Don’t let the location fool you! I ordered takeout here, and somehow managed to order everything except a Japanese dish. I can be a bit picky after growing up in japan, but let me tell you… even just the side salad made my day! The dressing on it took me back!! I’m excited to try more of their food, I’m very pleased.

I regret not coming to this place sooner. A very great experience from my starter drink to the dessert. Great anniversary dinner, the soft shell carb was delicious and the cruise boat was a great way to try all types of fish.

We had been to the restaurant yesterday for dinner. What a pathetic restaurant and specially the service. We ordered 4 items..nothing very exotic...it took 1hr 46min precisely to deliver to our table that too when we asked them repeatedly. THis is probably the first restaurant where we had to ask for speeding up. All the service person told us, sorry it took us time to get this ready. What a mistake on our part to visit the restaurant.

Service was fine. Food OK. The udon was good. Tempura was nicely fried. Salad had too much dressing. Sushi pizza had too much sauce. Ahi quality OK.

Favorite sushi in greater Bangor area!!. Although, a return trip today. My wife ordered a ginger salad. They brought it out without chopsticks or fork. Brought sushi out, no utensils again, and no napkins. Brought check before asking how we were doing as they asked did we need anything else. Meanwhile, a younger sushi chef was talking about women and relationships,which tore apart the atmosphere. I Hate leaving bad reviews, especially at one of my favorite places. But when the host/server cared more about talking to his co workers instead of taking care of the clientele, this needs to be addressed. Sorry 😞

I have been eating here for the past couple of years and the food is always just as beautiful and delicious as the time before. They are consistently amazing! As a constant traveler for my work, i have not had the pleasure of finding cuisine this delicious , even in Boston. You wont be disappointed.

Wont be coming back. Online order was 20 minutes behind schedule without a phone call. Requested tip to be removed and had employee give attitude and throw my credit card back at me after providing receipt.

Never eaten here, never going to. Rude to DoorDashers. Literally won’t let them just wait for their super late orders inside the restaurant like a human being. I was made to go out to my car, like I’m not worthy of being inside. Booooo. I’ve never experienced this anywhere and it was not crowded at all it was essentially empty and they weren’t busy.

The udon is not as good as I expected. They putted the udon in to miso soup. It had no taste at all. They fried two shrimps, two pieces of onion, broccoli, two sliced carrot and sweet potatoes. It was not worth $17.99.

Amazing quality, fresh ingredients, friendly staff.

The hostess welcomed us with wonderful warmth and hospitality, knowing that we are both deaf. I used my iPhone notepad to communicate our order, and it was smooth and seamless. Ichiban passes with flying colors for being deaf-friendly, and I left a wonderful tip for this business that accommodates the deaf community. The food are fresh and top notch high quality! ❤️🤟

Sleeper sushi hit! Decided we randomly wanted sushi for lunch and this little hole in the wall was such a great call. Volcano roll definitely brought the heat and actually looked like a volcano! Wish I'd taken a picture but was hungry.

I always order all my Japanese take out from here. A absolute must if you enjoy authentic Japanese food. So this is an additional review after 3 years I have found myself to be addicted to this place. I now come so often they know and greet me by first name. A definite hidden gem in Bangor. We first found this place when we were visiting while looking for a home to purchase in the state. Coming from the west coast, it was important to us to find a good Japanese restaurant with good sushi and we were not disappointed. It’s been several years now and we still make it a point to eat here whenever we have a chance. The food is always fresh and tasty and the service is great. It is a place where my entire family can find several things they like and no one goes home hungry.

Best sushi in Bangor bar none, might even be the best I’ve had since I moved to Maine! The rolls are huge and very reasonably priced, you get basically double for your money here. Amazing quality, fresh ingredients, friendly staff, very experienced chefs, and a huge menu of delicious Japanese food as well as countless rolls of sushi to choose from.

Always love this place, a definite go to when I want sushi. I LOVE that they offer Temaki! I haven't even seen a sushi place offer Temaki other than when I was in Italy. The service is always great, the people who run Ichiban are friendly and do their jobs well. One of my top recommendations for places to eat around here!

Great place to eat after arriving in Bangor and before heading out to Acadia National Park / Bar Harbor area. Would highly recommend trying the ichiban dinner box. You can pick two mains and it comes with soup, salad and fruits - a full meal. For mains, you can't go wrong with chicken teriyaki or shrimp tempura. The pork katsu and sashimi are also nice.

The textures paired with the flavors was heaven to me. The pork katsu in the katsu don was light and perfectly crunchy. The Spicy salmon hand roll was delicious as well. The miso soup and the house salad were pleasant to the taste buds and my stomach. One of us in our party was gluten free(celiac) and they even asked us if we were okay with msg in the food. I have NEVER been to a restaurant and they asked about msg. The atmosphere was relaxing during our meal and staff was a joy to speak with and be served by. 20/10 would go again when we visit Bangor. It's even right down the street from Wildwoods!

Had the teriyaki chicken bento box. Chicken tasted like it had been in the fridge for days, then reheated. Spit it out. Let them know and they asked me if it was hot when it arrived. That wasn't the point. They made no effort to resolve. Not going there again.

Beat sushi in Bangor! Run by a bunch of very nice people. Very extensive menu and friendly service, but the disconnect between the kitchen and sushi bar seemed pretty dysfunctional. Great selection of sushis and Japanese entrees.

The Pad Thai is just noodles with sauce and chopped peanuts.Thecterriyaki chicken was drowned in sauce and bland.Not worth the stop.They maybe Asian but clearly don't know how to cook or just skimping on ingredients to make the food taste good.

