Everything was delicious that I tasted. Got a catfish dinner with macaroni and cheese and greens for my dad. I recommend this place if you want good soul food.

Came in an hour before closing they did not rush and everything was great

We arrived at approximately 5:00pm, We did not have to wait to be seated. The food was absolutely positively delicious. I had the catfish dinner with green beans and creamy mac&cheese. Portion sizes were great. I will definitely return the next time I’m in Indiana. I was taken there for dinner by a friend as I am visiting Indiana, I live in Lansing, Michigan.

While in Indianapolis for a funeral, my sister & I visited His Place. My cousins live there but this was their first visit too.I had fried chicken, collard greens macaroni & cheese…STOP! Those greens deserve a 👏🏽 👏🏽👏🏽. The chicken was piping hot, juicy and quite tasty. The Mac & Cheese was just okay. I tasted my cousins sweet potatoes..Wow! Truly, one of the best versions I’ve ever tasted. Will I go back? Yes, again and again! Next time I’ll get the fried perch ( my sister loved it) collards and sweet potatoes. Oh, nice atmosphere too. This is THE BEST bbd you will ever have. The turkey was smoked to perfection and was very moist. The green are INCREDIBLE. Makella was awesome, helpful, and what a nice smile.

The food was bomb !!! I had the churros waffles and chicken and I loved it. Staff is also very polite and nice.

There for my Birthday Dinner party of 6 everybody was please with the food and service, the owner came around greeting the customers chatting very friendly along with the staff, I went earlier in the day for carry out, young man asked if it was my first time went I said yes he took time out to go over the menu very helpful came back any enjoy my dinner with my family! When you walk through the door you are greeted by friendly workers The atmosphere and cleanliness is great for the business that they do. That was very satisfied with the food and the portion that you get leave enough for you to take home for later. You know I will be going back I had the catfish please and dressing all of it was exceptional.

They never let me down, it doesn’t matter what I eat from here it’s always good & fresh. Dine in or takeout they do not miss.

Okay I haven’t been back to his place after that disappointing meal that I spent 40.00 bucks on! Very disappointing. So I refuse to go back. My brother went to his place on ditch road to get our dad something for dinner. He got cabbage and pork chops. I asked my dad how did he like his food and he said he didn’t care for the cabbage. And that the pork chops were tough. Now my dad is from the south so he knows good food. And my friend said give them another chance but, after my dad said he didn’t like his I was like that’s it! And what got me is I left a complaint not trying to be negative. Just give some constructive criticism and they didn’t even call me back. Now if that had been a white establishment they would have called me back and tried to FIX it. Cause they see the importance of making it right and that away you know they care. I didn’t want him to replace my meal I just wanted him to know so they can go easy on the SALT! Cause I asked somebody else what did they think of the food and they said it was very disappointing and salty.

After meeting the owner for an interview today I will never spend a dollar here. I have never felt so disappointed and disrespected during an interview. Not only did the owner keep me waiting 40 mins. He joked and put down my 13 years of experience. My schooling. And judged my by a piece of paper. I can't imagine what that work environment is like. The counter boys were snackling and talking about women. All out unprofessional and I am disappointed in such a stable being owned by such a character. Who instead of seeing the pride behind my culinary adventures he decided to put it down. Like he's any better than anyone? Simply will not receive anymore my business anymore based off this alone. I am not saying this as someone who just simply did not get a Job This is someone who came in excited to work for a small scale growning local business *like I have before* and got disrespected. To the point I do not want a job. He brought up management even. Why bring up management 10 mins after putting my skill set down?? He has a chip on his shoulder and you can see it a mile away

Well where to start you walk in and get mugged by an ugly lady for one so dine in is outta the question yuck. Then most girls working here are walking around looking lost but more friendly than the ugly lady. Then when you order your food they ask for a tip 😆 for what standing here doing your job no way buddy . Then they make you wait outside just dumb as hell then the wait was 45 minutes for just 2 orders 2 ORDERS one side each no text no call no speaker nothing so basically 50$ for rude unprofessional service and 2 orders yuck 🤢🤮 I will not be back too many soul food spots that show and conduct they business well in this city don't waste your time most reviews are paid for there promotion not real customers just sad .

I've eaten here a couple times, really lovely staff and the food is just like your grandma used to make but better. Probably my favorite soul food in the city.

