Wow, just wow! I have only eaten at the restaurant. The food is top notch, I recommend going for dinner to fully experience their culinary expertise. I don’t have a favorite thing, the entire menu is 5 star. The ambiance…oh the ambiance! This might be the most aesthetically pleasing dining experience I’ve ever had. The staff is so friendly that I feel like a friend after one visit. I love the mixed drink specials, which are very well made. I recently learned of some live entertainment and am very excited to come back for that!!! Thank you Guesthouse team, you rock! See you soon.

This was the second time I’ve stayed at the Guesthouse and it was just as amazing this time as it was the last. The staff is all super friendly and not once did myself or my girlfriend feel out of place. Very peaceful, breathtaking beautiful and most definitely a place you go with your significant other for a memorable weekend. Thanks again to all the staff and the owner, Garry for a great weekend. We will be back again someday soon!

Very wonderful atmosphere and service, I was very pleased with my filet, yet very underwhelmed with my whiskey sour, kind of just tasted watered down. The apple crumbcake was also supposed to be warm yet came out almost as cold as the ice cream it came with.

The Guesthouse just hosted our company's retreat, and everything was perfect. Gary, Jesse, and their team went above and beyond to guarantee a wonderful weekend experience with excellent food and drink amid both meeting and fun spaces.

My wife and I enjoy this place is well taken care of, the accommodations are always great. This our favorite get away spot that isn't really that far away. The food is absolutely delicious and the service is always excellent.

We really enjoyed our weekend stay at this wonderful inn in the mountains of West Virginia. The hosts, Jesse and Gary, were warm and friendly and ready to offer suggestions about exploring the area. The inn felt like being in one’s beautiful and cozy country home, with several areas to relax by the fire, watch a movie, play a board game or just enjoy the great views of the mountains. We were also very pleased with the dining room and bar, as well as the friendly staff and guests. We are definitely planning to go back for another visit.

This place is truly awesome and lives up to its well-deserved reputation. If we ever find ourselves back in the area, it will unquestionably be my go-to spot. The ambiance and views are fantastic, and it's a regret that I couldn't spend more time there. I'll definitely consider staying at the lodge in the future.

Ate here while on vacation with my wife of now 10 years. The owners are friendly and attentive. The food appetizers were perfect along with the main course. The deserts were not up to the main course’s standard, but still tasty. I love thé quiet atmosphere which is great for couples and also liked having local beer options. Highly recommend for a date night, kids are welcome…but I would try and leave them home.

Stayed here and had a great time with friends! The rooms were clean and the service was friendly and good. The restaurant felt a little stuffy and the ‘on your plate’ breakfast threw us off as there were no choices. It was a good breakfast though! The pool was great! The owner/manager seemed very inquisitive about our plans for dinner and lunch, which we thought was a bit odd. Overall, nice place for a getaway but I could wait for another occasion before I return.

What a REMARKABLE getaway. Owners Jesse and Gary put a ton of thought into the design of the space... and just as much effort into how they welcome you into it. Quiet and cozy rooms surround a beautiful pool, a main lodge with a ton of space to spread out and relax in comfort. A small on-site hot tub and sauna complete your mountain relaxation. You're welcomed to breakfast with a table set just for you -- awaiting your arrival... the food at breakfast and dinner is wonderful. If you're on the fence about booking a stay here -- let this review nudge you into doing it. This is an incredibly special place -- and the photos don't do justice to the totality of the experience.

We just had our anniversary dinner here. And they did a wonderful job. Service was attentive and friendly. Oh my, the food was fantastic!! Crad cake stuffed flounder , potatoes with carrots. It was so good , I am still buzzing from the culinary heights. Go see these folks . Let nothing get in the way. Highly recommend.

Such a hidden gem place to stay and dine. We went there for dinner. Easy drive from Harrisonburg. Food was exquisite and service was extra special. We ordered the grilled fish fillet and chicken stuffed with spinach. The were both soooo good. I couldn’t post pictures due to issues with google maps. Will go back soon.

