Delicious Ethiopian food and wonderful service. We stopped for lunch because of the location and great reviews and it lived up to the hype. Will definitely be back!

Absolutely amazing experience of having the authentic Ethiopian food in DC. Owner Guenette is the most welcoming and pleasant host. Food is top grade. We got tibs combos(veggies and beef) which was amazing. It was so nice to wrap things up with a cake and an Ethiopian coffee pot that comes with incense. A very relaxing culinary experience. We will come back in a heart beat.

The food was amazing! The lady running the place was so kind and friendly. The place is a little small and it’s only her so if you are planning on a big group make sure to call ahead.

I recently dined at Gueny’s Cafe & Market and was thoroughly impressed by the entire experience. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was inviting and cozy. Each dish was a masterpiece, bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. I particularly enjoyed the Tibs, which was cooked to perfection and tender. The ingredients were fresh and high-quality, and it was evident that a lot of care went into every aspect of the meal. I never leave reviews but this tiny, unassuming hole-in-the-wall is the best brunch I have ever had. My boyfriend and I ordered a selection of traditional Ethiopian breakfast dishes and couldn't stop eating. It's like having two Ethiopian grandmothers cooking for you with care and love. To give an example-- before the coffee service the owner came out to let us smell the beans she was pan-roasting before grinding them for our pot. 15/10, this is our regular spot now.

I ordered the traditional coffee service for me and two other friends. I know I'm a coffee fiend because I could have consumed the whole pot, but it was a pleasant experience to enjoy the coffee with my friends. After our meal, the owner came up to ask us how we enjoyed our meal and shared part of her story. This is an excellent find, and I highly recommend it. Going back ASAP!

Excellent food and service! Gueny is so so sweet and a wonderful cook. We got the vegetarian platter with seven options and very much enjoyed it — was plenty of food for the two of us. Get yourself in there if you haven’t tried it yet!

We had breakfast here on Sunday and were so glad we did! The foul was amazing! Made me feel like we were back in Addis. The owner was a gracious host and even made coffee ceremony for us. Will DEFINITELY come back next time we are in town!

We popped into Gueny's by chance today and boy am I glad we did! We were met with an authentic, flavourful, home cooked Ethiopian meal, by far the best we've had in the city. You cannot go wrong with a visit to Gueny's.

This tiny, unassuming storefront is home so some of the best Ethiopian we’ve had in DC! Decided to try a new place for lunch on a whim, and absolutely loved the fresh-made and flavorful food made by Gueny herself. The special tibs were so delicious, served with shiro and collard greens. The injera was nice and spongy with good flavor. Gueny was so kind, checking on us to make sure we were doing ok and offering to explain the food as we were looking at the menu. The space is small but there are a few tables, but it would also be good for carry-out (I’m not sure if you can call ahead but it may be a good idea - everything is made to order so it takes time, but is certainly worth it!). Can’t wait to return to try the breakfast, coffee, and panini sandwiches.

A true hidden gem. I went to eat here a couple weeks ago and the food is absolutely phenomenal - meant to leave a review sooner! I spoke to the very kind woman who owns the place and she said that cooking has always been a passion of hers and that she took a chance to open this restaurant later in life. The passion comes across in quality of the food and I have such admiration for people who take a chance on doing what they love. A must try for fantastic food, great service, and supporting someone doing what they love! Will definitely be coming back!

had the best experience at guenet tadesse’s spot—the vegetable dishes and injera were completely delicious, and the ethiopian coffee she poured for us was perfect, and served with fresh popcorn. very charming and intimate cafe, and such gud conversation at this lovely spot to pop into during our one day in DC for protests at the capitol.

this place is so bomb!!! and might be the best ethiopian i’ve ever had :D i got the 5 veggie sampler for 15 dollars and it was so much food, in my mind it could have easily served two. the green beans were super tender and liked how it was the whole bean!! the cabbage was sweet, the two types of lentils spicious, and the collard greens were so comforting and nice. the owner (gueny) was so incredibly kind and gave me some shiro to try for free and it was THE BEST i’ve ever had. so smooth and well rounded without feeling greasy!!! such quality food from great people!! please come out to support this small owned business, you won’t regret it!

It feels so genuine and authentic when you walk in. Like I'm ethiopian all of sudden. I knew what flavors I wanted but not what to call them. She listened and created me a custom ethiopian inspired breakfast platter- with eggs and pepper and tomatoes and don't forget the injera - that was to die for. I went back the next morning lol Now I won't come back to DC without stopping by here.

I am visiting the DC area from CA and I found this place by accident… I am an Ethiopian by birth and I tell this is best Ethiopian food I ever tasted. anywhere in DC Area …..Honestly!!!! Gueny’s serve not only Ethiopian dishes but also have other food I..e, spaghetti, sandwiches etc.. The service is impeccable. And I highly recommend this place. Elsabeth

Amazing food and service with authentic homemade recipes!!!

I was attracted to Grueny’s by the Ethiopian restaurant sign and I hadn’t eaten breakfast after I landed at DCA. So I had the Uber drop me off in front and I popped in to check out the offerings. It’s very small space but very neatly set up and clean. Grueny is such a kind and sweet woman. I ordered the veggie omelette and hot vanilla latte and it was absolutely wonderful; I will definitely be back to enjoy more of this nice little restaurant with amazing food!

In town staying at a nearby Airbnb and happened to see Gueny's on Googlemap after a 3 hour drive. A perfect welcome to DC. Had the feel of a home cooked meal. She took the time and care to suggest and prepare food for my picky kids that wasnt on the menu. My 1st time eating Ethiopian food and the Tibs were tasty. Prices are reasonable. Go there you won't be disappointed.

Delicious coffee! Also enjoyed the breakfast sandwich - so good 😋. The service here is deliberate and everything is made to order, so don't plan on a rush to go order. The staff is very friendly!

Visited for breakfast after seeing the great reviews. Had a wonderful coffee experience where the owner lit incense and brought out coffee and popcorn. Ordered 4 traditional breakfasts which was great for our group of 5. Also ordered two fruit smoothies which were super fresh and large, great meal overall. Everything was delicious and made fresh by the owner who was incredibly kind. Very affordable and large portions. Definitely recommend this restaurant and look forward to coming back.

The owner was also super kind and you could tell she puts care into her cafe and her food. The experience was wonderful and if I make my way back to the area I am 100% gonna visit her again. If you go there for breakfast, I really liked the “Traditional Breakfast” shown in the photo.

We had a super-delicious brunch here. Everything was so fresh and well-spiced and tasty. And the coffee is amazing. The owner is super sweet and goes out of her way to take care of you. Will definitely be back soon.

We stopped here on Thanksgiving morning, and were so impressed by the quality of the food, the attention to detail, the presentation, and Gueny’s warmth and hospitality. I told my husband it was the best omelet I’ve ever had. We don’t live in the area, but definitely will be coming back the next time we’re in town to visit family, as I’m eager to try some Ethiopian food. Highly, highly recommend!
