phone speaks very quickly with the heavy accent so I recommend going there in person and placing the order and circling things on the menu and writing things down because her communication abilities are not as good as they should be. You might end up with a lot more food and paying for food that you don't need. That said the food was still good but they were busy and the vegetables that I asked for soft came out Al dente. However everything after this is still true the food is still good. Every time I go to this place it's consistently delicious. I usually order the chicken with bean sauce and choose my own vegetables they never charge me extra and the white meat is always tender and the vegetables are cooked to perfection! Every single time. This place is one of the most consistent Chinese restaurants I have been to in the state of Connecticut. This place is always clean and their service is great and their prices are fair the portion sizes are also very good. the rice is delicious. Most Chinese restaurants I barely even eat the white rice but somehow they have perfected the art of cooking rice and their rice is never dried out like many Chinese restaurants. Their pork fried rice is very good also. The wonton soup is also good. You will not be disappointed it is the best Chinese restaurant anywhere on the shoreline from Old Lyme to Groton and inland all the way to Norwich. I doubt if he will find a better Chinese restaurant than this. The only problem is that it's take out only. They also are still social distancing with a clear plastic barrier at the counter. If you have a hankering for Chinese food this is the place to go!

Food is amazing!!!! Definitely try spate ribs with bone. HOWEVER, they did not include forks and spoons. We literally ate made up utensils because we where in a hotel.

This place has been here since I was a kid. It’s amazing to come home to visit and everything still tastes the same and just as good. The steamed chicken with garlic sauce is killer and not heavy. The steamed dumplings are delicious and freshly made. The standard this place sets is hard to beat.

This is my go to spot for Chinese food in East Lyme. Michelle and her family are the most wonderful people. I came back from college 4 years later and they still remembered me! Not only are the staff very nice, the food is amazing. Veggies are always fresh and everything is seasoned perfectly. They are also very accommodating. Sometimes I ask them for a vegan stir fry and they do it for me! Great place!

This place has really gone downhill, the boneless ribs were tough and dry not a lot of ribs just mostly rice and the egg roll was burnt to a crisp not even edible. This is not my first bad experience with this place but decided to try again and was disappointed yet again. Won't be going back any time soon.

This place actually surprised me. They offer a good selection of food items and combos. The quality of the food is great as well. Nice people too!

The crab rangoon has a lot of creamy cream cheese in it. Their egg rolls are spot on, especially the shrimp roll. I love the Szechuan chicken. Great value and tons of food.

Our go to for "Americanized" Chinese takeout. The staff is always friendly and the food is ready fast. The General TSo chicken and egg rolls are particularly good here.

EXCELLENT as always. I think we have ordered most items on their menu. It's small but clean and friendly place. Mostly take out. But they have some tables for you to eat in. But if you want good dependable Chinese food, this is the place. They have an extensive menu and it goes thru the basics to their specialities. If you're a regular, they tend to remember your favorites and if you ask will vary the spiciness In a dish. All in all, if there's something you don't want, tell them. They're very accommodating. I've been going to them for over 16 yrs, and not once did I get a wrong order.

The spare ribs are the best things ever. I even got a large because I love it so much.

I liked this place. It wasn't my absolute favorite in the area, but it had good flavor, and the food was fresh; it didn't taste like it had been sitting in the cooler an 'extra day' like a lot of places. (all over). (FULL DISCLAIMER: THIS FOLLOWING WAS ONE SINGLE TIME AND MAY NOT ALWAYS BE THE CASE) My beef lo mein was a little extra heavy on the garlic though. Listen, i love garlic, (who doesn't?) but just maybe take it back about 10% there cowboy. It was still good, it still hit the spot, don't get me wrong, but it just wasn't what i necessarily thought i was signing up for. I'll definitely be back, and you guys are super awesome, but seriously i could have metaphorically impaled a vampire with that breath.

I'm so glad to finally find a good Chinese/Asian restaurant that has egg-rolls just as I like them. It's close to my home and replaces another place as my go-to for takeout.

Ordered on December 25 because it was the only Chinese restaurant open in the area. Food was very good. Staff was friendly, food was ready (a large order) in 20 minutes. Several other people were pickling up large orders at the same time but there was no wait. Egg Rolls were very good, not greasy. Lo-Mein was full of vegetables and not too much garlic.... delicious. Boneless spareribs were not fatty and the portion (large) was huge!. We also had Roast Pork with Chinese vegetables and Sesame Chicken which was pleasantly, but not too, sweet. Both were very good. LARGE size portions are LARGE! Didn't care for the dumplings....they are pretty standard ...a little too doughy and heavy. Friendly staff. Excellent value for the price and open on Christmas Day (evening).

We ordered take out so I cannot speak about the table service. The food was decent average Chinese food. I had the sesame shrimp which the flavor was different than what I have had at other Chinese restaurants. Would probably try something else next time. The portion size is generous.

This is hands down the best Chinese in town! An East Lyme classic and chinese take out staple! The food is incredible and the service is superior! A small family serving up family style take out ! I highly recommend the steamed dumplings and of course the wonton soup. Our family has been coming here for generations !

This is your standard american Chinese joint.it is exceptional in the care they provide their customers. They are very willing to accommodate even the pickiest eaters, and they are fast, even when busy. While they may never accrue a Michelin star, they general Tso's chicken is great, and I have yet to be disappointed by any other menu item I or any of my family has ordered.

I stopped in to check the place out and I liked what I saw. They made the food as it was ordered instead of it just sitting all day in a steam table. They have a wide variety on the menu and really good price. My order had really good portions and really flavorful. I ended up visiting quite a bit.

This Chinese Restaurant keeps on going! Michelle & Tommy deliver their food with love, care, and pride. Our favorites are Sesame Chicken and Chicken Lo mien. The Great Wall is generous with their portions and will give you extra sauces and fortune cookies, too. They are always quick with a smile and run their business with great efficiency. If you want, they have a small table where some people like to sit down and eat although it is meant as primarily a take-out restaurant. They are in the corner of Mid Way Plaza so it may be a little hard to find. As you drive in off of Flanders Road, they are on the left. The town does not allow neon lights but they outshine the other spots... so stop by and tell these friendly folks hello. By the way, their dumplings are to die for!

This is just your run of the mill Chinese take out, nothing special here, but it is decent. The good thing about this place is they have two sixes for most meals.

One meal and the soup would be plenty. We have a full meal plus a little and an egg roll for tomorrow. They were generous with the seafood and it was done to perfection. We were driving about in the parking area trying to find Great Wall. The waitress saw us and called on our cell phone to help out. First class food and service, go for take-out.

This place blows me away in a good way their food is so good! I am from Manhattan originally and grew up eating amazing Chinese food all my life so I am picky on this cuisine and I went in for a lunch special and was so impressed we now have dinner from there regularly.

The Great Wall could be called the hole in the wall, you could miss it if you blink. However if you miss it, you will never know how good it is. So here it is, two nights before I leave Niantic and I finally check this place out, shame on me for that. I have been going to another place, close to Main street, hey the prices are a little lower. However the servings are twice the size at the Great Wall. Also the food tastes better. Don't be like me, check this place out, and come back every time you get a chance. This is a classic family run chinese restaurant, not much atmosphere, but really good food for a really good price. Wish it was closer to Dallas (Denton), or better yet, they could move to Texas and open up there, yep that would rock my world. Oh well, I urge you to visit them here so they don't pack up and move close to me. yep, that good.

Always get really good Chinese food at the Great Wall restaurant. They always get your order right. Prices are reasonable, and the food is very very good. Only a couple of tables for eat in. Mostly take out. Recommend.