We were here from out of town. The service and food was excellent. They were busy but we still were able to sit immediately and didn’t have to wait long for food. Our waitress was amazing all the staff had wonderful customer service. We will definitely be back when we come back to visit.

His Place at 86th Ditch has been opened a short time (maybe two weeks) the place was busy but not loud! Our server Keith was super nice, everyone was. The owner/chef stopped by everyone’s table to check to see if you were happy. A personal touch that is very missed by chain restaurants. My friend has been here 3x since they opened! Now I know why. Very much soul food and home cooking. Nothing needs seasoning at all. Taste the food before you pick up salt pepper hot sauce or tartar sauce. The greens may have been a tad over seasoned. Definitely not bland. I will be back soon. I will send my friends because I felt genuinely comfortable and appreciated. Just what this city needed ♥️😇💙

This place was packed, but that's expected during the midday hours. As soon as my folks and I stepped inside the doors, the aroma of this restaurant overwhelmed me in a good way. I ordered a smoked brisket with cornbread and sides of candied yams and macaroni and cheese; I also ordered banana pudding for dessert. The candied yams and collard greens (someone else's order) were on point. The smoked brisket was okay; I only wish there was more meat for it. The banana pudding was okay as well. The major flaw, in my opinion, was the macaroni and cheese as it seemed and tasted soupy; It looked baked on the advertisement. Then again, I don't understand how things are done in various places. This was my first time at the new Northside location at 86th and Ditch Rd. LISTEN, the food was so wonderful! I had the perch and pork chop with collard greens and dressing. My man had the chicken wings and catfish with Mac and cheese and sweet potatoes. Omg, great portion sizes. The staff was friendly and the owner came out to speak with all the patrons. Very affordable, clean, great vibe, I will be back!

Over the road for a living so I don't get much of a chance to do my own cooking like I really want to, so to be able to come here for some good soul food cooking was a real treat! My Driver Success Manager took the time to find this gem for my preferences for our meeting and I couldn't be happier. Everyone from my waitress to the other team members offered that southern hospitality not often practiced this way. The food was so good, it made me miss home...

My daughter and I visited His Place 4 months ago food was delicious, service pleasant, very inviting staff .I placed an order for pick-up today that went smooth but when I got home I began to taste the dressing and it tasted sweet not a taste like we enjoyed on our previous visit .The taste was so close to my mom's RIP I wanted to cry from memories maybe this visit someone missed the mark or used sweet cornbread mix . But I still love you guys and you definitely get plenty of food...

There was a 45 minute wait, and it was in your car. The food was much better than I remember a few years back. I ordered the red velvet chicken and waffles, corn and greens . Corn was cold but delicious. Greens were above average and the chicken was crispy and hot. The waffle was yummy! They provided syrup but with the glaze it didn’t need much if any. Wasn’t overly sweet. About $30 for mine alone and I ordered water for the drink… my preference… my drinks are under $5. Definitely recommend! We went around 5pm on a Saturday… so maybe the weekday might not be so busy just be sure to check the times as they differ on different days! Enjoy, I did!

The atmosphere was great.The food was good, all but the dressing.And,another table complained about the taste of the string beans,and the manager quickly addressed the issue.Macoroni was okay.The peach cobbler the best I've ever had at a restaurant in a long time.Greens excellant,cornbread good,chicken was regular ,but that fish was delightful,well coated and seasoned to perfection.The serving waitress was good and friendly.However,this other waitress kept going past looking in our face and staring and giggling purposefully that was a little weird experience because I'm not from the area or city.The parking is okay.The table was clean,atmosphere was good and business was booming.Remember get that peach cobbler,greens and fish you will not be disappointed. Also,has fresh tomatoes and onions available.

The food is pretty darn good, but they are way too heavy handed with the sugar in the cobbler, and yams. Also, the take out order system makes no sense. You send a food is ready text yet 7 of us were all waiting to quite a bit to get our food after having received the text. Organized chaos.

My experience is not worthy of 1 star. I ordered the turkey manhattan, and it came to my table with whole uncooked potatoes covered with gravy. It was a disaster. So needless to I will NEVER eat there again! Trust me 1 star is too much.

