Hidden gem this place is amazing

Some of the best steak and eggs I've had in a very long time! I also got a piece of their blueberry banana bread. It was the closest I've had to my grandmother's! Drove almost an hour to get here based on good friends' recommendations. If I were closer, I would eat here at least three times a week!

After residing in the local area and exploring a myriad of states, savoring local cuisines and dining at numerous restaurants, I regretfully hadn't discovered Herbs until now. What a gem I've been missing! Friends visiting from Florida prompted the perfect occasion to seek out a stellar breakfast spot, and Herbs delivered an unforgettable experience. From the moment we stepped through the door, Dawn, our server, exemplified professionalism and warmth. Her welcoming demeanor set the tone for our visit, and she continued to impress throughout our meal. Truly, a rockstar in her field. I indulged in the Lox with sweet potato hash. The Benedict was executed flawlessly, and the house-made hollandaise was luxuriously rich and creamy. To top it all off, I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Herb himself, along with his daughter and son. They embody the essence of a loving and dedicated family. Herbs is an absolute must-visit, where the exceptional dining experience matches the superb cuisine. Thank you, Herb and family. I will undoubtedly return.

Stopped in for breakfast after the Phish show. Everything was amazing... So fresh, big portions. Great coffee. The people who work there are so nice and personable. Can't wait to go back the next time I'm in town!

Everything tastes better at Herb’s Restaurant. Today I had strawberry, blueberry, and cheese blintzes! Even my tea tastes better here!

We tried pancakes, super fluffy..., home fries, free from bacon fat...,pies, delicious..., grilled cheese, so good... and the iced tea, perfectly made. All portions were more than ample. Staff is super friendly and the the atmosphere is quaint and homey.

Hands down the second best breakfast I've ever had, and that's not an insult. My scrambled eggs were light and fluffy(as they should be ) my sausage gravy was great, but I wasn't a fan of the biscuit(was still good just not great)and the girlfriend was very pleased with her pastrami hash being not only tasty but prepared to her liking without her even having to say anything, we also both commented on the above average home fries. 8 out of 10 would go again anytime I'm in the area.

Everything was great. I was just shocked about the price an egg white omelette, two sausage and a coffee $28. I’ve been to a lot of breakfast place and I live in the city. Not sure if I agree with the price other than that food was delicious.

Great food and staff. The atmosphere is great and is a very busy place. I just would like that their skillet wouldn’t be a surprise that you only know when you get it, that’s why I decided to go with a Classic instead. Home fries is delicious, so their special breads.

This is one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had ever anywhere. It’s a must if you’re in the area. Family owned and operated since 1974. Great atmosphere and the service is incredible. Everybody was so nice and kind and efficient. If you’re visiting Mohegan Sun, it’s a 7 minute drive. Everything about it is awesome. Can’t recommend enough. Go. Thank me later.

Best breakfast in connecticut! Everything you could think of on the menu plus more! You don't even need the menu the specials are to die for! And the service outstanding! Be prepared to wait in line on the holidays because everyone wants to go there.

Went here on Mothers Day. The food was very good. The service was great. If I lived in the area, I would go back.

Way overpriced for what you get. A mediocre, soggy Reuben sandwich with a few tablespoons of Cole Slaw & 2 Pickle spears to go....$22. Slaw wasn't bad actually, but they should advertise their Pickles as "Aunt B's Pickles" (watch the Andy Griffith episode, "The Pickle Story"). With no exaggeration, the absolute worst pickle I have ever had in my nearly 67 years. Not fit for consumption. I took one bite, threw the rest away.

Had such a lovely experience here. Food was great and customer service excellent- everyone greeted you with a smile. Had a nice small town feel to it. Would come back again!

Absolutely lovely service and delicious food. The home fries and french toast were a particular standout, and the service and hospitality were absolutely wonderful.

In a world where service is falling flat these days, Herbs takes it to the next level. Monique is a legit national treasure. You can tell she just loves her job and where she works. The ambiance is so cozy, you feel an at home atmosphere. Had the western on a croissant which was delicious. Cheers to asking if I wanted my corned beef hash crispy! Best way to have it. This small unassuming place is an absolute hidden gem we will be coming back to and recommending to friends.

Not to be missed. Exceptional food with kind, warm service. Thank you for taking such good care of us!! Recommend the scram n kielbasa, potato pancakes, and blueberry banana bread. But you can’t go wrong!

Phenomenal! My husband and I first time here. The feta omelet was amazing and he devoured his hash Benedict. Our new favorite breakfast spot!