Hidden away in the mountains of the Lost River area of Hardy County, WV, this breathtaking resort destination is the perfect romantic getaway for the weekend. We have stayed here on multiple occasions. Gary and/or Jesse are always at the Front Desk upon checking in to greet us by name and welcome us back. The Guesthouse Suite is our favorite room. It is tastefully decorated and perfect for entertaining, should you make friends during your stay. A luxurious pool with bar service is a great way to spend a summer afternoon. Live entertainment is usually scheduled as an added bonus to your visit. Dining at the Guesthouse is always an option for non-guests as well as guests. The dining choices are usually sourced from local farmers and always delicious! Breakfast is complimentary and consists of a full Southern Style selection. When you hear the Breakfast Bell rung at 9am, just head down to restaurant.

What an incredible stay. Booked a private suite in a cabin. Entire experience was amazing. Owners are warm, friendly, and accommodating. Very evident their eyes & hearts are trained to detail. From cleanliness to hospitality to the incredible food. Most warming part of this stay was witnessing the local community showing up in support of diversity. Definitely will be back one day.

Reading through some of the other reviews here, it's clear that any of the issues folks have had could have been avoided if they’d just read the info that was given to them. A group of 16 of us booked for the weekend and I honestly can't think of enough great things to say. Seriously, everything about this place was AMAZING! I organized the trip, so I got to work with one of the owners, Jesse, to get everything set up. He was helpful, responsive, accommodating, and really kind. I organize a lot for my friends and myself, and this was one of the easiest. Upon arrival we were checked in by the other owner, Gary, who immediately made us feel like we were at home. He gave us a wonderful tour of the property and told us everything we needed to know for a wonderful stay. This property is nestled in the hills of WV and the views are STUNNING! Every space and room is beautifully appointed, really leaning into the upscale rustic vibe you'd expect in a mountain retreat. So many beautiful nooks and crannies to sit and read or play games or just nap. The pool and hot tub are gorgeous and Logan at the pool bar will take amazing care of you! They provide a complimentary breakfast of freshly cooked eggs, meats, and biscuits/scones. The lunch and dinner menus are varied and everything we had was delicious. Our servers, Rain (spelling ??) and Angie were stellar and the ambience was just perfect. Every single one of us left feeling refreshed and we were all sad to leave. Do yourself a favor and make the trek out to Lost River and treat yourself. This place is amazing and I'm already planning my next trip here with my partner.

We were staying nearby in a quiet lodge around the ‘Lost River’ area and so were looking at the limited options a drive away and this place popped up. We booked it without too much pre-reading of reviews so didn’t have high expectations - however we had an amazing meal and loved the attentive staff! We arrived at 19:45 on a Saturday and were the last table seated (which was a slight shame as others left soon after so perhaps it’s an earlier venue to get the full atmosphere) however got to see a stunning sunset from the dining room windows! We had the duck wontons and they were the ultimate snack - truly delicious. The real star of the show was their steaks - holy cow. Huge steaks that were perfectly cooked to order and deliciously tender and tasty. No room for a dessert! Would wholeheartedly recommend and there’s a cool little bar out the back as well.

What a gem! We came for dinner. One of the owners greeted us upon arrival. The ambiance is perfection and what better background music than a self playing piano. The food was inventive and the service was attentive. Best of all was the kind people (owners, employees, and patrons) who went above and beyond to try and pull out my car. I won’t be letting the boyfriend drive anymore, but I can see us returning to this gem of an establishment.

It’s a home away from home when I need a quiet weekend and some mountain air to breathe. Gary & Jesse are consummate hosts, and the locals you’ll meet make you feel welcome. Every time I visit, I fantasize about buying a little cabin nearby so I’ll never have to leave.

The owners, Gary and Jesse, were welcoming, friendly, and clearly love their little slice of heaven in Lost River. Our cabin was decorated with the care someone would take with their home: warm, inviting, comfy full of texture; not stuffy or corporate. There are a TON of accommodations, such as a table waiting for your morning breakfast, sauna, pool, entertainment room, sitting areas with books, games, TV, hot tub, you name it! Even the friendly guests help curate the vibe. All smiles and relaxed faces, which is a testament to the oasis Gary and Jesse have created! We can't wait to stay again!

For a DC area resident, the ability to get the kind of food, service, and overall experience that we did for the price we did at Guest House was nothing short of a revelation. I'm now strongly tempted to drive 2.5 hours out to Guest House for dinner as a regular habit.