I drive from Ohio once every summer and take my kids to the Children's Museum and try a different restaurant every time I'm in Indianapolis. Fam..... when I tell you His place is without a doubt thee Best restaurant I've been too in Indy and one of the best restaurants I've ever been too period... I tell no lies. I'm pretty well traveled, been to 46 states and 11 different countries. I've tried food everywhere and His place IS IT. Makayla, our waitress, was fantastic and patient with my kids. The girls had the fried chicken and Mac n' cheese and I had the ribs with a piece of catfish. EVERYTHING SLAPPED, even my Uptown (sweet tea and lemonade) was on point. The kitchen clearly loves what they do and the employees work together well. They have a great system in place, which sadly is usually a big issue in 'our' restaurants. I have not one bad thing to say about my experience at His place. I would have liked some music playing a little louder, but that's a personal preference. I'd drive 2 hours back to Indy just for this Restaurant. Keep it up His place and Thank you for a fabulous experience!! Makayla C. for president 2024!!! Lol

Every experience is wonderful. Always friendly and knowledgeable. Sondra is always on point, smiling and ready to help me. All the food is hot, delicious, and made with lots of love 🥰. Very good food. Brisket = 5 of 5 Pulled pork = 4 of 5 Baked beans = 3 of 5 Greens = 5 of 5 I'll never go for lunch again. I didn't want to do anything else for the day. Too much food. Lol! Bbq sauce could use a little work. Maybe a bit of heat would be great.

The food was not as I've had it before. The greens were very salty so I wasn't able to enjoy. I ordered my food as takeout, I was going to take it back but just decided that I will not go back because that's not the first time they were salty and it taste as if they added sugar...yuck. the sweet potatoes were extremely sweet... I'm not spending $40 for a meal and can't enjoy it!! The ladies are awesome, great customer service!

This is my second review of this wonderful establishment. Ate here last year during Indy 500 weekend and had to come back. Excellent food and friendly staff. Any meal will serve two easily. Huge portions. This year I had fried pork chops, collard greens, smoked cream corn and sweet cornbread! All wonderful, hot, and tasty!

We had a wait, but we didn't wait longer than they said, 20 minutes. We were seated fairly quickly and our server was the best. She was attentive and kind. Our food came out much quicker than I expected because the restaurant was packed! I got the chicken & waffles. The chicken was well seasoned and the waffle was tasty too. Check out was simple & quick. I would definitely dine here again.

When you think comfort food, this is what you mean!! The food was great, service was fast and the food hot. After finishing the food, the naps were imminent. If you're in the area or got a Jones for good food , come here.

It does not get any better than the red velvet waffle and chicken or the lights out collard greens. And that turkey manhattan is a "last meal" selection.

I loved the down home experience. The food was amazingly soulful and well prepared with attention to taste and detail. Somebody's grandmother must be running things back in the kitchen. Really, though the chef has an well trained staff would are very polite and professional. I loved the experience! You could tell they are like a well oiled machine, because on Mother's Day they gave superb service with a smile even though they were swamped. I'll be their cheerleader any day!

Although I normally have nothing but good things to say about this place. The food is amazing however, the experience that I had today is now going to have me no longer returning to this establishment. So I attempted to place an online order an hour before closing.Yes, I understand it is Mother's Day.However my son decided to buy my self and my mother dinner. After twenty minutes of attempting to order through two different sites online with no success. I finally called the restaurant. I called the restaurant at 528pm was on Hold for 3 minutes before someone picked up now. At this time, it is 531 I was advised that i could not place a to go order over the phone after 5:30 due to a being 30 minutes before closing. I did make the lady aware that I had been on hold prior to 530. That didn't matter. She told me that I would need to step in to place an order. I advised her that if my son came up there now he would be there 10 minutes before closing and I asked If he would still be able to place the order? She stated yes, I said okay. I'm sending him up there to place the order. My son arrived there 10 minutes before closing. And was advise that it was too late for him to place an order. Due to them closing in 10 minutes. He calls me from the parking lot. So I called the restaurant the same lady answered and I asked her. Why would you tell me he can come up there? Just for him to be turned away. She apologized and said I'm not sure who did it, but tell him to step in and he can notify me when he's in the restaurant who turned him away cause he made it in before 6 o'clock, so he should be able to place the order. So my son attempts to go back in at this point. It is now 6 o'clock. The door is locked and he is told that it is too late for him to place an order. I of course left a voicemail on their phones. Because now nobody is picking up. I did receive a return call from the manager who apologized for the inconvenience in who stated that it was a misunderstanding because she was not made aware that he was approved to come in and make a to go order. And was offered a $25 gift card, again It's Mother's Day does us no good because now. Although my mom wanted Texas Roadhouse, which at the time as I stated, the food and his place eatery was better than Texas Roadhouse. So we selected them now. We have to wait 2 hours in order to get anything from Texas Roadhouse. Absolutely Disappointed in the customer service and a $25 gift card does not make up for the fact that I plan on not returning. I spend my money only where I am treated correctly. So now I will look for another soul food restaurant on the East Side of town Because I do not plan to return there for $25 gift card.