What a delicious surprise awaited us at our first visit to Herb's! We arrived after 1 pm on Sunday and it was still crowded but we were seated without much of a wait. The corned beef hash, poached eggs, hash browns and pumpernickel toast were incredible and make my mouth water just to write about them. Husband had "big man's breakfast" and he loved every bit. Wish they didn't charge so much for a bit of real maple syrup. Seriously folks, $3.95? You want to be known for delivering quality tasty food, why nickel and dime your patrons?

Hadn't been here since high school hasn't changed. We had a great meal with great atmosphere. Very busy. Will be back.

Cute little mom n pop restaurant. The food was delicious and the staff was so friendly and helpful. They also have a little shop area where you can buy pies to take with you.

I don’t think I have had this great of an experience going out in years. The food was delicious, the staff was extremely friendly and attentive, and they went out of their way to make this space feel like home. I will definitely be coming back, there’s lots more to try on the menu 😋 P.s. the banana blueberry bread was out of this world!

Outstanding service, above and beyond, although the menu wasn't exotic, it was fresh and tasty. I'm not a big fan of PUMPKIN, but their pumpkin bread was the best I have ever tasted, and it's served Hot! Yummy! Don't pass it up if they are not sold out!

We stopped at Herb's on our way through town and WOW!!! The smoked salmon benedict was fabulous. The sweet potato hash and the pastrami hash were both amazing. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is cozy, and the food is unmatched.

Herbs is a all time favorite. The staff is always friendly and the food is always good. I get the skillet surprise, which is biscuits and gravy with an omelette on top. The smokey hot sauce is 🔥!!

I ordered the reuben,it came with crinkle french fries. It was just an average sandwich. For $19.95 I was not impressed.

Old country style dining spot with a HUGE fanbase. The place was jam packed! Honestly, I almost left as there was no parking - But decided to stay based on recommendations. I sat at the counter-top which was not what I'd wanted; however I was in a rush and decided to just go with the flow. I had the Pastrami Hash with Potatoes which was not bad; it was different - the potatoes were delicious though. I had a sample of the blueberry banana bread which was PHENOMENAL - So I'd grab that if they have it when you're there. Pleasant experience, I'd return when touring in the area.

I have been coming to herbs since I was probably about 5. I always choose it for a weekend breakfast and now bring my family as well but can’t wrap my mind around 2 slices of pumpkin bread and two small turkey sausage patties for 26.45 before tax. Literally 2 slices of pumpkin bread. That’s how much just one persons breakfast was this am. With two drinks, tax and a tip it was 40.00 for one person to have breakfast/lunch and the two of us to each have a drink. For the cost of this you can go out to old saybrook and have a full upscale buffet on the water where they slice meat to order, have a waffle bar, omelette station seafood on ice. It’s just feels a little bit crazy to me.

Amazing locally sourced ingredients and food, make sure to get some pie, the Pumpkin Chiffon is by far my favorite so far but you can't go wrong with most choices. The servers and staff are friendly and the country store next door has some great stuff as well. A diner that is a cut above the rest. With 2 entrees, 2 side orders of meat, and 2 peices of pie you are looking at around $60, so a good price as well.

Roast beef!!!! And their special homemade potato salad! What a combo! So fresh so delicious. While I waited for it to be made I went next door to their country store. Finally found carrots with their tops still on. Trying to get grandson to eat more vegys so I hope if he pulls them out of the ground himself he will be excited to try them? Will let you know!

Herb's has a great variety of food and daily specials. I highly recommend it to everyone.

I love the peach stuffed peacan french toast! And i like that if you can't eat the whole french toast, you can order half of it.

Food, service, atmosphere all incredible. If you're at Mohegan sun and need breakfast this is the place to go. If you have the opportunity to say hello to Herb, he is a living legend with some amazing stories.

I’ve been to my fair share of Diners in my life and this will be in my Top 3 diners that I have ever ever been tooZ Excellent service, place literally feels like home in the 80’s and I would love to come back. I judge Diners by how their coffee is and how it’s served. Coffee is amazing and they serve it to you in those thick Mugs that all diners should be using, and I knew the food would be good. BUT As soon as my fiancé and I sat down we were handed fresh Blueberry Banana Bread and that alone made my mind up that this small place was going to be a hit. Their breakfast meal was phenomenal and their home fries were absolutely amazing. Loved this place. Oh just as a fyi they are closed Mondays / Tuesdays if you are looking to go!