All I can say is that this is one of the most beautiful places we’ve been to. Views where amazing, food was amazing and the staff where great! This place has the nicest most welcoming environment and needless to say we shall be returning. The best part of our stay there was that the owner allowed me propose there and helped us celebrate it which was really nice and made it even more special. If you are looking for a nice relaxing place to stay this is the place you want to be.

Our first visit to The Guesthouse was wonderful! We stayed in the Hobson Cabin, top floor. Gary and all staff were so welcoming and friendly, helping us to feel right at home. The views are gorgeous, and there is plenty to do on the property without needing to leave if you so choose. We played pool, watched a movie in the TV room, steamed in the sauna and overall just enjoyed the picturesque views The Guesthouse has to offer! Other guests we met were all very nice and welcoming as well, chatting and sharing things to do in the area. We hardly ran into people outside of the bar and restaurant area, which made it almost feel like we had the place to ourselves. The very best part is that my amazing boyfriend became my fiancé on the balcony overlooking the perfect mountain views! Gary was super excited for us and helped us celebrate well. We will never forget The Guesthouse and hope to return soon.

What's not to love about our favorite mountain retreat? Gary and Jesse are the consummate hosts, the staff is consistently delightful. We're always excited to see the latest updates and renovations. We stayed in Guesthouse, room 1 this visit. The guys have been busy refreshing this room with modern touches like sleek tile in the bathroom, new furnishings, and fresh paint and carpet all while keeping the rustic feel you'd expect in the WV mountains. The restaurant rivals any you might visit in major cities. The menu has a variety of dishes for all tastes from perfectly done steak to a roasted cauliflower steak. The chef has nightly specials that you should seriously consider when you visit.

The staff, accommodations, restaurant and surroundings could not be better. This is the perfect getaway spot in the mid-Atlantic region. I love it! The rooms are very comfortable with all the amenities you could wish for. Gary and Jesse have created the perfect spot for an event, an overnight stay, a meeting, a dinner party, or just a short visit. Don't forget to say hello to Sancho and bring him a treat!

We thoroughly enjoyed a weekend getaway at Guesthouse! From the moment we arrived we were warmly greeted and given a tour of the multiple spaces/amenities available to us. The rooms were clean and nicely upgraded. The photos with this review show Guestroom 1, which had a prime location on the property: GORGEOUS mountain views and near the guesthouse so it was easy to get to breakfast, drinks from the bar, dinner, the pool, everything. There are tons of hiking trails in the area, literally just a few minutes away. The property is definitely off the beaten path and in more treacherous weather, an AWD vehicle would probably be needed. On the topic of vehicles, we drove our EV to Guesthouse and needed to charge. The owners allowed us to plug in to a wall outlet (there is not Level 2 charging at this time). The pool and pool bar were the place to be! Emily at the bar was super cool and made us great drinks. I was a big fan of the Purple Rain and of course the Aperol Spritz. They also had drinks served in small buckets which were popular. Guesthouse had amazing live entertainment both nights we were there. One night was a local painter who created a piece from start to finish (think Bob Ross). The other night there was a musician who played guitar and sang. This is a wonderful gay-friendly destination just a couple hours from the DMV area!

I got to stop in for the first time last weekend and wish I had visited sooner! The hosts and service were very welcoming and filled with such great energy. The drinks were great and the Tina Burner show was a lot of fun!

We didn't stay this time but we stopped for lunch. The dining room was about to close and they made us feel very welcomed and we got lunch even though the dining room was officially closed. We sat on a beautiful patio. Everyone there was very nice. We will be back to stay for the weekend.

Excellent, relaxing weekend spent here. Gay friendly, great restaurant on-site, wonderful innkeepers. Go to relax with friends, read by the fire, play board or card games, or venture out for a hike. Don’t forget to stop in to visit the mini-mule Sancho! We’ll stay here again!

Guesthouse Lost River is a treasure. We had such a fantastic and relaxing time here, and our hosts were outstanding at making us feel at home. We made tons of new friends at the pool, and enjoyed a fabulous dinner at the restaurant every evening. We've already booked our next trip!