Cashier was nice and went through my order before I left to make sure it was accurate. They were out of banana pudding which sucks because that was the main thing I wanted but I got the fried chicken (white meat) dinner and it was good. The greens were spicy as hell though.

The food is delicious. They have an efficient kitchen. I can call in an order, drive down the street and it's ready to go. I also like that they review your order with you to make sure you have the right thing. Nothing worse than getting home and getting somebody else's order. That's happened at other restaurants.

Dining in this restaurant in Indianapolis Southern cooking very good eating very good hospitality I believe I met the owner if there was 10 star I give it the whole 10 I recommend it to anyone that's traveling I need a good meal not only a good meal even a side dish to go

I would have to say I wasn't to satisfied,The Greens a bit to salty, it was to cold inside and the Banana pudding was not to good, it had cookies but the bananas was dark the few I could see, pudding mix 😥. Dissatisfied. Fish and Mac/chez okay.

I went to visit my Mom and family in Indianapolis. I’ve been to “His Place” only one other occasion many years ago. It’s a small place but cozy, nothing fancy. Just the bare minimum of tables and chairs, which is fine. I ordered a fried pork chop and and and fried chicken wing, some type of cream corn (ate only a few spoons, not my taste), and potato salad (too sweet). I also tasted my wife smoked meatloaf (we did not care for), hee dressing was amazing, my son’s chicken and waffles were superb as well. The server noticed that I barely touched my corn and offered to replace them without me saying a word. I thought that was very commendable. I ordered some banana pudding and it was awesome. My pork chop and chicken was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Overall, it was a great down home cooking experience. Oh! You must try the collard greens! Yum! Even though I discovered some menu items not to my taste, I would highly recommend this establishment because I’m sure they will have many other dishes or even tge ones I tasted to your liking. One more thing, get some candied yams. His Place is a great place to dine or take out.

Been here a couple times usually, the food is really good. However, today it was not brisket was extremely cold and pretty much nothing but fat ribs were cold. You can tell they were just left out for a Long time after cooking mashed potatoes were cold only thing hot was the green beans and they were literally so hot. You couldn’t eat them. Don’t know what happened, but I don’t know if I’ll be back.

The food, the atmosphere, the service, and the prices were all on point. The only thing I could say that is upsetting about his place is that it's too far from my house. I will absolutely be dining here again and again whenever I have the opportunity. You won't be upset choosing to dine here.

Great service but honestly, I disliked the food

I haven't been to His Place in forever, because I'm a Westsider, but I was hanging out with my Dad & decided to go someplace that he'd like.. & since I hear they're adding a new location that's closer to me (86th & Ditch) , I figured why not refamiliarize myself with their menu? My diet has changed a bit since the last time I was there so I had my mind set on the fish options. As expected, it did not disappoint.. I can't wait til they open the new location so I don't have to wait as long to try them again.. 😋

Everything was good just wish the portion size of the meats that we got were bigger(porkchops,chicken breast & fish sizes were a bit small over good Soul Food.

I ordered carryout and I wasn't a huge fan of the meal. The mashed potatoes have so much of the skins in them, there was only about half serving of actual potatoes which were not impressive. Not buttery or creamy at all, but the gravy on them was a big save and it was delicious. The Mac and cheese was downright not good. Did I get a bad batch or something? The cheese tasted sour, I had one bite and threw the remainder away. Fried chicken was fantastic. Well seasoned and crispy, I could have eaten 5 more pieces. Next time I will try something different or get the fried chicken with different sides.