What a fun and tasty find. Traveling thru the area and found it on a search. Busy Saturday morning and was seated in less than 5 minutes. The owner is walking around asking if everything is good and chatting. Went way over my calorie plan and ordered the Mac & Cheese omelette. I had never seen that before. Imagine for a minute a light egg wrap around warm and creamy Mac & cheese. So savory and the egg really steps back from the Mac and gives a whole delicious creamy mac and cheese experience. The breakfast plates going by us all looked great and people seemed so happy at their experience. I have to say, I have never seen so many egg bennies being served and they looked amazing. Another unique item was the pastrami hash, I ordered a half order and I'm glad I did. Super yummy. The service was fast and friendly and I look forward to coming back to try lunch soon. Price was very reasonable for the amount of food and great service.

I love coming here to eat with family and friends. I don't live in the area anymore but if I ever end up that way, I make sure to order Togo breakfast that's always hot and delicious!

Best breakfast i've had in a long time and the owners, the sister runs the restaurant and the brother the General store are both extremely nice people, not to mention everyone else who works there. Sunday was the first time my wife and I were there, we just heard about it the week before, and it's about a hour and fifteen minute ride but it's worth the ride and we'll definitely be going back. Looking forward to the car show there on October 8th.

Wow, this is a great little gem of a restaurant. Very busy ,glad I called ahead to put my name on the waitlist. The food was great, the servers are exceptional they all work as a team. We really enjoyed the coffee and asked what brand it was, so Elle ( the owner) came to our table told us the brand. I asked if I could buy some and she sold me a case from her stock. I will be a regular customer here every time we come to Connecticut.. . Highly recommended Herb’s deli.

It is an institution. Always great food, the signature pastrami hash, omelets, and delicious daily specials! Never had a bad meal here in over 40 years of breakfasts!

Worse breakfast ever, ordered pancakes, they came out very thin, more like a crepe + burnt but cook hide that by putting burnt side down. Could not cut through pancakes with butter knife. Use to love Herbs, be awhile before I try that again.

Great food and the staff was helpful and friendly! Good coffee too. Excellent menu and happy people make Herb's a standout! Amazing all around! Give one of their homemade breads a try. You won't be disappointed. I'd definitely be a regular if we lived in the area.

If you like small town diner, this is the place for you. The staff is friendly; it’s clear they are happy to be there to serve customers and that makes a HUGE difference in the overall atmosphere. Every single item on the menu I have tried is incredibly delicious. Highly recommend.

Seating seemed like it was going to be a very long wait but was moving rather smoothly. Very busy and crowded but once we got the food we realized why! Great food and great service!!

Had an amazing time here back in November when my Husband and i visited Connecticut for our wedding. He has dined there before and my sister in law Margie and Laurie visit often. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to meet Herb during over visit but maybe next time I will. Reminds me of back home in Delaware. Make sure to stop over to the store next door to the restaurant!

I was introduced to Herb's Diner by my daughter. She brought me two days after Christmas 2022. What wonderful experience. It's a warmth of family, heritage, and community all in one. I absolutely loved my croissant 🥐 and pattie sausage, egg and cheese sandwich. Every single bit was FRESH, DELECTABLE, DELICIOUS 😋. The hash brown potatoes were FRESH with fresh cut rosemary, parsley. I can tell you because I tasted each and every ingredient. It was nongreasy, and wholesome. If there is a line to get in, I advise you to WAIT. Because it's worth the wait for many reasons but I will give you just three.😋 Outstanding service (you feel the warmth) Outstanding Food Choices (hope you don't 🤤 drool) Outstanding flavored food that is cooked with 😍LOVE. Food is delicious and unique. Staff is very friendly and engaging even though they are understaffed.

The staff is wonderful. Hard workers. My only disappointment was they added raw red onions to my omelet and it killed it for me. So a week later when I went with my dad I specified saute the onions first and it was a much better omelet. The coffee is great, food is great. Definitely recommend it. Just remember if you don't like raw onions, have them saute them ! :)

Food was taking a little long to come out as technical and staffing issues were going on in the kitchen, as per our waitress. But she gave us 2 pieces of pie on the house to make up for it. Frankly there was no need because the food was delicious and worth the wait.

A friend and I have breakfast there every Sunday. Food is great and they have a ton of specials. I also purchase fresh baked blueberry and banana bread every week. Can't say enough good things about this place. The food, service atmosphere and prices are right on point!! Holey smokes. That was hands down the best meal i've had in 15 years. Norwich doesn't have much in the way of sandwich shops, or so i've said since moving here in '07...but that pastrami sammich these folks grilled for me this afternoon was incredible. truly sublime. Sorry, i haven't been excited about food in awhile abd it's all coming rushing out now. Cute little place too, friendly staff and it was faster than i expected. A bit pricey but hey, what isn't these days. I'd have paid twice that had I known how good it was gonna be!