UPDATE: 4 years later, still the best of the best! This is a MUST for anyone's vacation or dining options. This was our first time visiting and, after less than 24hrs into our stay, we'd already booked our next visit! The owners are incredible, embodying the true spirit of hospitality. The cabin we stayed at was large, very comfortable, and clean with great views from the balcony. The lodge has a ton of cozy nooks and seating areas with fireplaces and a pool table, and the pool is spectacular with a connected hot tub. The restaurant serves deliciously inventive meals and the signature cocktails are expertly crafted. We can't wait to return to our new favorite destination to hang out at the pool and sip tasty cocktails on the patio under the stars!

Curbside take out was fast and efficient. The honey-siracha cauliflower, asian plum glazed salmon, and ravioli were delightful. The lemon-butteecream cake, however, was both too sweet and too dense.

Restaurant was Awesome. Staff was wonderful and very accommodating. Food was exceptionally fantastic. A hidden gem!!.

This is our 4th stay at the Guesthouse and it was during COVID-19 precautionary measures. While some amenities were not fully accessible, the owners and staff balanced safety and hospitality to make sure we were able to enjoy our stay while still staying safe. The vistas are amazing and the facilities are extremely clean and comfortable. Highly recommended.

Amazing, as usual. Jesse and Gary really put their hearts and souls into this place. The place is kept in to notch state. Everything is clean, beautiful and cared for. The restaurant serves delicious food - we had the duck appetizers, as well as the burata salad and the wings - all amazing. The chicken parm was also great and the creme Brule cheesecakes was a great take on both deserts. Can't wait to our next visit there

We have been going to the Guesthouse for over ten years. It's a great place to unplug and enjoy a bit of solitude. All meals can be obtained on site including fine dining. Spectacular views and comfortable lodging. And in times of COVID, we felt perfectly safe.

Exceeded my expectations! The owners were very hospitable and offered a tour of the property on arrival. Multiple shared spaces, including a pool and hot tub, to relax in. The room was rustic, very clean, and had a beautifully updated bathroom. Breakfast was included, which was a nice perk. We also ate dinner twice at the property which was excellent! The owners are very serious about COVID restrictions, which we appreciated. We look forward to returning!

Great place for a quiet getaway - incredible staff

Always a treat when in Lost River West Virginia. A little more than an hour from Washington DC it is such a great resort and restaurant. Great for families with an outdoor pool and couples for a retreat. Hospitality is their number one goal and they never fail to achieve it! Even in this age of CoViD19.

Very secluded, open forests and Appalachian foothills to distance oneself from others. Delicious buttermilk chicken thigh fried sandwiches. Chicken and brown eggs are locally raised 😋.

Phenomenal well kept secret nestled securely in the Eastern Appalachian foothills. Wonderful Inn and restaurant with adult beverages that will far exceed your fondest expectations. An easy 2 hour drive from the Washington DC metropolitan area. I highly recommend.

One word: BREATHTAKING! My husband and I went here for our wedding anniversary and we felt so welcomed. Gary and Jesse are so welcoming and receptive. The Guest House is absolutely amazing! You'll feel as though you're staying in as mansion! The entrees may be a bit pricey, but it's so very good! Go for the experience! We plan on going back this Summer.

Well maintained property. Not as friendly as previous stays. If you're an early riser, you'll go hungry as breakfast is not available before 9am unless you go to the Grill a few miles away. Service and food in dining room are just so-so; both are uninspired and limited. WiFi is spotty. For $200 a night, perhaps an upgrade to WiFi for those who want to surf/work in peace and quiet Current ownership doesn't inspire the community spirit of previous. Common area kitchen not stocked or cleaned as past standards maintained. Books and DVDs are now gone from the common TV room. Plenty of take aways, but nothing new added to the experience. Small fridge in the rooms wouldn't go amiss as the large one in the common are has been replaced by a dorm-sized model. Rooms looking a bit tired and need of a refresh.

It’s my first time at this resort and I cannot be more excited. Good service, clean, comfortable rooms. But the best part for me is the hot tub outside with absolutely unbelievable view, we spent most of the day yesterday in the tub, it was awesome. There is also heated pool next to the hot tub. Haven’t hit the game room yet, but definitely will later today.

A beautiful location to just get away and enjoy friends and family. Food was fantastic great flavors and melt in ur mouth scones!!! Call now and book a mountain escape!!!