Great sushi and great service. Every roll and sashimi I had was delicious! I especially liked the presentation of the roll that looked like a little caterpillar!

Everything was very good, this is the first place where I actually enjoyed the mackerel. We inadvertently ordered way too much food, but it was totally worth the splurge.

Don't let the unassuming facade fool you. This modest eatery tucked in a strip next to a Dollar store boasts the best sushi I've had in years. The inside is tastefully decorated and the tables nicely spaced. The service is fast and friendly and the menu extremely extensive. Lots of sushi and sashimi offerings but also other Asian specialties. A friend and I shared two rolls, a salad or two, crab rangoons and tuna and salmon sashimi and everything was fresh, delicious and expertly prepared. Hot green tea and a cucumber martini accompanied our meal. I'm thrilled to find such high quality sushi right here in Bangor.

Very slow service. People that came in 10 minutes after us were given the drinks and meals before we were. Waited over 15 minutes for the check and boxes. Will not go back.

Very over priced food. I waited for about 20 mins before she noticed I was there. The young waitress didn't seem to be trained very well. The food is good but very over priced for rice & noodles.

Yum! I have never dined here before and it was a very pleasant experience. The staff was very kind, and everything looked so clean and organized. When the food came out everything looked beautiful and was delicious. I can't wait to come back!

March 6, 2022 My review of the Ichican Restaurant is not about its food; my review is about that very kind Chinese female that spent many minutes this afternoon trying to get a Taxi for my disabled neighbour.. She made at least a few calls. She and Walter and those other kind persons there are lovely individuals. I used to live in China. They're so good!

Best sushi in the area, no question.

Born and raised in Bangor, and grew up on a kibbutz...wish I had a mai thai may stop in a few days from now.

Walter and Lu are incredible people. They know my order, remember my name, and their Sushi is hands down the best in the Bangor area. The rolls are tight, the fish is clearly fresh, the other ingredients are flavorful, and it's obvious that it's an art to them. My favorite rolls are the Honolulu, Hollywood, Smoked salmon, Tiger, Rainbow, and of course- Philly. You will not be disappointed if it's your first time trying Ichiban!

I was a regular customer of this restaurant until today. As someone who they know personally and who spends over $100 on take-out and tip for a pick up, I am thoroughly disgusted and will NEVER order from here again! Being from Manhattan and having lived all over the US and in London, as well as being a private professional chef, I think I can tell you honestly that the inconsistency here outrageous! 6 orders of yellowtail sashimi that are usually large beautiful pieces today were mere shrivels of fish! Tiny bites, child size. The miso was awful and had to be thrown down the drain and the salmon sushi was fishy. HORRIBLE! When I called to complain I received no restitution at all, just rudeness. I WARN YOU NOT TO EAT HERE! You will not be happy whatsoever. It was quite disconcerting and I want everyone to know what kind of people are running this place! NEVER would this happen in NYC! NEVER!

One of the best places around for sushi! It's 3.5 hours from where I live, so I don't get to go here as much as I would like at the moment, but each time I've gone so far the food is great and the staff are friendly.

Curiosity and not wanting to cook led me to go in,as well as it being close by. Seems to be aligned with a sushi predominance, which is ok. You are asked if you want to use chopsticks. I had ginger pork, done very nice.

I've heard things have been tough in this neighborhood of Bangor, and that Ichiban's top Chef left to do his own thing. I can say with confidence that the food here is still genuinely excellent. That caterpillar roll is mindblowingly good.

Food was delicious but small portioned for the price. Inspite of ordering online 2 hours before I picked up, I still waited almost 20 minutes. Seemed understaffed and seriously disorganized. I felt bad for the girl waiting on people inside I saw 2 tables leave because they had waited so long for food.

My husband and I went there for our first done in experience in over a year. The food was delicious, but more importantly, the staff was incredible. Our waitress listened to our questions about foods we'd not experienced before, encouraging us to try things were might not otherwise date to. It was a lovely reintroduction to dining in.

Wow. Decided to try this place and it’s so darn good. The rolls are thick. Fresh. And delicious. This will be my go to spot anytime I am in this area! Love it! The freshness of the fish is amazing!

Went to Ichiban today for a late lunch. Ordered the Bento Box : tempura, katsu pork, white rice, miso soup and salad. Also the Japanese spring rolls for an appetizer. The side salad while fresh was covered in the worst ginger dressing I have ever had, it had a weird goopy consistency and looked like vomit. The miso soup was okay. The spring rolls were super greasy and the veggies inside were mushy. The tempura was also greasy and not very hot. The katsu pork cutlet was not as tender as it should have been and the sauce served with it was NOT plum sauce, and I found it inedible. Overall a very disappointing experience and we will not return or recommend to anyone.

The food is phenomenal, the staff is kind and courteous, and the atmosphere is simple and cozy. I find myself coming back time and time again. I absolutely adore this restaurant and I wish them well.

Always really good, and who knew I'd find great sushi in Bangor, Maine. The Alligator roll is a dinner in itself, and although the age dashi tofu didn't have the fish flake on top, it was still great. I was really happy to see it on the menu. Definite plus, and I'll dine here again when I'm in the frozen north.

What started out as a fun stop during my early days in Maine turned into my go to place for sushi. Anytime I have a celebration or excuse to go I do. Their staff are always friendly. Shout out to the volcano roll and Godzilla roll, aka the cutest sushi roll I have ever seen!