Great food that feels like healthy but is a bit pricey based on the small portion size... Have a very nice pool nearby that's a flight of stairs away upstairs. Very great service and friendly waitress. LGBT FRIENDLY as well!

My fiancé and I just went to Guesthouse at the end of June 2019. This was our second visit to Guesthouse, but the owners, Gary and Jesse immediately remembered us. We stayed on the main level of the Hobson Cabin. It has a shared living room, kitchen, and covered porch. But we have our own entrance and recently remodeled bathroom. The dining at the restaurant is incredible. They have unique twists on dishes and everything I’ve had there has been great. The restaurant can be a bit pricy, but the complimentary breakfast helps balance the cost out to me. On Saturday we went hiking nearby at Tibbet Knob for breathtaking West Virginia views. We also spent a lot of time by the beautiful pool- which is a great pastime when coming during the summer months. We always love coming to Guesthouse and can’t wait to come back!

Great food, I especially would recommend trying the pork chops and I don't like pork chops. Allow a little extra time if you go as service was a bit slow. From what I could tell they seemed a bit understaffed and quite busy so I won't hold that against them. I'll visit again someday after I've worn off one of the most delicious pieces of cake I've every tasted.

Absolutely wonderful weekend getaway for my girlfriend and 10 of our close friends/family! Gary and Jessie are incredible men and amazing hosts. You will want for nothing during your stay, from written/printed directions to breakfast selections, you'll be quite satisfied. All of the staff is friendly and welcoming. Noah warmed my heart with his conversation and sharing his life's goals. The upgrades to the property are superb as is the family style breakfast. I can truly keep talking about this West Virginia gem all day........ if you're looking for a gateway this is your place!

Had an absolutely lovely time at the resort during the 4th of July weekend. Gary and Jesse are amazing hosts and the resort is absolutely beautiful. It is perfectly secluded so it's a great place if you're looking to REALLY get away from civilization. The food every night was so good, although the steak was a little overcooked and we did need to let our hosts know, unfortunately. That being said, there were new specials every night, with lots of vegan and gluten-free options if that's your thing. The drinks were also great and many of the cocktails were signature and they also change with the season. The atmosphere is great, the pool hours are generous and there is a poolside bar and there were so many other wonderful amenities like two game/social rooms, a 24 hour gym, and an indoor hot tub. Breakfast was also served family style every morning and it was absolutely delicious. Gary and Jesse even baked a cake for a member of our party because it was his birthday and it was enormous and a lovely gesture. My husband and I had a wonderful time and I hope we can make it back some time! Thank you Gary and Jesse for everything!

We visited here for a quick weekend getaway and were absolutely blown away. The resort is just bonkers beautiful and off the beaten path. There are places to get away where it's private and quiet but if you're looking for more of a lively scene there's areas for that as well. The food was incredible and the bar had a great and reasonably-priced selection. The owners are incredibly friendly and warm, we had never felt so welcome anywhere as we did when we stayed here. They are clearly so passionate about what they do. I cannot recommend it enough!

What a wonderful place to get away for the weekend. Gary & Jesse (the proprietors) are kind and knowledgeable. They greet you at the door and make you feel at home immediately. They have fantastic suggestions for activities in the area, and sights to see. Jesse gave us a great suggestion for a hike with beautiful views into West Virginia and Shenandoah (the Big Schloss Hike), a great and charming lunch spot for after a fun hike, and a wonderful vineyard to end the day at. Their expertise and friendliness made our weekend at the Guesthouse wonderful.The food is tasty, and the specials are definitely the way to go when ordering. I definitely will be back.

I've already been here twice and I will definitely come back with more friends. Each room or cottage is unique and full of character. We stayed in the Builtmore cottage which is the furthest from the lodge but not the least by far. Gary is so knowledgeable in local history and current events AND wine. Jesse is the most people friendly and happy host, he's very talented in describing the food selections and will leave your mouth watering for whatever specials they have at the time. They make the perfect host couple anybody can ask for. This paired with the excellent service staff they have surrounded themselves with make for a consistent hard hitter in getaway destination accommodations.

Thu Guest House at Lost River is a gem hidden in a beautiful, rural area of WV. It's a great place to get away for a weekend, enjoy the solitude of nature and the amenities of a resort. Gary and Jesse have created quite a treasure here.
